To start, they bring you fresh bread with butter and a whole head of garlic that is soaked in olive oil and baked (I'm guessing). It's tastes amazing when spread over the bread. I ordered the Pollo Speciale, with a side of pasta and it was delicious! Words can't do it justice....so I posted a pic up, so make sure you check it out lol. Amazing pasta, amazing pizza, even better Nutella cheesecake. I've tried a few pasta dishes, including the fettuccine Alfredo, which I know, is basic, but let me tell you, it's decadent and delicious here at spagos and I haven't had better than this. The Gnocchi Michaelangelo is SO YUMMY, with pillowy gnocchi in a blush sauce. The pizza is pretty good too! they have a lot of space, perfect for small or big groups! The Nutella cheesecake is what I'd recommend for dessert, TOO GOOD, seriously trust me, get it! The free apps of bruschetta for dine in is bonus points. Boy oh boy--What a treat!! If you are within driving distance of this place, I suggest you get in the car right this minute and put the pedal to the metal. By far the best Italian food I have had since I was in Italy. As soon as you sit down in this beautiful restaurant they will bring nice warm garlic bread with the absolute most delicious bowl of chopped tomatoes with garlic and olive oil. Oh my god I had 2 bowls of the tomatoes and probably could of had more. For an appetizer we shared the Arancini (Traditional Sicilian rice balls with tomato sauce, mozzarella and parmesan cheese). Tasted just like Italy. We had 4 people in our group and they made sure to bring one for each person. So delicious! My meal was the Fettuccine Con Salsiccia E Pepperoni Rosso (Homemade egg fettuccine noodles tossed with Italian homemade sausage, roasted red peppers and fresh tomato sauce). The BF had the Pollo Speciale (Breaded chicken breast prepared with spinach, fresh mushrooms, our fresh tomato sauce and touch of cream). The in-laws both had the trout special. These pieces of trout were huge. Not your average lake trout. Had to be ocean trout. Came stuffed with scallops and shrimp with a cream sauce and veggies. Impossible for them to eat it all. They could have shared but were happy to take home the leftovers. Dessert was of course a Nutella Cheesecake and a Strawberry Cheesecake with a round of Limoncello shots for the table. Everything was perfect. The staff here is wonderful. The hostess was amazing and made sure to get us a table when I called and told her we were traveling a great distance to get there. Went here with my parents, in-laws, and the hubster. The food is not authentic Italian it's more east coast Canadian/American Italian food. The food is definitely tasty. The service was ok. Our server kinda disappeared on us a couple times but we were able to get what we needed from other staff members. My parents are Vegan, there weren't that many vegetarian/Vegan options however the restaurant was willing to work with us to figure out options for them. Next time I'm in Windsor I'll be back but not for a healthy meal definitely on cheat day. read more

My first trip to Canada and we get Italian food. Go figure. I found this place on Yelp and it looked promising. Walked in and it looked like your typically family owned Italian restaurant. The service was great. The portions were huge, but that's basically all I remember. We ordered the mussels which I thought was very tasty. That was probably the best part of the meal. It came in this great red sauce that I kept to the side in order to dip the bread in it. I order this pasta dish with a pink sauce to it. Usually when I hear pink, I think it is a combination of cream and red sauce. Most of the time it doesn't taste cheesy which I like, but this one was. I can't stand the taste of cheese so my fiance had to eat it for me. Overall, I would say this place is very cute and the atmosphere is nice, but it is a bit overpriced and the food is not spectacular. It's pretty so-so. read more

I absolutely LOVE this place. I have to cross the border to enjoy the fabulous food that they serve but I make an effort to come out here as often as i can. I have introduced so many family and friends to this restaurant and will continue to do so. I have brought friends that were visiting from as far as Australia and they also enjoyed it. I have so many great memories at this restaurant and hope to make many more. The staff is amazing! From photo bombing our pics to sending us home with hugs each and every member of the staff here is amazing and loved. A major bonus to the fabulous foods! I wish I can share a favorite dish here but to be honest, I try something different every time and I have yet to have a bad meal. Spago is 'the spot' to go to in little old Windsor. They used to have limited menu on the main floor back in the days with only desserts and drinks, with Live music on weekends playing Italian and latin music, it was the hit place! Few years later now, it still is a cool place and I try my best to stop by every time i'm in Windsor for a visit. It never lost its touch!! I recommend this place for couples, adults, dates, or to Celebrate a special occasion...whether it's an anniversary or a birthday, you will have a great time at this place. This place is so freakin' delicious, I have been dreaming about the food ever since. A friend and I drove in from Detroit on a Friday evening after hearing about Spago's from a friend; I had no idea Windsor had a little Italy. We enjoyed a glass of wine while waiting for a table; I believe we waited about 30 minutes. The hostess was very sweet and doing a great job at getting people sat as quickly as possible. The server was also very attentive and knowledgeable about the dishes. The food was so so so good, I can't remember the last time I had Italian food this delicious (other than my mom's cooking, of course). I took leftovers home and was able to enjoy my dish twice, it was perfect. I highly recommend checking this place out! read more

The salad, with cucumber and onion had a refreshing salad dressing tossed throughout. The dressing was generous, so may ask for it on the side next time. Then the lasagna --- it was great! Showed up tonight around eight to see the Saturday dinner rush dying. We were initially told it'd be about a 45 minute wait but we had a table for four in less than fifteen minutes because three parties bailed. The staff was very friendly and joked with each other but never stopped moving. We were lucky enough to draw Ritchie. Strong server. We liked him immediately. He started us with a complimentary bruschetta that was more than adequate. We'd studied the menu ahead of time so we ordered right away. A minestrone, Two ravioli, a Pizza Quattro Stagioni, and a Rigatoni Classico. The minestrone was a perfect comfort accent to a drizzly November evening and the house salads of arugula and Italian vinaigrette were fine as well. The ravioli was well-received, the pizza had a thin crust and was perfectly serviceable, though I'd choose different toppings next time, and the rigatoni was full of subtle and nuanced notes. Absolutely delicious. Very old school Italian looking place, lots of stone work. The small of Nana's kitchen hits you as soon as you walk through the door, brings you right back to being a kid. Nice open kitchen so you can be immersed into your childhood. They start you off with complimentary bruschetta, holy cow, amazing. I mean really, delicious. I could have just eaten that for dinner. We also started with the calamari, which was also very good, It was strips rather than rings, but very meaty and not too much breading. They were very good. I had the Rigatoni Quattro Formaggi, so rich but absolutely amazing. I would order this dish over and over again (although not great as left overs). My boyfriend had the Manicotti Di Casa, which was also incredible. All of the entrees come with a salad, which is nice because i always like to have one before my meal. The service was very attentive. Our waiter even brought us some tiramisu on the house, which was also delicious and I could have taken an entire sheet of it home! We came here for a family dinner celebrating a 19th birthday. We each got a drink. I got the Sangria-it was great! The bread-bruschetta- was delicious. We ordered a second and could have kept on ordering more bruschetta. Anyway, the salads arrived and it had the perfect amount of house dressing. My daughter got the Italian wedding soup and loved it! Our entrees were all fabulous. I had the gnocchi and they were some of the best gnocchi I have ever had. My daughter got the pizza and I tried it-it was good. The food and service here were both great. We were lucky to arrive before the Saturday dinner rush and got seated right away. About 30 min later, the line waiting by the door started to build up. The complimentary bruschetta and salad at the beginning were very tasty. In fact, the bruschetta was so good we asked for another! (Unfortunately they were backed up a bit, so we didn't receive the bruschetta until the end of our meal. We ended up boxing it up to take home!) We got the grilled calamari for an appetizer. It was decent with a sweet balsamic sauce. Next time I would probably try ordering the fried version instead, though. For entree, I got the veal and shrimp with mushrooms. There were at most 3 small pieces of shrimp in the dish, which didn't justify the high cost. Otherwise the pasta sprinkled with parmesan was perfect, and the sauce was flavorful. Our waiter despite being busy was attentive to us, and our water glasses were always promptly replenished. I would rate this 5 stars if the entrees were slight more generous for their cost. read more

Had dinner here last night and a 5 star rating is truly deserved. Food was good but service was outstanding. My husband and I ordered a seafood linguini to share after filling up on calamari and bruschetta. Without asking, our waiter had it split into two separate plates for us - both beautifully presented as if they were single servings. Portion for the main was VERY generous. They also gave us two salads instead of sharing one even though we only ordered one main. It's rare to see someone go out of their way like this. Very impressed! read more

Well starred on Yelp got us in the door. It's busy so you need to be patient. Knowing they're busy they pass hors d'oeuvres to help pass the time, genius! Got to sample the Arancini balls and the margherita pizza. They did an excellent job of flipping tables and turning their covers over. Once sat the initial service was cheery and quick. They dropped complimentary bruschetta which was excellent. All of our dishes were excellent. I have been wanting to cross the bridge and come here for awhile and thought, what better time than to go and celebrate my Anniversary with the wifey? Getting there was simple and I was surprised to find parking on the street right near the restaurant. The ambiance is charming and romantic, but also has a somewhat casual feel which was nice. I was looking to have an upscale meal, but neither of us wanted to get too dressed up. Jeans and a dress shirt were totally appropriate. There was roughly a 30 minute wait (it's still minutes in Canada right?) which wasn't bad for a Saturday evening. Plus they were coming around with small appetizer samples for those waiting. When we got sat they served us bread with tomatoes on top (basically bruschetta) which was fine, but I kept seeing photos on here about this whole roasted bulb of garlic that they bring with the bread and I was bummed we didn't get that. While it looks like they have a full bar, they were limited on options. I wanted an Old Fashioned which is made with whiskey and the only two he knew that they had were Canadian Club (obviously) and whiskey made by Drake the rapper which again didn't surprise me, because, Canada and all. I ended up passing and my wife and I just split a 1/2 litre of Cabernet. For dinner I was torn between ordering the Rigatoni Quattro Formaggi and the Gnocchi with Pesto Cream Sauce and asked the waiter for a suggestion which ultimately led me to go with the Gnocchi. Well when our food came out, instead of the Gnocchi he brought the Rigatoni dish. He apologized and felt really bad about the mixup and told me that he'd have the Gnocchi made and wrapped up so I could take it home with me. I told him that wasn't necessary, but he insisted. Both dishes were great, with the Rigatoni being my favorite of the two, most likely because I ate it right then and there after it came straight from the kitchen. Other than not having the roasted garlic and the food mixup, my main issue is with how much oil and butter they use. You do not notice it while you are eating there and everything is fresh, but if you take home leftovers and reheat them, you can see just how much oil is actually used. I would say that there was at least 3/4 of a cup from the Gnocchi they packaged up for me that I had the following day for lunch. It was pretty mind blowing to see my little potato dumplings swimming in that much EVOO. Will we go back? Sure, why not? It was only about a 30 minute drive coming from the Metro Detroit area. You have to travel at least that long to get any decent Italian here anyways. read more

Spago's is one of the best places in Windsor to eat. I started coming here when I lived in Detroit in the 1990s, and was so glad to know it was still here and going strong when I moved back to Windsor three years ago. I don't know of any dish they serve that is not excellent, and it always starts off with complimentary bruschetta and salad. You can never go wrong by going to Spago's. The grilled squid appetizer is superb, and the eggplant is as well. Recently we were a large group to celebrate someone's birthday. Our server, Rich, was courteous, professional, and just plain excellent. The food was well-prepared and delicious. We never felt hurried, and were treated as if we were the only people in the restaurant, even though all the tables were full and there were quite a few waiting to be seated. The Spaghetti Carbonara is also really good, taste great but isn't super heavy like it is a lot of places. I love the area as well, I always like to stop by Italia bakery for something to take home or stop at a nearby store for dessert and/or espresso. My friends and I were just in town for the NCAA Final Four tournament in Detroit and our hotel was in Windsor. I searched on Yelp and saw that this had a couple good reviews. We decided to walk over to this place and were greeted by the friendly staff at Spago. We sat down and decided to order family style between the 3 of us. We started off with the Calamari which was excellent and well seasoned. We then split the Lasagna, Classic Pizza and Carbonara dishes. All 3 of the dishes hit the mark. The Carbonara was my favorite. The staff were extremely friendly when we asked for extra sauces and were always there for refills of our drinks. We ended off the marathon lunch with the oreo and reeses pieces pies. My friends and I had a great lunch and an awesome time! We were very pleasantly surprised and even raved about the meal a couple days later. Must try if you are ever in Windsor! read more

One of my friends had a birthday and we decided to go to Spago Ristorante Italiano in Windsor, Canada. It was a Thursday evening and when we walked in there were quite a few people, but not all tables were filled. I loved where we sat we could watch the chefs create masterpieces out of pasta. We were looking at all the dishes coming out of the kitchen and everything looked wonderful! My and one of my friends decided to split a spaghetti and meatballs while the other two had the special of the day. The dinners came with a dinner salad and even though me and my friends were all splitting they gave all of us a dinner salad. The salad was wonderful, just enough dressing on it, not overpowering whatsoever. Then our dinners came out. OMG, at our table we were not talking but savoring each and every biteful of wonderful, delectable food from our plates. Huge helpings considering we were splitting! The best spaghetti and meatballs this woman has ever had! One of my friends who is a customer there decided to add a Calamari Alla Griglia. I was so full that I couldn't eat it, but did have a taste. Loved it!!!! The place was very clean, the waiter - Chris - was absolutely top shelf! I definitely recommend this place and it seems like it could be very romantic - I was with a bunch of girlfriends though!!!! This place is excellent. It is right below the Spago Ristorante - this is the more casual version of the upstairs restaurant. In addition to a good selection of Italian classics, they make thin crust pizza in a stone oven! It is so good. Just like the upstairs version, they have excellent service. A minor detail that made a big impression: the waiters/bus boys NEVER let your water glass get empty. We have been there numerous times, and my husband (I know - it's a little silly) tried to block the glass to see if he could drink all of his water before it was refilled. There are several Italian eateries around Ontario Canada. However with a lot of them Mark as five stars, it seems that they would be good, however upon reading most of the reviews they seemed that the ratings did not match the comments. Spago was not one of those, they are 100% Top Notch. I ate there in person and their wait time was accurate. And I ordered food from them the next day for my date, which was just as excellent quality as the night that I had an dined prior. Whether you're looking for a first-time date, going back out for days, or just a good time with friends. Any of those would really be fantastic, you can't go wrong. We decided to go here before a concert at the casino after seeing some favorable reviews on Yelp and some other websites. We have been to a few other Italian places on Erie St. before, but never Spago. We had to wait around 15 minutes for a table on a Saturday night. The menu had so many options! We decided on a calamari di mara for an appetizer (which was calamari, scallops and shrimp with a light vinegarette) a pizza with artichokes, ham, black olives and mushrooms and Penne Spago. We were really happy with our choices, the pizza was good, but if we would have just ordered that, we would probably not make the trip over the border for just that again. Now the Penne Spago on the other hand..to die for! The sauce they used to pair the noodles with the ham and mushrooms in the dish was nothing like I had ever had before. I will definitely be dealing with Customs to have that again! The appetizer was also delicious. Very fresh and light.
