Not too many places do a deep dish pizza well and Spanky's hits the nail on the head. Things can get a little tricky with the service in particular the seating hostesses. I'd seen Spanky's when driving down the highway, but it was after a fundraiser went horribly wrong with a volunteer group I helped out with that we actually went over there to try it. The guys who were still students at UH were shocked that I'd never been there because of how much of an institution it is to them. Like a lot of dine in places, they have a variety of sizes, pizza depths, and toppings that you can order. I'm a pretty simple guy who prefers just pepperoni, but I went with what they wanted, which included a variation of a Supreme pizza and a meat lovers. Both were fairly large, New York style, and filled us up pretty quickly. Service is always a bit weird at a pizza parlor, since the Parmesan and red pepper are already on the table and they're basically just refilling drinks, but the service was as good as I've had at any other pizza restaurant. Was it the best pizza I've ever had? Obviously not. Was it a solid pizza at a great price point from a place that definitely deserves its status as a local institution? Definitely. read more

It made it a terrible pizza, we aired on our waitress for ten minutes, never came back, we had to get a manager, of course he offered to replace it, great guy, but we do not send food back, but we were just going to order another one, it was our mistake, but like I mentioned she never came back. Once she came back we did let her know the problem, and did let her know it was our mistake, but she got an attitude about it, so we asked her to walk away, so in the end everyone ate, except for myself.
