So, I signed up with this company after being promised that this would save me money on my gas bill. It has not, and is costing me 3 times more than I've ever paid!!! And, because I didn't even get my first bill from them until AFTER my "30 days to cancel" period, I'm stuck paying all of this extra money for no reason! NEVER did this man mention to me that I was going to be charged by both spark, my utility provider, AND still pay the monthly $4.95. I'm sorry, but if he said that I was going to be charged a delivery fee, I would have NEVER signed up! The hastiness of the whole procedure should have caught my attention... But I was trying to save money! How can you offer a service to people to "save them money" and end up costing them more???? DO NOT TALK TO ANY PERSON COMING TO YOUR DOOR AS A SPARK ENERGY REP!!!!! THEY ALSO CLAIM THEY ARE A PART OF PG&E!!! THEY ARE NOT!!!! Was signed up without my knowledge by a door to door rep who came by about 6wks ago and I told him I was not interested! PERIOD! Today, I received a "Welcome to the Spark Energy Family" packet so I called the number on the packet but when I selected "Residential", it rattled off PG&E phone numbers along with several other CA energy companies(San Diego etc). I called PG&E and was told my account was in pending status. I explained that I had NOT signed up for Spark Energy and the number on their paperwork only directed me back to PG&E. She was kind enough to give me another number for this Scam of a company(and don't bother having some flunkie post from your company saying this is not a scam and is reputable, read the rest and see how reputable your contractors are) which I called and after interminable hold, I was greeted by Christina who informed me that my account had been rejected as a sign up and I informed her that I NEVER SIGNED UP WITH THEM OR APPLIED FOR AN ACCOUNT at which point she she stated that their door to door reps were independent contractors and the rep had submitted my agreement on the 9th and it was rejected. It was rejected because I never agreed to it! I told her I wanted to file a complaint and she said she did not know who submitted it but she would make a note. I told her I was going to file a complaint with the BBB at which point she offered to let me speak to a Supervisor. Adam was the supervisor and assured me that they would look into it and that I do not have an active account because it was rejected. They had some phone number attached to my account that is not mine so the door to door salesman obviously falsified that along with whatever else he fraudulently submitted. I explained once again that their company is employing people who are fraudulently submitting for services against the homeowner's knowledge and that I would be filing a complaint with the BBB and he assured me that they could track whatever contractor submitted the contract and would deal with him and that I did not need to file myself but I assured him that I would still file as they have already shown that their company is not to be trusted. Even if you outsource your door to door scam artists, they reflect on your company and I have filed my report today. read more

Spark energy is a legitimate scam. I know that sounds like an oxymoron but stay with me please, this might be kind of long. When the surveyor came to my apartment a few months back there were a few things I should have noticed about the interaction. Let me start by saying, when they came to my complex it was pretty late about 7 or 730 not something i immediately thought about as strange but I had had a beer or 2, I was at home after all. Anyway, the guy said he could lower the gas portion of my energy bill. The reason, he told me, that they could do this was that the were the new company providing the gas to my energy provider. In my mind I thought "why should I have anything to do with that?" But I was interested in lowering any of my bills any way I could so I didn't dwell on that thought for very long. He had asked to see my sdge bill I said I didn't have any recent ones he said it didn't matter any bill would be OK, another kind of odd thing I didn't think about till later. He also asked to use my phone as someone from their company would be calling it after he got a look at my bill.as I was waiting outside with the guy I decided to Google spark energy but as the results page loaded the phone rang and the guy said that it was them so I handed it to him. While the guy was on the phone he didn't say much and I noticed that he nor his partner looked particularly professional . they were wearing street clothes and the only thing with a company name on it were there badges hanging from the lanyards on there necks. The other guy hadn't even tried to hide his full sleeves of tattoos; something most customer service companies I've worked and applied for would deem as unprofessional. Anyway, while we were outside I heard a bunch of hollering from multiple voices in a running SUV and I asked if that was their ride he said yeah they were fellow surveyors and that this was the last location on their route. I asked why there was no company logo or name on a company car. Instead of just saying it was a personal vehicle which I think would have been more believable he said that again they are a real company and couldn't afford yet to put logos on their company cars. I then began asking him about all the things on my mind up to that point and he replied that I can talk to his supervisor. But by that point they had already finished the phone call and were already ready to go so I was just done with it. I finished looking them up and and read multiple articles and reviews claiming the same kind of unprofessional behavior. All they do is send you a bill for NOTHING whatsoever and you have to either continue to pay the bill or cancel it early;because if you wait too long you face a high cancelation fee. Please see through the lies that this is a real company. Just read the customer complaint summary on the BBB review, its all there. In the end, I hope you don't fall prey to real con artists, do your research, and don't do what I did and hesitate too long. Just say no. 2 girls came to my door and told my mother that they were checking her meter since it had been updated and to make sure she was getting a good price. First of all, there was no badge or anything to identify who they were. One girl had a sweatshirt on, and neither looked professional at all. But they had that clipboard and my mother immediately went to get her bills. Thank God I was at home. I told my mother not to show them anything, I went to the door and told these girls that I am employed with IGS Energy and asked what energy company they were from. One girl told me Spark Energy. I told them that my mother is already enrolled with IGS Energy and that she gets discounted rate because I am an employee. This girl tried to tell me my mom is already enrolled with Spark Energy, and I advised her that I know for a fact that she is not enrolled with Spark Energy because I check her bills EVERY MONTH. They left my door upset because I knew what they were trying to do. I went out to my car about 1/2 hour later and my car had been keyed. I have filed a police report and I am calling Spark because I want to know who was my canvassing my area. Somebody is going to pay for repairs, but not me! I live in San Diego CA today a company called spark energy came to my home stating that SDGE was non-existent pretty soon and that I needed to give them my bill from sdge so that I can transfer over to them. they told me that their service would be WAY cheaper than SDGE and of course I fell for it im always looking for ways to save money so I signed up but then I called them to find out how much my monthly bill would be. they told me it'd be around 40 bucks a month. my bill now for sdge is 18 and under. I canceled the service with them and called sdge. sdge told me they were scam artists and that I would be receiving a bill from them if I kept the service plus from sdge. sdge also told me to call the Better Business Bureau and tell them what was going on. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and they told me that I needed to contact Houston Texas from which the company is from and also tocheck with the city to see if they were breaking any other laws and also to report them with the Better Business Bureau online. they're going to people that are very low income. SDGE is aware of what's going on and I have it on my facebook for pll to repost. I just found out I saved someone from thia terrible company and their lies. SO BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. Spark Energy reps have been into my building twice now that I'm aware of. The first time they came by, my roommate talked to them and found them suspicious and pushy. She told them at that point that she couldn't help them because she didn't handle the energy bills. I actually do deal with our energy bills, so I actually was able to answer questions for him when the representative returned today. I wasn't thrilled with my experience. The man who came to my door was pushy, insisted on seeing my bills, and failed to explain what he was talking about in regards to actual billing. He relied instead on general economic models of supply and demand, for some reason brought Reagan and Clinton into it, and attempted to misdirect and mislead me at several points in our conversation. He insinuated that most people in the building had already switched last year, and that I was somehow behind the times and in financial trouble because I wasn't using Spark's fixed rates. Furthermore, it was only clear about five minutes into our talk that he wasn't from NSTAR-- he flashed his badge quickly at the beginning of our conversation (it stayed flipped over for our entire conversation, blank side up), and in his personal intro said that he was affiliated with a branch of my energy company. He later recanted and said that he was working for "the supplier"-- this semi-ambiguous clarification only came after I had been blatantly staring at the badge on his jacket that said "not affiliated with the energy company" for about a minute straight. I refused to give him information on the spot, requesting time to look over the agreement in order to understand it better. He was unwilling to give me this time and space, and he tried to pressure me to do it with the sort of "do it now or pay too much for the next 12 months" line of rhetoric. When it was clear that I wasn't signing without reading he gave up. After reading the reviews I'm glad I didn't give him any personal information, and I encourage others in the Boston area to be careful, and to advocate for the time and space to make a careful decision if approached. When I asked to cancel because I realized you guys were charging me at much higher rate than PG&E does on its worst month, he proceeded to cancel me without explaining that I would have a termination fee that is going to cost me more than if I had just stuck with Sparks for the next 4 months. I have been using Spark Energy since 6/2015. On 9/2015, I referred a friend. Then I called Spark Energy for my $25 credit of referring a friend, they told me to wait after 3 months, to make sure that my friend would pay her bills for 3 months for me to get the credit. I said ok, but why you don't say anything about that waiting after 3 months anywhere on the website or in the letter you send me about my ID of referring a friend. After 3 months, I called them, they said they could not locate the referral, and asked me to asked my friend for their account number. Then I called them again this morning for the account number, a guy picked up the call and asked if at the time of the referral, if I sent my friend a link, and he said everything should have been done through the link and the referral would automatically applied. I told him I was the one that opened that account for her through online and put in my referral ID, and about the specific step of the link, I can't remember, and it would be too much for me and my friend to open her email to make sure that she received that link through her email. Then he said that was the only way. I asked my friend for me to check her email and it was an email of the link, and the email was read, it meant that I really used the link to open the account for her. Then I called Spark Energy again to tell the fact, and the lady ask me to have my friend with me to verify the account. Are you insane? How if my friend is living far away from me? Representatives of Spark Energy just provided different instructions and explanations every time I called them and avoided paying me my referral. I would switch to another company whenever my contract ends and will never refer any friend to Spark Energy again. 3/8/2016 I sent Luis Cantu (Business Customer Service) an email after he left a message after my review. I wish I could give negative stars. When we first moved to Katy eight years ago and got Spark, it was EXCELLENT. Since they have gotten bigger and changed to a "new system", Spark Energy has the very worst customer service (aside from a very helpful young man named Edward) that I have ever seen. After multiple mistakes on THEIR part, and failing to address my account needs and changes as I requested, we ended up having to pay almost $1000 within 24 hours back in February just to keep our lights on (thanks to Spark's mistakes), only to have the SAME problem pop up today to the tune of almost $500! Luckily, Edward figured out the problem and helped me fix it, something that not even supervisors had been able to do in the past. However, after almost a year of trying to continue what USED TO BE excellent service, we will be paying the early termination fee and moving to another company after almost eight years of service with Spark. NO ONE has made an effort to right the mistakes made by Spark, nor will any supervisors speak with me about how Spark can make things right. I am seriously disappointed and I will make sure to tell everyone I know about my experience so they don't have to go through this mess. read more

This is an absolute SCAM!!! I signed up when one of their sales reps came to my door. I was offered rates 1/2 the price of what I was currently paying with SDGE, so I signed up. Shortly after, my SDGE bill began coming in 2 installments, one for electricity and one for gas, just as promised. Also, my billed gas amount was about 50% less as promised. I was happy! Then I started receiving "please call us immediately" phone calls from Spark Energy. I returned the call wondering what they could possibly want. I got on the line with a woman that barely spoke English. After many attempts, I finally understood that she was trying to tell me I owed them $39 for the 3 months of service. I told her that was INSANE...as I've paid my gas bill every month the day that I received it...and that $39 is closer to what I pay for gas in a YEAR, not the 3 months they are claiming I owe them for. After going around and around for several minutes of her not understanding what I'm saying and me not understanding what she's saying, I asked to speak to someone else. She put me on "hold" - literally it sounded like she just put the receiver in her lap. I could still hear her muffled conversations with other people the entire time. After 5 mins of "hold", I hung up and called back. I got someone different this time, who thankfully spoke English. Her name was Victoria, and she at least was friendly. I explained my situation to her. She looked up my account and said, in fact I did owe them $39 and that they had never received a payment from me. I told her I had been billed separately through SDGE (since they still deliver the gas). She explained that those fees were just for the usage of the pipes, meters, etc. but that the actual gas usage charges are billed separately through Spark - which is what the $39 is for. I told her that was CRAZY, as I had never paid more than $4 in a month for gas prior to signing up with Spark (my hot water heater is the only gas appliance in my apartment). What they were charging me was 3x more than what my normal gas & electric company was charging. I explained that I had never received any kind of bill or invoice from them, otherwise I would have called and cancelled immediately. She apologized, but explained that if I did not pay the $39, my account was about to be sent to collections. I went ahead and paid the $39 to avoid any kind of BS collection action ruining my good credit - but I told her to immediately cancel this SCAM of a service. She confirmed that she did - and I wrote down all of her contact information and confirmation number of in case I ever receive anymore phone calls from this AWFUL company. read more

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SPARK ENERGY!! I give them -5 stars! My gas bill was more this month for using less gas than it was last month with just Pacific Gas & Electric. I called Sparks to cancel and found out I have to going through another billing cycle before it can be cancelled, so that means another month of paying higher prices than before signing up with them. I was assured my bill would be less. The representative on the phone told me I would see the savings in the winter time...hello?!!! It's only June, like I want to pay higher rates all summer long. I was told when I signed up that I would still get my CARE discount. That was not entirely true. I only get the discount on the delivery fee PG&E charges me to deliver Spark's gas, but not on the gas that Sparks provides. The people going door to door selling Spark Energy are con artists. Do not even give them a chance to start talking to you. If it sounds too good to be true, then it is too good to be true. Just Say NO to Spark Energy! read more

I have sent emails to their office of the president and their customer service dept. but I assume that since they train their hyenas in the field to behave this way it won't do any good. I have seen their response to other reviews and they say they want to further contact you to resolve the matter what a crock. When I signed up for Spark I was aware that I needed to be cautious as the introductory rate would change but I did not expect it to suddenly double! My initial bills were excellent and really cut down my costs, BUT when that changed it changed dramatically. They are not clear in communicating when you intro rates will change and I also discovered that my local provider was half the cost in kilowatt hours which helped me wise up and cancel my service with Spark. It's truly not worth it so I highly recommend you steer clear if they come to your door! read more

One year ago some poor high school girl managed to talk me into signing up with this horrible crooked company. I never heard a peep from them, I forgot I'd switched... months went by... Suddenly I got a threatening letter about failure to pay and that I would be getting the (as every one of these 139 one star reviews notes) $100 penalty. Anyhow, PG&E (my primary energy provider) told me that I had an outstanding balance, (oh it's just a mess how they figure this)... So it's a win win for all the energy providers... but lose lose lose (and very rough) for the consumer. I got slapped with the $100 penalty for terminating service with these people... but that wasn't the end of it... I JUST got a call from them, they say I still owe them money (the trick in this is the primary gas provider pays the third party gas provider ONLY after all current charges are paid in full (if there is any remaining balance... the third party is the last to get paid) I am sure I will get the obligatory offer to write an email to Spark (when they see this) (I want that guy's job "we are sorry you had this experience (not really)") I looked into filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau... it's tricky... a more clever person may have succeeded (I think class action is in order!) the problem I had was finding the terms of their contract and then tracking down the pay out of the primary gas provider... Good luck! Here is the basis of a class action suit: consumers are mislead, (go young hot shot lawyers) Spark expects payment much sooner than my local gas provider. That's the bottom line and it should be easy to prove. It's a legal gray area for me. I didn't ask, but they surely knew: most people pay their energy bills along a long established pattern with the utility company... Spark hops in... bam $100 termination penalty! ($100 would have bought a nice xmas gift) I remember thinking, $100 and I am free from a business relationship with these people... seemed like a bargain... I called spark to switch back over to Nicor who's thermal are .36 compared to Sparks .42 (they are suppose to be cheaper). I was told that Nicor would have to stop billing for them which will take 2 billing cycles. Nicor on the other hand told me that Sparks would have to send them a cancellation letter so they can stop payment. When I called Spark back and told her what Nicor said I was told again that it's a long process that would take 2 billing cycles..SPARKS WHY ARE YOU GUYS LYING !!! In fact why don't you tell people what you are really doing..HOLDING THEM HOSTAGE SO YOU CAN GET 2 MORE HIGH ASS PAYMENTS FROM THEM!!! Just when I thought extortion was a crime.
