Came during the holidays. Not particularly busy on weekday night. There was only 1 waitress on floor and a few guys behind the counter making sushi. The waitress was very nice to greet and serve everyone. The menu has a la carte and some set combo. For me I don't really found the menu particularly too attractive with the food you get and the price you pay for. I felt like they emphasized that they have Wagyu sliders on the set menu, which they said it's a good value for what you get. To me, I found this Wagyu sliders aren't that much better; it's no different than regular burger to what I tasted. The sashimi given are salmon, tuna, salmon belly, and a white fish. Overall, I don't know if I will go back again. There isn't anything that make me want to visit again or wanted to try. read more

I haven't been here for a while now as we grew tired of the set menu after having it so many times, but we decided to stop by again and it definitely did not disappoint! There's not much change to the interior, still clean and spacious with the cutest little chopstick holders and the service is still great. They are very polite and efficient despite being busy. We decided to try something new this time and ordered a sushi, sashimi and roll set with some extra stuff on the side. Honestly, I enjoyed this way more than the set menu. The sashimi very thick and fresh with a good variety. It's rare when I even say the herring with the yellow roe is tasty. The sushi's were nice as they had some different ones that aren't usually in sets, like inari sushi, and the rolls were actually specialty rolls (I might be biased, I'm a sucker for good rolls and inari sushi). We also ordered some takoyaki which was good and shrimp tempura was big and crispy. Soft shell crab was okay but I think I prefer it more inside the rolls than on its own. Overall a very enjoyable meal and would definitely recommend the sushi, sashimi and roll set. A little pricey but worth! read more

I walked into the restuarant for lunch on a Sunday, and was seated right away because they weren't very busy at that time. While I can't say this is my favourite sushi spot, it's good for the price point. You get great value here. They have a large selection of lunch sets ranging from $10 to $35, with the majority being under $20, and good portions. Their tea tasted a little watered down, and the salad dressing was a little too peppery, but everything else was good overall. It's also good place for those who prefer sushi with thicker cuts. The staff were all very friendly, and efficient. The restaurant itself has Japnese decor to give it a more authentic feel, and they have a couple of sectioned off rooms for more initmate group gatherings. Why does this place have such a low rating? The sashimi cuts were thick and juicy, and the black diamond roll was our favourite dish. It had a good chunk of foie gras and it was just delectable! Everything was very fresh and no fishy taste! Service was exemplary. The lady always offered to refill our tea at opportune times. We were seated by a window with the blinds down so I had to provide my own lighting, but they liked my light wand lol. This is a small and cozy Japanese restaurant run by cantonese speakers, probably Hong Kong? They provided attentive service to everyone there. It was lunch on a Saturday and it wasn't very full, which was surprising because there weren't any events anyway. I fully recommend coming here. I also loved their chopstick rests. I have passed this restaurant so many times. Curiosity got the best of me and I talked my hubby into giving it a try. Plus it was nearing 3 pm and it was the closest option to make it to for lunch. Past restaurants at this location included Tsukiji Village & Main Sushi both, so I was hopeful for another new spot. Date of visit - 2 weeks ago We easily found parking right out front, which, if you know Main Street Markham is rare. There was no indication as to where the entrance was so we walked between Mains Mansion and Fujisan, and located the door. We walked in, nobody to greet us, waited about 5 min and a server walked by greeting us in Chinese? Half the tables were full, we thought okay this is a good sign. The blinds were all drawn, making it dark inside. I had to use my phones flashlight to read the menu. I tried to open the blinds, but in doing so only got a view of 4 people smoking that were from the restaurant next door, so I rolled the blinds back down. The decor has no actual theme, a lot of bottles of Sake everywhere. This wasn't giving off a cozy feeling of a place to hang with some sushi and a bottle of sake. Let's get to the food. We decided to go for the Bento Boxes. This way we could try the sushi/sashimi, teriyaki and tempura without ordering a lot of food. The first thing that surprised me was price vs what's included. Much less than Miki Sushi, Osaka Sushi & Araya Sushi and their bento boxes. which are a few of our regular and fav spots for sushi, sashimi and any grilled teriyaki, tempura etc. Agedashi Tofu served with tempura sauce - this was just "ok". the tempura sauce was so bland. The texture of the tofu was odd, I don't know any other way to describe it - and the pieces were greasy. Torched salmon roll - this was pretty decent. I was surprised by the sauces drizzled on top, one of which was spicy because nowhere on the menu does it mention this. Chicken Teriyaki Bento Box $20.99 - looked pretty good, but that's about all I will say about this meal. Nothing in this box was good. The chicken was cold and cooked with the rubbery skin left on. The teriyaki glaze had zero flavour to it. Also included, a large shrimp tempura. By large I mean panko breading that looked like it had been redipped several times to add on length to it, because the shrimp itself was as small as my pinky finger. There was salmon sashimi which was tough not melt in your mouth tender. I took one bite and was afraid to eat more. Also included was a piece of ice cold tofu with the same flavourless teriyaki sauce. Edamame was loose and just dumped next to the sashimi. 2 pieces of California roll which were not prepared well at all and fell apart when I picked one up. Honestly, the highlight of this box was the steamed rice which took away the taste of everything. Angus Beef Bento Box $21.99 - this was hubby's food - I don't know what they served him, but it did not look like beef. It was a log of something. Hubby took one bite and refused to eat more. He ate the tempura and California rolls and 1 bite of the sashimi and was done. Didn't care for the miso soup and the salad was ok, but it had an over kill of ginger. Our server brought out our food and never returned to ask if we needed anything or to refill our waters. My hubby had to get up and find someone to bring our bill. i have been eating at Japanese restaurants since the age of 6. This has to be one of the worst I have been to and eaten at and the service was no better. One and done. read more

This resto has a nice Asian inspired decor upon entry and the sushi chefs greet you. We ordered a dinner set for two. The quantity is more than we could eat in one sitting. Miso and salad + dessert is also served with this meal along with tea. The quality of the fish is great and the portions are excellent. The entrees were lacking in the protein content but flavour was excellent. This restaurant falls short with staffing issues, we had to wait a really long time between dishes and our server left before we were served the entrees. There was only one other waitress for rest of a very busy restaurant along with tea servers and dish service. Someone, assumed it was the owner, was assisting with bills and following up on food orders but for a weekend evening this was not sufficient. read more

I gave them 4 stars because their staff has high EQ which is essential in the food and beverage industry. Food overall is okay. Though the on-house appetizer is not appealing, 10-piece sushi set is worth for money. The batter of the Tempura mixed is not as fluffy as it should be. Yakitori chicken skin is interesting. Like the way they make it but other skewers are so so. I guess they microwave ox tongue coz I can see the steam when they put it in my table. They have an interesting promotion but all in cash. The thing that blew us away here was the service. Right when we entered the doors on a Saturday evening the waitress was brimming with joy and made us feel so welcome. She highlighted all the top favourites and gave us plenty of recommendations. Now in terms of the food, the flying ramen was an interesting combination of fried, dried and soup ramen. It was definitely a new experience and surprisingly we enjoyed the dried noodles mixed with sesame and peanut sauce the best as it brought out all its natural flavour. We also got a Don which I would say is average, fairly good assortment of fresh fish (not the best I've had in Toronto) but definitely a filling and tasty dish. read more

My friend, run! It was a fun experience if you just want to try something different, but honestly, it's not tasty. The roll was extremely hot -- like, so hot I couldn't taste anything else. I've never had a roll like that before. The ramen looks great for photos but not so much for eating. It uses 蝦子麵 (shrimp egg noodles), and the pork feels more like 乳豬 (roast suckling pig). It's definitely a Hong Kong-Japanese fusion, but it feels like they're just playing around with the food rather than making it genuinely good. read more

Came here for lunch today, this place took over the Main St Sushi spot it looks like. Place is very clean, modern style QR code ordering. Sushi can be a bit pricy but taste wise this place was pretty good. Ordered 2 items off the lunch menu. 1) 4 PC torched and presses + 6 sushi pcs ($17). This was very tasty, especially the flavour of the torchesld sushi. Would have been happy just eating that 2) 4 pc spider roll and 4pc red dragon ($15). This one felt a little expensive but good fry on the crab and I guess crab is more expensive. If ordering this for lunch I would still be pretty hungry. Each lunch special came with salad and miso soup. 3rd thing we ordered for my daughter was a chicken using ($13). Value wise this was probably the best bang for your buck. Noodles have a good chew and there is quite a bit of very flavourful chicken. The veggies are fresh which is nice big chunks of broccoli and zucchini. Daughter ate well. The restaurant has been open for 3 months. I just happened to see it on a quick walk one day and decided to give it a try. I started with take out of an uni - sake - ikura don. I gave them a call and the service was super courteous and friendly. The food was ready upon pick up. The side lot was easily accessible and I was in and out within minutes. A quick peek inside gave a nice modern Japanese restaurant feel. Clean, new, comfy. Maybe we'll eat in next time. I think their pricing is quite reasonable. The pictured don is $29.99 + tax. I think they could change the presentation a bit to make it feel like it's more (ie instead of squishing the Uni on the side on the right put it in the center). Either way it was very fresh. This place was packed when we went on a Friday night. We had to wait a bit for a table, about 10-15 minutes. The kitchen was busy but that was expected based on how busy they were. They had an online ordering system at the table where you scan a QR code, but they also had traditional servers coming around as well. Since they were so busy we used the online system. We had placed our order and then we waited about 30 mins for the food. We ordered a variety of things and wanted some more so we figured that we could use the online system again, so we placed a second order. The second order never came. There was confusion in the kitchen apparently and we never ended up getting the extra stuff we ordered. We weren't charged for the second order but just be aware to make sure you order everything you want the first time around. The food was good, everything tasted fresh with no fishy taste. The ramen came in a very "Instagramable" style with "floating chopsticks" in the bowl, it also came in a diy sort of way with all the toppings on the side. We also ordered some BBQ skewers, just know that each order is one skewer (mentioned on the menu). Basically everyone gets miso soup and salad and each person gets their choice of ice cream at the end of the meal with standard offerings of mango, red bean, green tea and ginger flavours. The menu has a lot of options so you can go back and try different things. The service was good, but they were very scattered. If you're planning a visit, get a reservation so you don't have to wait as long. read more

Have you noticed Fijisan is always packed for dinner? I did, so my first visit was a lunch. Long story short, Fijisan blew my mind with great portion, great price and relatively good food. We only ordered Bento boxes with cooked food, however. We were impressed enough to visit again for dinner (with table reservation) to try out their sushi, sashimi and ramen. - The sushi and sashimi were delicious, fresh, sliced thick. I won't say they were Hibiki's level, but restaurant level food quality for sure, defined as noticeably above and beyond takeout quality. Then again it was way cheaper than Hibiki, so I called it good value. Plating was beautiful as evidenced by pictures. - The Sky Flying Ramen had an interesting presentation. The ramen itself had very good texture. I liked it smooth with a bit of el dante. Don't let the smaller portion fool you; this ramen was quite filling. My dining mate and I shared one, as a carb to go with the sashimi, and we were stuffed. The broth was unique; I enjoyed it myself. BTW, the "sky flying" stiff noodle is edible, just in case you want to eat it. I dipped it in the broth to soften it first, though. - Miso soup was surprisingly quite good. It was creamy, intense in quality and undiluted. Salad was standard flair. - Service was excellent. Salad and soup arrived momentarily after placing orders. Food arrived within reasonable wait time. A gentleman whom I assumed was the floor manager was friendly. He explained to us how to eat the ramen. - Decor was pleasant. Both the store and the lady washroom were very clean the day I patronized. I kinda really like clean washroom in a restaurant. - oh prices - excellent deal as we bought the VIP card when they first opened. I cannot find a better overall food quality-price-portion value anywhere in Markham. I don't know if the VIP cards are still available. If they are, and if you like the food and live close enough to come repeatedly, I strongly recommend the VIP card. read more

Went here for lunch and got the sliced beef bento box! It was $17 and the portion size was very good. It came with soup, salad, 6 pieces of tempura, white rice, 3 pieces sushi and sashimi and 2 chicken karaage. The food was pretty good as well. I enjoyed the karaage in particular. This place replaced Main St Sushi back then when I would order take-out. Seeing as this place was so highly rated we came here to check it out. The service is attentive and staff is pretty friendly. Here was what we ordered: Yakionigiri Salmon- $6 & Unagi- $12 (2pcs)- Its basically a slight grill mark rice ball with the protein you pick. Decent bite size portion. Soft-Shell Crab Don- $22- Has corn & edamame with the steam rice and your soft shell crab cut into 4 pieces. Not much action really but the soft shell crab is definitely more meaty than most places. Spicy Tuna Roll-$13- Not really spicy at all as the sauce is the main carry for spice, but the tuna was alright... For 6pcs on that price point, not sure why its $4 more than the salmon... Spicy Salmon Roll- $9 (6pcs)- Price point its a bit more reasonable than the Tuna. Spider Roll- $17 (8pcs)- Pretty decent and the soft shell was a bit more meatier than other sushi joints. Husband discovered this place of a gem in the stretched of Main Street. In the past two or so weeks, I've already ordered take out from them twice. I got the sashimi platter, it was good with thick slices of sashimi but I disliked how you can't choose which sashimi for the platter. The assorted temperas were yummy but size was small. The service wasn't the best, they kept recommending things by saying to buy this and that which was a bit pressuring. The ambiance was chill. The sushi was tasty but expensive for small quantities. We spent over $140 but left still hungry and not satisfied after, to save your money and time (the sushi took well over 25 minutes to come out) I recommend going somewhere else for sushi. read more

Yesterday Friday night as part of celebration of some good news, we wanted to give this sushi restaurant. We went for Chef's choice - sashimi, sushi, roll 34 pcs at $68.99. Cannot be more disappointed (sorry, we do have high standard on chef's choice). We ordered appetizer - tempera mix, and small plate of torched sushi, and then the chef's choice combo. Guess what the chef's choice part 1 - sushi and sashimi on a normal white plate came first ( this type of presentation was really unprofessional we expect chef's choice combo on a boat or wooden plate) Japanese food is art - not just for taste but for eyes. This presentation, I can only say not acceptable. The sashimi is too thick cut, some people like thin cut, some like thick cut, I cannot say it is good or bad, but just not what we wanted as thick cut lowers the flavour, you chew on a piece of big chunk meat like a polar bear, doesn't care about the taste of it. The freshness is not good or bad, as the presentation so bad, you won't enjoy the whole meal. Finally cane the torched sushi, we liked the salmon avocado torched sushi $22.99, came in 8 pieces, not cheap. I noticed all special rolls are overpriced, not sure why some people saying the price is good, some items are more pricy than others. Then came our appetizer after the two main courses, tempera had too thick coating, feel it is from new trainee chef, maybe because it is from part of the chef's choice. Then came our chef's choice part 2 - rolls, two types, one is filled with mainly fake crab, and the other was filled with soft crab, I hope it is not fake, as we cannot feel the crab taste at all. Another thing to mention, we had to wave our hands, stood up several times in order to get our waiter's attention. Also one waiter came in and talked to us in Cantonese, assuming all Chinese looking people speak Cantonese. Just the whole experience was not great, food was mediocre, presentation was poor. The deco and location was great with good atmosphere when we stepped outside, there was live music, people were singing and dancing at the patio restaurant next door.
