What an awesome find! We are on a late night drive headed up to Glacier and were hoping to find a place to eat. We didn't know how many food options we would have, so we had planned on stopping about 30 minutes before this place. We drove up to the other place and didn't feel comfortable with the sanitation. So we found Sparky's and figured we would give it a shot. When we pulled up, I was super happy! It's a beautiful little establishment, wonderfully maintained! The little town is adorable, and has beautiful historical buildings as well! We enjoyed driving around. We are simple foodies, so my husband and I both got the bacon cheeseburger and were thrilled! Wait time to get seated is ridiculous. Open tables everywhere but not staffed to accommodate is the excuse so every other table is always empty. Terrible and tasteless food . Had a cheese burger here first time last year, while staying at some friends property. Was there again this last weekend Memorial 2021 and decided to try the catfish dinner. It was breaded with cornmeal , goosy , and once again no flavor or seasoning. Waitress assured me it was good and deep fried . Not the case. Cool place atmosphere wise , but the food is not ! Been eating here for awhile and they have decent food!but, there's been a few instances where I've had some terrible experiences. First of all, I've seen mice running around near the check in area. Secondly, the bartender named "Ashley" whether that's how you spell her name or not verbally attacked me and a few other guests as we stood near the bar to talk to a few buddies completely out of the blew. completely uncalled for and gave no apology. this was a wonderful stop after an 11 hour drive from Utah! good food, atmosphere, cleanliness and service! i got the "pulled pork dinner" with cornbread, mac and cheese, and sweet potato fries. the cornbread was soft and moist, the mac and cheese was wonderfully seasoned, and the sweet potato fries were pretty good. a little crispy but mostly soft on the inside, a tad on the mushy side. i had to split it, the proportions were HUGE! the pulled pork was worth it, though. juicy and tender, perfect with the honey barbecue sauce. the atmosphere inside really gives off the "car garage" aesthetic like the name. giant and wooded inside with lots of vintage signs and posters. i enjoyed it, although the tvs surrounding every corners and blank spots on the walls were distracting. the service was great, a very friendly waitress who came to check up on us frequently. our drinks weren't refilled, which sucked because the sweet tea that i got was amazing! she also tweaked the order a tiny bit; two of my party members planned to split a (giant) plate of mac and cheese but both ended up getting their own. overall, great restaurant with great food and good service. i'd recommend it for any wandering travels such as myself! read more

It's in a great location in town right off of the interstate exit plus across the street from the college. Not worth the wait. We had a "25 minute wait" which was over 45 minutes before we sat and the wait for the food equally painfully long for underwhelming food. One of our group had Beef brisket which was the best of the bunch. The fried chicken was on the dry side, over salted and over peppered. The mash potatoes were decent, the salad was okay and the chicken fried steak was similar in quality as fried chicken. It was ok but for a group of 4 with tip was over $75 with no alcohol. read more

We were in town for business and stopped in for some BBQ. Being from Kansas City, we're a bit particular about our BBQ and have rather high expectations. We both ordered a combination plate that included two meats and sides. Our meals arrived quickly, but were both tepid. Since we were starving from travel we decided to hold on to our plates and dive in. Both of us ordered brisket and it was the first thing we commented on - "it's grey." "Right. Where the hell is the smoke ring?" "uhhh... I don't see one." "she said it was smoked for twelve hours, but maybe she meant it sat in a crock pot." Still hopeful for a decent BBQ experience we squirted all four of the house made BBQ sauces on our plates. Honey BBQ, Hot-N-Sassy, Carolina Mustard, and Original BBQ. The texture of the brisket made it difficult to fork and dip. It fell apart from being overcooked. While this degree of tenderness may be desired by some, it is not what we're accustomed to in Kansas City. Instead of dunking our bites in the sauce to sample, we resorted to tasting the sauces with fingers and spoons. Unfortunately, there were no winners. I do not recall a recent meal where I reached for the salt and pepper so often. Bland, bland, bland. The star of my meal was the fried catfish. The crispy breading was flavorful and the catfish underneath was still tender. Regrettably my travel companion did not have a star. Service was attentive and friendly, yet not all that knowledgeable of bar offerings. A simple bar menu would be an improvement here. Restrooms were clean and stocked. Clean restrooms and decent service were not enough to get us to dine a second time at Sparky's. We will not be back. read more

I loved the atmosphere and the decor. We could go back several times and have a lot more items to remind of stories past. The staff was friendly and checked in on us often. I enjoyed the food. I had a burger and sweet potato fries. They were perhaps the best fries I have had anywhere else. My mother didn't like the ribs as well. Typical diner fare with not-so-diner prices. I used to eat here when I was going to UMW about 5 or 6 years ago, and would usually go in for a coffee and piece of pie on a regular basis, sometimes a tasty breakfast on the weekends. I love the nostalgia on the walls and the oldies playing in the background. It's fun if you are into vintage and retro aesthetics. I came out to visit family this past week and thought I'd grab dinner since it was the only place open in town that wasn't extremely questionable. I noticed that the prices were quite a bit steeper than I remembered. Extremely small portions of bland food that were overpriced. I guess you have to pay for "ambiance". Waitresses didn't offer any refills and seemed a bit annoyed that we were there so late, even though they were still open for another hour. It was a bit unprofessional. My family rolled into Dillon for lunch around 2pm on our way from Montana back to Cali. Sparky's is the closest thing off the freeway and after driving through the cute town, we stopped here. The building and decor seem fairly new and clean, despite it's vintage look. The menu has BBQ brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and catfish, which are smoked on premises nightly, according to the waitress. It also has some sandwiches and other entrees. As I said before, it was about 2pm and they only had 1 portion left for the pulled pork entree, and when it arrived it was a little undersized. I'm not sure if that was the norm. The chili was excellent, and was thick and chock full of ground beef. You have the choice of fries, slaw, beans, or sweet potato fries w/ your meals and I opted for the SP fries. They are very lightly battered and come out nice and crispy and are served with a ranch-like dipping sauce. The draft beer selection includes some microbrews like Salmon Fly Honey Rye and Sam Adams Seasonal, and they also have several bottled selections. The waitress gave me tastes of a couple beers when trying to decide what to drink. The decor has a lot of retro auto-related signs from the 40's, 50's, and 60's. There are lampshades made from metal oil jugs, saloon-style swinging doors made of old gas pump shells, and a huge wall of old signs. The booths are big and there is a patio for outdoor seating. My one main gripe was the napkins - faded pink shop rags. They are rough and don't seem that clean. While they are thematic, I'd prefer paper napkins. Overall, the food was good and the portions are right-sized. They may feel a bit small to some but if you order up the optional soup with the meal (only $1.50 more I think), you'll be set. The service was friendly and the decor is fun. I would stop here again if I was passing through. read more

This restaurant in the middle of nowhere became my favorite stop in Montana. There are not too many choices (besides chain restaurants) when driving throughout Montana, most places are miles and miles away. Luckily two years ago we stopped in Dillon and thanks to YELP I found this place!! It's a little restaurant with curious decoration. It looks like a car repair shop in the outside. The interior also looks like a repair shop! In fact, the napkins are like those red clothes mechanics used back in the 80's. Sparky's food it's home style and BBQ. I ordered the half rack of ribs and I got two sides plus an order of cornbread. For my sides I got sweet potato fries and beans. I haven't found better sweet potatoes than the ones in here. The ribs are also really good. They are seasoned but they don't have a BBQ sauce, you get to put it. The corn bread it's delicious!! The second time I ordered the same, I only changed the beans for the chili and it was a great choice since I love chili. This place is one of those places where everything is good. They opened another location in Butte. If you ever find in this road this is a place where you MUST STOP. I keep coming back year after year during my annual drive to Anaconda, I have never been dissapointed about the food or the service :-) read more

Pricey for what I got: chix strips. Seems they bread the chicken on site. 16 for 3 mini strips and a togo bowl of cabbage (slaw). This was my "plan C" as I tried to order two other items that they were "out of". This is a place that must be visited as the atmosphere seems to carry the whole experience. That said, my order was to go and I am none too impressed. AND, no fork for the slaw. It was ok but afterwords I heavily hit my Triscuits and cold cuts to offset the small portion size. Again, it's really nice inside and I'd bet that contributes to a better experience than what I had. Too bad. read more

Stopped in with our two kids passing through on our way home to California and were pleasantly surprised. The decor is incredibly cool and the restaurant was very clean. They have a table in the bed of a car you can sit in so of course we did! Not too horribly busy at 12:30p on a Monday, but enough other guests that we were impressed with how attentive our waitress was throughout the meal, and friendly as well. My son and husband ordered a Jambalaya special, which was a very large portion and tasty. Was a little spicy for my 11 year old, who happens to love heat, but not enough to stop him from eating until he was full, which was about halfway. The delicious cornbread and sweet butter they serve with it helped cool his tongue. Not exactly authentic with cornbread but still very good! My daughter and I both had grilled chicken Caesar salads. Also large portions, chicken was warm and freshly cooked and the dressing was tasty. I LOVED that they didn't over dress the salad. We likely won't ever find ourselves back in Dillon, or at least not soon, but we would definitely stop at Sparky's Garage again if we did. read more

I stopped in for lunch and ordered the chicken tenders with a side of cornbread. What I got were three pretty small, overcooked sticks and a piece of cornbread that all fit on a small metal pan. We have been stopping here every time we drive up to Canada and usually look forward to great food and great service. Today, however was very disappointing. The service was terrible! I don't know if the waitress was new or just untrained but she definitely needed help. She confused ice tea and Diet Pepsi, didn't bring cream for coffee and forgot she was refilling a coffee cup while talking and my mother in laws cup overflowed. Also the food (chicken fried steak ) was only so so. The bacon in the turkey sandwich was greasy. However the tomato soup was excellent. Camped in the area for several days ad made Sparky's our twice daily stop. Excellent breakfast and dinners. Had the chicken salad, GTO (chicken fried steak), and hamburger steak. For breakfast the Denver omelette, pancakes, and biscuits and gravy. Being southerns - we know chicken fried steak & biscuits and gravy. These guys get it right. I would highly recommend the huckleberry dressing if you get a salad. Service was excellent - they added cheese to my omelette (ordered without) and quickly cooked a new one. Starting with the positive first.... My husband liked his brisket and the side of mac and cheese. He said the brisket was a little dry, but he's not too picky and likes his meat well done, so it wasn't an issue for him. He told me he would eat at Sparky's again. Our server was super sweet and very attentive. She happily gave suggestions when asked and did all the right things a server should do! We both had the cornbread and it was just okay. I had the French onion soup and was so excited to see it on the menu! Unfortunately, it was under the broiler too long. When it was delivered to our table I knew instantly that the cheese was burnt. Because the cheese was basically crusty and totally fried, the oil separated from it. I tried to spoon it out of the bowl, but there was so much of it, I just finally gave up. The cheese had a burnt taste and I never tried the broth because I couldn't get to it through all the oil on top. Sad part is, the soup looked like it had the potential to be really good. I probably should've said something to our server, but decided not to and just had the cornbread for my dinner. read more
