This restaurant is great. Although it looks like some roadside shop it is clean, the food is fresh and freshly prepared. I've eaten here, breakfast one day and lunch two days later. The menu is extensive. You could go for their burger, but why? They have a cold antipasto salad with slices of ham, salami, black & green olives, iceberg lettuce etc. their vinegarette dressing is very good. The small antipasto is plenty large enough for a lunch meal. Or you could try their appetizer sampler pick 3 with fried zucchini and muzzerella sticks and chicken fingers. Their 6" cold turkey hero was fresh and tasty. Try that with sweet potato fries and cinnamon butter. All their dips were very good. Service was attentive and friendly. Stopped here on the way to Daytona for bike week. Was really looking forward to visiting this place again. Really wanted breakfast but they stop serving breakfast at 11am and we arrived around 11:20. Lunch was absolutely incredible. Despite managing to get the last table the service was excellent as well. I ended up ordering their skillet burger. Odd plate, served in a small cast iron skillet. At the bottom appeared to be a slice of bread with a burger over it. Mushroom gravy over the burger and mash on top of that followed with more mushroom gravy. The mash was fresh made, not powdered. The taste was nothing short of amazing. One of the people with me also ordered the skillet burger, the third ordered a calzone. He said it was the best Calzone he ever had. It looked great. Nicely browned and tons of gooey cheese inside. I will be back. The nearly 100 mile ride is well worth the trip. read more

Well, I have to say I am impressed. Was expecting to enjoy it as just a local spot. Ended up surprised at every turn after over ordering. Got a sampler combo with onion straws, corn fritters, and cheese bread expecting to like one enough to finish and the others enough to try - ate it ALL. Then came the Mediterranean pizza and Italian combo of fettuccine Alfredo, chicken parm, and lasagna - pizza was excellent with some holy cow crust and combo was amazong in the same way as pizza - not at all like restaurant food, but like someone made it at home and was nice enough to share with you. This place is a step up from your usual American diner out in the country. My friends and I have eaten here twice after visiting some nearby springs, and we've always been happy and satisfied. Honestly not quite sure what all the rave reviews are about here, my and my friend's experience were ok but in no way amazing. The interior is very down-home and comfy, appropriate for the forest atmosphere with a lot of artwork and bric-a-brac relating to Florida and the National Forest. The menu runs long and includes everything from the expected hamburgers and sandwiches to a selection of Italian favorites. My "swamp thing" shrimp sandwich and my friend's hamburger were both fine but not outstanding; perhaps the Italian dishes are more the way to go here and apparently the breakfasts are legendary. For a fairly decent and quick meal, it's fine, but I'd rather go on into Astor to Blackwater Inn for their delicious seafood most times. read more

We got a very Warm welcome as we entered. The kids were given crayons & a coloring page. The coffee was fresh and the service was prompt. My husband & I both ordered omelettes. Mine was stuffed with a generous amount of fresh spinach & quality feta. My husband's western omelette was very tasty too. A lot of fresh ingredients. Our daughters both ordered pancakes. After hearing how good they were I tried some and WOW!!! Delicious! Try the home fries. They are great with fresh onions & peppers. Very flavorful. Too much food for us to eat it all. I ordered swamp fries extra Crispy and extra swamp sauce. I got home and they were cold legit cold cold. Cheese not melted at all and there was hole in all of it like they were eating off of it. Like they Made an extra on accident an hour earlier took those and bagged them up. I called about it and the waitress had an attitude and said there's no way that happened. pictures to show what this looks like because there's no way someone wasn't eating off these before I got them. there was only 4 crab bites and 5 corn fritters. the Owner was nice and understanding. it wouldn't have been that big of deal because I understand things happen but the way the waitress acted was the issue. We were camping in the Ocala National Forest and went into Astor for a couple things. The bright yellow restaurant and cool sign got our attention. We were not hopeful for vegetarian choices but went in anyway. The inside is very clean and has a country vide. The menu is extensive but only 3 vegetarian selections, 2 pizzas and one vegetarian sub, plus some vegetables side options. We ordered the Mediterranean pizza and fries. The pizza was loaded up and the flavor was great. It was soft and very yeasty, I loved it. The service was very friendly. The other diners seemed to be enjoying their food too. My boyfriends grandparents live across the bridge and gave us three options that we're close for dinner and thanks to yelp, I quickly decided. The grandparents even said "Oh Sparky's is the best in town!" I already had high standards coming in. OK.. talk about adorable. Like a cute little rustic little diner. Reminded me of restaurants up in Wisconsin along the lake. Anyway, there's only about 10 tables in the whole place and we took up a large amount of the tables in the center with 6 of us. Service was spot on, I always ask for extra lemons in my water and I really judge service on how many they give me(I got about 3 wedges.. ok not ideal but still nice!). I saw the picture of the swamp burger and knew it had to be mine. How do you describe this wonderful burger? I don't know where to start. A perfectly good burger but covered with perfect fries topped with cheese, bacon, sauces.. oh my. Has anyone mentioned how it's just under $8?! yeah you get a crazy amount of fries and a burger as one for under $10. Im in. Must go back! We stopped in here on our way out from camping at Alexander Springs on a July 4, 2015. We were lucky to have arrived as a table had become available. Evidently, this place is usually busy. There are only about 10 tables in the whole place. It's got a cozy kitschy feel. Kathy took good care of us. We ordered the bear cakes and the red neck Benedicts. Both were delicious. The bear cakes are huge pancakes (the size of your plate) files with nuts and dried fruit. Seriously consider your portion before ordering to much. I couldn't finish my order of 2! Next time, I may order one and some bacon next time. The red neck Benedicts were biscuits served open faced and stacked with sausage, fried eggs and sausage gravy. The person cooking makes the best fried egg... It was perfectly runny and hot. We shared our plates and still couldn't finish all of the food! We were heading back home and asked for Togo cups for our coffee. She brought out two Togo cups filled with fresh coffee. That was thoughtful. There is free WiFi. The password is their phone number. Great food! Great service! We'll be back! We just laughed about how we won't have to pack any food next camping trip! read more
