    Whole belly clam

Fried whole belly clams, onion rings, fritters and coleslaw are our standard at Essex Seafood. Just remember, cash only! We arrived around 12:30 on a Saturday to a fairly empty parking lot - good for us as that meant no wait. More diners arrived after us but there was still ample seating for everyone. Service is exceedingly fast. We had our piping hot food in a matter of minutes from ordering. In fact, we were leaving the restaurant 30 minutes after arriving with very full bellies. Portions are huge, prices on par with coastal New England seafood restaurants. Product tastes great. Well worth the hour drive from the northern section of The Villages. Nothing fancy inside and out for decorations, but we come for the food!

I have to tell you that I come from Essex Massachusetts and have eaten at Essex Seafood 1 for many years. Howie is an old friend ! The quality of the seafood at Essex Seafood two is, every bit as good as the original, and possibly, better ! If you like Northern seafood and shellfish, this is the place to eat. Regards, Jack Hill

This is my go to place for fried whole belly clams. The food is fresh, hot and a lot. All is very clean and they're very helpful. This is a place that I go to even though I am over an hour away. Don't over think it, take a drive for great food. This is a place worth the trip. Enjoy!!

Oysters were fabulous! It was a Sunday afternoon and this little place was packed with! I had the "boat". Fried oysters, one side, my choice was a baked potato which I took to go as the oysters were what I wanted to use my appetite for! I was not disappointed! Very casual, tables are close, service is quick and friendly. Need to head that way again for the clams!'

A must stop if you are passing by ! We were in a trip to Jacksonville and were passing through not much to eat so we figured we would give this a try and omg amazing. Already planning the next trip back Must try hush puppies and the white mac and cheese FRESH MAINE LOBSTER !! Whole belly clams The prices were so reasonable I was shocked I haven't had this good of seafood since being back in Connecticut. The vibe literally feels like your up north . Service was amazing the girls were so nice ! Five stars for sure I wish we had something like this close to the house !! Make sure to check out the specials !!

This place is cash only so plan ahead!! They are closed on Tuesday's. Beer and wine are by the bottle only. The food...OH MY GOD is to die for!! Hubby and I shared a clam strip plate with fries and onion rings with a side of hushpuppies. Ya'll.... This was the best, most tender, and juiciest clams I have had in my life. The plate is piled high with fire and onion rings and all was delicious! The breading for the clams is the same for the onion rings and was soooooo good! Service is friendly and frequently checking in to see if everything was good. Just great southern hospitality! The ambience was at lunch time and obviously a local favorite! It was packed! We got one of the last two tables available.

Combo plate with whole belly clams & fish sandwich with fries! Service was fast and friendly, the place could use a bit of updating...but, fresh fish from New England is what makes this a great spot to visit. They keep it on the cool side, so you may want to bring a sweater if you get cold easy!

Fried whole belly clams, yum yum!!

The restaurant has local charm. Not very very expensive but it is nicely decorated and very friendly. We got crispy calamari, mahi fish sandwiches, shrimp po boy sandwiches and coke and unsweetened tea. The food came up fairly quickly. The calamari is very good, esp with the sauces and lemon juices! My fish sandwiches were perfect and very yummy with the tartar sauce. It also came with fries, hush puppies, slaw. Shrimp po boy sandwiches is also amazing. Overall this was a very nice dinner with quality food and services!

My husband and I started with the buffalo shrimp, which is a go-to order for us at seafood spots. The buffalo flavor was good, but the sauce was very oily, and several shrimp still had bits of shell attached beyond the tails, so I ended up picking shell out of my mouth while eating. For my entrée, I ordered the snow crab and shrimp platter and asked for it to be cooked without butter but keep the old bay. The plate arrived with no discernible seasoning at all, and the seafood, potatoes, and corn tasted like they'd been boiled in plain water. When I asked about it, the server explained that they don't steam crab or shrimp in Old Bay, despite agreeing to that when I ordered, and that the platters rely on butter for flavor, which was disappointing for a $40-$50 dish. I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 because my mother did enjoy her lobster platter. That said, her lobster was absolutely swimming in butter and Old Bay--not lightly drizzled as the menu implies--and it felt like butter was the main source of flavor rather than an enhancement. The server even mentioned how much butter the restaurant goes through in a day, which reinforced that this is their primary approach to seasoning. I enjoy seasoning and lots of flavor, and I prefer seafood that's cooked so the spices and the delicious taste of the shellfish stand out, not preparations that rely on heavy butter, so this restaurant ultimately wasn't a good fit for my preferences.

Must be a family run and owned business. - Place was clean and parking was full. - Claim chowder soup had good flavor and full of claims. Totally worth it. - Connecticut Lobster roll lacked seasoning. Though the lobster was moist and fresh (had some shell in the roll) the punch of flavor was missing. - Calamari did not have the standard crunch one might expect, but the combination of citrus and savory blended well together. Unfortunately either a fish bone or calamari cartilage stuck into my wife inside cheek. Not a pleasant experience. Manager did remove the Calamari from our bill. Pleasant surprise. - Caesar salad was bland. Adding some fresh lemon helped it taste better. - Overall 5.2 out of 10. (Based on experience, food taste/flavor and price point

At dinner time the restaurant had a great moody vibe. Hospitality was top notch. We had a reservation and were sat right away at a table near the kitchen. He was the kindest guy and constantly made sure we had everything we needed. He made our night with his fun energy. The food was phenomenal. The restaurant provides elevated boiled peanuts on the table to snack. The flavor was great. I ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes that comes with 2 decent size crab cakes packed with crab meat. As sides, I ordered the caesar brussels and potatoes. The sides were great and the potatoes were a combination of different potatoes which I liked. My mom had the chicken and dumplings and she had rave reviews to give. This is a great spot for a date night, a place to make a dinner feel more elevated, or to celebrate something. That is not a problem and to be expected. Luckily we had cash. What's disturbing is how I witnessed them treat customers who were already seated and were not properly notified that the POS system went down. They notified the customers AFTER they were served and were ready for the check. These customers had every intention to pay (via cashless transaction) and were blindsided by the fact that only cash was accepted. Instead of working with the patrons and finding a solution, they called the police. These patrons never raised their voice, never said they weren't going to pay, and to my knowledge remained reasonable until a solution could be identified. Imagine my surprise to see these patrons being met with POLICE escorting them out as if they committed a crime. This business showed lack of patience, concern, and EMPATHY. Our society is quickly becoming cashless, so it's not uncommon for people to carry little/no cash. The fact that this business saw it acceptable to call the police for something so minuscule is unfortunate. I will not return.
