    Greek Salad with Chicken
    Danielle B.

This was damn good! It has to be the most tender grilled chicken I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly! I really enjoyed the lemony flavour of the sauce (which I'm assuming is their signature sauce), but I feel that it could have used some sweetness because it was a bit too tart for me. It was also very salty. I'd recommend eating it with some tzatziki to balance out the flavours. But the fact it didn't have to ask for extra sauce on the chicken since it already came drowned in it is what really impressed me! They have a very straightforward menu -- chicken, fries, salad and pita. Though I'll admit their fries and pita look very tasty, so I'll give them a shot when I visit this restaurant again! Overall, I'd highly recommend this place if you love delicious chicken with a lemony twist.

Got the souvlaki trio. The wrap was delicious and very juicy. The sauce was so flavorful and the wrap was soft and warm. The chicken was pretty tender as well. The fries however were very dry and flavorless so it was a bit disappointing. It came with a soft drink and cost me around 14$. It's quite pricey considering that the fries weren't good and the drink was just a canned drink. Next time, I'll just get the wrap alone.

This is small restaurant made more for takeout then dinning in. They do have tables in the restaurant but it's always packed. It is right by Atwater metro/mall. I love coming here for some halal Greek styled food! We were a large group and we ordered the classic and spicy chicken. We were all able to finish our food completely. They do have sides we had fries. They serve canned drinks and water in a pitcher. They don't come serve you food, you pick up your plate from the counter and find a place to sit. We all loved the chicken. It is very oily, so it can get messy. They serve sandwiches as well and a separate take out menu.

A no-nonsense business that serves great food. Owner(?) was fun to chat with. It's located right outside of the Atwater mall, so its a nice alternative to the shopping center's rather boring food court. Great place if you like marinated grilled chicken and delicious gyros. Fries are nothing special - they're more fillers than anything else. Prices are moderate, and portion sizes are ok.

Chicken pita, fries, and Ceasar salad

This was my first time here. My parents had previously raved about this place and then about a month ago my dad had mentioned that the last time they went, it had gone downhill. I decided to try it for myself. I ordered a chicken pita with fries and an extra Ceasar salad on the side. Right away, there was an issue with the owner's credit card terminal. He insisted that I tap my card, but refused to turn the terminal towards me so I could see the amount. He said that he doesn't make mistakes and that I should trust him. So far, good times! About 5 minutes later, the cook placed my food on the counter. Unfortunately, despite being famished, this meal was nearly inedible; Ceasar salad: drenched in a mass produced store bought dressing that tastes like what you would get at a Super C. If you are going to ruin a salad like this, just take the thing off the menu. It's pure laziness to serve this when you could easily make a batch of homemade dressing once a week. Chicken Pita and fries: The tzatziki sauce was quite good which saves this review from getting one star. The chicken was barely warm. It seems like they had precooked it earlier in the day. There's no other explanation for it not being piping hot. The pita was thin and coated in so much salted seasoning that it completely overpowered the sandwich. The same goes for the fries that were overly salted to the point of hurting my tongue. They were also not very warm and slightly soggy. What a letdown!

The chicken was so moist, it just falls off. Just that one sentence took me back to my first bite. Instadrool Lol I mean, look at the photo I posted, isn't it just fucken beautiful? Greek salad with feta cheese was also a hit. And the fries? Let's just say all 3 goes in perfect harmony. Although by the time I finished my plate, my stomach was swimming in olive oil, a little too much for my liking. This is great to have once in a while. Definitely coming back to try their wrap, maybe easier on the oil?

I really (really really) like this place :D Atmosphere: no frills, no thrills, but definitely no chills - place is clean, tidy and spacious. The booths are a little small (barely fitting one person per bench) - but you're here for the food (see below) not the accommodations I promise you! Very much help yourself type of style - don't forget to grab a pitcher of water from the fridge before you sit down! Service: 5 starts and then some! John the owner is down to earth guy and extremely friendly - doesn't seem to take himself too seriously, casually throwing in "brother" 2-3 times in a sentence a al Hulk Hogan :D Always curious and patient - I've never had a bad encounter yet. Top marks to him as the face of Sparta. Food: Not sure what it is about grilled chicken - but this is another place that gets top marks in my book and deservedly so. You have to try the souvlaki here - the bread that's used is to die for. Covered in rosemary herbs and piping hot - it's a generous meal in and of itself. Spicy or Regular - I go for spicy but both are great! One can order the half-chicken (for in house consumption) or the whole-chicken (for take out or delivery). The meat falls off the bone! Grilled and partly baked to lock in the flavour - this is chicken done the Greek way and it's done so very well. Affordable and simple - it's a meal you won't regret and will come back for again and again! THIS IS SPARTA! :D

Absolutely love this place, can't believe I havent already reviewed it! Montreal is truly lucky to have a halal greek place like this one! Warm cosy interior with genuine staff, the owner is a lovely humble and friendly guy. I had the spicy chicken souvlaki which was absolutely perfect and my husband had the half chicken, also very well seasoned. Love the tzatziki, the pita bread, salad ... Everything! This place is simple but huge hearty portions, you are sure to feel sleepy after a meal at Sparta's!! Highly recommend this place if you want to eat well and feel at home!!

Deliciously well seasoned spicy half chicken at Sparta!

This was by far the best rotisserie chicken I've ever had. I ordered the spicy half chicken trio, it was amazingly well seasoned and delicious, even the fries were amazing, so much flavour! Peter and the staff were super friendly, I highly recommend this restaurant.

After some time with the menu, and pitchers of water having been delivered to the table, the server came to take our orders, food and drinks together. The appetizers were delivered before most of the drinks, with one guest not receiving their appetizer until the mains were being delivered. The server had a bit of a hard time remembering who had what, but with some direction, everything was delivered eventually. The food was nice. We had the Lahori fried fish, nicely spiced, fish cooked really well. My partner and I shared the Combo 2 with white meat chicken kahari, beef kebab, and garlic naan. The chicken was cooked very well. The curry paste was tasty. The kahari was served in a large metal bowl, very nice touch. I really enjoyed the kebab as well. The naan was factory made, not fresh. That was a bit disappointing. My fraise rose was delicious. My partner had a mango lassi and said it was acceptable but a bit too thick. The meal had a good spice level throughout. The portions are generous and very filling. Good value for money, however the menu does not make it clear that most dishes seem to be intended for sharing. At the end of the meal, it took some time for dessert to come out (included with the meal), and it seems only some people were asked if they wanted tea or coffee, our side of the table was not. Towards the end, the server simply stood at the other end of the table and asked, generally, if anyone wants anything else. The service might have been better on a busier day, but at 1pm on a Sunday, it was lacking a bit, and we felt a little bit like an inconvenience, even though we were the only people there. We would go back, just maybe for an evening date.

I'd never had the French Canadian heart-attack-on-a-plate, and was a little nervous as it just looks like it has A LOT going on. I sludged into La Banquise dead sober at 4:11am, as this is a legendary spot that is open 24 hours. I sat down in a bustling no frills atmosphere and remembered my deep appreciation for a 24-hour diner. You see people for who they really are this early in the morning. A couple in front of me was in a heated argument about what "being exclusive" really meant, while two separate groups of 4 to my right were feeling no pain and enjoying a poutine night cap. There I was, sipping on my black coffee mentally prepping myself for the 45 mile (72 km) day I had in front of me. The dichotomy of life. I asked the server what the most popular item was, and he said La Scooby. This monstrosity consisted of fresh cut fries, cheese, gravy, ground beef, bacon, onions, fried pickles, and caesar dressing garlic sauce. I got the small ($12.40 usd), but this thing was a TANK. It was bigger than my head and I have a HUGE head. The large must be a family style portion or somethin. Upon first bite, it was damn good. I completely see the poutine appeal. Is it an ideal meal dead sober at 4:11am? No, absolutely not, but this is an S-tier hangover food. Also, if there is ever a day when I need some extra calories, it's on a 100k step day. All the staff was so welcoming, and surprisingly chipper this early in the morning. SHOUTOUT TO LA BANQUISE! THANK YOU FOR FUELING THE JOURNEY! IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

I took my niece from New York City here because La Banquise is supposed to be the "must try" poutine spot in Montreal. We had a great night overall: soccer game, drinks at Mellon Brasserie (none of us were drunk; my wife was 100% sober). Everything was fun and chill. But La Banquise completely ruined the end of that trip, and I'm not okay with letting this go. We paid for the food and service. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: at the end of the day, we were customers, and we deserved to be treated with respect. We waited for our Uber outside. It was cold, and I'm on crutches, so my injuries hurt badly in the cold. After waiting outside for a long time with the Uber not showing up, we went back inside to wait near the door, in the corner, not blocking anyone. The staff at the door immediately came in and started rudely and aggressively kicking us out. He refused to speak English with me after I clearly said, "I don't speak French, so talk to me in English." He kept talking French and was rude to my wife, my niece, and me. He told the waitress in French that we were "blocking the way," which was 100% false. (My wife speaks French) We were just standing near the entrance, waiting for a few minutes, trying to get out of the cold. When I went to the cashier and explained, "This guy is kicking me out. I just paid for my meal. But it doesn't matter if you pay $1 or $100: you're still a customer, and you shouldn't be kicked out and treated like trash just because you're waiting for your Uber on crutches. I'm on crutches, it's cold, and my Uber isn't here yet," they called a waitress who also started telling us to leave instead of helping. She didn't try to find a solution; she just said, "No, no, leave, leave." This is not just bad service. This is disgusting, disrespectful treatment of a paying customer with a mobility issue. My niece, who had a blast all night, ended the trip saying, "What the f....? You bring me here and they treat us like this?" She now has a bad impression of Montreal because of this place. My niece is from New York City, and she's also posting her own review. That review will be seen by people in New York and by tourists looking for recommendations. If you treat tourists like this, you're not just ruining one night, you're ruining the image of the whole city. Montreal is supposed to be a welcoming city for tourists and people looking to have fun and be treated with respect. La Banquise failed that completely. The food was okay, but the experience was terrible because of how we were treated. This is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of how you handled this.

It was burnt outside cooked in high heat, so when we opened it one layer of Maida was raw inside. The potato inside was black and had a weird taste. We were hungry so we hate the outside part of the Dough, although burnt. Second order was lassi- it smelled something awful. I drank one gulp and didn't touch it again. The third order was lamb charsi Karahi. I could not eat even one piece. It was not cooked at all. I packed the lamb as by now I had lost faith and didn't want to leave the entire untouched dish. I thought these guys may serve my left on table dish to someone else. We took the left over food and put it in a trash. The Nan was not bad except one fourth of the naan was not properly cooked, so we discarded that portion and ate the rest of the naan with the "DAL HALEEM" Service- the kid was from Afghanistan and was decent. He was polite.

The food is the main selling point here though. I've gotten the mixed platter and shawarma platter; both with generous servings of protein all doused in a flavorful sauce. Ordered the poutine recently and was also impressed how much they loaded the protein. It was a little on the saltier side and wished they had more cheese curds, but still pretty enjoyable.
