    Adoptions hours 10-3
    Elle S.

The hours on the signs & the website are confusing! They state the animal center is open until 5:30 but here (on yelp) & on the sign in front of the adoption doors it states 3:00pm. 5 stars for the services they provide since many in my neighborhood found their forever friend here! Hopefully will be fostering soon x

Amazing place! My family and I adopted a dog named Red (now named Apricot) from here a year ago and he's an amazing addition to the family! He spent five months in the shelter and can't imagine how this love bug wasn't adopted sooner. Safe to say that he is happy and has a new foster sister to play with. The staff was really helpful and seemed very concerned for the well beings of the animals. Wanted to say thank you and give a little update on Apricot aka Red. P.S. We're still working on the jumping.

Princess, feeling very comfortable in her new home, being a couch dog.

The staff is amazing here and it really shows how much they care! I cannot thank them enough for the care they have given to our new fur baby, Princess.

Meet Ocean, our new pup! She's such a sweetheart.

Adoption success! Our last dog passed away several months ago, and we decided to checkout SPCALA with no expectations of meeting our match that day. But as soon as Ocean locked eyes with us, there was an instant connection. Talking with the staff and spending time with her, she checked all the right boxes. SPCALA made it a quick and easy process for us, and she was able to come home with us right away! A huge shout out to the staff here for all their heart work taking care of the animals and their efforts of finding the perfect home for the pets. Ocean found her forever home. #adoptnotshop

Me and my boyfriend came to this location to see a dog that I had seen online *Fawn . Front desk was very helpful and showed me other dogs as well but I really had my eyes on Fawn and wanted to meet her . They Informed me Fawn had came From a hoarding case and asked me some questions to see if we were going to be a good fit for her . I really did appreciate them asking me questions because they do seem To care about about the pets in the shelter and want the best for them. Everyone here was so helpful especially trainer Jimmy . He also seemed like he truly care about animals and his job . I wish all animal shelters cared like this like how they do at this location . It's been 3 months having Fawn now Blossom :) and she is doing great. She likes going on walks now and she loves playing with her brother . She is still a little scared of people but everyday she is improving . We love her so much :)

We visited a number of shelters looking for our family dog, and found the animal village through LB's Animal Services building next door. It's very clear that this branch of SPCALA is doing amazing work and has staff that truly care about animal welfare. The facilities are clean, the dogs are healthier than anywhere else we went, and they knew more about each dog than any other trainers. The process of adoption was seamless once we decided on a dog. Before decision, they asked about our goals for life with a dog and pointed us in the direction of a few options that would make sense based on their experiences handling each personality. We immediately fell in love with Arthur and brought him home a couple days later. Note-they don't hold dogs for more than a day after adoption fees are paid. This makes sense, but just something to keep in mind for anyone walking in who isn't as prepped at home as they'd like to be. I want to shout out to the staff and volunteers for helping make our dog experience so wonderful. Arthur-who we now call Artie-is doing so well with crate training, walking on a leash, basic commands like sit, stay, down, shake, etc. and we've only had him home a couple days. It's clear he was well socialized and cared for with love and truly feels like a dream dog for our family. Thank you!

I was calling pet supply stores to look for a specific good quality dog food brand (Nature's Logic) in a specific flavor (sardine). Other stores sold the brand, but not that flavor. They offered to special order it, but I did not want to wait. I continued calling from the Nature's Logic "Where to Buy" page which led me to spcaLA Marketplace. Success! Marketplace sells the sardine flavor. I headed down there. If like me you have never been here, PAY ATTENTION. You will arrive at El Dorado Park where there is a toll booth at the entrance. There is a sign with a menu of "Vehicle Entrance Fees" starting at $6 and up. I u-turned to exit & pulled over safely on the street. I called Marketplace & asked them about parking. They explained that when you go to the toll booth, tell the person that you are shopping at the Marketplace. The toll booth person directs you to drive in & turn left until it dead ends, then turn right & continue until you arrive at Marketplace. The point is the "Vehicle Entrance Fees" is for people going to the park. You do NOT pay the fee if you are going to the Marketplace. There was plenty of parking once I arrived at Marketplace. The Marketplace store itself is small but clean & tidy. It is not vast like a chain store, but what they DO carry is good to high-end quality foods (not Iams / Pedigree / Purina / Hill's Science Diet / Royal Canin crap), the kind you usually see in boutique & other better pet stores, plus misc. pet supplies. The bonus is that the prices are a few dollars cheaper than in boutique stores The nice woman behind the counter explained that they get "Shelter Pricing." This is a solid store if you're in the neighborhood. -1 star for the parking confusion. The parking situation should be explained on their web page. And because their Open Hours are a bit limited... Wed - Fri 9 am - 5:30 pm Sat - Sun 9 am - 4:30 pm Here is their web page. Scroll down to find the links to "Browse our marketplace now!" https://spcala.com/long-beach-marketplace/

    Elle E.

When they stopped making the tiny bites kibble I had been feeding our Yorkie, I mentioned to Rita I was doing some research. I had to drive 20 minutes to the only store that carried it and sometimes they were out of the large bag forcing me to get smalls for our 2 doggies. I told Rita about it and she said she could special order it. I was so happy! Since, she has always had my special 26 lb bag of Nature's LOGIC every 10-12 weeks ready to be picked up. Even through the Pandemic for which we are so grateful! Even better, now she's carrying the new line of Nature's Logic Distinction. This company, I truly trust. It's all USA, you are able to speak to them on the phone, they even call back with advice, ideas and no recalls on their products. Our doggies have never had any tummy issues since Nature's Logic. It's the very best I can feed them. Thank you SpcaLA Marketplace and Rita for all you do to help us with our fur babies! You're awesome!

What an amazing experience! Cheyann and Ariana were both amazing and very helpful. The whole process from start to finish was seamless; especially considering it was our first time ever adopting! We had a few cats we wanted to spend a little time with before adopting, and the staff were more than happy to let us do that 100 percent hassle free! Not only was the staff very friendly; we were really impressed with how clean the facility was. You can tell they care so much about the animals here! We cannot be more happy that we came to spcaLA, and were even more happy to welcome Rue to our family!

I went to the rescue looking for a specific cat, but luckily he had gone on to a rescue and had a lot of people interested in him. 'Show me the black cats' I cried! Apparently black cats are not very popular and I have zero idea why. I always heard they were lucky. Susan took me to a room with so many cuddle bugs looking for new homes, and I met Meowzer. Little black boy, found on the streets of Long Beach. He's had worms and a cold and now has his forever home with me. As I write this he is walking round the bedroom with a toy mouse in his mouth, and has not stopped purring since I brought him home. The staff at the spca were fabulous, taking care of the animals spectacularly and really made sure I was the right person to adopt. I'm so happy they won't let cats go to people who will declaw. Many thanks to all staff, and Karina for helping us out. Love Kate and Snoop

We adopted 10 year old Daisy last week and had such a great experience with the spcaLA. Cheyann was so helpful and the process was quick and easy. The marketplace next door sells all the necessities and I was able to go home with everything we needed for her. We used the complimentary vet visit provided in her adoption packet and the vet said she is in great health and very clean. Plus, she was only $25 to adopt for the month of May!

I need to surrender my senior dog, but I no longer have his documents. Can I bring him here?

Hi Wendy, Did you adopt your dog from spcaLA? If not, your dog must be relinqueshed to Long Beach Animal Care Services.

Will you accept an opened bag of prescription cat food (Urinary SO) and diapers for small pets as donation?

Which brand of canned food do you feed the kittens? I recently adopted a kitten from here and we needed to buy wet food for him.

Thank you so much for adopting! Our recommendation is to feed your kitten high-quality pet food formulated for kittens. You may also want to consult with your veterinarian. Thank you!… Read more

We definitely recommend Andi!…read more We originally reached out to Andi for consultations regarding both of our Maltipoos, Kiki and Coco. During our initial phone consultation, Andi was incredibly honest and genuine. After learning more about our dogs, she felt that Kiki was the one who would benefit most from formal training and suggested that we could apply what we learned with Kiki to Coco as well. We really appreciated that she didn't try to upsell us on training for both dogs when she easily could have. That immediately showed us how much she genuinely cares about helping dogs and their families. At the time, Kiki was about six months old and was extremely reactive to just about everything in the outside world. We were looking for someone whose methods aligned with our values, and we loved Andi's positive reinforcement approach. Kiki completed Andi's six-week program, and the growth we've seen has been incredible. What sets Andi apart is that she isn't focused solely on teaching dogs tricks or obedience commands. She truly cares about each dog's emotional well-being and how they're feeling throughout the process. We learned so much--not just about Kiki, but about ourselves as dog owners. Andi helped us understand how our own behaviors and responses can shape our dogs, which was eye-opening and incredibly valuable. Of course, the work doesn't stop when the training sessions end. It takes consistency and ongoing practice at home, but Andi gave us the tools and confidence to continue building on Kiki's progress. The effort has been absolutely worth it. One of the best parts is that we were able to use many of the same training methods with our older Maltipoo, Coco, and she learned and benefited from them as well. Andi actively encouraged this, which we really appreciated. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate, and ethical trainer who truly puts dogs' well-being first, we wholeheartedly recommend Andi and Diamond Dog Training.

We couldn't be happier with our experience working with Yasmeen at Zenni Dogs!…read more My husband and I are first-time dog owners with a happy, energetic black lab. When we started looking for a trainer, we received two separate referrals for Yasmeen -- and we quickly understood why. At about seven months old, our pup had unfortunately been bitten by another dog, and we wanted help reintroducing him to social settings with both people and other dogs. We also wanted to learn tools and techniques to feel more confident managing him both inside and outside our home. From day one, Yasmeen was patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in helping our dog (and us!) succeed. She took the time to understand his personality and tailored her training approach perfectly -- we started seeing improvement after just the second session. Her positive, effective methods made training fun and engaging for our whole family. She also shared practical tips we could easily use every day, which made a huge difference in reinforcing progress at home. Thanks to Yasmeen, we now feel so much more confident with our dog and better understand his needs and reactions in different situations. We're so grateful we decided to work with her -- highly recommend to anyone looking for a skilled, compassionate, and professional trainer who truly earns the trust and respect of both her clients and their dogs.

I never thought in a million years our dog would be able to walk next to another dog, but it happened. I really enjoyed the hands on training we got from Yasmeen and how she aims to help not only the dog, but the owner as well. The practice and consistency really helped with each training session and I have definitely seen a massive improvement in our dog. I look forward to continue training with Yasmeen and learning each time. Consistency is key!

Not his fault because it's in their genetics, plus in the fear stage but we wanted to do our best and provide the training so we can set him up for life. Alex is really one of a kind. after 5 weeks, our little guy knows boundaries of doors, sit, wait, down, plays fetch, come, stay, place, walk - what more could we ask for? What I like the most too is that you go to his location at least once a week and you train alongside him so you can also learn and do right by your puppy which is just as important. Charlie was reactive (barking and pulling at the leash upon seeing other dogs) mouthy with constant nips to the hands, resource guarding (which really freaked us out) and really struggled with confidence and basic manners. We knew Charlie is a sweet, loving boy but training him was out of our wheelhouse. Upon meeting Alex, we immediately were made to feel supported and hopeful. What stood out the most was how calm, patient, and warm Alex was with our Charlie. He clearly understands canine behavior and approaches training in a way that builds trust and confidence rather than fear. You could see our Charlie begin to relax and learn almost immediately under his guidance. His mouthing stopped immediately, and the unique new schedule Alex provided has brought order and calm to Charlie's day. Not only are his guidelines used to create order, but also to strengthen the bond and relationship we want with our dog. Most importantly Alex is patient while trying to train US. He did an incredible job communicating with us throughout the entire process. Every day he sent videos, updates, and check-ins so we could see our dog's progress and understand what he was working on. Weekly at home training sessions helped us with Charlie's behaviors specific to our home. Alex made us feel included in the process and helped us learn how to continue reinforcing the training at home. The transformation in Charlie been amazing. He's more confident, far less reactive, and his manners have improved tremendously. We're so grateful for the care, dedication, and expertise Alex put into helping our dog succeed. I am sure Alex will be in Charlie's life for a very long time. I would absolutely recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate trainer who truly cares about both the dog his family.
