Went in last night was 1230 And we sat down few people inside the vibe was so bad We were there and this bartender looks at us and say we're closed like wtf it's 1230 he's all we close at 1 okay and he kept saying it over and over like stfu but ever said anything to anyone els sitting at the bar or the booths and he was still serving them drinks we took it up to racist that's how we felt would never come here again. Honestly I like this place just the bartender suuuucks. If he doesn't know how to make a drink he just says he is "out". Aside form that we showed up around 11PM on karaoke night and asked to try and order drinks 3 times being told "hold on" to finally be told they don't have any lemon to make my groups drinks and diego the bartender to say "just order whiskey or something easy" was unprofessional and really rude honestly. This place is lame and dead, we were at the bar minding our business and some guys and girls started a fight with us. Bartender closed us our even though we did nothing. Went here towards the end of my sister-in-laws bachelorette party. The economy sucks and people kind of suck too but Sunday's is a lot of fun doing karaoke ... there used to be a bigger crowd 10 years ago before everybody was a snowflake ... they used to have a Gong when they gong people off the stage that sucked but they can't do that now because everybody's too sensitive. Let's start with the bad... The Bouncers ate in a power HIGH! They try to intimidate you and give you attitude. This past weekend is the reason why we won't be going back due to the lack of professionalism with the bouncers. Let's just say police was called out by us to de-escalate the situation. Music- 10/10 very hip hop and they so play a lot of old school Crowd- if you get intimidated easily this place is not for you, very thug crowd here but overall respectable individuals Bar- oooh I wish I would've got the gentleman's name he was an amazing bartender. Unfortunately unless they make changes and train their bouncers not to be sexist, racist and they make changes we will never go back to this place. What a shame, I was discriminated against for being a woman. And myself and my husband were called horrible things. read more

Had my first experience at Speakeasy's last weekend. From the outside it doesn't look like anything too special but once in the doors it's very alive. There was a great DJ that night that kept throwing fire songs out. The drinks were overpriced but really well made and strong. Bar was packed the entire night, had to wait awhile to get drinks but bartenders were very attentive! Not a whole lot of seating in the joint either so be prepared to stand all night. Parking is very limited as well so I had parked across the street in the US Bank parking lot. We had a bunch of fun once the drinks kicked in and weren't even worried about the flaws. Rating 4 stars due to no parking, limited seating, overpriced drinks, and long waits in line. read more

Also, I spoke to the manager about it and he was rude trying to justify I sign the recipient which I did not. He said it was correct and takes 2 days just to fix it. I have been coming here for about two months now...and every time it's a blast! Philip the bartender is my fav! He knows what I like to drink and makes a mean mai tia. It's fire! He's funny, kind and very social. He knows my boyfriend and a lot of my other friends too. Philip always has a smile on his face and keeps the bar clean! He also makes a good mini pizza! Patrick, the security guard is a straight liability, his own staff wont even speak up to him when he is in the wrong. At about 12:35am im the far side of the bar he not only assaulted me but swindled me out of the drinks i had bought for my group, he literally pushed me against the wall unprovoked with my left hand behind me. Went out to this place because I had to get out of my mom's crib and get some brewskis in me when I was last out there for the xmas holiday. This place is pretty happening when I compare it to most places out in Modesto. Live music, pretty lively crowd, stiff drinks. Only thing that sucks is that there are typical Modesto lifted truck douchebags abounding here which, having grown up out there, am supremely tired of and could always use less of in my life. I have been coming here for a few years and have never had a bad night here. This place is the only consistent place to go out in downtown Modesto. The bartenders take good care of you and the drinks are strong. Depending on what night it is, they will either have a live band or a DJ. I know on Sunday nights they have karaoke. The prohibition-era inspiration of the Speakeasy Lounge ensures this is an interesting place to visit. There's low, red-tinted lighting, tommy guns hanging above the bar, and a bar scene painting that is repeated in sections across the room. The aquarium built into the front, exterior wall seems totally random, but I think it's alluding to the midnight liquor boat runs from Canada to the east coast way back in the 20's. Having a 20s themed night would be an amazing idea for this joint. Sundays are karaoke nights and some amazing singers show up. Not to mention the girls who set up the karaoke are great to listen to! Drinks are $5-$7. The bartender, Justin (or is it Dustin?) is pretty nice when it comes to offering their $3 drinks. There's a female bartender that was working last Sunday who did not care at all for making my drink! I asked for a cherry and she just ignored me! Funny since I was the only one at the bar! I would definitely avoid that one. Also, the security guys are totally weird. They're over eager to take your empty glasses away but can't spare a minute for a joke while checking IDs. Whenever I'm in this place, the crowd is younger and not as ready to throw down as some other places. I would be very surprised to see a fight happen here. My bro wanted to take me out for a "night on the town" in Modesto as I visit him about once or twice a year........live cover band was playing current pop hits, the sound system was off and it was nearly impossible to talk. So, I'm stuck in Modesto for the weekend with nothing to do. Thankfully, the Days Inn has free highspeed wifi and I had the sense to pack my laptop because I was able to turn to lovely lovely Yelp to help alleviate the boredom. Last night we went to the Speakeasy Lounge based on the below reviews. It was definitely not what I expected. We arrived a little before 10p in order to score a seat since it was Friday. A sign posted on the door read (among other restrictions) "No gang colors" and "No bling." Now, boys and girls, I have been to bars all across this great land of ours and have seen a number of signs banning certain types of patrons (my all time fave being one Washington, DC bar that said "We do not accept US Congressional Intern IDs as proof that you are 21. Your parents have more than enough money to bail you out of jail, however, they won't bail us out too.") but never one that banned sparkly items. But, since I am the intrepid heroine in this review, I snuck in wearing my partially sequinned top. After sidling into the lounge, I checked out the atmosphere. The walls are painted a deep red and adorned with paintings of '30s looking gansters doing shady deeds. Sadly, only one small area had the red velvet wallpaper. The few tables are overlarge steel martini glasses, each with their own olive and the little seating they had was pretty darn comfy. Most of the small space was empty... I would presume for dancing. There was no live music. Also a bummer. Instead, there was, as one member of my party so quaintly referred to it as, roller rink music piped throughout the venue. Dear reader, don't get me wrong, it was pretty fun nonetheless with Prince, No Doubt and other cheesy classics. As for the drinks, there isn't anything truely exciting to report. Good selection of liquor moderately priced. With regard to drink strength, I've had stronger. The oddest and most unexpected part of the evening surfaced when the patrons started arriving. The crowd was filled with cowboys in ten gallon hats with belt buckles to match, young Abercrombie & Fitch shoppers with their polo shirt collars turned up and others sported Rocawear. Oh right, the clientele was approximately 75 percent male which totally worked in my favor and oddly mirrored my party's makeup. So, this was our evening. All and all, I gave it four stars 'cause, even though it wasn't as expected, it was still fun. read more

So my friend and I werebalking in and she accidentally got tripped by another person in the bar... The person who tripped said I'm sorry but the security guard was incredibly rude and mean. There was two security guards and one other man who wore's shirt that said staff, he start to call her names andbetray spewing hateful things oriented towards the fact that she was transgender.....it's a squandering that this time and age we can talk grow and on top of it my friend got pushed to the point that her hand got pretty beat up. Is no-one safe from being hurt for being who they are? Please handle this, we also called when we got home and we talked to Drew who works there and she said what had happened. And I just really hope someone handles the situation and gets rid of this hateful person who was really mean and my hateful and transphobic towards my friend... Sad. read more
