This place has major Rat Pack vibes and I'm here for it! The walls are covered in classic photos of all the old Hollywood greats and the whole space feels like stepping into a retro lounge with a modern but classy twist! The bartenders were awesome, always super attentive without hovering, and they clearly know their cocktails! I tried a couple, including a perfectly smooth espresso martini that kept me wanting another. They were spot on! This was our first time at The Boardroom in Modesto, and it absolutely won't be our last. The space itself is sleek, stylish, and has an amazing vibe from the moment you walk in. Stephanie, the bartender, truly made the experience unforgettable. She made one of the best Old Fashioned I've ever had, and every sauce she added to the food was next-level--seriously to die for. The menu has something for everyone, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. We live about 45 minutes away, but the great service, incredible food, and overall atmosphere make it completely worth the drive. I had to leave a bit early, but they even have a DJ on the weekends, which adds to the fun energy. I am a pescatarian and a very picky eater: I ordered the Shrimp "Bang Bang" lettuce wrap and it was so good! It was so delicious that I didn't get a photo! The drinks were amazing! I had some type of watermelon drink with a waterfall of tajin on the side of the glass and fresh, homemade chamoy on the side (Ask for Steph to make it. She knows wasssup!) I've never had such a ridiculous experience at a bar in my life. I showed three different forms of valid ID--and somehow that still wasn't "good enough" for the staff here. Instead of using common sense or professionalism, they decided to make it personal and claimed they "weren't comfortable" serving me. That's not hospitality--that's arrogance. If this is how they treat paying customers who come prepared and follow the law, I can only imagine how they treat everyone else. Save yourself the time, the money, and the embarrassment of dealing with a staff that clearly doesn't know how to do their job. Plenty of other bars nearby actually want your business. If your going to charge a premium on your drinks, at least know how to make them. I was pretty disappointed on the overly bittered manhattan. A drink I sort of expect any upscale bar to be able to make without messing it up, specially on a night with only 5 or 6 people total in the bar. It was a slow night and there was no need to rush out drinks. From my point of view that bartender needs to learn his basics... or at least start tasting his drinks before sending them out. That is what the little black straws are for... from one bartender to another. You should learn what a proper drink should taste like. the second issue here, honestly, it doesn't bother me that much but they do check IDs like they expect every person that comes in to have a fake ID. Guy took my ID, put it under a light, rubbed his thumb over it a few times, looked at it again, gave it a bit of a bend then looked at it again only to hand it back saying they couldn't take damaged IDs lol. I do happen to always carry a second form of ID on me but that was the weird little over a minute I have ever spend with a bartender. He then proceeded to do the same with my second form of ID lol. Came here for a friend's birthday on a Saturday night. It was pretty chill. We had the entire upstairs. The VIP area also has its own bathroom with its amazing for the ladies in heels. Wouldn't wanna walk up and down the stairs every time you need to go tinkle. The hostess was fast & friendly. The owner David always comes and checks on you as well. A bottle for VIP is $200. Comes with 4 chasers? I'm not sure if they had/ have any specials bc I didn't pay. Ambiance is lounge like with a variety of music. Top hits, old school plays. They had a DJ that night but other nights they play music off a jukebox you can put money in. There is never a cover charge. They're specialty drinks are pretty good too. I always order Sex at the Boardroom. It's a tequila & champagne mixed drink if im not mistaken. I'm pretty much here maybe every other weekend or so. When I spotted this place on yelp and saw it was within walking distance of my hotel I immediately planned on heading over for dinner and a cocktail. The site said there was a dress code so I donned my sport coat before heading out. I felt a little silly...there was not another sport coat or suit wearing man within 5 miles of me. When I entered I was one of two customers and I had to wait for the bartender to get done messing around on his cell phone for a minute before I was acknowledged. Not the best foot forward. Service overall ended up being good but distracted. The food was pretty good but the star of this boardroom was the manhattan, well executed (as it should be for about 9 bucks) with the traditional rye whiskey. read more

First visit was about a week ago, during what appeared to be a slow period--6pm on a Saturday night. Maybe this place gets busy later into the evening? There was only one bartender on duty so service was a bit slow; we were in no hurry so it wasn't a deal breaker by any means. But there were a few disappointments. Firstly, there's not a cocktail list? Really? They have nearly every spirit you could think of--they have chartreuse on hand but no cocktail list? Who are you, mysterious cocktail drinker who loves a drink with chartreuse in it, with the recipe committed to memory? Secondly, The Boardroom's logo has a standard martini glass in it, but they have stemless martini glasses to serve their customers? I know these were very popular glassware a few years ago but as martini glasses, they're rather terrible! Thirdly, while the rest of the interior is way groovy, the generic photos scattered about of the rat park are way tired (it feels like they went to a college poster sale y'all). I'm still curious to give this place another shot when they have live music (and to see if a second shot is all this place needs to become a downtown favorite). read more

Never going here again. I witnessed security choking a man as he was calmly leaving. They beat him up pretty bad. Security also pushed me and others after we told them to stop. On a recent business trip to Modesto I stopped by this place to grab a beer and a bite to eat. The bar has a nice modern and classy feel to it, with vast seating areas, a large bar, multiple televisions, and plenty of libations to choose from. I was greeted by a friendly bartender and offered a drink. While waiting for my Hefeweizen I browsed the the food menu and decided to get the Buffalo Sliders. That's four Buffalo-style diced chicken breast sliders on plain buns with blue cheese crumbles. The sliders were very dry, from the chicken itself to the ratio of bread and even the cheese. It made enjoying them quite difficult and although I picked at the insides out of mere starvation, I mostly concentrated on the beer. The place was not at all busy and the other bartender enjoyed her idle time while openly texting and relaxing. Meanwhile, a commotion broke out outside with some passerbyer who evidently got into a fist fight with his girlfriend. I only learned this after the fact as it was quickly broken up. No police presence was necessary. Deciding to call it a night, I paid my bill, which took an unusually long time to be processed for no reason at all, and headed out. Maybe next time I am around I'll visit for yet another beer. read more

I went there with a wedding party in 9/28 and asked for the unoccupied upstairs VIP section there was some bartering then we were able to have access for $400 plus booze, not crazy but pricey for a empty room at 11. We were there for an hour when the staff fold is that shit water literally was running through the down stairs bar and we would have to leave. I understand the catastrophe but we were escorted out without any comps. This is bullshit! While the staff was great I think management needed a good swift kick in the ass This was ridiculous and unprofessional. Do not make reservations here and actually expect to rely on them. My husband reserved their "VIP Room" (really just some uncomfortable couches upstairs) three weeks in advance of our night out for my birthday. Three days before the big day they call to cancel on us because their DJ wants to have an entourage in the VIP room. No apology, no offer to comp us anything, pretty much just said they would save us a table but only if we still bought bottle service. Fortunately another local bar was able to accommodate our large group at the last minute, and we ended up shutting that place down and having a great time. It is more upscale so there is a dress code. As a result, It tends to attract an older and more sophisticated crowd. I don't recommend it if you're looking for someplace a little more wild. They definitely make sure you do not go into the reserved space. Even though there were only 4 people in that space, there were no exceptions. (Of course, if it had been my reservation, it is definitely a nice benefit!) The drinks were perfect and the atmosphere fun. The only other issue we had was how muggy it was in the building.
