Came here for a late dinner to catch up with some friends. Warm night so we sat on their patio under the string lights, very cute. Our server was incredibly attentive and friendly. She automatically came out with waters and put in our drink orders. We ordered mules and a mojito (they are strong wow) and then we ordered the papas bravas, which were delicious. The best part was my entree--the lobster mac and cheese. It was absolutely to die for and I'm not even a huge lobster fan. My friends got the chicken pesto pasta and the mix and match tacos. We were in need for a late night spot with delicious food with many options and the speakeasy did NOT disappoint. Nadine provided us with spectacular recommendations to navigate decision paralysis in face of mouth watering menus and she provided a blanket for extra coziness. We had the short-braised ribs which were phenomenal and the sirloin was a close second. We even got a dessert after the kitchen closed, we are VERY pleased! We enjoyed listening to the echoes of the nearby club and felt part of the life and soul of this singular Petaluma street. Although the service was great, prices reasonable and outdoor seating pleasant -- I found the food disappointing. We arrived on a Saturday at 6pm, and had the steak, and polenta with short ribs. The steak was thin and overcooked, with mushy overdone brussel sprouts and decent mashed potatoes. The short ribs weren't impressive either. Serving sizes were on the small side. We tried both sauvignon blanc and pinot noir, and received smaller glasses (perhaps 4 oz). The pinot noir was ok, the sauvignon blanc was below average. So no, not going back. The Coconut fried plantain was my favorite, it has a lot of flavor. My friends both got the trip tip sandwich and fries. While eati g outaide we inquired about the "Big Easy". This lovely and intimate feeling Bistro is perfect for a date, meaningful conversations or small group meetings. Their happy hour offers a decent selection of tapas and other shareable bites to tempt you. The ambience is lovely and inviting, with the outdoor seating covered by wrought iron trellises of vines, giving it a very intimate and European feel. The space is really small and cozy. Staff was friendly but not very attentive. Their co2 was out so no draft beer was available. All of the food was under seasoned. The fried potatoes and dipping sauce were awesome (after adding salt)! I could have eaten two or three helpings of that and been quite happy. I had the tacos and they were fine. They all needed salt and hot sauce, but otherwise were good. My wife had short ribs and they were good after adding salt. Overall it was fine. I would try it again at some point. It could have been an off night. Great location close to all downtown Petaluma has to offer. read more

Buckle up, folks. We came for the lobstah mac & cheese. And stayed for the wings. Kale Caesar, it was good. Calamari, also very good. The wings. The wings!! We got that as a lil snacky snack, sauces on the side. Let me tell ya they did not disappoint. Very hot, would recommend breaking them open to let them breathe. But otherwise, a fan favorite. Both were really well made, I didnt need to order a 2nd, but would ve if I wasnt with the family. $$$ - What you pay is what you get. You can buy inexpensive items for 10 bucks or less, which are okay and good for kids. Otherwise expect to pay $20 per person, not including drinks, for really quality good tasting food thats definitely worth it I ordered the Taco Trio w/ Coconut Plantains as the protein. MY GOD! Luckily Speakeasy is staffed by a bunch of nice insomniac hipsters whom serve up quality meals late into the night until 2am, 7 days a week. Amazing! There's also a nice enough selection of draft beers, wine, and craft cocktails. $6 Papas Bravas...I spent 10 days in Spain, and this was better than any Spanish tapas spot I visited. The potatoes were nice and crispy, and the sauces was creamy and delicious...just a little too spicy. $10 Polenta...this classic creamy corn Italian dish with a twist: blue cheese, bacon and egg transforms this into tasty all day breakfast-like meal. Tacos...we got 2 salmon and 2 steak tacos. As San Diegans, we safely say these are creative but good at the same time. Unfortunately they were just luke warm when they came out to us. 4 tacos for $16, or 2 for $9. $11 Veggie Burger...as good as a veggie burger can be. My one warning is that Speakeasy is a TINY place with 5 inside tables and 5 bar seats. Outdoor seating is available, but winters in Petaluma can be freezing, at least for us San Diegans. read more

On a drive from SF up to Sonoma, we were looking for a late night dinner that wasn't fast food. I was so happy to have found this little place!! Kind of hidden in this little square and covered in vines and flowers. It was chilly outside but they had space heaters that kept that patio nice and toasty. For such an awesome little space, I couldn't believe that they didn't have any wait. We had our choice of tables (obviously I chose the one closest to the space heater). For dinner I got the tacos. You choose how many and what kinds from a list of about 8 or so different styles. I chose 2 salmon tacos and one beef short rib. I think the salmon tacos were a little dry and overcooked but they still had a lot of flavor. The beef short rib was juicy and tasty and delicious and I'd recommend this one for sure. I got a glass of kombucha to top off the meal. Also, I have to say how much I love that they had kombucha on tap! I got it in a nice little beer glass and it was much more enjoyable than drinking it out of a bottle from the grocery store. As much as I didn't care for the salmon tacos, I still really enjoyed sitting here, on the heated patio, eating a lite meal. I wish I was from the area so I could try more from this place. read more

This isn't my husbands typical restaurant choice, but I think he was pleasantly surprised! We will definitely be going back! Tucked away behind Main Street a little hidden gem! I was apprehensive but as soon as we got the salad I was delighted! We sat outdoor next to the heater after it rained and we were comfortable. Yum! Speakeasy is such a nice little spot central to everything in downtown Petaluma. We were initially drawn to them based upon their menu and the ability for everyone in our group of 3 to find something delicious. We were sat without a wait on the patio by who was apparently our server. However, between the time of sitting and her greeting us again to take drink orders, it was a substantial amount of time and we were already set to order. Between the time we ordered our drinks and the time we received them, service was also very slow. However, our server was very friendly and enthusiastic. The food itself was pretty good. I ordered a short rib taco that was delicious and coated in a delicious cilantro sauce. I also split half of a tri-tip sandwich. 90% of this sandwich was delicious, but there were a few pieces of very chewy meat that I couldn't eat. The chipotle sauce on the sandwich was also incredible. It wasn't very spicy, but more creamy-- which is just the way I like it. I would definitely try again-- it is always hard to gauge on a single visit. read more

Wow! We came for 1 drink and stayed for 3. While walking up, a band was setting up that looked to be few people. It ended up being 10 plus people! They played fantastic old school jazz tunes and thoroughly entertained the diners, drinkers and passers by. We tried the Papas Bravas to start. They were perfectly cooked and topped with a delicious spicy sauce. Be sure task about items not on the menu. We had a great cauliflower dish. One of the best Pork Belly tacos I've ever had .They have a Butternut squash Salad with cranberries that has brussel sprouts garbanzos carrots in this warm wonderful light olive oil sautee...omg so good. There restrooms are located across the way in this castle looking place that makes you feel like you're walking through a dungeon to use the restroom it's kind of comical. Speakeasy is a cute little place (6 tables or so inside plus bar seating) and maybe 8 or so more tables outside on the patio. I noticed the heat lamps outside on the cold night, but we still couldn't handle the cold. Pros: - It's open late! 2 AM every night (morning LOL). And in the little town of Petaluma, that really is late. - Great soup of the day. It was sweet potato. Creamy with a nice topping. - Cocktail choices interesting (kombucha + more alcohol), but I wish they had a few more. - Menu - looks to change seasonally. Some interesting choices. Didn't get the fries, but they looked yummy. And everyone knows my weakness for good fries. Interesting vegetarian options too. -Service was very nice. Asked many times if everything was okay. Con: - Could have a few more cocktail choices - Bathroom is across the little courtyard and not the cleanest. I could see coming here for a normal dinner, to relax with a book (as someone was doing) or for a late night snack. Speakeasy is pretty versatile. Sorry, no secret doors that I know of. read more

I actually ordered it because I wasn't in the mood for anything specifically but my wife was placing an order and I figured I would try something that didn't sound good to me at all or I'd never typically order. The panko crusted chicken was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. The pickles and avocado/onion combo all came together in a lovely texturally satisfying minage a tois. I need to know where those sourdough rolls are coming from because I will be dangerous if I can get my hands on those (I'm a sandwich maniac). Bravo bravo bravo and keep it going my good people. I stumbled upon this place after a Yelp event a couple of years ago, as it looked inviting and warm. I sat at the bar and chatted with staff, everyone was friendly and attentive. This time I brought a friend with me after wine tasting at La Crema and Barber Cellars; we needed some grub. It was quite busy at night, so we sat at the bar. Our server Michael looking like a younger Jude Law took our orders and recommended the peanut butter dessert. Good thing neither one of us have peanut allergies. The Chef changes up the menu and loves to create new dishes; she's extremely talented. Last time I remember the succulent sweet & spicy pork belly with brown rice cake. This time, I ordered the fried chicken with bacon jam (tender & juicy) accompanied by shredded brussels sprout salad - interesting. I would order this dish again. We also shared some tacos. Every time I come to Petaluma, I think about this place. Their other establishment is the Big Easy located in the same alley. It's a jazz club, check out the calendar for events. We enjoyed the outdoor dining here as it's located by the fountain and all the yummy dessert spots you can think of. This time we tried the hearty salad and the lobster Mac n cheese. Both nicely done. They have heating lamps outside plus nice lighting. Only thing is folks drive thru the alley so there's random moments of loud engine noises and some cars driving thru. My first thought when entering this restaurant was that it was tiny! There were only about 5 tables and 3 bar seats. But I quickly began to love it with the friendly employees and the cozy atmosphere. Speakeasy Burger ($10) - Surprisingly great! It was pretty big and the meat was seasoned really well. It had a mayo/chipotle sauce on it that was really nice with a hint of spice. The side of fries wasn't great, they were a little under-done and cold. I have no idea what the beer we had was called, it was some kind of citrus ipa that tasted a little bit like passion fruit. It was amazing! Also what a great place for people watching. We saw old men getting drunk in the bar across the alley, and teenage girls talking photos of each other skipping in the grass and flipping their hair out repeatedly. Absolutely hilarious. read more

came on a Wednesday Night and so GLAD we chose this spot, my buddy and I were hungry after the gym so we gave this place a try. This place has a little outside dining area with shade and the inside consists of a couple tables and a bar, a little smaller but perfect for a quick bite /drink. We had Natalie as our server and she helped us choose the best food items! We went with the LOBSTER MAC AND CHEESE...BOMB, SWEET AND SPICY WINGS AND TACOS OF SHORT RIB, Pork Belly, Jackfruit Beef, the MAC was the best Mac I've had in a while. The wings were solid with strong flavor and the pork belly and short rib tacos were very tender and flavorful, but the jack fruit sauce on the beef taco wasn't my favorite, sauce alittle too tangy . We ended our meal with the House Made Bread Pudding and Strawberry Cheesecake, the House made bread pudding was to DIE for, the cheesecake was alright . We arrived at about 8pm. And there we were pleased to see that the outdoor seating was available and heaters were nearby. There is inside seating at the restaurant and their nearby music venue. We sat outside and were still able to enjoy the music . The out door seating had plexiglass wind breakers as well. We ordered the veggie burger (if you have a wimpy tongue, have them not put on the aioli spread). Also, the fries are "skinny fries". Also got the beet salad and the hearty salad. The vinaigrette is mild and savory. Note also that the hearty salad is a warm (arrived toasty hot) salad. The last entree was the grilled salmon on carmelized Brussels sprouts with bacon. The Brussels sprouts were awesomely savory and the salmon was perfectly buttery good. The soup of the day was a cauliflower cream and it had just the perfect amount of seasoning melted into the creaminess. For those of you who really like strong seasoning, this soup might not be for you. Our waitress was so friendly. She new the menu pretty well, and willingly went to ask for the specifics I was concerned about (spiciness). We were pleasantly surprised and would return. If it had not been so late, the lobster Mac and cheese was my choice.
