My wife and I have lived in Petaluma for 10 years, and driven past the Washoe House and almost each time one of us would say "we should go there some time." And we were driving home and we were both hungry and we decided to stop and have lunch at the last minute. Our server, Lorrie, was great, came quickly with our Arnold Palmers while we decided on food. My wife chose the BLT, and I chose a burger naked (no lettuce, tomato, onion, secret sauce) just a 1/3 of a pound burger on a brioche bun. I specified "medium rare/rare" and chose Steak Fries as my choice. The results blew me away! Great Arnold Palmer with each of the components were allowed to shine. But the really amazing component was my hamburger: * the meat: it came "medium-rare to rare" even steakhouses don't get it right any more. It's been at least 5 years that got even close. * the bun: it was a briche bun that had enough structure for the bun to taste like a but NOT your typical 3 in high soggy marshmallow that I usually get The steak fries looked like they were burned. I was wrong. It was not oily. I added some salt and it was a delicious, if not "beautiful" that worked great for me! Our server answered all my questions and said nothing new here for us. We ended up here last night for V-day. The place was packed but we had reservations. It seemed a little unorganized at first and many walk in got turned away due to other reservations but many tables never even showed up so that was unfortunate for the restaurant. We went for prime rib and everyone raved about how fantastic it was as well as the chicken Marsala. 3 of us got the herbed lemon chicken and although it was good it was very plain. I'd love to see a lemon and caper sauce on that and I'd be back weekly!! The entrees come with a lot of food and at their price point a tremendously great deal!! When you walk in, you are in the bar area, though there are a few tables. It's seat yourself, and the waitstaff will come find you. There are quite a few larger tables in the other rooms. I was waited on fairly quickly, and the food was brought out pretty quickly as well. I ordered the ribeye and a side salad. The salad was a bit small, though a good Italian dressing. This is a classic old timey roadhouse that oozes history. It's worth stopping in for a cold beer, if nothing else, and to look a the old photos on the wall. The burger was good but maybe a bit overpriced at $20. I havent eaten anything else there but they do have a fairly extensive menu. Honestly never had a bad time here, even the 1st time my Father brought me here at 21 then he had 1 too many and was asked to leave. lol! I guess maybe you had to be there. I go here when I'm in the mood for a more laidback bar, bar experience. The food is always great and so are the drinks. It's on the smaller side but theres a large bar and plenty of tables along the outer side by the windows. My favorite part is the dollars on the ceiling. I put one up my first time there and another just last month to memorialize my soul dog who had passed away. We went twice while in the area. Once at lunch-but we shared apps and once for breakfast. Liked the apps, the garlic oysters had a lot of flavor (much better than the bbq ones. Had too much sauce on them). The artichoke dip was really tasty, with I think house made chips. The breakfast was enjoyable, I tried the French toast with eggs, bacon and hash browns. French toast was pretty good. Hash browns could've been a little crispier for me. My partner had the chorizo breakfast skillet and it was a big portion and flavorful. Ordered Bloody Mary's, they were ok, I like mine a little more spicy. Service was good too. Nice waitress waited on us both visits. The locals all hang out in the bar, it's a popular spot. This very cute old school bar and restaurant pays homage to old Sonoma county. The restaurant has plenty of parking in their lot. They have a great lunch and dinner menu with great values. The huge cowboy cut of prime rib was fantastic and very satisfying. Their New York strip was also grilled and delicious. All entrees come with sides and salad/soup. Although this place is pure as the driven slush which used to be fun.. and it hasn't changed in the 45 years I've been stopping in, now lowers the enjoyment level, its a novelty act that seems prevalent in dicey joints, if thats what you want.. This is a rowdy, kick-up-your-cowgirl boots kind of place with real history and roadhouse charm. It caters to ranchers and good old boys, so if you don't like to at least be entertained by that crowd, if not join in, this isn't your spot. I was super excited to go here for the first time with my boyfriend. We both love it and hadn't been there together. We went at a very slow time, mid week and mid day. So we were careful to ask if the kitchen was open. We were assured it was and to have a seat wherever we liked. However, we must have done something to piss off the people working there because our food was completely inedible. No smiles for us, only suspicious glares. Were we dressed wrong or something? The salad was drowning in cheap dressing. The fish and chips were fried to the point of being burnt, and the pieces of fish were oddly shaped, skinny, and small. My grilled cheese, which was advertised as being made with customer's choice of local Spring Hill Cheese (I wasn't asked what kind of cheese I'd like), came out looking like sadly melted kraft cheese spilling out from cheap white bread like bright orange plastic oozing onto the plate. The only garnish? A sloppy pile of sad looking pickle slices that should have been tossed last week. The service was so off and strange that we were honestly afraid to touch the food, suspecting it may have been tampered with or even spit in! This inedible meal cost as much as we spent for dinner and drinks last week at a world class coastal restaurant on the bay, where we were given warm, friendly treatment that made us feel appreciated for who we are- locals that have been spending our money at these places for years and have a lot of happy memories there. Ambiance is authentic. Many have already mentioned the dollar bills on the ceiling. To me it's the quaint old building with the red paint and white trim, and the almost Americana neon sign we don't have back in France. Found this place on Yelp. I was staying at a nearby KOA. My wife and son came here about 5:30p for dinner. The parking lot was pretty full. We walked in and didn't know what to do. Do we seat ourselves? Do we wait to be seated? Turns out we just found a table and sat down. A waiter came over with menus and took our drink order. They had s children's menu so my son ordered some chicken strips with fries. My wife got the raviolis with meat sauce. I got the pork medallions. Everyone's food was great. The chicken and vegetable soup that came with the entre was hearty and delicious. The decor is unique and interesting. Watch out for the chairs. Some of them are very wobbly. I'd go back. read more

How on earth have I been Yelping for this long without doing a review of the legendary Washoe House? This is long overdue. I'm sickened that this place's average rating isn't so great. However we all know that snooty wine snobs run amok out here ruining everything just so they can look at some eyesore vineyrds. My wife and I started off with the fried cheese curds. I was expecting something similar to mozzarella sticks but holy crap we got something way better. Also, there was a lot of it. This appetizer alone is a good reason to come here. I ordered the ribeye steak and opted for the bacon potato soup. It was a good soup, surprisingly filling for it's size. The waitress was attentive, there are many reviews complaining about the service. This was not our experience. I wasn't expecting drink refills but they were offered. The ribeye steak was great, they know what medium rare is. In many restaurants it's a gamble when you order a steak, this place nailed it. The steak was also very tender and tasted amazing. I opted for french fries and ordered them well done and wasn't disappointed. The steamed veggies were what I would expect steamed veggies to be. I quickly realized that I was running out of real estate in my stomach however and decided they were a low priority. I went home stuffed with food still on my plate. This isn't a place for fancy snobbish types and that's a good thing. Those people can go to Napa for that if they really want it that way. We passed by this old house with a restaurant on the way to Bodega bay. I just wanted to try since the place looks like very historic and with character. But should have listened to the reviews! We went there on a Sunday morning expecting lots of people but we were the only ones aside from the people at the back corner that looked like they're from around here as they were hanging around with friendly chitchats. It took 15 minutes for us to get asked if we wanted coffee. And yes we do want coffee to stay awake from waiting. The waitress was even surprised to see us there sitting beside the window looking out Roblar Rd. The coffee was very watered down. Then another 15 more minutes of wait to get our orders. Not exaggerating. More waiting to get our food served. Nothing really fancy. The same ol American breakfast of eggs, toast, meat and potatoes. Nothing even fancy in the way it was cooked. I maybe could have done better if we were staying in an extended stay hotel with a kitchen. Me and my husband enjoy the food here , we come in every month or so for usually a early dinner , about a week ago we came in around 7 , got a table in the bar because it was packed . Usually not my first choice on a play to sit but oh well right . To my surprise many of the people at the bar looked very very young , under 20 for sure . And to go along with what I noticed , I also overheard a younger gentleman and his friend talk about how he loves that the lady bartender working knows him personally, knows he's underage , knows his Id is fake , and still serves him everytime he comes in . Coincidentally, the boys friend sat right down next to him and ordered a drink no problem as well , assuming he's also underage . I'm concerned that other underage kids may be coming in and getting drinks as well consider the bartender doesn't seem to give a crap and even looks drunk herself ! This place has really seen better days (better decades?) and has aged poorly. That said, people still flock here as a testament to the power of history, and the un-fussy appeal of this county monument. We made it to the parking lot, rolled inside and were met with some somewhat hostile stares in the bar area and waited for someone to direct us to the food area. After some time, people from the back trickled forward and Jennifer ushered us to a quieter area with a dining feel, and we were seated. The menu is limited, and for those of you wanting something homemade, local, or with special dietary restrictions, this is not the menu you want. For this vegetarian, my options were super limited. Dad ordered the NY strip steak with a loaded baked potato ($34) and a topping of sauteed mushrooms ($4). He asked about wine and they said they only carried a house red and a house white but couldn't tell us anything specific about either so he opted for the red ($8). I went for the cheese tortellini with broccoli ($23) and hubby ordered the buffalo burger ($18). Honestly, even with low expectations, the dishes we were served still disappointed me. My dish tasted completely pre-frozen, boxed, and bland. The broccoli was not remotely fresh, and the sauce was clearly frozen or canned. Hubby's burger was very average and mediocre. Dad vacuumed his dish down, but he'll eat just about anything. Ultimately, it was over $100 for the three of us to have an extremely overpriced meal of bland, processed, unremarkable foods. There was not a single thing on the menu I would return for, and I am continually shocked places like this can stay in business. Came down to the Washoe Hiuse for lunch. Haven't been in years. If you want good old fashioned drinks at a historic bar and some delicious old fashioned cooking this is the place for you.
