We were searching for a place to grab lunch. Several places in the area closed around 2:00pm. Luckily, we stumbled upon Wild Goat Bistro. Seemed to have a chill vibe with indoor and outdoor seating...plus they were open. The food was incredible. We started with wings, then went on to the foghorn pizza (think that's the name of it). Our waiter, Arthur then asked if we wanted dessert. We were stuffed but everything was amazing up to that point, so we opted for carrot cake. It was the right decision. We've eaten here before for dinner, but sat inside. Today we had lunch outside on their lovely deck. This time I needed Gluten free and low in lactose items. Christine was fabulous in helping me figure out sauces and ingredients. She was extremely helpful, knowledgeable and deserves a big raise. :) I was already eyeballing the polenta fries (heart Polenta). I switched the sauce to a marinara that was perfect. I also ordered the wings with their homemade caesar dressing and the chipotle sauce. Both were amazing with the chicken. Husband loved their cheeseburger. We had a reservation and came here on Saturday for lunch. We were seated quickly outside on the shaded patio area- While it's not right on the river, it's right around the corner from the river. FOOD- For lunch my partner and I shared the fog lifter pizza that had pepperoni, spicy sausage, and bacon and a bbq salad. While the sausage was not in the least bit spicy, the pizza and the salad were the perfect combo to feed the both of us, where we were satisfied and ready to explore Petaluma after lunch without it being too heavy! I met my friend in downtown Petaluma and tried Wild Goat Bistro for the first time. This is one of her favorite restaurants, as it's in walking distance from her home. Tucked into the Great Petaluma Mill with dining areas that wrap around the exterior as well as other rooms tucked inside, it inherits the vitality and charm of western Petaluma's historic district. Marina greeted us at the host stand and also turned out to be our server. Although we didn't see many other waitstaff or bussers during our visit, our service wasn't lacking. She checked on us and our plates were cleared away in a timely fashion. We started with the Polenta Fries, which had pesto to garnish them. I'm often careful about eating pesto since I have a customer-focused job which prompts me to avoid overindulging in garlic. (I know. So sad!) The pesto was quite mild, which might be a drawback for some, but I found it agreeable. My Sonoma Crunch Salad seemed like a fusion of southwest and Asian flavors. The portion was quite generous. My friend had their WGB Burger, which she loved so much she almost tried to eat it all in one sitting, but instead opted to take half home for the next day. But the highlight of the meal for me was the Ultimate Italian Lemon Cake, which Marina told me was her favorite. She described it as light, which it is - surprisingly so. The cake is delicate and the fillings aren't heavy either. Not as sugary as angel food cake. Really, I want to go back - specifically for dessert next time! So, as far as location and service, I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The salad I had as well as the polenta fries were good, but didn't wow me. However, the menu has plenty of options for everyone in your family or group and a reasonable price point for a nice night out in Sonoma County. Between the four of us we tried a Margherita pizza (regular crust) , the adult grilled cheese, and WGB burger. Everything was pretty good, but nothing special with the exception being the burger patty. It was very tasty, and cooked exactly how we'd ordered it (medium rare). Service may have been having an off day, as our entrees arrived spread out over a ten-minute period. The staff seemed stressed, so it may have been an off-day. I had the WGB burger, and it featured a large patty of beef, cooked just the way I like it (medium) with vine ripened tomatoes, sweet pickles , and homemade ketchup, on a soft and tasty bun. A mixed green salad is served on the side. My dad had the apricot turkey burger, and he loved it, and my mom had the Planet burger, and she also loved that dish. Atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with lots of fun and festive goat paintings everywhere. How can you not be happy when there are smiling goats looking at you from the various walls of the restaurant? I went here a few weeks ago on a trip to Petaluma/bay area. Me and my family came across this wonderful little lunch spot right next to the Petaluma river. It was very cool and cozy inside. Small but cute seating area, the service and waiters were nice and respectful. I ordered the Chick-a-Luma and shared it with my mom. The pesto was a nice touch, especially the thin apple slices. The apple gave it a sweet, savory flavor, and the chicken was well cooked and high quality. Everything about the sandwich was amazing. Definitely worth the price. I had lunch here a couple of weeks ago with 3 friends. I and one of my friends had a yummy meatloaf sandwich that came with a side salad with a house vinaigrette. The sandwich came on a ciabatta bun, which was super fresh. The meatloaf was delicious. We also ordered as a starter the polenta fries which were crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. I chose this restaurant for my adult son's birthday dinner because of my Memories of the amazing food I'd enjoyed, created by the founding owner / chef. I actually called in and made a quick last minute reservation for four, giving my name and reason of birthday. After the experience tonight, overall i have mixed impressions of the place, leaning toward disappointed. I'd not been there since original founding owner / chef Nancy De Lorenzo sold the place a few years ago. I did not even realize it had sold. However i did notice when walking by at various times that the place has really expanded in availability for seating both inside and out. I attributed it to gained popularity of chef Nancy's cuisine as it had been really amazing. I used to sell her wine back when i sold small production stuff wholesale, and she'd give me a plate of the special. As we waited for the food we'd ordered, we observed another table with a birthday group where they sang happy birthday and gave a piece of cake. I thought oh, that's nice, i had told them it was my son's birthday twice, once over the phone making the reservation, and once more to our server. Sadly we were so hungry we did not slow down to take food pics; presentation was nice; artistic. It was when i asked one of the chefs about the original owner that i found out she was no longer there. I did not realize it had sold! But I found out tonight. Semi Pros: The best part of the meal was the pepperoni & sausage pizza and a get healthy salad (i think that was the name). These were $25 for small pizza that tasted pretty good, about $20+ for salad which was a medium to large size, not huge, with added average tasting chicken pieces ( white meat, kind of plane Jane). We also ordered the $36 pork shank, and the $34 apparently wild cought Atlantic salmon with potato and some kind of apple and Brussel sprouts relish...ok, the pork was pretty good, the meat nicely cooked and shredding (but needed pizazz , maybe more onion and garlic and salt, but pretty nice proportioned dish, overall ). Cons: The salmon, however was shockingly sweet! Sweet with nothing to balance it out. It sorely needed acidity. I had no idea this would be so sweet. I detest sweet fish dishes. Our server became extremely absent and avoidant once we'd ordered. I tried to tell her how i felt about salmon but she kind of just ignored me. When we were finished she asked if we wanted dessert, no thank you, so that meant no birthday cake, were found out. We got the bill and paid $180+ tip (included 2 beers, 1 glass of house white, and one ) I know everything's going up, but it better be excellent when it comes to service. When i go out that's what i pay for, and the food should have been better represented, as I'm an excellent cook myself. And the fact that we were not treated equally to the other birthday group is shaming. Not excited to come back. Sorry folks...I don't like how we were treated. read more
