I wrote a very negative review for the NoHo location and I do not just write negative reviews, because I do want to highlight positive experiences and people who deserves recognition. I should have just came here initially, because Kendra is well versed in the OT field. Total 360 experience at this location, first Lloyd contacted me a day before to make sure they could help me, so we don't waste each other's time, since he was aware of my NoHo experience. I sent images of my splints and Kendra reviewed it and confirmed she was able to help me. I want to say she is the GOAT. Let's be clear regarding the charges, yes, I paid for this session, but it is because Kendra could help me and because it was a time consuming fix, and not something small like a velcro came off or etc. NoHo wanted to charge me to just to write some things in their system and for Lexi to say, you would have to be charged again once I am unable to help you and someone has to do another evaluation. Meanwhile their entire system is connected, so why would I need another evaluation? But let's get back to Kendra - she made my splints so much better, since we troubleshoot the previous issues that were causing the splints to fall apart after 2 months of wear. Hoping the new solve will eliminate breakdown after such a short time frame. read more

Over eight months ago I suffered an excruciating sprain to my right elbow that I could not identify. I couldn't lift grocery bags, make my bed or even wash a dish without pain, but most of all I couldn't lift weights at the gym. I was deeply discouraged. Kendra Barlotta was a God send. She was my PT at the Spear location on Park Place, a 5 mins walk from my office, for six months. Her calm, steady demeanor, skillfulness and knowledge as a physical therapist kept me going during the winter months. I genuinely thought that this pain was my new normal. Just a few words... I don't like pain. No one does. But when you're able to find a place housing wonderful caring and understanding people as the staff at SPEAR...that goes a long way in your painful recovery. I have been attending SPEAR Physical Therapy for a year, now. When I say they remove a huge chunk of my pain and fear thereof...I mean it. Even though my condition causes the pain to return, (rebound with retribution), compels me to continue attending for the relief I receive, while there and a few days after. I walk into SPEAR Physical Therapy and am greeted with kindness. De'Jah smiles so brightly whenever she sees me. Despite the obvious pain on my face, her infectious smile causes me to believe, in the hope they always produce. That this pain will be eradicated, even if only for one night. I went to Spear Tribeca after my hand surgery treating Dupuytren's' contracture. I was out of work for five weeks and first went to Spear after the bandage was taken off. It was a bad wound with a skin graft and it required lots of physical therapy to get back the full range of motion. Kendra B. and her team at Spear were OUTSTANDING! Don't be fooled by how young these people are. They REALLY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING. Kendra's expert wound care really helped move things along and her attentive physical therapy sessions were essential to my recovery. Everyone who works there is professional, informed, and caring. Supremely disappointing experience. The therapy was somewhat effective. Mostly left to my own devices or told to sit with an ice pack. The front desk told me to come as often as I want and that I had a zero copay. I confirmed with them that I did indeed have a zero copay and the man at the front desk said I had so much left on my insurance I could use it as a gym if I wanted then laughed. One full year later I started to get calls that my insurance was denied. Literally a year later. Give me a break. They are asking me to pay now and that is just truly ludicrous. Lauren and her team at Tribeca are knowledgeable, compassionate and really hands-on... Literally I have been dealing with a painful frozen shoulder for close to a year now (originally misdiagnosed by another doctor and other mishaps along the way has made the recovery loooong), but Lauren is my main girl I see twice a week to get me back on track. Since I've been seeing her post-cortisone shot aggressively 2x a week for almost 3 months, my mobility has increased by 150%! I have been to many practitioners over the years for different injuries, and yes - the space itself is very "cozy" - but Lauren knows how to make the most of your time there. I never feel like I'm just waiting around for the next exercise. If you have any questions, she is open and available to walk you through or make corrections to your position. The rest of her staff is equally engaging and friendly - you will get the attention and therapy you need to get you back to your regular lifestyle in no time. read more

Excellent therapy place located in the woolworth building. My physical therapist was Kate and she is incredibly caring and talented. I am always anxious to get back to 100% and she is very meticulous with ensuring that happens. Unlike other PT places I have been to, the PTs and the assistants helping them are very friendly and talkative making it a fun experience. I look forward to my visits rather than dreading then. My husband broke his elbow requiring surgery & PT. We called Spear. When he asked if they accepted our insurance, Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield, they said they would call back to let us know. Never received that call back. Three days later after multiple phone calls he was still getting the run around. The office staff at every medical facility we have ever dealt with looks up insurance immediately & lets you know if your insurance is accepted & what, if any, the co-pay is. We have never experienced such unprofessional ineptitude. If that is indicative of their PT services stay away from these people. read more

I had a partial knee replacement and would never recovered as well or as quickly without Spear Physical Therapy--most especially Kate Esler. She was amazing--incredibly good at her job, very caring and really made the healing process less frightening and helped me understand what to expect. I cannot say enough good things about Kate. Injuries during taekwondo is common and getting back into the motions without proper strengthening is dangerous. I've been working with Caley Brown on my back pain and foot injuries who has been great at being informative and very personal with my injuries. Although I haven't worked with Kate or Andrea, they definitely know their stuff and will definitely assist you with your needs. I never had physical therapy before and was initially skeptical that it would really make a difference. The pain in my knee started to decrease in just 2 weeks! In a total of just 2 months of PT, I feel so much better. I went to several different locations at Spear: Penn Plaza, Chelsea and Tribeca, but I spent most of my time at the Tribeca location and my main therapist was Sara Shoemaker. Sarah and all of the PTs are professional, friendly and very knowledgeable. I always felt comfortable asking Sarah anything regarding my therapy. The techs are also really great. Hopefully I won't ever need to return to physical therapy, but if I do, I'm contacting Sarah at Spear! I would definitely recommend to friends and family! read more

Spear at Park Place in Tribeca is small but mighty. There are locations in Manhattan that are bigger (I've been to 2 of them) but the Physical Therapists at Tribeca are really great and really know how to help you recover from injury or surgery. Lauren is by far one of the most intelligent and caring physical therapists I've ever come across. I am a professional dancer with a Broadway tour and I'm quite picky when it comes to PT and I always find my way back to her. She had helped me to rehab two major ankle surgeries, treat wrist fractures, and shoulder injuries. I'm currently post op after a hip surgery and everything has gone incredibly smoothly. I LOVE this place for so many reasons. They are friendly, accommodating and extremely thorough, but the Number ONE reason I love it is because of Dr. Dhaliwal. She is INCREDIBLE!!!! From the moment she started working with me it was clear that she cares deeply for her patients and always puts them first. Not only did she take her time with asking me all about my carpal tunnel, but she also was very patient when it came to answering all of my questions. I feel completely comfortable with her and every day I get to come to therapy and work with her it feels like a treat. This place has made me a big advocate of Physical Therapy. I've had on and off knee issues since I was 16 ( probably from improper sitting and never taking care of it). It was always light enough to ignore, but by ignore I mean i was sleeping with a knee wrap for 3-4 years prior to coming to physical therapy because my knee felt odd when I slept. None of this was enough to come in, until last March when my knee hurt too much to walk to and from work. I was skeptical that Physical Therapy would really make a difference, but had to give it a chance. The experience has been amazing! I worked with Kate over the course of a few months, and my knee, my back, and I feel great now. I never sleep with a knee wrap, can walk forever with no knee pain, and most importantly have the tools I need in case there is a flare up of pain. I would highly recommend this office particularly. They've been extremely flexible, helpful, and available. Kate is always available via email for questions, reschedules, and everything in between. I would highly recommend coming to this office, and going to Kate for any knee issues you have! read more

Terrible place. With a very painful Type 3 shoulder separation I went in with my insurance card to be sure they accepted it. I had to wait two weeks for an appt. but they assured me there would be an opening before and they'd call me. That didn't happen even though I called them. When I arrived for my appt two weeks later they said they don't take my insurance but I could pay upfront and hope for reimbursement. I went berserk! Horrible creatures running a sloppy, scammy office and leaving people in pain. read more

Highly Recommend!! After recent knee surgery, I have been working with Andrea Bettini for the past month to rehab my knee. She is absolutely fantastic-extremely knowledgeable, informative, always asks questions and very patient. For me, it has been a frustrating process not being able to do my normal day to day activities, but Andrea's motivation, well planned out exercises and constant reinforcement keeps me going and has significantly helped in my recovery. In addition,while you are working on your exercises, the PT assistants are always on hand to ensure you are doing them correctly and answer any questions. I made an appointment at Spear because I was recommended to Kate Esler. The recommendation couldn't have been better! It was clear from the beginning questions to the endless personal time Kate spent with me that she was extremely dedicated to her patients and extremely knowledgeable. After squeezing in an appointment into my work day (because this location had no pre- or post- work availability), I arrived on time for my first appointment and then waited 38 minutes, never to be seen. When I arrived I was told my therapist was running a little bit late, and thought okay, but after waiting as long as I could, I got up and told the receptionist I couldn't wait any longer and asked for my money back (they make you pay the co-pay upfront), at which point the therapist appeared and apologized for running late (she still wasn't ready to see me and blamed the previous person running late for her lateness). I think this is unacceptable and disrespectful especially for a first appointment and a (new patient!!) and will be finding a new physical therapy practice. I do not recommend them and haven't experienced such a low degree of professionalism in a medical office. read more

The therapists are great. However, the receptionist is the worst I have ever come across in my life (and it takes a lot for me to say that). I have been trying to reach the office for 5 days now calling a few times each day, she does not answer. When I needed a receipt for my health reimbursement account she said that she would TRY to give it to me the NEXT time I come IF she figures out how to print it from the new system. This is one of the worst customer service I have ever received and it is a shame that this impacts the customers' perspective of the Spear group who has great therapists and who have helped me a great deal. I recommend for management to provide feedback and demand change from the receptionist. read more

When I first arrived I thought my insurance had verified my benefits incorrectly. Which would not be their fault. After talking to my insurance however, I find out they verified my benefits incorrectly TWICE, insisting I had to pay $190 out of pocket to be seen. The result is that I raced to this appointment, was sent away, never saw a therapist. Because of their incompetence. When they thought a patient would have to pay $190 out of pocket they didn't even have the courtesy to call. I could have called my insurance BEFOREHAND and resolved their error. I advise no one to make an appointment here unless you want to waste your time and the therapists' time. read more

Lauren Carlton is a fantastic physical therapist! I have seen her now in 2 different locations with Spear. The new TriBeCa location is conveniently located just off the Park Place subway stop. I know I'm in good hands with Lauren. I have 100% confidence in her knowledge, and she listens to what the issues are. It's like she has a secret magic radar to get straight to the problem. Her instruction is clear and exercises and treatment plan is well explained. The people who work here are lovely and try hard but the factory atmosphere makes it hard to get the personalized attention you need. They really pack them into a single crowded room. My therapist was almost always seeing more than one patient at a time. After my first visit, she didn't modify the exercises to address my issues but rather just had me run through them on my own. I've been to endless P.T. and therapy for all sorts of awkward and debilitating problems, from crippling pelvic pain from urethral stricture surgeries, back surgery, hernia surgery, a paralyzed arm, twisted knee, busted eardrum. I'm a magnet for this type of crap. This place suffers from the same problem most P.T. places suffer from, which is an assembly line sort of approach where they get you in, you get your plan, then with each visit you just go through your exercises and you leave. I was suffering from a thumb sprain and as a drummer and programmer I really, really wanted to try to get over this problem. After months of not improving very much the general message was that it can take a long time and just keep doing the P.T. and hand exercises. Finally I scheduled an appointment with a hand surgeon who had me hold up my hands and immediately noticed the webbing between my right thumb and first finger was super tight - obviously noticeable in the right vs. the left. So they made me a J-shaped brace contraption for my right hand and the hand therapist there also recut and reformed the original braces I got from Spear (which didn't fit very well). Now that I'm slowly working out the hand tightness the exercises are finally starting to help. The point is that there wasn't much question about why isn't this guy getting better, it was just like, well it'll be a few weeks, well maybe a few months, have patience, these things take time. Personally everyone there is super nice and professional and to be fair the program may work better for some people then others but I do feel that more effort could have been made to try to figure out why I wasn't getting better. read more

During my lifetime I have been to many Physical Therapy Offices. (I'm 67) I'm being treated by Lauren Carleton. I can absolutely state without doubt that she is the best Physical Therapist I have worked with. She is hands on. She spends at least 1/2 hour working with her healing hands on my shoulder. She develops very helpful exercise regimens. She is extremely pleasant. She's always smiling and Lauren creates a fun atmosphere for her patients. All the patients are always chatting and laughing as they do their exercises. We all hate those physical therapy exercises but at Spear your are having fun conversation during your therapy. In fact today I spent an extra half hour exercising I was having such interesting conversations with the other patients. If your shy or like a lot of privacy, make sure you tell Lauren that you don't want to be there when Ken is being treated. Otherwise, come on down-you'll get great therapy and have a terrific time. read more
