Great experience. I'm a new patient so I called ahead for an appointment. By chance I got in same day. Filing out the normal doctor paperwork was a breeze. There office is up to date, modern and clean. Their eye examining technology seemed to be the latest available. I'm a first time contact lens wearer and being such Dr. Shaw and staff took their time showing me how to place and remove my trial contacts. Their selection of frames was not only large but filled with quality modern eyewear to include safety glasses. So their outstanding customer service and selection got me two frames and contacts affordably on my first visit. Could not be happier. This is my new spot for sure read more

Went here for a routine eye exam and would definitely recommend Dr. Tilson to everyone! He is friendly, patient, and very knowledgeable- and the best part: he owns a tonometer, so there's no need for the dreaded air puff test! After I moved, I decided to give a new optometrist a try. I chose American Eyecare since it was close to my work. My experience was really sub-par and this compelled me to write a review. The doctor and the receptionist are nice and friendly, but the doctor cared too much about selling his products and charging his patients correctly but paid little attention to investing his money to modern equipments or trial lenses. Or maybe he was just too cheap all together to invest his money to things that actually matter to his patients. The office was rather large for one doctor. He must have been paying too much for his lease since he did not (or could not) acquire the equipment that allowed him to see my optic nerves. Since he did not have that "expensive" equipment, he literally put his face two inches away from mine in order to examine my optic nerves. Well, being super uncomfortable is not the main problem with this place. The power I needed was a quarter step increment while he only stocked half step increments. Since he did not have the quarter power, he had me try on a quarter increment stronger lens although his exam clearly called for a quarter power less. The strong power made me so dizzy and sick. Only after I told him that I felt sick, he told me that he did not have the right power. OMG! What if I did not feel so sick or did not complain? He would have let me buy boxes of the wrong power! Then he wanted my previous optometrist to send him the power of my old lenses. Of course, if I try the power that I was wearing a week ago, I will feel comfortable. He will save a hassle of finding the correct power for me and, more importantly, he will save money since he does not have to order many trial lenses for me. Heck, if I were to just wear the same power as last year, why do I need an eye exam every year? Since he charged me $95 for contact lens fitting, he aught to fit me into the right power with or without my assistance. Instead, he asked me to make his job easier by doing work for him. Since he is so cheap to stock up trial lenses of all power for his patients, I have to wait 1+ weeks to try another pair of lenses. After I paid for an exam and "contact lens fitting", he told me that he had a good collection of sunglasses. First of all, he did not do his job of finding me the right power for my eyes, made me super dizzy and sick, and wasted my time. And now, he wants to sell me stuff. Super annoying. I was very disappointed and annoyed, but since my insurance only covers one eye exam per year, I am stuck waiting for my "trial" set of contact lenses. But I can tell you that this will be the last time I visit American Eyecare. read more

Dr Tilson is laid back and cool with me. Tries to do his little hustle in between, but really pays attention to what would be good for you and not what would look good for you. He has been my optometrist for 21 years now so time and time again......he has diagnosed me properly, given me better quality and prices than walmart or any other optometrist, been patient and listened to me as his patient, took care of the two or three dozen people I have sent his way..... it is a family oriented business so I always feel good on entrance and exit. Did not have a good experience purchasing glasses here. Got headaches with the glasses and the store would not take them back. The glasses also get smudged real easily. Funny how I remember wondering if I even needed all these features on my glasses. I just went with it because it's a doctor's office! They ask you to get a lot of things on your glasses that are not needed. After not able to bear the headaches, I called them again. They gave me the run around and finally told me that I'd lose another $45 if I returned the glasses. It's interesting that I'm the one driving around town, making appointments, calling insurance and trying to make things right, while the office just sits and collects money. Their return policy was nowhere to be found. When the doctor is telling me about how I'd have to pay another $45 for restocking fee and not even one mention for my headaches, I realized that this place is no different than any other business. So why should I go to "just another business" when there's so many of these? read more

Wonderful first experience here! Have been having a weird eye condition, and Dr. Tilson was patient, friendly, and heard me out. He then gave it a thorough look. At appts, some doctors would push all their products on you for purchase which is a deal breaker for me (makes you feel like they don't genuinely care about their patients), but he was the opposite. He told me my options, suggested I try certain things first, then if those aren't effective, I can come back and purchase items if I decide. I loved that. I was referred to Dr. Tilson by a close friend after having problems getting my prescription just right. I had visited two other eye doctors and no one could create the ideal pair of glasses or even cared enough to get it right. Lots of excuses and the eye doctor telling me this is the way it is with aging eyes. Lots of excuses and a bunch of wasted time and money. After seeing Dr. Tilson, he diagnosed me with having cataracts at age 58, which is why I needed a more precise eye glass prescription along with some special attention. He put out a bunch of effort to get this prescription just right for me. I needed computer glasses and driving glasses that were crisp and clear. Dr. Tilson was patient and his costs are very reasonable. I am so thankful for him and Melissa, his office assistant. She is extremely patient and very knowledgeable. Dr Tilson has provided my eyecare for over 20 years, and before that took care of my parents eyecare. My first visit was an urgent need when wind blew gravel into my eye in a parking lot. I was not even their patient, but my Mom was. I phoned and they agreed to see me immediately. All turned out well, and I began going to Dr Tilson for my eye exams. He gets the Rx correct every time, and I also order my glasses through them because every time the glasses are made correctly per the Rx.
