Businesses operating during the pandemic, "thanks, but no thanks" Review #5 without too deeply discounting emergency room staff, ambulance crews, policemen, and firefighters, i'm having a hard time coming up with a more essential business in the Age of COVID than cable TV. i gotta hunt 'em down a couple of times a week to get my WIFI (which, in spite of their bullshit promises, only connects in half my house) talking to my smart TV. and it's NOT like i live in the middle of nowhere -- i'm in old Carlsbad, a short stroll from the part of town local's (who still say "Elm") call the village. SPECTRUM continues to be a cautionary tale -- with a virtual monopoly, they can be as dysfunctional as they want and every time i deal with them, they raise the bar. this company is the poster child for why competition is a good idea (and a cogent argument for why we shouldn't pass out "participation" trophies to our kids -- maybe we should set the earning self-esteem bar a little higher) -- competition is important. if you're essentially the only game in town, you don't have to have good service, a good product, or be competitively priced. instead of "dog-eat-dog" with everybody scrambling for market share, SPECTRUM can be the company whose dog shits on your front lawn while they stroll by without even looking back. not sure why they bother saturating the airways with ads for being my mobile phone provider. these idiots can't even get cable and internet right. read more

This store deserves negative 5 stars: RUDE and unprofessional are mild to describe their aggressive behaviors. * A Sprectrum rep told me over the phone to go to the store if I had any issues with activating my phone. I read the terrible reviews and thought I'll just be very nice and all will be fine. I COULDN'T BE MORE WRONG!!!! When I came in first thing in the morning, no one else but ONE customer before me, and 2 reps and the manager visibly on the floor. The reddish long blond hair woman tried to send me away immediately after she found out that I had initiated to transfer my mobile phone service to Spectrum over the phone. The amount of time she spent to be refusal and obnoxious to me could have gotten my transaction completed. Her reason for not serving in a nasty tone was: "Million people go through here". Don't expect the Manager to be courteous either. While she was making excuses for her store's unprofessional conduct, I directed her attention to another customer being expressively angry at her staff's rudeness. This is the first bad review I have ever written. My experience with Spectrum was poor at best so I went back to Verizon. I was warned to keep my receipt when returning the equipment because several friends and family received bills afterward. This was my case as well. When I called to question why I still received a bill I was told that I didn't return all of the equipment. They said they only received three items. I told them that I am looking at my receipt showing that I returned 5 items! After being on the phone for over an hour they confirmed that they did and they will clear my account. Next Month I receive ANOTHER bill! Same thing on the phone forever with the same reason. Again I have to prove that I returned everything and to friggin close my account. The following month I receive an email saying that my statement is ready to be viewed. I call yet again. The operator says that he doesn't know why because he does show my account as being closed. Transfers me to billing where they reverse the charge. Today I get a bill from them for $122.97 that is on auto pay and it looks like they billed my card last month as well! I'm on the phone another hour. They disconnect a phone number they say is on my account that I don't even recognize . He gives me a confirmation number. Says it may be for an emergency number. Kind of like a 911. Which makes zero sense. Says he'll transfer me back to billing where they will clear up the charges. The guy in billing says that line was never disconnected. I'm trying to keep my cool while telling him that I transferred EVERY line back to Verizon. If someone on there end didn't do there job then that's on them. The bulk of this bill as you can see is for the internet which they were not providing for me for at least the last six months. I told him just wanted my card credited for services they weren't providing. He said he could not because that line was never disconnected. He kept talking over me. I finally said, "Just forget it!" And hung up my phone longing for the day when you could slam a phone down. I strongly recommend you look elsewhere for you internet and phone services. They were great while selling me on their bundle for my business needs. Horrible when trying to switch. I have spent so much time and money just trying to leave them. read more

Have been a spectrum customer since 2017 both internet and mobile. Walked into this store today to purchase another phone. The first person I encountered was a lady who yelled: "we'll be right with you, stand over there." There were only 3 other people in the store at the time and this was completely uncalled for. When a rep was finally available, his attitude was atrocious. He literally couldn't care less that I was a long time customer and wanted to purchase a new phone. He told me that because I wanted to buy a new phone, I needed to use Spectrum's online service. Huh? I went home and called the number he gave me. I was on hold for 2 hours with 3 different call attempts. I tried to use their call back service. When I was called back, the line dropped off as soon as there was a connection. I am in the process of canceling all spectrum services. Don't use this company no matter how good the deal may seem. read more

I received an email from Spectrum today stating that they are changing me to paperless billing effective next billing cycle. I did not ask for this change. I logged into my account and it still shows paperless turned off. I called Spectrum Billing. I told them about the email and that I did not want paperless and explained that my husband does not use computers so this would not work for us. Service stated there was nothing they could do, that I would have to remember to log in at a later date, after it automatically turned paperless on, and change it back to paper billing. I expressed my extreme dissatisfaction with this answer, but he just kept stating that there was nothing he could do and I would have to do it myself at a later date. NO COMPANY should try to force its customers into paperless billing. There are good reasons to continue it for some. read more

Topic: FEE INCREASES As a retired person who cannot afford ALL of the INCREASE of FEES, COSTS reflected on statements every few months, It's unbelievable and difficult for Retirees on a FIXED budget to afford, with living costs skyrocketing, and unable to afford groceries at times. This is insane! using Spectrum since 1988, when available, the company charges way too much, notoriously charging fee increases every few months, or by year. The purpose of this review is to complain and alert Spectrum, regarding the continuous fee increases and not supporting Spectrum increases. It's unfortunate, that the increases in all living costs, results in many people being cash poor, and with cash negative balances each month. Spectrum fees will only increase on a continual basis. I would not recommend Spectrum, unless you can afford their constant, frequent increase in costs. read more

These guys are so pathetic. We canceled their service because their service was sporadically going in and out. I tried to call these clowns to get a credit for the interrupt of service and they wouldn't give us any credit. We finally canceled their service and two months later they send us a bill for 79.95 for a whole month of service that we never even used. Spectrum is cheap. What a joke. Spectrum solicited me to bundle my Mobil with my home internet. I mistakenly did. It took 2 days and 6 hours to activate my first phone. I had a total of 4 to convert. The second was a chip replacement. It took 2 days and 4 hours of phone time for them to tell me we had a bad chip and they would send me another. At that time I said, no cancel the conversion and send me an RGA so I could return the 2 phones they had sent me. It is now 2 months later. I have spoken to no less than 8 different employees and they do not want the phones back because of 15 days policy, and the want to bill me for them. read more

I had Spectrum internet for years. Last week I Purchased two iPhones and started cell service with them. Apple had a buy back giving $100.00 per trade in phones. There was a sign on the outside window saying that but I did not see it. I had one of my old phones with me and brought back the other one a few days later to spectrum. The man who served me said it was too late for the hundred dollar rebate from Apple since I did not do it the same day I started and, bought the new phones. I feel it was spectrums store responsibility to let me know of this promotion and they failed to do that. The lady manager said I could turn in my newly bought iPhones but will charge me $50 each for a restocking fee. Very poor customers relations at the store. read more

I had no issues getting internet connectivity upon moving into my place in Carlsbad. I had a dedicated sales rep who was more than helpful. I was and still am honestly quite surprised as to how seamless this internet, modem, and accessories acquisition was upon arrival at the Avenida Encinas location. I am able to work out of my home with minimal service hiccups. I definitely appreciate the individual who was able to make this happen so easily. As far as the pricing goes, it is what it is and people shouldn't be surprised at this point in time. I don't feel as though I'm being taken advantage of by any means. read more

I've been Spectrum customer for a little over 4 1/2 years. I've had my ups and downs-with them I've had some technical issues, I've had some pricing challenges but at the end of the day they've always seem to come even and win me as a consumer. I've had AT&T recently offer me an amazing deal which to be honest is really strong except for the two-year contract commitment, so if you live in SEH hills and you're not looking to move in the next two years I would seriously look at that offer. Recently I called Spectrum to upgrade my Internet speed because I'm working from home and so is my little boy with school and gaming and so my internets been super slow. Long story short I had to talk to two people and I wasn't getting anywhere based on their policies and procedures as to charging me $49 upgrade fee even though I've been a customer for 4 1/2 years with the higher Internet speed package. So finally about 50 minutes on my phone call I was able to talk to a young lady an experience specialist and she was able to make a really frustrating situation a good thing. So I'm writing this to acknowledge the fact she did the right thing and I appreciate that. I understand these are really unique times I am not a big believer in that the customer is always right, which companies are hopefully embracing and acknowledging the people on the front lines as to making the magic happen. so good job Miss Spectrum team member for making a challenging situation much better:)..... It really put me off using Spectrum services having to interact with Drachan at their Avenida Encinas location in Carlsbad. He barely acknowledged me to ask my phone number and then asked for my i.d. whoch I didn't have on me, he said we couldn't move forward without my driver's license like he was speaking on auro pilot, he was physically present, but I may as well have been talking to a robot for the lack of humanity. Eventually he says that I wouldn't be asked my I.D. if the modem was being delivered to my home instead. I clarified again that I don't have my ID, I opted for picking up and installing the modem myself because I know how and it saves me money to do so. He again says he can't do anything with my driver's license, but eventually concedes that my passport would work or any other state issued I.D. At this point I'm in distress, I didn't know I needed this with me, I've had to already activate this service a second time because when I initially signed up, it was more than 30 days before my move-in date, apparently their policy is to cancel services if the modem isn't picked up before then. I had to explain to that person I spoke to about how impractical it was to expect me to just carry around a modem for 6 weeks before I was packed and moved into the home I'd be using it in. He at least spoke to me like one human being to another. Drachan today, didn't even make or attempt to make eye contact with me until I pointed out that he hadn't done so. I have a job and work as well, Drachan. I do not show up to work and expect a paycheck for doing the bare minimum service that a machine can do in my place. read more

This store location in particular is GREAT at losing returned equipment and sending out several hundred dollar bills to scam people into paying fees they aren't responsible for when their employees drop the ball. Then when you try to call in to speak with customer service or billing, they won't do anything to help or try to solve the issue, but instead type fake notes into your account, saying they attempted to contact you when they never do, and then send the bill to collections and ruin your credit history-- even though you are not responsible for the equipment THEY lost after YOU returned it. Absolute GARBAGE company, do yourself a favor and use literally any other internet/tv provider ever. read more

The touchscreen on my phone was frozen and I went to Spectrum hoping they could help me. The guy I talked to said there was nothing I could do, couldn't even retrieve the contact info to a new phone. To make matters worse, I couldn't even get the new phone until the next day. I got home and watched a short YouTube video about how to fix the frozen screen, followed the simple instructions and fixed the problem. called a representative to notify of our upcoming move in 12 days. i repeated x3 that we didn't want our service disconnected until the day of our move. after Hanging up, I discovered that we had no internet so the incompetent rep immediately cut us off. spent 2 hours on the phone with Spectrum trying to get reconnected, they couldn't do it So we had to schedule a technician to come out the next day. the tech got sidetracked while he was here working on some other issue & it took him 1 1/2 hours to get us back on line. Needed help with transferring an existing line to a new iPhone and was told they couldn't help me. Said I needed to call in to Spectrum and not walk in for help. I went in in the place as the phone help disconnected me after a half hour on hold. While I was there they told several others to call in for help, yet there were three employees standing around with no customers. I get they may not have the access they need, but this business model isn't working for me. You could see the employees were unhappy and frustrated at not being able to help despite having nothing to do. Leaving Spectrum Mobile and recommend you do the same. read more

The salesperson who has come to my door twice, and insists he has the right to solicit business door to door in my gated community/ where signage near entrance gates days say no soliciting makes me never want to deal with this company, This is the same guy who came before, though he denies it. He is unprofessional and argumentative and you have to walk away or he will keep trying to sell you. He said the only way to stop solicitation is if the homeowners association requests it. Honestly had a great experience in this store returning my router that was given to me by mistake during installation. The lady was even kind enough to refund me the $5/month charge that was on my bill and gave me a few extra cables I needed when I asked! As much as I hate telecom & internet service providers, I don't hate this store. What I could do without however are the CONSTANT phone calls and letters in the mail trying to get me to get cable. It's infuriating and I wish they would stop because it's almost daily at this point and it goes right in the garbage. I called Spectrum a week and a half ago to setup internet for a place I was moving to this weekend. After going over the details (including the address for service) the sales rep told me they would mail me a self install kit, and that's all I needed. I asked "you don't need to send a technician" and I was told no, all I would need was the self install kit. Fast forward to last night; after spending the entire day moving I open the install kit, connect the modem, and.... it's not working. I call technical support and she tries a few things, then looks up my address. "It looks like no one has ever had Spectrum at that address, we have to send out a technician to fix this." Okay, annoying, but hey I'm sure they can get a tech out by Monday to fix this, right? WRONG. Due to 'poor air quality' in California, Spectrum has suspended most of their technicians in the state. The earliest they can get a tech out is the following Saturday!? I called a week and a half ahead of time to get this setup; why on earth would the sales rep not check my address to confirm we wouldn't need a tech onsite? Why would Spectrum suspend most of their technicians, then keep them suspended when the air quality in San Diego county has been perfectly normal and safe for weeks? If this is done in the name of 'protecting their technicians,' then why are any techs working? It's safe for a small percentage to work but not the rest? I work from home right now due to COVID; this is a huge problem. I guess on the bright side I have a week to try and find another ISP and just cancel Spectrum due to to this train wreck of service I've been 'provided.' read more

I had a home in Claremont, CA, sold it, and purchased a home in Carlsbad, CA. I stopped my Spectrum internet/TV service in Claremont on October 8, 2022, but since my billing cycle begins on the 6th of each month, Spectrum charged me with an entire month's worth of service, even though I only received 2 days of service that month. Additionally, I have Spectrum in my new house in Carlsbad, so I paid for Spectrum internet/TV service at both locations for a month, even though I only received Spectrum internet/TV services at the Carlsbad house. If you cancel their lousy service even one day into the billing cycle, they charge you for the entire month. The rate you sign up for is not the rate you'll be paying. Without notice, they raise your subscription price. Mine went up by 33%. Outrageous. It took me a half hour on the phone to cancel. Their internet drops all the time. I have been with Carlsbad cable f​or 30 years... Same account number through 4 different companies... The last few years with Spectrum my bill for my Cable package & WIFI has been $247.00. I've tryed to have it it reduced by phone with no luck... Today I moved & took my equipment in to close out my account... As I pulled up I remembered having an unpleasant visit before at this store... Well, they didn't disappoint today either... I put my bags down & told them what I was there for & the guy rudely tells me to take the equipment out of the bag & put it on his small counter... I unloaded & he takes the cords & remote controls & throws them behind him & said one cord was not Thiers & threw it towards me!... The transaction didn't get any better... All the money & loyalty to this company netted me nothing but rudeness... I am so glad to be done with them. read more
