This company overcharges for mediocre home internet. They have terrible customer service.

If I could give this review zero stars I would, but I'm only giving it five so that way people can see this comment Viasat Internet is atrocious! First they give me a busted modem, then they gave us another one, but still doesn't work properly because it continuously says Wi-Fi connected no Internet for over two months. And even after we explained the issues they gave us no other alternative besides to get the "better deal "and be charged basically 200 for barely any type of real Internet. So we decided to disconnect And then after they gave us the option to pay off the uninstall fee/months unused fee little by little , they didn't properly communicate to each other and another person overcharged my account and we're still having to deal with that. If you sign up for Viasat be prepared to pay much more than any other provider. The cost are very expensive and the service I had was VERY SLOW. When I cancelled their service and switched to a lower carrier they refused to refund the pro-rated amount I had paid them for the month, because they said regardless of when you cancel they will keep the full month you have paid for already! Even if the equipment has been removed! You cannot even return their equipment until they send you the shipping label which will only be sent after the end of the cancelled month. I guess preventing the customer any recourse because you cannot return the equipment so they feel it clears them of any legal action. HORRIBLE do not subscribe and use Viasat! read more

I was a VIASAT customer for 10 months. It was the satellite service in the home when I purchased the home. No phone service. No cell service. No OTHER internet service. Basically I was stuck at that moment to use them. The TV connectivity was ok for Netflix and Prime which is all I used. Youtube etc. I was able to use my cell phone connected to wifi sparingly. I could hear the caller, BUT my side of the call was fragmented ALWAYS. DROPPED CALLS WAS A CONSTANT. Almost never able to complete a call. This meant I had to drive 20 minutes to town to make business phone calls and even personal phone calls. (social life became non existent) I was unable to do any video conferencing, video meetings. Again, I could see and hear them fine, BUT my side of the call was worthless. AND most of the time I had to turn my video off and I could not participate with speaking at all. FINALLY THE STRAW THAT BROKE ME. I went to cancel my service AFTER GETTING ANOTHER SATELLITE SERVICE INSTALLED. I was able to make A CONNECTED PHONE CALL AND CALL VIASAT TO CANCEL Yay me!!!!! So I tried to cancel. They first asked me why I was disconnecting I went over all the reasons. I did not even tell them the countless days if there was even a cloud in the sky for a storm, which did not impact me, jus the clouds and how I would have no service - I expected that. But now they offer me discounted service for a year at $30 less per month to keep the system as a back up. REALLY?!?! Now let me add my service was supposed to have been around $120 total all in with taxes and everything I was receiving a deduction on my credit card of $147 a month. I never complained about that even. But I said NO. I did not want to keep them as a back up. Then they read the disclaimers for disconnect. I had to have the equipment returned with 30 days of the disconnect which was not today September 19, 2025 but it would be the last day of my payment October 6, 2025 and they would disconnect October 7, 2025 and send the box to return the equipment out after that point. So it was 30 days beginning October 7, 2025. Now I was going to be out of town, out of the country from October 15 - December 15 and informed them of that. They said we'll have a friend do it. Pack it up and return it. Umm What if the box doesn't get here. Can you please just put it in the mail and have it delivered? NO, THAT IS NOT OUR POLICY. WE CAN'T DO IT TILL AFTER YOUR DISCONNECT. And if it doesn't get here in time? Well you will be charged for internet service for 120 days and the equipment for $348 plus fees. What fees? Well that depends on when we receive the equipment back. Geesh. So I said well I'm going to call my credit card and tell them not to put any more charges from you on my card. They said they can remove my card from the account, because they had already told me the charges would be placed on my credit card on file. BUT... WITHOUT A CREDIT CARD ON FILE THEY WOULD INVOICE ME AND IF I DIDNT PAY IT. THE BILL WILL OBVIOUSLY GO TO COLLECTIONS. WTH???? I haven't had a collections on my record since 2003 and that was a mistake. These people are unprofessional at best. The service is lousy. The customer service is non-supportive. I called in twice when I first moved into the house and asked questions about the service and they were non-responsive. They acted like I had been in the house since the beginning and not a new customer. They offered no support and no assistance and I was willing to pay for a house support call and could not even get that. It was ridiculous. This whole disconnect process has left me in absolute shock. AND IF ALL OF THIS IS NOT ENOUGH..... BE PREPARED.... THEY KNOW HOW BAD THEIR SERVICE IS BECAUSE .... AT THE BEGINNING OF THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE MESSAGE IT STATES SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF .... THEIR PRERECORDED MESSAGE.... Horrible. Absolutely horrible. Visited a relative that lives in a rural area of Florida. Their only option for internet service is via satellite. Viasat had the "best" rating of the options available, but if this is the best, I fear to see what is the worst. Signal drops constantly. Connections are slow and poor. Data is capped at a ridiculously low rate. I ended up resorting to attempting to connect to a cell tower while standing outside using my phone rather than connect via wifi using my laptop (which is really bizarre, considering not everything can be done with apps on a mobile phone). Streaming television was so frustrating, as reception would intermittently buffer and you'd watch the "spinning wheel" of anticipation and eventually frustration. Yikes! If this is the "best" that's available, I'd actually resort back to dial-up with a 2400 baud modem, because that at least received a signal consistently. read more

Devices and service work spotty AT BEST. The transponder (outdoor part that transmits signal from satellite in center of dish) is NOT weather resistant (although it's got outside!?) and will go out often. The modem indoors is outdated and also often goes out. We pay about $150 a month for 60gigs, let me say this: NOT WORTH IT! I'd rather not have internet than use this company. Viastat has MINIMAL technicians that work for them in my area and when I have called for customer service, it's a long wait and they will want to change your mind about what service you want or if you'd like to change it or cancel it. Believe the terrible reviews/ratings... While the service was as expected (not great, but had little options), to get out of the service is where the nightmare began for me. I've been trying to return their equipment for FOUR months with no progress. They are now sending letters threatening collection and to charge me $300 for the equipment even though for four months they have been supposedly "sending me a box". I call every week and beg and plead... the first 4 boxes went to an incomplete address (if they went at all) even though I corrected the address over and over and now they say they will send a box and never do. If I could give them zero starts I would. If you don't have a lot of options, go with T-Mobile or some other wireless provider. They are much faster, much better customer service, and Viasat deserves to burn in hell. All of their executives and managers and people that write their policies and sales tactics deserve to lose their jobs and beg on the street. They are not much better than thieves. My experience takes far too long to write or even to read, as this experience was the biggest waste of my time and money and spanned over days. My experience was not a "one off". My experience was because of how they have structured their business. The sales people will lie to you and tell you whatever they need to to get you to trial it out. Afterall, a trial won't hurt and you are probably desparate to try anything if you are looking into Viasat. The thing is, there are no trials with Viasat. If you try it, you will be billed automatically for 30 days regardless of whether they delivered you a usable service. The staff will give you the most stubborn run around trying to cancel. They are trained to apologize, but do absolutely nothing to accomodate you. You will waste your time. If you're reading this, don't learn the hard way. Viasat can go kiss my grits. I'm pretty sure the terrible signal and service I had in the air on American Airlines this past week was due to Viasat. Don't you just love their massive headquarters and high paid employees but terrible product and service? I paid a whopping $25 for 4.5 hours of service(flight time). They then went and UPSOLD me to their sales team. I tried it for 24 hours and it was STILL way worse than the T-Mobile 5G devise I got to replace Viasat. So I called to cancel it. They told me my $170 payment had already been posted for the month. I asked for a pro-rated refund of 29 days (FARI!!) I am in agreement with all the other negative reviews. Viasat is Very Shi**y. I lost service so many times and each time had to spend eternity on the phone with someone with a heavy accent I couldn't understand. Last rep tried like two minutes and then just said they'll send a tech out. Called again and that rep resolved it. I just tried to cancel my service. I was on the phone over an hour. I wanted it cancelled immediately. Got nowhere. Just continued reading a prepared script telling me I can't do that because my call was on an 'automated' line. WTF? Then I was told I can't cancel until the end of nest billing cycle which is 28 days away. Oh, also, I've been without service for 7 days. Tech was supposed to be here yesterday but cancelled because IT WAS TOO COLD!!!! I'm 65, took a half day off work to be there for the tech and get this: I went to work later that day. My job is outside in the cold. I could do it but some young tech couldn't. The bottom line is there is nothing but FRUSTRATION in dealing with Viasat. I recently signed up with Starlink and am happy with my new service. When I called to cancel with Viasat, their customer retention representative offered to reduce my rate from $170 to $40/month and increase my high speed Gigabytes from 100 to 300 per month. This offer was appreciated, but came too late. A few months earlier, I asked if they would reduce my rate in order to retain my business. The answer was no. As soon as they left the service was very bad after call customer service I decided to cancel my service. I signed up for Viasat for my first internet in a rural area. Starlink was on backorder during Covid, and after waiting for 4 months, I found Viasat. The price was ridiculous for the amount of data offered. They also make you sign a 3 year contract. $150 for 100GB of data and $213.52 for 150GB of data. The average family uses 700GB, so the amount they limited you to is ridiculously low. So low, that we never shared our WIFI with visitors and didn't even bother using WIFI with our own phones. Still, even though we rationed our data like it was gold, we still ran out every month. We complained and complained and it fell on deaf ears. 6 months after my contract was completed, we checked on Starlink again. It was available and we ordered it and were now getting UMLIMITED DATA for $120. I was paying the $213.52 for 150GB and when I called to cancel, they tried to keep me as a customer by offering me 850GB for $120. I asked when that promotion started, and it had been 4 months before my cancellation date. That made me even madder. On the day I actually cancelled my plan with them, it was 4 days into the new billing cycle. I warned them not to charge me since I was already hooked up to Starlink and wasn't using their crap service anymore, and if they did charge me, I would do reviews about their crappy service wherever I could. Here I am. Anyway, they charged me. I disputed the charge through my credit card company. Viasat was able to show them the contract and I had to pay the money. So I did. However, a month later, my credit card company submitted a second request for a refund (without my knowledge) and this time Viasat forgave the debt and deposited the money back in my account. But, that was long after I had already started writing 100% truthful reviews about their services, and I think maybe they saw one of them, because out of the blue, they took "takebacksies" on their forgiveness. They re-charged me for that month and have now sent that debt to collection. Apparently they need $213.52 more than me, but I'm still putting up the good fight with the debt collector. You do not want anything to do with this company. I can promise you that. Service is spotty, buffering is the main feature on your tv, and if your data runs out, you basically get nothing unless you want to pay for more data. Absolute joke of a company, A dinosaur on its way out. If I can one person to cancel their service with them, it might not make up for the $213.52 I still stand to lose in a courtroom, but I'll know they didn't win against me. I called on 12/13/21 to set up internet service. Their technician came the next day. I was clear with the representative that I needed internet to work from home including Zoom calls. The upload bandwidth was terrible and unusable for this purpose. I cancelled service on 12/21/21. Of course, it's such a crappy business that they are going to hold me to a 24 month commitment and charge me $119 for a week of crappy service plus $15 for each of the remaining 23 months on my contract. You will deal with people who are not helpful, aren't accountable and add value added services to customers accounts (example: "Easy Care") when they decline. This is theft by deception and I encourage you to review your ViaSat Satellite invoice to ensure you're not being charged for a service you never agreed to. If you find you have a charge, you can contact me, I am speaking with an attorney about a class action settlement with this company. Many of my neighbors have discovered similar over Billings for this service as well, so this is not an isolated incident. Alternatively, you can contact ViaSat directly and insist that they remove any charges that you've ever paid for for a service you never agreed to or requested. If the representative refuses to help direct them to this review so that they can see there's at least one other person on the Internet right now that saying they were doing the same thing or just contact the office of the president through LinkedIn because that worked for me Hard pass on ViaSat satellite Internet services. I could go on to tell you that on the date of the install they showed up eight hours late costing me a half day of work, didn't bother to call me to give me a heads up, that instead of coming at 8 AM they came at 5 PM, I can tell you that the installer showed up to my house dressed in flip-flops, covered in head to toe with tattoos, engaged in a personal cell phone conversation during the entirety of his time at my home using obscenities in front of me my wife and my son, and, ultimately, when he was finished with the installation, he came in to my home while still engaged on a personal cell phone conversation on his AirPods to have me sign off on his digital iPad for the completion of the installation completion. When I began to ask some questions about the data threshold being a new customer wanting some clarification on their policies, he very clearly visually indicated that he was on the phone and told me that the Internet services should be up and running within 5 or 10 minutes and left You read that right he actually left before he even made sure it was up and running and while it did get up and running in five or 10 minutes, it was insanely unprofessional for ViaSats installer to show up to my home covered in tattoos, in flip-flops on the cell phone, he wasn't even in a good mood acted like he didn't want to be at work, showed up a full eight hours late and then to add insult to injury, not only did he leave litterS" scattered throughout my yard from the remnants of his installation pieces like plastic bags zip ties and screws, he damaged both 4 sq. ft.of grass and vinyl siding from my home. If you do sign up with them make sure that they understand that you don't want their maintenance program which is just a scam and review your invoice every month to ensure it doesn't sneak on three "accidentally" and record every interaction because this company has no integrity whatsoever and will fail to keep any commitment it makes to you in anyway, whatsoever. Or, if you like inviting guests to your home that literally shit on your lawn, give ViaSat a try! PS, their internet speeds were pretty sad but ironically it's the issues stemming from the installation and the handling or lack thereof that make me feel the way I do about this company. Watch out for the 24 month contract that you are locked into and the $15 per remaining month cancellation fee, and subsequent slow speeds. There is no trial period, so if your Viasat service can't handle zoom meetings or stream television, you're out of luck, you're locked in. All you can do is pay for a higher service, which we had the second highest service tier, nd all Viasats plans have upload speeds of 3 MBPS, which is used for Zoom any way. Viasat is the true better-then-nothing option for rural users. Beyond that, expect only basic performance with near-useless bandwidth on the up-stream side. My home security cameras were barely viewable, with near slide-show or total freeze frame rates. Also, Viasat is predatory in their contract practices. To "try" their service you have to buy into a 2-year contract. Also, they only accept auto-pay account arrangements. In my case, I terminated my service when finally getting Comcast to my home. Viasat took almost 2 months to send me a "return equipment" box and included the requirement that I go up on the roof and retrieve their microwave scoop off the dish!! Despite my same-day return (once I got my box) they charged me more money without explanation or permission a few days later. When the card was declined (I blocked it after closing the service) they immediately put me in collections! Summary: Pros: Better the Hughes-net satellite. Good basic internet for web browsing and E-mail Passable downstream video streaming with occasional buffering on 720p or better, even on their "best" plan. Cons: Useless upload bandwidth video for security cameras, Skype, Zoom, VOIP, or any 2-way real-time streaming. Outages a couple times a year when they reset their Satellite "cells" to sync with your dish location. Gaming? Forget it. Ping averages 690ms... You're dead before you even see the monster come into the room! Predatory billing practices. Even if you pay in full upon termination, they can bill you again for any reason. read more

First, it's overpriced Second, it was continually dropping and was very weak. It was never in the range I was paying for, never! I called them for help several times, they came out once to "fix" it, it was never fixed. Within the first two weeks I wanted to cancel my account, it cost me $200 in closing account fee, plus I had to pay $150 for the entire month of "service", in which I was never getting what I paid for. Liars and cheats!!! I am almost 80 years old and they wanted me to climb on the roof & get a part. Not gonna happen and they said don't worry about it. I sent inside unit in a box they sent. Then they took out almost $200 out of my account (4 months later) for unit on roof!!! My son took it down and returned. I have a receipt it was picked up. DO NOT WORK WITH THEM!! The internet service is incredibly slow on the best of circumstances like so slow it barely will send an e-mail to multiple addresses slow. The whole premise of their "service" is a scam to attempt to juice you for more money by selling more data. They sell data plans that under normal use you will quickly run out of, like a few movies will run you out of data. They then will slow it down to a virtual standstill unless you buy more, and buy more and buy more. I was paying $150 a month and still running out of data half way through the month or way sooner and then all at a standstill. The worst and fraudulent last thing they did was attempt to charge me a $300 fee for not returning my equipment. I would have been charged had I not spent multiple hours on the phone, had my UPS tracking number and not followed up. Even after they verified I returned the equipment and I had a confirmation number verifying this they STILL REFERRED ME TO A COLLECTION AGENCY!!! This is fraud and an illegal attempt to collect a debt that they do not have a rite to collect because my account was at a $0 balance. They still sent it on to collect $300 from me. After repeated calls to them again they still would not call off the collection agency attack dogs for 5 or more days. No only is the service HORRIBLE, the company is super shady like shady to the extent of being illegal and fraudulent. They misrepresent their service and you will NOT be happy with anything about them. Do NOT work with them under any circumstances. Getting rid of them and finally verifying their collection agency attack dogs had been called off was super relieving and a big weight off of me. Internet was the worst We've EVER had . Slower than molasses . Land line sounded like we were in the middle of an ocean with a hurricane there was so much static . Ordered a technician to come out TWICE and they MISSED both appointment . Then we switched companies and they tried to charge us for 24 month of the remaining contract ! Even though they failed to show twice , and we had the service for only 2 weeks . We've now been on hold for 45 min waiting for a supervisor . Unbelievable . read more
