While the doctors here are excellent, my experience with the front desk was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I mistakenly went to the wrong location and had to drive to the Oak Meadow office. I called ahead to explain the situation, and the front desk staff informed me there was a 10-minute grace period and encouraged me to try to make it in time. I arrived right at the 10-minute mark (at most 1 minute past), only to be told that I needed to reschedule my appointment. What made this especially frustrating was the lack of basic courtesy and consistency. I had already called to inform them I would be late, yet instead of clearly telling me then that I would need to reschedule, they asked me to come anyway--only to turn me away upon arrival. When I politely requested if they could still accommodate me since I was already there, the request was dismissed rather abruptly. This experience felt unnecessarily rigid and inconsiderate. A little flexibility or clearer communication upfront would have gone a long way and saved me a wasted trip. read more

I was referred here by my primary physician to remove a couple growths around my eye. I got an appointment with dr. El-Sawy an ocular plastic surgeon. And it was a great experience, first off the location is super cute nestled in the trees and easy to get to. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming. My doctor was great very nice and knowledgeable, granted it was a fairly straightforward procedure. I was seen on time and he was very clear in walking me through the process, the procedure was quick and painless. And I healed up perfectly in about a week. I had such a pleasant experience I also booked an eye exam which candidly I haven't had one in decades so I was WAY over due! Dr. Lee was great at doing the exam and talking through any concerns and his recommendations. I then meet with Maggie who was helpful at picking out the right pair of glasses and understanding my vision insurance. All and all I really enjoyed my experience. Everyone was knowledgeable, nice and welcoming. I'll be coming back next year for eye exam. read more

I've been coming to this office for decades. And I was glad when Dr. Basham signed up with Spectrum. I can get an appointment very easily, and have seen Dr. El Sawy (who has a similar sense of humor, thank goodness). I feel confident that they can handle any eye problems that pop up. The doctors and techs listen and spend time thoughtfully answering questions. That being said, it's normal for them to run a bit late. That's why I try to get the first appointment. But Dr. Basham's father was that way, and I remember how nice it is to have someone who listens. There have been some odd glitches over the years (one year, as I left, they didn't make an appointment for the next year. I make sure I have the appointment before I leave) Things can get chaotic with waiting to see Maggie about glasses and contacts. Go in on Thursday. No doctors are in the office, so you can talk at length. At the end of the day, I come back because I believe in the skills of the doctors to proactively help me take good care of my eyes. read more

This place has been fine for me to use as my eye doctor for the last two years. They are courteous and move you right along once you are taken. I took off a star for the wait time. Last time I was there, i waited 45 minutes past my appt to be seen, and this time it was 30 minutes. No one checks in to let you know it may be a wait, and no one apologized for the wait. It's just a little frustrating and disrespectful to one's time. Other than that, the office is pleasant and clean. A bit hot because of all of the windows. Dr Basham and his assistants are very nice and thorough. I wish that the appointments weren't all broken up into multiple visits but i get that it would take a long time otherwise. read more

I do not recommend them. An employee working on insurance approval finally called me to tell insurance was approved. I called the following day informing me that employee had quit. The new rep said they had no record of my insurance request yet I knew they had my file there. She had a bad attitude giving me excuse and after more excuses I instructed her to check her pc, the details need to be there. I asked them to call the employee who quit for further details. She ignored my requests. The rep seemed more concerned over giving me fake excuses rather than looking into the matter. I finally asked to speak to the doctor or another employee and was refused. She stated she didn't like my attitude and to call back later with a better attitude. She hung-up me. They dropped the ball and then tried to blame me. So typical of unprofessional business. I later learned they don't take my insurance but they strung me out instead. Don't expect ANY apology from this company. The office staff needs an attitude adjustment. read more

My wife and I have been going to Dr. Bashim (both his father and now his son) for many years. Every year his office calls to move our annually scheduled appointment. His office is very unorganized and staff are rude. He does not seem to care about the health of his patients. His office just called to say he has decided to take less patients, so our October appointments for our annual eye tests have to be moved till (maybe) next March or April. No other reason was given. If you are an existing patient or looking for an Ophthalmologist you can count on, I would highly recommend you find an Ophthalmologist you can actually count on. That is NOT Dr. Bashim! read more

Poor communication, Lack of coordination between doctors and office staff, Unjustified behavior from a doctor, and unproductive appointments. My whole family has been a patient of Dr. Lee for the last few years. I had no negative comments about the doctor and the staff until last month. I had an extremely disappointing experience with Dr. Lee, and it has made me question the necessity of yesterday's appointment and whether it was scheduled just to claim insurance money. While follow-up visits are crucial, they should be medically justified and clearly communicated to the patient, which was not the case here. Phone calls went unanswered, and critical updates were often delayed or overlooked. While I am okay with receiving responses via text, I am concerned that staff may have misrepresented the issue when forwarding messages to the doctor. If the doctor is not prepared to listen to a patient's vision problems, then I believe this demonstrates a significant lack of patient care, which is unacceptable. read more

I was having an eye emergency and they scheduled me in. Thank goodness 4 stars Doctor was running late or so I thought, I was seen by the tech prior to seeing the doctor after waiting in the waiting room 20 minutes past my appointment. This =3 stars I inquired after a certain amount of time in the exam room if the doctor was going to see me anytime soon because I needed to leave. The technician informed me that they were doing me a favor by seeing me and I said I had no idea that they were doing me a favor because I thought I had scheduled an appointment. Two stars The doctor shortly came in and basically give me a different option than another doctor so it was good second opinion and that gets one star. I needed to update my glasses so I made an appointment. Or so I thought, I was running late for this appointment, which I felt very bad about and then it turns out I was scheduled with the wrong doctor. I was then was told that they can do me the favor, checking my eyesight, but I would have to pay them a fee that was not reimbursable by my insurance, why would I do this? Minus 1 Star. Again they're doing me a favor and I was told several times I should have made an appointment for the Optometrist, I explained, I do not work behind the front desk. I did not schedule the appointment with this doctor. I scheduled an appointment to get glasses, I wouldn't know who the doctor is for that. I literally had to explain this three times. I had put off getting my eyes checked for about a decade, but finally bit the bullet - the last time I saw Dr Liu on Samaritan Drive at Spectrum but this time I saw Dr Robert Lee on Oak Meadow Dr. What a pleasant experience! Extremely helpful and pleasant receptionist (gave me directions when I got lost) and Dr Lee was wonderful! Informative, reassuring and unhurried in his explanations. I feel so much better after seeing him and now I know how to deal with my dry eyes. I would highly recommend this office and especially Dr Lee. read more

Have been trying to work with this clinic for the past year but am finally going to give up and find an ophthalmologist else where. In the beginning of the year, I had to reschedule my eye exam 3-4 times due to complications with the doctor calling in sick etc. and in one instance the doctor was detained?? This pushed my exam back several months. After my exam I was supposed to get a simple procedure done but they had to wait for insurance to approve of it. After 5 months of waiting and calling several times for a status check in, I have been left in silence and promises of a follow up email/call never came. The staff and doctors are nice, however they are too unreliable. My guess is that they like to prioritize some of their patients over others. Dr. Ryan Basham was referred to me by my retinal specialist. He did not take adequate care in checking my eyes or consulting with previous doctors before recommending a multifocal lens for my cataracts at an extra cost of $3000 per eye. I was so excited to have no glasses or contacts, but vision was blurry after the surgery. He finally checked my eye more carefully and said he shouldn't have recommended that lens due to retinal issues. He scheduled another surgery 3 1/2 weeks later at my cost to remove the permanent multifocal lens and install another lens. My vision remains blurred with now extremely high astigmatism and I am told I will need medically necessary contacts the rest of my life, with glasses unable to adequately correct my vision. He offered no concern or help, but just said he did a great job inserting both lenses in my eye. read more

Went in for an appointment and was scheduled for the wrong date since the surgeon is only in the office Tuesdays. While I was waiting, someone came out and told me that I had to sign consent forms since I was having a minor procedure and I confirmed with him, since I was supposed to get an eyelid mole removed. I never received those consent forms and they took me in and treated it as a regular monitoring appointment as if I would not have not noticed that I didn't have my eye mole removed. When I was seen by Dr. Ryan Basham, he took measurements of my mole and mentioned we would continue to monitor it. He didn't mention that there was a mistake in scheduling. When I mentioned this appointment was to get the mole removed, he was very defensive and rude. He took me to the front to schedule the appointment with the surgeon, and told the receptionist that there was a mistake in scheduling. Not sure where to start. Lets start with good one. We have been going to Dr Nguyen at Spectrum Cupertino for last 3-4 years and have been committed to this clinic. Have all good things to say there, great staff, great doctors, quick responses. Now the location at Los Gatos is whole different story. We saw doc at Oak Meadow location for my twin daughterss contact lens appointment as Cupertino location didn't had the appointment date we were looking for. Considering its the same clinic, we opted to go to another location. This was back in Dec. Ever since for last 3-4 months, even after numerous follow-ups over emails and calls, so far we've NOT been able to get hold of the contacts we ordered for our daughter. I haven't experienced this kind of customer service in my last 21 years in US. Its a nightmare dealing with the staff there, there is either no response and even if you get hold of someone trying multiple times, they would have no clue and just make false promises of looking into it and updating you back which never happens. The pain is that we utilized the insurance covered visit for last year and I am now completely lost of how to move forward to get contacts for my daughter. I even got to a point where I asked them to just give me contact prescription so that I can get it out of my pocket from Costco or somewhere else but even to that there hasn't been no update in last 15 days. I don't even feel like giving a single star, the experience has been so horrible. Please do not go there and save yourself pain to deal with such inefficient staff. read more

I have been going to Dr. Basham since his father was the only one in the office. I liked his son Ryan a lot until an unfortunate set of circumstances happened with my cataract surgery. I wanted speciality lenses so I wouldn't have to wear glasses. They were quoted as being $1100 each. He said these were the ones he would give his Mom if she was getting them. While I'm not rich I had saved up to get this done. The first eye surgery went well but the second eye did not fair so well. I couldn't see out of the second eye very well. He said he didn't know why, give it time. I did wait & asked to have another lens put in. He suggested another lens too try. He said he didn't charge medicare for the 3rd surgery but he did. He said I wouldn't have to pay for a third lens since I was only getting two lenses but after much back & forth with him & the Los Gatos Surgery Center that charges for the lenses. They wouldn't refund my money for the lens used in the second surgery. Come to find out when he put in the second lens in he put it in too deep which caused the problem in the first place. You would think rather than get this info. posted they would refund $1100. Dr. Basham was rude & belligerent with me the last conversation we had. My second eye sight is ok but not great like I had anticipated. To give Dr. Basham his due, he did try to fix it but I think he felt I was ungrateful after having gone thru an extra surgery & cost of an unusable lens. read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Ryan Basham and before that his father Art Basham since the 80s. Both are excellent opthomologists and very kind and caring men. I have seen various iterations in the same office as far as staff is concerned and I have found them all to be both competent and compassionate. Nothing in my regard has changed since Dr. Basham joined Spectrum. I have extreme myopia and am not an easy case. Through the care of the Bashams I have been able to keep my vision and do all my normal activities. read more

I was very impressed with the facility and the staff. It was my first time at Oak Meadow in Los Gatos, and I was a bit nervous. Deisy and Oliva eased my nerves the moment I walked in. They were really kind and friendly and made me feel welcome and at-home. They are extremely professional and clearly love what they do! I highly recommend Dr. El Sawy. You want to make sure you choose an experienced specialist you can trust when it comes to Botox. Every step of the way, he made sure I was OK and explained each step during the procedure. He knows what he is doing, he is highly skilled, and I love the results. I would definitely return for future treatments! I left feeling good and confident! read more
