Found this doctor through my insurance and decided to give him a try. First appmt, I literally saw him for about 8 mins. and was not really able to ask questions. He flew out of the room before I could. I was then scheduled to return a couple weeks later for a procedure. The office has many cubicles but definitely not much seating in waiting room. Patients just poured in while I waited in lobby and each one was taken in to a cubicle. There's only 1 doctor, but it seems he's hell bent on getting in as many patients without concern for keeping them waiting. It felt like a 3 ring circus, and it seems very unprofessional how it is run, besides the front desk isn't exactly friendly and polite. I have never had an experience like this. This place isn't a good vibe at all. I got up and left and had no procedure done at all. Don't go here, you will be treated rudely and poorly. Stay away and find a better doctor. I had my cataracts done by Dr Sayed - although he might appear in a rush, my experience is quite different. His staff are wonderful and he himself is great. My regular ophthalmologist stated the lens were placed correctly and precisely by Dr Sayed. To save me from the hassle of remembering when to use my eye drops pre- surgery i opted to get the three in one drop which lasted me from pre to post surgery and it was easier to use - the downside of the eye drop is it expensive. The upside? I don't need to bring three kinds of eye drops and wait at least 10 minutes in between drops especially if you're on the field and working long hours. It was worth every penny read more

Extremely unprofessional and impatient. This joker has the biggest attitude and shows no compassion towards patients. It seems like everything is about money. My suggestion is if you're in a shitty mood take the day off and reconsider your behavior before facing patients. He has no patience for questions and if you want to get into your medical history regarding the health of your eye, he gets irritated and will literally yell at you. My appointment was at 12:30 pm. They sat ne down in one of his stations and now is 1:05 pm and he is not showing up. When I asked them why they said you could wait up to one hour . There is is no patient in the lobby and I'm not sure what's going on. They don't even say we are sorry and totally ignoring me. I've been here a few times in the past and was happy with them. This time my experience is so bad...... I'm thinking of changing my doctor!!!!!! It is now 1:15 pm. Doctor came in and apologised and said that he had to talk to 2 doctors... I told him that his staff should have said we are sorry and just a line of communication could have been very helpful. Dr. Jovkar has been my Ophthalmology since 2021. Over the years I've notice his staff personnel was continuously changing. I July 2023, I called to make a follow up appointment only to be handled off several times to different staff members. I had to repeat my reason for the appointment several times. The reason; when conducting my eye exam in late June of 2024 for glasses, he didn't allow me the proper amount of time to discern from the adjustments he was making with the lens equipment. I voiced this concern with the last person I spoke to when making this appointment, indicating this issue with my previous exam by Dr. Jovark. Therefore, I call in early July to request another eye exam to ensure the prescription was correct. After meeting with Dr. Jovkar, he started to berate me in front of one of his staff members about my conversation the last person I spoke to about my foregone concern. I found this to be exteremly unprofessional of him. He went as far as to tell me how difficult it was to run his business & find good people. He tried to make me feel bad, however I took the high road & just listen to him about his personnel problems. I felt like he was looking for an apology from me, but based on his behavior & how he handled the matter, I consciously decided not to allow him to control the narrative. As a result, he decide not send me a reminder notice for my one-year check-up exam in July 2025. Similar experience as MO R. in March. I am a new patient and only seeing the doctor for the 3rd time. I've been here a few times in the past and they kept to schedule. However, this time my experience was very bad...... My appointment was at 11:30 pm. I sat in 2 different rooms for 30 minutes each while I watched other patients, who were seated in adjacent rooms, get their time with the doctor before me. I don't think their patient sequencing is working very well. I eventually stepped into the empty hallway and asked one of the staff to have the doctor see me ASAP as I had another appointment to get to. I found this doctor from Zocdoc. I booked an appointment for my son by selecting one of the open slots offered by Zocdoc. Later, my son received a call from the doctor's office that the appointment through the Zocdoc was actually not available. He made another appointment. Later again, the office called and told him that the insurance did not cover him. I checked my insurance website and found Dr. Jovkar listed as In-Network doctor. Dr. Jovkar is obviously not the only or last doctor in the San Jose area. I am really doubt his professional ethics and will not consider him for any treatment plans. read more

I took my 93 year old mother today for her first visit to Dr. Jovkar. First we had to wait almost 40 minutes past out appointment time. I can kinda forgive that, however, things went even further down hill from there. Dr. Jovkar had no interest in listening to a woman ask him questions! He became irritated and even hostile! Terrible . Incompetent office and doctor . Do not go . Find a better ophthalmologist, can't measure optic nerve pressure . Any competent ophthalmologist can do procedure , even most primary care physicians can . Absolutely ridiculous . A waste of time scheduling appt that they ended up canceling after insurance approved . After reading all of the negative reviews I am glad my appt was cancelled . Seems he is not qualified , or competent in his skills as an ophthalmologist, do your self a favor and don't waste your time just to have your appt cancelled and for them to refer you some where else , IE : Stanford . Drove an hour and a half today (one way) for an appointment for my husband and I, after confirming on Monday that the insurance was all set. Stay away from doctor Sayed Jovkar. Don't get fooled by his degrees and licenses all over the walls in his office. He just thinks about the money and the patients are just a source of money making. He was recommend by a friend. I went to him for just a simple yearly eye exam. After checking my eyes he said: you have a birth defect in your right eye. I told him this is not a birth defect. When I was child, my baseball rolled under the rose bushes. When I was trying to get the ball a torn got in my eye and damaged it and since then I have a foggy eye on that eye. He examined the eye gain and he said: "with a simple surgery you can get 20/20 vision". I told him I have seen many eye doctors since then and all of them told me the eye is damaged and sugary doesn't do anything. After many explanation he convinced me that they were wrong and it can be fixed. I gave up and two weeks later went for sugary in a hospital. Make it short, the eye just didn't improve at all, it had a side effect after the sugary. Every time, I took a hot shower my eye was twitching. When I told him he said: your body needs to be adjusted to that. Month later I told him my vision is also not better. He said: it is much better than before sugary. I got mad and I told him the eye is mine or yours. I know that nothing has been changed except has a twitching side effect. I left his office angry and never went back to him. The good thing the side effect is gone after years but my vision has never got better. Just FYI. My insurance was billed 15k at that time read more

I have been going to this doctor for the last 20 years. Last time I went to him, he refused to complete my visit by giving me a new prescription which ended up wrong anyway . He claimed that he lost $600 due to his own employee's mistake 2 years ago. In the meantime I have been going to a chiropractor for the last 2 years suffering from neck ache because of the unfit glasses. Does he want to know how much money I have lost seeking help? I cannot believe that my husband's and my long term opthomologist, Dr John Winston Duggan, retired and entrusted us and his other patients to Dr. Sayed Jovkar!! I arrived on time for my first appointment, filled out some paperwork, and awaited my turn. The clerical staff was friendly and courteous. After I was escorted into the examination room, an assistant came in to obtain my information. She was also very pleasant and efficient. Finally, the doctor came in and introduced himself. He appeared rushed, irritable, and impatient. He was very aloof, terse, dictatorial, I and patronizing. As the examination began, he seemed annoyed as I tried to get my rather short body comfortably situated to see through the apparatus. He asked me a question, and as I was trying to respond, he said "Don't talk!" (no "please") " We are face to face here." Then he began the vision test. He worked very rapidly and was terse and very annoyed when I responded too slowly or if I was unsure. Then I was escorted into another room for additional testing with an assistant, who was very personable and positive. After that I waited for an extended period for the doctor. Finally he came in and gave me the positive results. He told me that I needed two more appointments to further evaluate my vision with regard to my familial propensity towards glaucoma. I said, "Oh, another appointment?" (This had always been accomplished within one visit at Dr. Duggan's office.). He snapped back with a defensive response that it couldn't all be done in one appointment, because it requires dilation and more time. I was already dilated!! Finally, I waited to see the optical technician, who was very pleasant and helpful. I ordered a pair of driving glasses and paid the extra $55 for the vision exam the doctor had performed, as Medicare does not cover it. I walked out of that office 2 hours after my appointment time and with two more appointments to go. No, I will not be returning to Dr Jovcar's office, and my husband will not be seeing him either. read more

Please please please Don't make appointments with him. His whole practice is a money making business. They don't want anything to do with their patients hardly spends 5 minutes with you. It's clearly mentioned in their site that first time visit checkup will have $75 charge but I received a bill of $250. Please don't go there. Dr. Jovkar had no interest in his patients. After checkup Dr. Suggested me to get a small surgery. They were not clear about how much it will cost and finally after 4 phone calls they told me it will cost around 6 times more then what other ophthalmologist did it in. Calling around to local Ophthalmologists (in a panic), I was only able to reach Dr. Jovkar who told me to immediately come-in to his office. He handled my problem perfectly, and I visit Dr. Jovkar routinely since then for checkups. I also unfortunately have Glaucoma so control the intraocular pressure well with three different prescription eye drops that he prescribed. I obviously need an excellent eye doc for my problems. Dr. Jovkar is always knowledgeable, and is also a rather 'caring' doctor. I can say nothing negative at all! My appointments are never rushed, his staff are all friendly and helpful, and I can always get an appointment as quickly as needed. I've known Dr. Jovkar for over 10 years and consider him a top-notch doctor. Unfortunately, his staff is incompetent in processing insurance claims and has a real attitude about it. If you have an HMO plan, find an ophthalmologist with a staff who understands how to work with HMOs. I use Valley Health Plan under Covered California Individual Family Plan with the SCCIPA network. Good insurance but they require pre-authorization. My primary care Medical Assistant took care of a retroactive authorization on their behalf as a favor. Stephie or whatever her name is was so clueless that she didn't even know it. Carol is under the impression that the PCP must provide the authorization each time, but that's not the case. It's only the first time. They just don't know what they are doing and are not willing to admit it. Further, they denied me scheduling a follow-up appointment until I got them paid on the retroactive claim for additional time spent beyond the original authorization. I will be switching Ophthalmologists. This is the classic case of an all-woman staff who have overstepped their boundaries. I hope that Dr. Jovkar hires a staff member who is competent in handling insurance claims and authorizations. read more

My eye doc Dr Duggan, retired and referred all his patients to Dr Jovkar. The first visit was long, disorganized and no one told me what to expect or what they were going to do. Jovkar was rushed, running from room to room. The dr was not listening when I said my vision has changed can I get it checked? Instead they did some tests and he said to come back. I explained I was having trouble with the new routine and didn't know what to expect. He just looked at me and said they would give me a paper that explained who he was. That didn't help as I already had that info from my retired docs office. I didn't like his bedside manner. He didn't seem to listen and was preoccupied with something. I decided to give him one more try. The next visit was worse. When asked about checking my vision he went into a diatribe about glasses being the only way to see clearly and contacts were never going to be as good as glasses. His example was if I take off my glasses I don't see anything but if I put them on then it is all clear. This had nothing to do with my request to check my vision which clearly was not on his list of things to do. At one point he asked me why I was asking about glasses vs contacts. I wasn't. Again I said my vision changed and I wanted him to check it. He said to come back. He overly complicated a very simple request. No I am not coming back. read more

I felt Dr. Sayed's exam was rushed. To my questions about the strength of my previous Rx and the current exam results, he was reluctant to explain or respond to my specific questions in detail Had my eyesight deteriorated? Was the new Rx "stronger?. Can he prescribe computer glasses? His answers were unresponsive, not clear, and argumentive. He kept stressing he had over 30 years of experience and dismissed my detailed questioning as uninformed. I was first diagnosed with pigmentary Glaucoma in 1983. In that time I have had 3 Opthamologists who monitored my eye pressure and checked my eye health on a regular basis. As each retired, they recommended me to another. I have been very happy with all the doctors, until this last one, number 4, Dr Jokvar. When entering his office for the first time, I felt uncomfortable. Everyone seemed on edge. I stocked it up to COVID, but still everyone I came into contact with was cold and unfriendly. The doctor was very cold, asked me no questions and mumbled, sending me on my way after a quick pressure check and eye drop refill. The second visit was very similar, except I was put into a room with computers and had to wait for 20 minutes before going through some tests. I didn't put see the doctor but for about 2 minutes to say I was fine. I called to cancel my 3rd appointment as I was moving to Southern Oregon a couple of days before. Locating a doctor in my new small town was a bit of a task. There are 2 OP's and both booked up for 3 months. As I was waiting for my appointment, I ran low on medication, calling Dr Jokvar to ask for a refill. He turned me down, saying he needs to see me. My being 6 hours away was no reason. He would not bend! Better that I run out of the medication that I have taken for 39 years, than he refill. No caring for my health. This will be my first and last visit to Dr. Jovkar. I was referred to him via a brochure sent to me by my previous eye doctor, Dr. Duggan who sadly retired. I only wished I had researched this doctor and read patient reviews before making an appointment. I have seen many eye doctors throughout my life but this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. The whole place feels like a factory with patients being ferried from one room to another, then back to the waiting room like commodities on a conveyor belt. I counted seven patients being treated at the same time when I was there. It was so impersonal and I felt that the questions and concerns I raised to Dr. Jovkar were quickly brushed off and discounted with impatience and annoyance. The rushed vision exam was by no means as thorough as prior vision exams I've had through the years. I felt discounted and almost invisible. As I left it I was thinking that maybe Dr. Jovkar was overwhelmed and tired until I read some of the reviews that other patients have left on yelp and learned that I was not alone in my perceptions. This office refused me treatment because I had questions about what I was signing and what costs I might incur. They were more concerned with assessing how I found their office than explaining their ingress paperwork. This is not an office to be trusted. Even my web browser agrees, marking their website as malicious. The physicians here may be good or they may be bad; I won't get to find out. And given how nasty some of the language in their contracts is, and how unhelpful they are in explaining it, I recommend you take their advice and go elsewhere too. read more

Dr. Jovkar took over Oscar Wand's practice a few years ago. I really liked Dr. Wand because he was friendly, really got to know his patients, pleasant, and not too late (as doctors tend to be.) I figured if Dr. Jovkar was taking over, it shouldn't be too bad of a transition. WRONG WRONG WRONG. I managed to book an 8:30AM appointment, which I needed since I had a meeting at 11AM that day. What time did I see the doc? 10:30. How long did he see me for? 2 minutes (not including the 10 minutes it took to dilate my pupils.) Why the hell was he running so late? BEATS ME. Something about some patient emergency. They should have at least told the overstuffed waiting room that maybe they needed to reschedule. Sure, we might be a little angry at having to reschedule, but 2 hour wait? I think all the veins in my head popped. Needless to say, I did not make it to my meeting on time. I'm sure he doesn't run 2 hours late all the time, but the lack of care for all his other (waiting) patients reflects poorly on him and his front desk. Two hours is really, just too much. Only star for cleanliness and friendly staff. Need to find a new eye doc :( read more

I am writing this on behalf of my 91-year-old mother. She met with Dr. Jovkar after her own ophthalmologist was not available to see her during Covid. Dr. Jovkar ran from one room to the next and never sat down. He never even asked what her issues were. After administering the vision exam, she wanted to ask him about some other eye issues she was experiencing and he responded, "I have to go now." As a result, several of her complaints never got addressed. She was very dissatisfied with Dr. Jovkar. read more

Strange these poor reviews -- sounds like a failure to communicate. I've been going there for two years, and always a very friendly low-key environment. Yet he has plenty of modern, digital equipment and computers, and Dr. Jovkar is highly qualified. I would easily have him do any future necessary surgery. His operation is highly organized and efficient. And he is a very compassionate MD. Two years ago I awoke one Friday with pain in one eye. I called every ophthalmologist around but only Dr. Jovkar told me to come right in! It was an eroded cornea that could be repaired with medication. Others couldn't see me until the following week and were not interested in quickly 'slipping me in.' I've found that Dr. Jovkar takes as much time with me as is needed. If he can measure my ocular pressure and a few other things, and get me out in under 10 minutes, all the better. I appreciate efficiency! And he's always available by phone or email! read more

A first class Ophthalmologist - I had major cataract as a byproduct of retina detachment surgery. All fixed despite some complications. Dr Jovkar is an highly knowledgeable and incredibly patient man who will take all the time you need to discuss various plans and pick what is most beneficial to you as the patient. I started going to Dr Jovkar when he took over Dr. Weinstein's patients and I have been VERY pleased. He is very competent, explains everything well and has a very nice nature. He diagnosed pterygiums in my eyes which I hadn't realized were only getting worse. He did the surgeries, one at a time last fall and is a excellent surgeon as well. He has impressed upon me the importance of lubricating my eyes too. His office staff Rosemary & Trisha are just wonderful and I feel well taken care of. Leisha, the optician cares about style when fitting glasses and has been very helpful in selecting frames for me over the last few years. My husband was in so much pain and he was attended promptly, while I was still filling the forms. Dr Sayed and his staff are very kind and attentive and examined and treat very well my husband. The doctor explains and clarifies everything about the diagnosis and the treatment. The following day my husband was much better and today (2 days after the consultation) he is almost completely fine. I have been there this year with a much simpler irritation on my eye and I also was examined and treated well. I definitely recommend Dr Jovkar. read more

I went for an eye checkup for flashes in my field of vision last June 2021. I was definitely disappointed with the examination. As an ophthalmologist(from India) I expected a full dilated examination with an indirect ophthalmoscope with the patient in a reclining position to ensure no tears in the retina till the orra. Also I am aware that it takes some time for my pupils to dilate completely. The doctor examined my eyes in mid dilated pupils, sitting positions, with an indirect ophthalmoscope. I seriously doubt if he checked till the orra. He was in a hurry and asked someone to take a photo which later on turned out to be the fundus photo of the posterior pole (not needed in this case with my vision normal especially without asking me and if i have to pay for it.) He asked me to come for another checkup later and of course I did not waste my time here. After such a bad checkup the front office files claim with medical (UHC) as opposed to VSP after multiple requests and follow up. I have asked them for the CPT codes, superbill so i can file the claim, but there is no response. THe front office lady Carol starts screaming on the phone if I call to talk to billing saying it's not a claim for VSP, but medical. I have worked with insurance codes with a medical billing certificate from AHIMA. So I refuse to pay a bill when the explanation is not rational but the yelling of the front office receptionist. Overall the experience makes me recommend people to run away from them. It has been nearly a year and I am still dealing with them. Not worth your time, effort, peace of mind. read more
