Speed & Sport Chrome Plating is a state of the art plating facility that has been serving customers all over the United States and the greater Houston area since 1971. If you are wanting to deal with folks that are rigorous in attention to detail and dedicated to quality this is the facility to handle your decorative chrome projects. I have tried other plating shops in the Houston area with varying dissatisfaction. Most important were quality issues. Also, other shops almost always fail to deliver in a timely manner. They over promise and under deliver. Speed & Sport advertised delivery for most parts is 15 business days and they make good on that promise. Bumpers that require straightening work may take an addition 5 business days. But they do NOT charge any additional fee for straightening ! Plating die-cast components (often referred to as pot metal) is a specialty for Speed & Sport. The utilize a copper cyanide process which is particularly suited for plating Zinc die-castings. Copper cyanide is a toxic hazardous material. Only shops that have been "grandfathered" by the EPA have the ability to use copper cyanide and there only a handful still in business. I have had large die-cast components as well as quite large 60's era bumpers plated by Speed & Sport. The results are spectacular and I am extremely tough to satisfy. I was recommended to Speed & Sport Chrome online. Craigs work looked great. He quoted me $ 365 for two pieces to be chromed. We had several positive email exchanges, and I agreed to the quote. The piece was mailed. A week later I emailed Craig a week later to see what the progress was, and I said I was just checking in with him. He informed me that he was working on the parts and would get back to me. The following day the parts arrived back from Texas which based on the previous day's email was a surprise. The package has COD status on it and the required amount was $610 dollars. Considerably more than I had initially agreed to. When I called him out on that the conversation took a very different tone. I was called "cheap" and it went downhill considerably quickly. I have been in business for 35 years and quoted many clients, if I change the price, I always confirm that price in advance to authorize the work. I was informed he didn't have my number (on all of the emails we exchanged) and he was too busy, and he didn't have time because he was so busy he couldn't keep up with his work. No matter how good your work may be your obligation in business, if you re-set the bar in regard to pricing you inform the client and allow them to determine to proceed of back out. $200 more for two pieces in a huge jump and if I had been quoted that to begin with, I would have said no. That is a 33 % increase between the quote and the final price. I would personally not do business with any entity that could not at the beginning of a transaction honestly quote me and remain within the price guideline. I have read many reviews for Speed Sport and Chrome and it seems this is a typical way in which Craig does business. Caveat emptor. read more

Called the place before heading out to make sure I can come and get an estimate on bunch of parts the voice over the phone said of course come in and we'll give you an estimate, I loaded all the parts drove an hour to get there, went inside the guy told me bring the parts in so I started unloading my truck and after a few boxes the guy tells me that I will have to leave the parts cause it will take them 5 to 6 hours to get an estimate for all my parts so got all my parts and boxes back to in truck and thanked him for letting me drive an hour each way for nothing. Unprofessional and not respectful. The number of parts I brought in a bad day will take an hour to get an estimate and it's usually not longer than half an hour. You lost my business! read more

This guy is a crook! He only takes C.O.Ds So you can't inspect it. Quotes one price and doubles it upon delivery. Also says he can return within two weeks but says he's so popular that it will be longer. He wants everybody's business once!He says his work is better than anyone around and it is average at best! I sent an automotive component here for chrome plating, on the recommendation of an acquaintance. Tonight I received a call saying the work was done and had been shipped out COD. I was told there would be an extra $10 for the COD, plus they wouldn't accept a personal check. Now I'm out the $10 COD fee (which is charged to the SHIPPER, not the recipient), and have to take the time to go buy a money order to get my irreplaceable part back. I looked on their website, there is absolutely no mention of parts being returned COD, nor did the owner ever mention this to me during either of my phone conversations with him. I haven't received the work yet, so can't comment on the quality, but I can say that the price charged for plating a very small part is certainly at the upper limit of the range. In my opinion, no matter how good the work might or might not be, there's just no excuse for sending something out COD with extra fees and strings attached without giving the customer the option to avoid those fees by sending payment in advance. And there's certainly no excuse for ANY legitimate business in this day and age not accepting credit cards or Paypal. The whole thing just left a sour taste in my mouth. I can't help but wonder if this method is used to insure receipt of payment (including extra charges not discussed with the customer) even if the chrome work is not acceptable at the end? I had just started speaking when the guy says "no thanks" and hung up on me. DO NOT waste your time or money on people who do business like this. We would fire someone for that type of behavior. I have been riding motorcycles H-D since I was 17 and I'm 62 now. I have tried plating shops from coast to coast along with boxing everything up and paying shipping cost. 30 to 45 days later you get it back with small problems here & there and sometimes big problems! You call and they tell you ship it back so we can look at it (They should have done that before shipping it back). Long story short I heard about Speed & Sport about 18 years ago! Loaded up my parts and went to Houston. Met Craig the owner who happens to be a friendly & helpful kind of person so I gave him a shot. 18 years have come and gone yet I still use him "If it's not broken don't fix it" if you will. My bike was under water for a day & 1/2 during Hurricane Ike. What ever was in the water took off all the factory chrome along with the after market plating. Hell even took off the chrome on my "Snap-on" tap & die set! Craig did my lower legs and a few other parts about a year before the storm. Soap & water and they looked as good as before the storm AND I'm still running them ! Lets see who can Trump that? His gold "24K" plating is just as good!
