Had a great experience at this place. Bought a groupon for it because I needed my car smoged for my car registration. This place is STAR certified. There is an additional $8 something labor fee charged. Walked in a was created immediately, was given a time frame of 10-15 minutes and was pleasantly surprised when my car was finished within the given time frame. Plus: Their name really says it, it was a speedy smog check! Granted there was no one ahead of us. There was hot coffee and different flavored creamers available which was really nice bc it was a very cold day. The attendant also offered to make more if we desired. I left my lunch pail and hydro flask behind and they gave us a call about 10 minutes after, my boyfriend and I were currently at a nearby restaurant and they said they closed at 6pm and to come anytime before that. Negative: the only thing I can think of is a sign out front would greatly help in finding the place. There is no sign that says "Speed E Smog" outside. read more

The guy at the front counter attempted to imply that I was inconveniencing him for attempting to use the coupon offered here after a bit of confusion over my registration form. His words were something very close to, (paraphrasing) 'You don't have what I ask for and you give me this? Give it to me...' when I showed him the coupon. I somewhat abruptly excused myself and let him know I'd take my business elsewhere. Honestly, I'd go back of I didn't have to deal with this guy. The place is centrally located in Citrus Heights and seemed reasonably well put together aside from the odd smell in the front office but, what can you expect from a smog shop. I bought the Yelp deal here where it says $36 for $89 worth. Got there early and was the first person there. The guy Jose tells me I still have to pay $8 for a certificate after my smog which I thought was weird since I should be covered for $89. Then a lady came in and guess what? $31.99 special no pass no pay. I was really upset about wasting money on yelp buying their lie. Not only that! My car failed and what happened to my prepaid "special yelp deal"? It was wasted. The guy would not even be any help telling me what I need to do to fix it other than take it somewhere. So I left pissed off and stopped over at a smog shop called M & S and told them my story. The nice guy there told me what I should fix and to come back in a few days after that to smog it. Next time I'm going to be more cautious when looking on yelp. I chose this place because of its reviews, but now that I look at it most of them are a little new so I doubt they all are real. read more

I got my smog check done today (it needed to be at a STAR certified location). I had never gotten one done before since I only recently started driving so I didn't know what to expect. My car is a '99 Toyota Corolla. I called in advance to get a quote on the price and the man said it would be $40 for the test and certificate out the door. This was very reasonable to me, so I went to the location and *important* I told the employee (not the same person I spoke with) that I had called and that is what they quoted me. He said he was glad I told him because otherwise it would have been $58... in other words, I recommend calling ahead and DEFINITELY asking about specials going on. Don't expect them to just tell you about it... I thought this was a little different but oh well, I still got my promised price! The smog check itself took less than 15 mins. I passed, paid and was on my way. Overall, Speed E Smog has reasonable prices (even if I didn't have a discount) and quick service. I'd definitely come back here again! read more

Not too sure about the negative reviews on here. Today was my second time getting a smog check here for car registration purposes. I had purchased the groupon deal. I called ahead to check if I needed an appointment, the owner was pleasant, polite, and helpful on the phone. Upon arrival, he made it clear about the certificate fee even though I had purchased the groupon. I appreciated the clarification. He does seem a bit rushed with paperwork but with a name like Speed E Smog Check, I would expect that they are driven to get you in and out of there as quickly as possible. Smog check was completed quickly and paperwork and payment was handled in a friendly and pleasant manner. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for a quick and reliable smog check. read more

Great smog shop, I was in and out in less than 10 minutes after making a reservation on Sunday, which most smog places aren't. There is a extra $8.25 charge if you do the Yelp/Groupon code but that's still over half price savings. If you want a nice lobby this place isn't what you are looking for, they do have 4-5 chairs, and a 20-25 inch tv, but if you just want to get in and out at a cheap price this place is perfect. read more

This place is so unprofessional. I went there to get a smog and they completely ignored me. I saw several guys look at me, but they didn't come help me or tell me they would be with me shortly. I stood there for more than 5 minutes and saw them look at me several times. Also their prices listed on the wall were more expensive than the prices listed in the website. Barely took 15 minutes and that was with a lady ahead of me. Derrick, the man who helped me, was very nice and answered my questions. He worked the counters and did the testing and still did everything more efficiently than the big smog companies. This place costs ~$10 more than what you could get from a big chain, but I thought it was worth the extra to have a quick experience. Plus, you're supporting a local business. I have been coming to this smog shop for years with all of my vehicles because of the free retest. This last trip I came back for the retest and they changed me an additional $26 on top of the full price I had already paid. I was told they were under new ownership and would not be honoring smogs that have already been paid for. Such a shady business practice. Time to find a new smog place. read more

Can I give zero stars?! The website says they are open until 6:00. I arrived at 5:40 and the attendant told me he was closed "because it's dark." I went out of my way during rush hour because they were supposed to be open until 6:00, now it's too late for me to go somewhere else. Sucks. Would NOT recommend. read more

The tech was friendly and the service was mostly good. However, the tech said my car failed the smog - the visual test - and gave me some info for CAP program repairs and restesting info. I just had an oil change, but it was about 100 miles ago so I wasn't sure if that had anything to do with it. Anyway, I took the car to the dealer, paid $150 for a retest, and it passed. I'll let you come to your own conclusion on that one. I returned to do the retest and guess what, they charge for restest!! Like every other smog shop has free retest so I was like WTF but of course there was a sign, and he had highlighted it on the original visit's invoice. Still, who charges for a restest?!? I was looking around for a last minute smog check as my registration is due tomorrow, lol. Found Speed E on Yelp and saw they had a Yelp deal that was a pretty significant savings. To be honest, after reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant to go there. But hey, dmv is due...$38 dollar deal...I'm a big boy, how bad could it be. I purchased the deal and showed up with no appointment around 3:00pm Friday afternnon. There was one person ahead of me and the guy at the counter asked me to fill out some paperwork and said the job would be done around 4:00pm. The guy at the counter was very nice, spoke to me like I mattered and he was happy to have my business...that goes a long way with me. I sat down fully expecting to be there longer than 45 minutes and really thought I'd have to pay a premium for bringing in a full-size truck. At 4:00pm almost to the second, he told me my smog check was done. Wow, on time! Very surprised. He said it would be $8 and change for the certificate, which I already knew, and that was it. No truck premium, no blah, blah, blah, no trying to gouge me. Just great service that was on time and on budget. I will defiantly continue to bring my business here, and tell others to as well. I feel very happy I disregarded the bad press this place got in the past. Maybe it used to be that way, but it wasn't my experiance. They definitely are fast, which is awesome, but I what I didn't appreciate was that they opened 45 minutes late. Myself and two other people were waiting outside at 8am, but no one ever came. We stayed for a good 20 minutes and called before two of us decided to give up and leave. I kept calling, and was finally able to get someone to answer the phone around 8:45, so I ended up going back. Luckily I'm only 15 minutes away, but I can imagine how much it sucks if people drive farther than that to go to this place. If you're going to advertise that you're open from 8-5 daily, please make sure you're actually there when you say you're going to be! read more

I wish I would have written his name down, since I went a couple weeks ago, but when I went here to complete my registration required smog (which was due within a day or two) the employee was so nice and helpful! I had work that day and had originally arrived about an hour before my shift but there was one person before me. **I explain this because I've worked in customer service my whole working career and sooo many times have I had people who rush in, expecting everyone to stop to accommodate their schedule regardless of what was previously going on or who was in front of them. So I asked him before hand if this was enough time since, as far as I could see, he was the only one there; taking people at the window inside and hurrying out to the garage to do the checks. Regardless he made sure to finish up the person before me, help two other customers check in at the window, and finish my car in time for me to leave when I needed to. Also I had a coupon but my yelp app was having trouble loading so he was able to use one from their webpage or something. It's little things like this that make a big difference - as cheesy as it may sound. Kinda long but tbh I don't think good people are given the credit they deserve, especially compared to the "bad" people ( or someone having a bad day) being called out. They were closed and had a note on the door that they had a doctors apt and would be back in a few hours. I found this place had a Groupon that I wanted to check out because I'm in the market to get my car smogged for the first time since I've had it. I have an older car that I figured is going to cost some extra to smog so I wanted to get a quote to see how much I would be paying at this location. I called just this morning and explained my car and how I found the Groupon for $38. I asked if there were any extra fees and the gentleman started telling me a bunch of numbers for the certificate and for evac and whatever else there were fees for. I asked what the total would be about(so I'm looking for tax and everything here) and he told me that I can "do the math." And proceeded to break it down and add it out number by number for me like I were a child. "Okay so 20 plus 8 plus...." I stopped listening and thanked him and hung up. How rude! It's a shame. This place looked really promising but I feel so insulted just from that phone call that I'm not even going to try it. read more

The pricing of this place is way too high. I had a coupon for $20 off & they still wanted to charge me $89 for a simple smog check on a newer year car. That's crazy! All of auburn blvd is full of places to get this done for about half the price. While they offered to discount it to $58, it was still a really ridiculous price. I printed out a $20.00 coupon on their website to present to the desk clerk. Once I arrived, the guy stated that smog was $60.00 plus the certificate fee with coupon. I told him no that's ok I'll go somewhere else. He then proceeds to barter with me, stating he would do the smog for $50.00 plus the certificate fee. When I told him no again he stated he would do it for $36 plus certificate fee. I was really irritated that I couldn't get a standard price and ended up taking my business up the street. Pretty good value and they were one of the few places open on the weekend. However I was treated rudely when I called back after 5 weeks and had not received my tags. I asked for them to double check the electronic transmission had gone through to DMV. The person who answered the phone said of course it was sent without asking for my name to confirm. I asked again if he could just check and he said he didn't have time for this and gave the phone to someone else. Turns out the problem with the tags was on DMV's side not Speed e Smog but I did not appreciate the attitude. However the rude person was not the owner and the owner apologized for his employee so I guess I would give them another try. read more

Avoid this place! Purchased a groupon. Upon arrival I was told it would be 15 minutes. But that I would have to pay $20 extra because it's an '85 Toyota. My 15 minutes turned into an hour and a half because "the other machine wasn't turned on and has to warm up." After all that, it was a few degrees off on timing, so it failed even though all the emissions came out passing with flying colors. I was told I could retest for free. I went home and reset my timing, but went on vacation so I wasn't able to get back in for 45 days. Upon my return he pointed out the fine print he hadn't told me when I left last time. "Free retest within 30 days" He wouldn't make any exceptions and demanded I had to pay again. Screw it. Went somewhere else. Highly recommend AD Smog in midtown. Currently waiting to get my car smogged. This little hole in the wall place has provided a good experience for me. Called earlier this morning to get some information: got the $40 small deal, free retest if you don't pass, open on weekends until the evening. Owner is a really nice guy. For any first time smog customers, don't forget to bring your registration paperwork with you! My only wish is that their office was a little bit bigger to accommodate all of us waiting.
