WARNING, WARNING. NO REPAIR WAS NEEDED NOR PERFORMED BY THE MECHANIC!!! The car just passed at the next reputable smog station we went to. IF a repair had been necessary and performed we fully intended on returning to STAR but since NO REPAIRS WERE MADE it seemed like we had been scammed. Do not go here! On October 12, 2022 we took our 1986 Toyota 4runner to this 'Star" station. The Toyota has NEVER failed a smog in over 30 years so we were shocked when STAR SMOG said we failed the 'visual' portion of the test and that we needed a smoke test. So off we went to a mechanic to spend another $100. Mechanic performed a smoke test and checked evap canister stating sorry there is nothing in need of repair and suggested maybe going to a different Smog shop so we did even though it would cost more than the retrat at STAR SMOG. So off we went to ANOTHER Smog shop to spend ANOTHER $100 PLUS in hopes that that shop was more honest than STAR Per usual 4RUNNER passed with flying colors. So...this RIPOFF just wanted to charge us for a RETEST "for half-price" on return. NOT A CHANCE WILL WE RETURN HERE EVER! Oh and did I mention "STAR" also could not place our vehicle on his machine properly? Husband had to yell "hey, hey stop!" to let him know the back tire was NOT on machine. I had a good experience here last year- service was quick and I appreciated that the proprietor was masked and keeping the waiting room door open for ventilation. I'm not sure what's happened since then but my experience was different this time. It was busier and there wasn't really a clear way to queue (it would be beneficial to have a second person keeping track of that and handing out paperwork). Despite the existence of the highly-transmissible omicron variant and the fact that there were several patrons around, the proprietor was not masked. Literally all of the customers were masked. Even a small child on the bench at least had one with her. But not him, not even when getting inside the vehicles. When it comes to the actual smog, I've still got a bone to pick. The repair light was on and, in my admitted ignorance and rush to get the smog done, I didn't have it looked into before bringing it in. The proprietor got in the car, hooked up the equipment, and proceeded with the test. When it was done, he ushered us inside and highlighted the misfire issues and told us we'd need to take it to a mechanic and then come back. Surely he knew that was the likely outcome when he saw the engine light in the car, but he got his $60. That was within his power to do, but I find it incredibly dishonest. He charges half the price for a retest (I've been to establishments that retest for free) so he probably saw it as $90 guaranteed. It's unfortunate how different my second visit here was. I went out of my way to return based on my first experience. Clearly I will not be back and I don't recommend it. read more

Please beware ! My car was not ready for a smog and he said he would not charge me to drive the car and come back. I came back within 2 hours and it was ready to smog but was made to pay again after being told there would be no additional charge . He did not honor his word. He wouldn't even make eye contact with me or discuss anything! His word means nothing . I feel because I'm a woman he took advantage of me. read more

I was a little concerned about getting our car smogged during this pandemic mess. I've been very diligent about social distancing and not going indoors to businesses if at all possible. I was thrilled that the entire smog check transaction could be handled outdoors. The gentleman who runs Star Smog stepped out front to greet me, he put on a mask and gloves, maintained distance, and was careful to wipe down my key and the parts of the car he touched with a disinfecting wipe once the smog check was complete.
