Unfortunately, to further troubleshoot they would have had to open the engine, a bit time consuming and a costly repair if the piston components were damaged. The news was unfortunate but I just wanted an honest assessment rather than just shotgunning parts like the last shop that tried to troubleshoot the issue.

I'm doing the service because I'm coming up on 60k which is the recommended. So I missed another day of work because he so confidently convinced me to bring it in first thing just to be refused. Sounds like he didn't want to be stuck with the quote. And how unconfident in your workers that it may come back in 2 weeks. If I got brakes should I expect my brakes to fail? And I have max care so my car is covered as long as I do the services so I'm on top of everything.

They've worked on my 2017 Ford Transit Connect, 2014 Mercedes GL63, and 2014 BMW X5. They replaced a driver-side CV axle, did oil changes, replaced brake pads and rotors, diagnosed and fixed an A/C and heater blower issue, repaired a trunk/liftgate problem, and also replaced a valve cover and gasket and battery. What stood out to me most was how knowledgeable, honest, and fair Samson and his team were throughout the process. The staff are friendly, the front desk is welcoming, and the customer service has been great. It's hard to find a shop that does quality work at reasonable prices, but 916 Auto Repair has done that for me. Definitely recommended.

My AC Drier was cracked and inoperable since last year. In this region of the Sacramento Valley and Placer County, 916 Auto quote beat 5 shops I contacted in the region and 1 shop even told me it's not worth it and I should get a new car. Bet if my car was a 69 Camaro, they'd do it. Why? Cause its a Classic Camaro. No matter the condition. Some shops don't want to work on Imports. But oh well. Their loss, not mine. I contacted 916 Auto and spoke to Samson to schedule an appointment and he said to come by that very same day. And so I drove from Roseville to Gold River that morning. Samson is honest & to the point. When he pulled my car in, he noticed a coolant leak. Now I didn't notice any leaks in my driveway, as it would seem the Coolant is evaporating or dissipating, but he notice it was getting on my Alternator, by the stains. It turns out, my OEM water pump (factory part since 2003 for this model year in 2004) finally gave out at 262K miles. Who'd ever think a Mazda/Ford part would last this long. This was an unexpected thought as I only had budgeted for the quote. So I called my CFO (Wife) and let her know of the issue. She said get it fixed and she'll adjust other expenses as she knows I need AC for the upcoming summer temps. So I authorized Samson to proceed with the entire job. Now I can't couldn't do any price comparison, but he did give me a discount which still fit in my overall budget. I spent my whole day in their lobby. They have updated their lobby to make it feel more comfortable and less Auto Shop feel. I notice the many people who drop by to have their car service are all happy and are returning customers. From a Dealership oil drain plug that was torqued too tight, to oil changes, brakes, and even a customer who was a bit upset where the Dealership sent the wrong part twice. The Dealership. I spoke to many of them and they all had the same answer when I ask. "What made you come here?" They replied, "Their price can't be beat!". In summary, my AC is now working as it should. Now I only used my AC for 2 whole days It gets cold and it has been awhile since I have felt cold in my aging car of 22 years. With my new water pump installed as well, my car is running smoother overall. Smoother shifts, heater gets warm fast. Almost, now almost like it was in 2004. So, Did I find a new shop for my Project Commuter Car? Yes I sure did. They have gotten a new customer. Up next is my Transmission Gasket & plug. One thing at a time! Have fun out there & do your research!

After going to 2 other star stations, and being turned away. Both saying to come early in the day even though both didn't close for a lil over an hour, and said my test takes 45mins. I called this guy just before 5, and he said come on in. Was very nice, and respectful. I could also tell he was very experienced, and gave me tips with preparation before getting smog in the future. Completed my smog in about 45 mins was back on the road before 6. I would recommend this smog shop 1st now. Left feeling good, with all my needs taken care of. Thanks good man. read more

The Smog Shop is great because of Phillip. I have 1990 Toyota that needs special tests to pass Smog. Philip had me take the truck back to my mechanic because the timing was off and not with range. I got it fixed, took it back to Philip, and it passed nicely. He also charged a lot less than other shops would have charged for that older truck. I found The Smog Shop after having a bad experience at another smog store. I failed the first time but the owner explained to me what the readings meant and what the possible problems might be. I ended up going to a shop he recommended to have my catalytic converter replaced. I went back the same day and passed with flying colors. Highly recommend The Smog Shop near Foothill Farms! I called to make an appointment and missed them, but I received a prompt call right back. Phil (the owner) remembered me when I arrived in my Mercedes GLK. The waiting area was spotless, and I was in and out in under 20 minutes. You think old chairs, mystery smells, questionable coffee, and the faint sound of someone arguing over a check engine light. Not here. I pulled up to Greenback Smog and immediately thought, "Okay wait... this place is actually clean clean." Like... not "car shop clean." I mean genuinely organized, refreshing, and welcoming. I was almost suspicious. I'm like hold on... am I getting a smog or checking into a boutique mechanic spa? From the jump, the gentleman working the front was outstanding. And when I say working the front, I mean working EVERYTHING. This man was basically the quarterback, offensive coordinator, and entire coaching staff all in one. He was cashing people out, pulling the next customer up, keeping track of the line, answering questions, giving updates, and somehow still moving with the precision of a surgeon on a double espresso. Boom. Next car. Boom. Payment. Boom. Helpful tip. Boom. Back to work. No wasted movement. No chaos. No attitude. Just pure efficiency and great customer service. While my truck was getting smogged, he was also dropping little gems and giving me helpful tips along the way, which I genuinely appreciated. That's the kind of stuff that sticks with people. He wasn't just trying to rush me through--he actually cared enough to be helpful. And here's the part that really stood out to me... People were still showing up after closing. Now most places hit you with that "sorry, we're closed" look before you even get out of your car. Not here. He let them know there'd be a wait, but he was still willing to help and get to them. That's real hospitality. That's somebody who takes pride in what they do and understands people are just trying to handle life stuff without making it harder than it needs to be. In a world where customer service sometimes feels like it's hanging on by a thread, Greenback Smog was a refreshing reminder that good people still run good businesses. One of the worst customer service situations I've ever encountered and the fact that the mechanic could barely string a coherent sentence together wasn't helping either.
