Potential applicants should do their homework before considering employment with this franchise. Based on what I personally witnessed and experienced, I observed what I believe to be unfair and racism also inconsistent treatment of employee, which left me with serious concerns about the workplace culture and management decisions. I am particularly troubled by what appeared to be disparities in how certain employees were treated, as well as hiring decisions that, in my opinion, did not always prioritize the most qualified candidates. These observations are based solely on my personal experiences and perceptions. I intend to discuss these concerns directly with Mike and management. Took car to SpeeDee in Salem, VA for inspection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Pulled up around back and waited but nobody acknowledged me being there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Waited a few minutes while watching two mechanics talking to each other, still not acknowledging me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] One of them walked away, never glancing toward me while the other mechanic started scrolling on his phone. No doubt the worst service I have ever experienced at a mechanic shop. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Customer service was absolutely terrible, they were rude lazy and acted like they didn't want to even be there.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Im not even sure if these guys even deserve to be called mechanics, I don't think these guys even know how to put there own shoes on correctly let alone turn a wrench and torque a bolt to spec. Also can't really blame them there manager is working theme like dogs and made the dude skip his lunch do to a few cars ahead of mine. Not giving workers time to take a break lead to bad decision making. Had a break job done on my truck and on the way home the caliber flew off through the rim and it sounded like a shotgun went off. Locked my back tire up and I almost got hit by a semi truck behind me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had to jump through hoops to get this resolved and ended up taking the truck to a better shop that actually knew what they were doing.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I will say the company did pay to get everything fixed, but this never should have happened in the first place. would not recommend to my worst enemy . This place is dangerous to your car. Came here for routine maintenance and ended up broken down on the side of the road. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The staff recommended a coolant swap when I came in for an oil change and inspection.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had trusted this place and been here before so I said sure. I paid $230 total for work they did not do. The staff did not put coolant back in my car. None. My car overheated, white smoke pouring out, and shut off into safety idle mode on i-81 while I was surrounded by semi trucks. I could have crashed my car and seriously injured myself or someone else. Luckily, I was able to steer my car off of the road after it shut off. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The worst part of all of this is that this business handled the situation HORRIBLY.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They asked me to tow it to them to "check" on the car, and that they would pay for the towing and any maintenance needed on it if they deemed it their fault.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They ended up just having me tow it to them to cover up anything they had done. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The story kept changing about how all of this occurred and I could not get a straight answer from different employees about what was done on my car.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When I had first taken it back to them they said my car was perfectly fine! That there were no problems at all, the engine looked great! I had to explain to them that the radiator cap had blown off from the overheating pressure and was missing. He didn't know what I was talking about! Eventually they found the missing cap (after I had to walk them through where it was and what it looked like... it was right next to the coolant container opening so I wonder if they even looked at my engine at all...) and then all of a sudden the story changed to the cap being loose (complete coincidence of course) and that every milliliter of coolant spilled out of the loose cap which eventually blew off because of the great pressure from the leak. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Then the story changed to, "we drove it for an hour and it looked great, once the engine cools down we will put a new cap on it and you can pick it up."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thus, they were driving it around for an hour without the cap on it? I thought that was the reason I had no coolant in the first place? I took it to another mechanic after this experience and he said that none of their explanations made any sense for how the car looked and what had happened to it. He said they had just not put coolant in it in the first place. Speedee did not pay for the towing nor did they reimburse me for the work they didn't do but charged me for. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They handed me the keys when I went to pick it up, didn't give me any paperwork/information, and then they just walked away.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They lack integrity and honor in taking any accountability for their actions. They will lie and cover up for mistakes they've made. I can handle a business that makes a mistake, but a business that lies and covers up their mistakes is just blatantly dangerous. After this experience, when I spoke to people about my experience, I learned that there were other people that also had damage to their cars from this location after routine maintenance. Finding an honest, reputable mechanic to inspect and maintain your vehicle(s) is one of the hardest tasks for car owners. Especially when the system places mechanics who fix cars in the position of inspecting and rejecting them. Jesse and the team at SpeeDee on Electric road are those reputable guys. They will make adjustments for free, tell you what needs to be done and show you on the vehicle why it needs to be done. And their prices are in line with normal standards for parts and labor. I have had other people reject my car when they recommended pricy repairs to be in compliance, and SpeeDee either rejected their solutions and found cheaper alternatives, or called them to confer on what they saw and told them what the SpeeDee team found. They have earned my trust time and time again, snd I drive high-mileage vehicles with confidence because of them. read more

Our car broke down on our way back from vacation, leaving us about 3 hours from home. Timmy, Carl, and Tyler were able to immediately diagnose the issue and get us up and running. They were willing to get the parts needed and complete the job, even at 4 PM on a Friday afternoon. We were back on the road by 6 PM and heading home. I drove in to the Spee-Dee because my truck had been nagging me for a week. It wasn't busy in the middle of the morning. A team member met me at the curb and explained their services. One directed me to park over the pit, and several employees immediately began checking tires, opening the hood, and calling out vehicle details. The entire process was quick and easy. I never had to exit the vehicle, and was kept apprised of the process all the way through. I heard the double-checks when someone verified the oil filter was the tight one, and that it was fastened properly. They checked several fluids and showed me the clean oil dipstick properly filled at the end of the process. I'm impressed and will return. read more

"Hometown feel" The people working at speedee are overly friendly. I recommend this place for your oil change needs. They are thorough and complete... I think the owner actually runs the place, in another words I think the owner is there, which is huge, I believe. They even have a five dollar coupon off of a basic oil change on the website that is scannable on your phone. Easy in,easy out... Just what I like! Just got an oil change, tune up and tire rotation done. I called and was told the car was done. I got there and it wasn't. The tires hadn't been rotated. I waited 30min for that to be done. When the car was finished I expected someone to explain what they had done. Didn't happen, I asked how the brakes looked. The guy that was ringing me up said he didn't know as he didn't do the work. He asked the guy that did the work and told me they looked fine. When I asked when he checked them He yelled back at me " I didn't do the work." I asked why he was angry with me and he said he thought I was referring to him doing the work. I paid and left. Rude and unprofessional. The check list said F/R Window Exteriors- Completed. Vacuum interior -Completed. Neither was done. I went there believing Tom Haas was the owner but I now believe he is no longer there. I'm sure the customer service would have been better had he been there. I won't go back nor will I recommend them. read more

complaint with store #03036, I came in for a state inspection. one car in the car bay with a guy working on it, there were 3-4 employees just hanging out in area. Guy came and asked what I needed. I need an inspection. he checked the time which was 4pm and said car in the bay was getting inspected and they couldn't fit me in. So it takes 2 hrs to do an inspection? last year it was 30. meanwhile other employees just hanged out doing nothing. won't go there again! read more

Worst experience ever. I arrived for a state inspection and was told it would be a 2 hour wait. After sitting there for 3 1/2 hours I was told they couldn't do it today. While sitting there, guys were standing around talking and not doing anything. I was told they didn't have time because a brake job came in even though they were still open for another hour. The tech that came and told me was very unprofessional and seemed like he could care less. The lead tech didn't even come try to talk to me to make things better. I'm surprised this shop is still open with the staff they have. Most unprofessional mechanics I've seen. read more

Employee yelled at me in the store, spoke to me like i was an idiot and assured me, without evening looking at my car, that it didnt matter who i took the car to, no one would be able to reattach the mirror that had fallen off. When i contacted the owner he yelled at me too, saying they both reacted that way because i was arguing with them. Been trying to get an inspection and always told several hour wait. Same thing this morning. Went back and was told he ran an errand to Vinton. Figured I would wait as it was important and I was next in line that way. Noticed 3rd guy back and figured it was him. Sat there waiting an hour and a half. After several others had come and gone I asked this guy if he had any guess when the inspector would be back. He said "That's me and I'm busy" very rudely and walked off. I'm new to Yelp, so this review is years coming. We took a car in for an ignition problem a few years back and they supposedly fixed it. However within a couple of weeks the car was broken down again. We found out that they basically had rigged the distributor and when I contacted them about fixing it right without charge or if not, refunding our money....well. The owner of this location, they are franchised, got really nasty and hateful with me. I mean curse word hateful. Anyway, we spoke with the owners of the Salem, VA. location, who are a separate franchise unrelated to the Electric Rd location. They were extremely courteous and apologized even though it wasn't their shop who did the bad work. They offered to fix the car at a discounted rate, even though they didn't have to. Actually the Salem location confirmed that the work Electric Rd. did was a "rig" job and that the car needed more extensive work. I had them do what they could for a low cost and was on my way. If you want to use a Speedee in the Roanoke Area, STAY AWAY from ELECTRIC ROAD (419) location. Salem has a better, more honest location, I believe there is one in Vinton too. read more
