I will not argue that you can get your emissions and safety inspections done without an appointment here, however it is an extremely poorly managed business. The "system" they use is archaic, writing down your name and shouting it off a list 90 minutes later, god forbid you dont hear because they will remove you from the list and you have to put your name down again. Most of the staff is fine, but they also employ a real oaf of a man who will yell at you, curse you out, and belittle you with minor insults (espe ially if he detects your english isn't "up to snuff"). This place in really rough. I went to get an ID/OD on my motorcycle and waited an hour before anyone came out to look at the signup board and get car information. While the man wall calling names he read a name incorrectly and a woman politely corrected him. He told her "whatever", she asked him again to pronounce her name correctly and he got very aggressive and yelled at her that he didn't care and that she should go somewhere else. I had to pick up my kids from school so I told the man and went to get them and came back. When I returned they told me they couldn't walk a bike into the bay and they had just not done my test. I finally moved the bike for them and they completed the work. It was cheap and the second man that performed the check was very nice. read more

I started filling out all of the paperwork he gave me and didn't notice the small print in the middle of the page stating "to be filled out by inspector" he asked if I could read and when I said yes, he said "well, apparently not." Building and accommodations are a bit run down. There are always more people than chairs. They have a soda machine in the lobby. TV on loud volume to keep customers entertained while waiting. Service is always friendly, but be prepared for a 2+ hour wait. They are usually careful to take customers in the order they arrived though, which I really appreciate, but be careful to watch when you're in the lobby because they sometimes get it mixed up when they start taking the next group of people from the paper list. read more

It may take 10mins may take 1 hour, but they will get you in. "Closes" at 4pm but they will finish everyone in the sign in sheet before they go home. New to town I found myself registering my car at the end of the month. I called most places that offered me appointments for next week. I called this place near day's end. They said that they would take me if I was willing to take my chances and wait in line. With no other chances of getting inspected that day, I got over there immediately. It was a crude but effective sign-in sheet that put you in line. Several other people were waiting around and it was easy to see people quickly being moved out as soon as their cars were done. I wanted maybe 40 minutes and was glad to do it just so I could get it done that day. These people are busy. They don't have time for niceties, but they were efficient and serious about the line-up discipline. So, I highly recommend using this place for your state-required emissions test and inspection. read more

I went with 2 family members to get emissions and safety done and they failed, actually they didn't they just wanted to see why there were so many bad reviews and we found out why. They get service for the place next door. We passed and when we showed them they got mad and told us to leave, we told everyone there and they left. I came here at the end of the month because I had waited too long to do my emissions test and so I couldn't get an appointment anywhere else. When I called in they told me that they didn't take reservations and that because it's the last week of the month the wait time would be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours. When I pulled up there was a clipboard and a sign saying to write your name on the clipboard and wait outside until your name is called. They only allow three people in the interior waiting area inside at any time and those are the people that are currently having their cars worked on. From the time I arrived to checking out I was there for 2 1/2 hours. I did time it on my phone stopwatch just out of curiosity. Once my name was called, my emissions test was done in 7 minutes. It cost me about $24. The inside of the waiting area was pretty grimy. But they did have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes that I used to wipe down the seat I sat in and the general area. But each clean wipe I used was black with dirty when I was done with it. Gross. According to the signs, masks are required inside for all customers and the people followed the rules while I was there. However, the staff wore masks inconsistently. This is not really where I'd normally like to go, but when you're in a pinch, it's helpful. Just try to avoid going the last week of the month. read more

The other reviews are spot on. The employees here are generally unhappy and gruff. However! I would be unhappy and gruff if I were treated the way they were. People were yelling at them about the wait time, about how they weren't moving fast enough, etc. With so many other places simply not doing emissions anymore, they're getting slammed day in and day out with people needing emissions & inspections. They were getting through a car about every 15 minutes, including check in, testing, and check out. Plan on waiting, but you'll at least leave with everything you need to renew your plates. I came home and it was already uploaded to the state's database and I was able to register my car online. read more

TLDR: unsympathetic greedy business Came in a week ago to get my safety and emission test done with this company (first time in MO). Cost for the entire procedure is $24 for emission and $12 for safety. Failed both due to my passenger seatbelt not functioning completely for safety and O2 sensors is not detected by their machine for emission. They told me that retest is free within 20 days of failed attempt. Got an appointment with my dealership a week later to take care of all the needed fails that they told me I will need to get fixed (photos below). I showed up the same day few minutes after I got out of the dealership to get my inspection done. After an hour, they tell me I failed my emission again because of the O2 sensor. I showed them the proof of me getting everything done and they said that I need to let the car run for a bit on the new sensors for their machine to recognize it. The kick in the balls is when they said the next time I come back however, is that they will have to charge me $24 since I used up my free second try. I mean I have proof of getting everything done and if I can drive around for a few hours and come back you cannot waive the O2 sensor? There is a limit on the greed. Second and last time I will be using this store and will also let others who have been thinking about using this store to look elsewhere. read more

I appreciate this place a lot. Fist and foremost it is there for one thing which is safety and emissions. I like that they have no reason to fail people because they are not trying to upscale for services. They are cheap and in my case I need need windshield wipers but they fixed it for like 10 bucks. And he fixed another part of my car for free. I really enjoyed the service. The guy was really nice. He cracked jokes and I cracked some jokes. I really like the service. Simple and to the point. Easy to find off the road and if you don't pass there is a car x next to them so you can get them fixed. Also another thing that is great is there are up the street from a dmv. So in and out and up the street. Highly suggest this place. I recommend getting there early as possible. read more

I'm really surprised at the low reviews. I've used them for different renewal periods and they will continue to be my go to. I love that it's one stop shopping. The waiting area just looks like an old mom and pop shop area but it doesn't bother me. What do you expect?! 1st class luxury waiting area? They get you in and out, 30 minutes tops. I actually failed my inspection one time for a windshield crack that went for so long I totally looked over it and forgot it was there. When I told me I couldn't do anything but laugh at myself because it was such a blond moment. I knew there was no way I would pass with that but I was not thinking. I pasted without issue the last One I went and he told me that people get mad and calls him racist when they don't past the safety inspection. I can definitely say that they are not racist. The issue is that only one person is working. You walk up to the door, sign your name, and he goes down the list and when it's your turn he calls your name. I ended up being 10th in line on a early Wednesday afternoon. I waited 2 hrs and luckily was seen after store hours. He was a bit snarky with me when I didn't hear his question correctly, and charged me $36 for an emissions test (he said I didn't need a safety test because my vehicle is too new/not used enough. I should have spoken up about the charges, but I noticed on Missouri's Department of Revenue website that the legal maximum charge for an emissions test is $24 and $12 for a safety inspection. So you see how he ended up charging $36? I'm reporting this business to the DOR. Run away from this one! read more

With Covid you got to sign your name on a board outside and wait for them to call you and if there's two ppl waiting already you gotta wait in your car. Speedemissions is a misnomer! It should be named "we can do an emission test for you in 3 and a half hours if you care to wait". On July 31, 2019, I went to the License Bureau thinking I was all set to renew my tags for my 2017 Chevy but did not have the emission test paperwork. I did an online search for emission testing and found Speedemissions. The name implies that they were fast. I drove to their location and saw that both their bays were empty so I pulled up to one. A gentleman came out and told me I couldn't park in front of the bays. I explained to him that I only needed an emission test. He told me I would have a 3 and a half hour wait. I called Azar Automotive and they worked me into their schedule and had the emission test done within an hour. Should have called them first! read more

The wait took a lot longer than you would except from a place with "speed" in the name. They failed our car for a leak in the muffler. After taking our car to TWO other mechanics, nobody was able to find any problem at all with the muffler and the car passed inspection no problem. Bad business, would NOT recommend. read more

I just stopped by this business at about 11 AM on a Saturday morning. The basis of this business is quick safety and emissions tests. There were no cars in the bays so I thought I would be in good shape to get in and out relatively quickly. I asked the employee at the counter about how long it would be. His response was that it would be about an hour and a half. I was surprised and said "oh is there no inspector here right now?" His response was that he was the inspector and he was also running the counter. I have used these businesses before and found them to always be relatively prompt and efficient. I waited 2 hours for a simple emissions test. I witnessed the only employee on-site serviced multiple vehicles of people who came in after me before getting to mine. I asked him about this and he said they were all waiting longer than I was. Which I'm certain isn't true, but even if it was, if the wait at "SpeedEmissions" was going to be over 2 hours, that's something I should have been told before I sat down.
