So my wife and I decided to visit Speers for the first time to celebrate our anniversary. Overall the atmosphere is great and the waiter was very good! But they just could NOT cook my filet to a nice 'Rare+'. The first time was mid-rare+ and the second time it was medium well. They offered to cook a 3rd steak. But by then all the side dishes were cold... Everything that was brought to the table was of high quality flavor-wise!! Everything was a bit over-priced as well, especially for the quantity of food received. While they did give us an adjustment to the bill for the poor cooking of the filet.... You don't expect the 2nd steak to be poorly cooked as well- especially at an upscale place. It felt like they are "trying" to be more of a fine dining establishment ...but they are missing the mark with that. Also, the great service by the waiter ended when I sent the first steak back.... Almost like I ruined his evening? He stopped attending to us?? Not sure what that was about? All in all. Good food, high priced, good atmosphere.... But We probably won't be back as there are better options! read more

The food did not justify the high cost . My son ordered a tomahawk steak and there was not a great deal of meat on the large bone for $110 . I realize that this place is new, but they really need to get their service and product organized. We went there for drinks on a sat around 5 pm. The place looks really nice. Very comfortable bright and sleek. But, I ordered an old fashioned drink. The lady bartender did not ask what bourbonI would like... she just gave me a house bourbon. And, the old fashioned did not come with z cherry or a twist of orange. When I asked about the cherry they said they did not carry any. And the drink was made with crushed ice. Huh? My wife ordered a Dewers on the rocks. Could not mess that up. But they charged us for a double. Ok I thought... they are new. So on my way out I offered some constructive input on my experience to the manager who was out front. His response was rather indifferent. I have also heard from friends who went there recently. The place ran out of mashed potatoes in one instance and in another the steak was way off in correctly cooked. And they got charged $11 for some sort of bottled water. I may give them a second chance in a few months IF they are still operating. But for now, I would stay away. read more

I've been there twice since it opened. The decor is fantastic. They put a lot of money into this place and it reflects what they spent. The food is very good and so are the drinks though neither are cheap. I understand that they will be rotating the menu every so often and the service was terrific. I enjoyed my dinner there. I had a crab cake appetizer which was very very good. The halibut dinner was tasty. The biscuits were unique and very good. Had the Chocolate mousse for dessert - loved it. I know it's a new place and working out the kinks. The actual menu was very big and I had no place to set it down when I was done looking at it. Filet was full of fat. Chicken was dry. It took incredibly long to receive our food. As a positive, the atmosphere was very nice.

If you are accustom to Hyde Park, Capital Grille, Eddie V's don't waste your time and money at this place. Example the oil for dipping tasted terrible (not pleasant) the bread was not that of a high-end steakhouse. Details of the food being poor is too much to write. Our server Magee was phenomenal. He was so personable and attentive to our needs. Make sure to ask for him when you visit. The food was good. Hopefully a few tweaks in kitchen staff and the food will be as good as our service from Magee. read more

I've been 4 times and had 4 very different experiences ranging from terrible service and mediocre food to excellent service and the best steak I've ever had. We had the steak tartar, wedge salad, crab cakes, Wagyu, broccolini and pumpkin cream puffs. We also had lemon drop martini and basil Hayden burbon. Drinks were good. Steak tartar great, wedge salad was good but it was butter lettuce not iceberg lettuce. Crab cakes were not good. Looked good but had a fishy taste. Hubby loved the wagyu steak. The service was ok. I mentioned I didn't care for the crab cake hence only eating half one, it came with 2. I paid for a meal I didn't like. The desert was good. Nothing special about this place. Don't bother. 7:00 reservation. Seated immediately. Waitress was very nice. From there it was downhill. Waited for at least 30 minutes for our cocktails. Then she took our entrees. Bread was stale. Finally got our food at 9:15 after we found out they were out of an entree. My food and another of my party had to be returned because it was cold. When they brought them back it still wasn't right. One of my parties entree was rare and not medium. In fact it was raw. Couldn't eat it. As we were sitting there there were other parties that I noticed that had left because of not getting their entrees in a reasonable time. Speer's needs to get their act together or they will be closed within 6 months. The back of the house needs to be given a lesson on how to cook. Everything was either bland or too salty or watered down ( the soup). Will never return. I'd give less than one star if I could read more

We had dinner at Speers last evening. Service by Ron was excellent. Filets were cooked to liking but very over salted, lobster was inedible and potatoes lacked flavor. My drink was very good but my husband's was not. He tried the old fashioned first and it was made wrong, he then tried an espresso martini and it was very strong. This establishment, albeit new, still has some growing pains to overcome. When I entered, I was met with a very energetic individual and lead to my seat. I don't know if it was due to large cramped or short staffed, but it took a bit to get even my water filled. But, once that occurred, I was able to review my menu for a truly anticipated meal. I ordered shrimp cocktail, wagyu steak crab Oscar style. The sides, being family style, I only ordered the lobster mushroom risotto and potatoes au gratin. I was enjoy my cocktail and a plate of rosemary focaccia bread, along with a dish mixed with a small bowl of "14 seasonings" was dumped on the plate, along with a very small splash of olive oil. Once the shredded (I believe it was Parmesan) was added and the compote was mixed, I decided to try. To me, the mixture seems more hidden behind the very salty focaccia bread, or the mixture itself was salty. Either way, it was too bad. Now, unless this is the norm or a fluke, I would suggest being careful making a reservation after 7pm. Why? You run the risk of the kitchen running out of items. First it was shrimp cocktail, then, a desert. I'm jumping the gun, but, at these prices, one would hope the words, "we are out" rears its ugly head by their wait staff. With that said, my dinner arrived and I have to admit, this was the FIRST time I had Wagyu steak. As it lay in front of me, something didn't seem right. I asked if it was Oscar style as I ordered (for an up charge) and was informed it was. Now, in all my years, whether made by scratch or by hand, Oscar style consists of a nice creamy yellowish bit of heaven called Béarnaise sauce. This, however? Included crabmeat (cold) that I had to dig out of a shell and, after some investigating, seemed to be melted butter (if you can even call it that). It almost seemed like lard as there was no taste. Either way, I was wondering if my waitress either got my order wrong or the kitchen may want to read up on Béarnaise sauce recipes. But that wasn't the main issue....for my first time Wagyu experience, I was truly underwhelmed. The plate was definitely hot to the touch, but the steak was like warm with the center rather cold. For an $80+ piece of meat, I expected perfection. But, at the risk of sending back (we all know the rumors), I plugged away like a good solider. The meat wasn't bad at all. But, to be honest, a good ol' ribeye would have done the job (but...alas...they were SOLD OUT of that too). The sides were delicious with the risotto and potatoes au gratin being my definite choice. After completing my meal, it was desert time. I think the "we don't have" list was longer than the "what we have" list. But, once I finally heard what I liked, I ordered the chocolate mousse. When it arrived it was in a small dish with these ribbons of whipped cream I suppose. When I tried it, it was more like sour milk. But thankfully? The taste of the mousse offset the sour taste. Overall? I think Speers Steakhouse is a restaurant that could be an "up and comer" to the area. In the meantime, there seems to be a lot of kinks to be sorted out before this critic returns. It was good for a one stop try, but to make it a repeat venue, maybe letting it settle like many restaurants at that same location, may be the key. The service staff was wonderful, and having to deal with delivering being understocked on items, you have to give them a lot of credit. Until my next review , that's just my point of view. read more

Everything was fantastic! Drinks, food and happy hour at the bar made for a great evening. Our bartender/server was quick and attentive. We've been a few times and have always had a great experience. This place is awful. Don't let the employee/friends reviews fool you. The food is WAY OVERPRICED. Portions are small and the staff has no business working at a place that serves an $80 NY strip steak. The bartender is a particular joke, I think forgetting that he's 60 years old and can't even do his menial job (not to disparage the good mixologists that are out there, but this guy couldn't make a good vodka on the rocks). I had three lunches scheduled there over the next month. all have been shifted to other locations. My guess is the place will be closed in a year. read more

This place has great potential but they are not ready for prime time yet. Two of the 3 tomahawks we ordered were done fine, the other was drastically overcooked. All we got for that was I'm sorry. Also, I never received a tomahawk steak without the bone. We ordered it sliced as our table was sharing. They advised against that but did it for us anyway. We ordered 3 of them and none of them came with the bone. So I can only assume they gave us a regular ribeye. Last, they are charging New York City prices for a mediocre steakhouse. The bar is limited on what they have, nothing high end. Again, not ready for prime time. I hope this place gets their act together because it has tremendous potential. Good luck. read more

We went for Happy Hour and had the Wagyu sliders. They were delicious. Our drinks were made perfectly and the bartender, Magee was so attentive and charismatic. The bar area was very comfortable with a relaxed atmosphere. I definitely recommend you give Speers Steakhouse a try and ask for Magee. read more

Seeing that we love Breakneck and the Kaufmann Tavern (so much that we had our rehearsal dinner there) we had high hopes for Speers seeing the same owner is proprietor of all 3 properties. We were deeply disappointed in Speers. The food was nothing to write home about and served at a cold to medium temperature. No flavor or anything. We also had a reservation for 6:30pm and we didn't leave the establishment until 8:30-8:45pm. The kitchen was very slow and no one had food except appetizers on their tables. For the low quality of the meal, lack of taste of the food and how long it took -$220+ for two of us after taxes and tip all said and done -we probably won't be back. I hate saying it but the franchise steak houses are doing better. If this restaurant group wants to survive -it needs to be like Breakneck or Kaufmanns as the local tavern. Trying to be The Capital Grille isn't working. The one thing that was bright was our servers were very professional-Liam the host was super kind and our waiter Andrew was very kind. Salad-eaters may not be interested in eating at steakhouses, but they should add Speer's to their favorites list. I had the Duck Breast salad last night and it was delicious. Ranks right up there with one of the best restaurant salads I have had. It was a huge salad and had so much flavor. The duck was good-I liked that it was not covered with all kinds of additions to add flavor, so I could taste the duck. Vegetarians can easily ask for duck on a different plate then give to others at table. The waiter was excellent, the restaurant was quiet, and we were not rushed. Will definitely return. read more

I was in on Friday evening. We sat in the bar area. I must say the bartender, Magee was simply fabulous. He recommended wine for us and it was spot on with what we wanted. He is fast (we were here before and the other bartender was extremely slow), so fun to talk to and most importantly, he knew how to make a drink (unlike our last experience there). Arrived at Speers at 6:45 for a 50th Birthday party, party of thirteen! Waiter by the name of Tanner was prompt & excellent in explaining all of the dinner menu! We ordered the Seafood tower & around 12-14 appetizers! After getting our drinks & appetizers we were told they were out of filets, which 11 in our party ordered, it took them a 90 minutes to let us know no filets in the restaurant! we ask could you at least see if you had at least one filet for the Birthday person, & they said no, none in the restaurant! There was a party of 2 that had arrived long after we did, & they bring him out a filet, they felt so bad hearing the conversation offered the steak to the Birthday person! Mangement denied him getting a filet till we pointed it out to them, of course they were speechless! They offered us a 20 percent discount, but when the check arrived NO discount! They did end up taking the appetizers off! Sorry Speers you just lost some great customers! BTW owners have not returned phone message! read more
