Stopped by Speer's Market while in Guerneville and grabbed a veggie sandwich, some chips, and ollipops. Prices were on the higher side, but honestly, that makes sense given you're in the middle of nowhere. The sandwich took a little longer than expected, but it was so worth it--they really layered and stuffed it up with goodies. Definitely not a skimpy sandwich! We took ours down to the river and it was perfect for that kind of day. The market has those cute small-town vibes, with locals chatting up the staff, and the service was super friendly. I've been stopping at this market every time I come in to the Russian River Valley for 20+ yrs. The deli counter is most popular as many grab a sandwich for their River float which starts just a tiny walk away at Steelhead Beach. Also a hit for softball teams playing at the Youth Park or over at El Molino HS. You often will see them grilling the trip tip out front for their sandwich special. Lots of wine snack options like cheeses and meats. Decent selection of fresh produce and nuts. They always surprise me with something local like jams, eggs or baked items so I walk all the aisles to see what is new. They really do have everything if you're dining in while on vacation. Also a perfect place to pick up forgotten items like sunscreen and sunglasses. In an area where shopping is sparse they are an absolute gem. read more

Shot in the dark hunting to try a new sandwich shop and this little market was busy at the deli counter with 4 ladies making sandwiches for the lunch rush. There was quite a wait (15 people in front of us) and more coming in after. Hubby got the pastrami I got a veggie (no olives), sub lettuce for sprouts, add turkey with smoked cheddar on rye. This sandwich was loaded with everything!! Veggies crisp, good quality meat ... next time I'll get on a roll. Hubby loved the Ruben - he highly recommends, but wants to try something else next time. Gentleman at register super friendly and pleasant. We did get the potato salad ($10lb) it's made in house but very bland. Would skip this. read more

The sandwiches at the deli here were exactly what we wanted! and priced just fine. We'd stopped at someplace deli-ish in Guerneville first that had nothing but pre-designed gourmet options (and no pricing info on their menu, who does that?) -- but my husband and I really just wanted a pure deli sandwich where we could say exactly what we wanted on it. Thankfully, we found Speer's. These were great. Bread was fresh (oh how I love a place with light rye!), as were all the ingredients. Stopped back in later after a walk for an Its-It. Friendly staff. This review is only for the deli counter which was fantastic, as were all the friendly ladies making our sandwiches. I wish I'd taken a picture of my gigantic veggie sandwich. It was a thing of love and beauty with great Dutch crunch bread, ample avocado and all the rest. You'll just have to trust me on that because after cradling it like a baby, it went into the cooler and was eaten at our lunch stop along the river. Half a sandwich was plenty, so consider sharing if you can agree on the same thing. The rest of the market may have been great, or not. The only annoying thing was that they wouldn't let me use their restroom after 75 minutes in the car drinking my coffee. The meatball sandwiches includes giant meatballs and a hard sourdough bread held up well soaking in all the marinara. We found the perfect Deli! This Deli find is located at the crossing of Mirabel and Trenton roads in -Forestville -cleverly located in the heart of the Russian River wine country. We stopped in on our way to the coast! So impressed with the selections-Fresh Homemade soups, Potato and Macaroni salads, and various side delights. However, and most importantly -this deli has an impressive array of specialty sandwiches . We ordered both the famed Reuben pastrami and turkey sandwiches on sourdough bread and the orzo and cold slaw side salads. All absolutely delicious! My $11 Rueben sandwich was far less impressive as a sandwich I could make at home. My fiancé was so shocked when she picked it up, she took and sent a photo to me to prepare me for the reality. First off-im forestville local... Been going to speers for 14 years. The new owners are absolutely blessed. They are making this market so so so much more evolved. I have child.,.. and the produce is super important to me... They are getting that covered and from wine to meats and dry goods to dog food!!! I am so happy this place is independent and right In town. Its a total total stop by after work and just a special spot for the local forestvillieans! A great little local market either for the deli counter or if you're missing some cocktail ingredients or a piece of produce for dinner that night on the way back home. There's something positive to say about pretty much every part of the store even from a non-resident - the sandwiches are very good, as are the house-made cold salads (the macaroni salad is a favorite), they have nice local produce, with me recognizing stuff like the organic daikons as seemingly being the same crop sold at farmer's markets in the county, and they have a pretty nice selection of essentials, although at the usual small-town market markup. They also have much better meats than even big chains like Safeway, with their seafood and beef being decent quality stuff. While you'll pay a little more for it, there's not much day-to-day grocery wise you can't pick up here, but it's worth stopping in just for a ham sandwich or a breakfast burrito if you're hungry. read more

We were lucky enough to be able to get lunch around 2PM on a weekend that started out with a rainy morning. When we phoned initially at 12:45, the place was slammed and there was a 20-minute wait to get sandwiches made at the deli counter. When we phoned again one hour later, everything had quieted down. Good timing: the finishing touches were being put on both just as we arrived. For $10.99, you get a heck of a lot of sandwich. (I ordered the Italian, with everything on it.) Although I consider myself to be a member of the Clean Plate Club, I was able to eat only half of my sando during what I considered to be the tail end of my lunchtime. (I saved the other half for a late-afternoon snack after I returned home.) And the sandwich was very tasty -- let's not forget that! The quality/price and quantity/price ratios at Speer's are both exceptionally high. Frankly, I would have been a lot happier if Speer's had had some picnic tables near the store and a working restroom on the property. Because neither condition was satisfied, you can consider my 5-star rating to have been rounded up from 4 1/2 stars. read more

I'm really here to write a review for the deli, but I'll add in a bit about the store as a whole at the end. This is my favorite place out of all the delis in the nearby towns to get a sandwich. Most other places are hit or miss, but this place has showed a lot of consistency! The deli has a bunch of different options for things to put on a sandwich. Great for stopping on the way to the beach! The produce department is nice, 98% organic last I checked, which is very much appreciated. The grocery and chill depts confuses me a bit. There is a decent selection, but they also have a lot of obscure specialty items that take up valuable real estate on the shelf in my opinion. I work in a grocery store, and every time I go in there I am overcome with a desire to overhaul these departments. Overall, its a nice little store and I hope it continues to serve our community and that they will flourish in the future. :) read more
