But I couldn't help myself to write this review because the customer service was the best I ever had on a grocery store, at least in the past decade Gary-Michael made my day, although they were super busy and most likely short handed, once he started helping us, you forget all that , because he has such a funny, beautiful, friendly personality. I bet he gets a lot of compliments from customers. If the Safeway at Guerneville see this I hope they let him know and recognize how wonderful it is to have such employee. They'll waste as much of your time as humanly possible. There's never more than a single cashier, and half the self checkouts will be left off. Even when they expect you to do their jobs for them they make you wait as though your time is worthless. The few staff who are around are usually rude if they even bother interacting with you. There's zero chance the majority of these mutts are service animals, they're just being walked by inconsiderate morons who Safeway let get away with it. This review is mainly for their sushi selection, which is surprisingly good. We tried their regular California rolls and the Chef Sampler (salmon and ahi tuhi). Delicious! The sushi chef/preparer was friendly, professional, and rightly proud of the fresh selections. This was our go-to spot for restroom and lunch breaks from working out in the area for two weekends. The bathrooms were okay, but I've seen cleaner restrooms at other Safeways. They should provide air freshener spray. They also need more cashiers. Their lines were long, and one of the workers guided us to the self-checkout line. I didn't feel like scanning our food and drinks, but went anyway. read more

On the way to visit Amstrong Redwood park, we stopped by this Safeway to get some food and use the restroom. Food: my mother-in-law got some sushi. It was okay. Not bad but not amazing so something you'd expect from Safeway. Produce looked decent to me. Service: we didn't interact with anyone and we used self-checkout so I can't comment much about customer service Ambiance: this Safeway has lots of parking. Inside seems a little small and old. Not the worst but in general, just okay. Restroom: restrooms from a grocery store is usually not super clean and this one isn't an exception. They have 2 restrooms for both men & women, way in the back (if you're near the self-checkout, just go straight to the back and you'll see it). I'm not sure how clean they were but the look of the restrooms themselves and the surrounding made me feel they were dirty. Safeway could improve this for their employees too. read more

it's safeway... it has groceries i guess. I'm a new local and i asked if they could carry the vegan cream cheese i use frequently because the multiple vegan options they have all suck. I actually think the brand i use would sell well so it would be a win win... the lady i spoke to was very dismissive and never got back to me. They're regularly out of items for weeks at a time I'm assuming whoever does the orders is slacking. I prefer to find locally owned stores to support like olivers, or even whole foods because they have much better customer service. Now the real issue, i have a friend/roommate who has worked here since moving to town, so I've heard enough about how they treat their employees to basically boycott the store unless i absolutely need something. Mind you this employee is also my care provider, not only do i know how much the management doesn't care at all about the wellbeing of their employees... i also see how they don't care about their other jobs... when my friend applied to work their it was because i suggested finding a SECOND job to not be only working from home, they have since scheduled for just under full time not being mindful at all of the FIRST job. They also have failed to accommodate health needs and forced departments to remain open despite lack of adequate staff. This store should be closed and replaced by a locally owned grocery store... this town is too small and peaceful to need safeway. read more

I don't even know where to begin. This is the worst Safeway anywhere. Numerous times have been over charged, vegetables spoiled, meat with expired dates. But, today was the worst. They made several mistakes on checking out , overcharging, not giving us our 10% discount on our groceries. The cashier said, oh sorry I forgot to apply your discount. And then telling my husband she would have to redo everything again. My husband said forget it, but when I looked at the receipt I realized we were over charged by $20! So, we had her redo the whole thing. She said the original bill would not be posted to our bank. Guess what? It was. I decided to call the Manager . This is for the younger guy that works at the deli. He ALWAYS makes a crazy good sandwich when you order from him and always puts on the perfect amount of everything. Really really good sandwiches. How you know that you have this guy waiting on you is 1. He's about 25ish. 2. When you ask for something he always responds with a smile, as well as saying "awesome" or "yea" or "yea that sounds good". If he is not there, I usually forget about getting a sandwich, and get a pint of the Chinese Chicken Salad. Which is pretty darned good too. read more

Popped in for a quick shop of essentials- water, firewood, crab legs, scallops and oysters.... Like I said, "essentials." Found everything we were looking for, as well as a few extra items we didn't necessarily need (like chocolate and more wine). The cashier's were curtious and everyone (staff and shoppers) was masked and respectful of maintaining personal boundaries. I have had very pleasant experiences coming into Safeway recently due to the checker Gary Michael! He is friendly, optimistic, and pleasant to chat with. He is genuine and personable in demeanor and chatting with him helps take the blow off the ever so high grocery prices. Today at Safeway store # 950 Don Whiaker (707)869-0613 Guerneville self check out was a big problem with me and my wife, we both used to different self check out .The Cashier went to me and my wife for the same problems with self check unit, the unit would not take our member numbers on two different units, at the same time. We never had problems with safe check out with any units for 5 yrs. This union worker woman consistently made problems for a simple transaction going very fast, that's not normal at Sabastopol CA store and others. I love unions that works. Please treat people with consideration and understanding and stay with customer to finish the transacton and complete your job. She cause my bank card to stop working for this weekend. She fabricated the problem for two people of color, shame on Safeway Corp. Remember we had two Cashier on board going to fast for seniors that may look young. I was just there and some guy was running around with Rush Limbaugh blaring on some device he was carrying. Anyone, mostly elderly people were there, who looked a him even if they didn't know what was playing, he glared at them. Daring them to say something I've seen employees tell summer visitors to use headphones or turn off their music. Not only did management saying nothing about loudly playing a personal audio device in the store, one of the butchers was encouraging him. First off this is not going to be your average Safeway. It's in west county and serves a large community that prefers things a certain way. A lot more things good for you than most Safeway's and a wine selection that will please a lot of snobs. People in gville can be and usually are the type of people who dance to the beat of a different drum. From poor old river folk to winery owners. They have only local employees who are really wonderful people of you take the time to get to know them. You will never not have a smile given you in return for yours. They have to deal with it all from dirty homeless adults to people who don't see them as humans because they work at a grocery store yet they still come in to work daily to provide a totally necessary service to the community at a usually lower wage. During this covid19 crisis they not only are working extra hard in a scary environment but they are doing their best to keep people from hoarding or being without essentials. I have to admit I would have quit if they required me to work during this time of quarantine. My ego can accept that those brace Safeway staff are better people than I am. read more

I got what was needed for our dinners in, beer, wine, and desserts without question would come back to this store. I see a lot of posts about long lines, when I went at 5pm on a Friday there was 3 people on the line in front of me. They are usually late. I have 7a-8p appointment, the first appointment of the day and they have already called to tell me they are running late. Couldn't even give me an estimated time. Last time they were late,they offered me a $25 discount on my next delivery. Well this is my next delivery. Not only are they late again but I did not get that credit. I expect more from Safeway and it is very disappointing that this is their customer service at work. I sent 3 emails to their customer service address and to date have not received a reply. When's the last time you went to a major national chain and said "holy shit they're literally out of half my shopping list?" And THEN somehow ended up spending up $200 even though they were out of tons of stuff? If this is an experience you've been missing in your life, stop on by!! Honestly pretty shocked about the condition of this Safeway. It was hard to navigate and cluttered. Low staffed. Dim. Had a general sense of decay and not well maintained. I went to the restroom and lord have mercy. I've been to nasty gas station bathrooms that were better maintained. The trash can was filthy. The floor sticky. Just nasty. I bought the 8 piece fried chicken. Was surprised to see it was all dark meat. Usually an 8 piece is 2 wings, 2 breasts, 2 thighs and 2 legs. It wasn't very good. Check out line was long. Only one regular line was opened plus express. It was noon on a weekday. Employees were smoking/vamping by front entrance. No big deal I guess. read more

We recently moved here from San Francisco and very happily surprised to see such a large, well stocked supermarket in such rural area. Prices are very reasonable, long hours for a small town. Staff is friendly. Have no idea where the reviews that are so critical are coming from- assume tourists expecting Whole Foods at Walmart prices? Wine prices and selection are great! Only wish would be a better selection of local organic produce. Better to hit the numerous farmers markets anyway. We are grateful for such a one stop shop! read more

Typically I wouldn't be writing a 5-star review for Safeway, let alone a review for any Safeway, but this little Guerneville Safeway totally deserves a shout out for their super friendly service! When the girls and I stayed in a cabin nearby last month, we came here to pick up basic necessities and snacks. We wanted to make salmon for dinner one night, and came by to pick some up. The selection was scarce. In fact, there was only one large fillet left. Clearly, not the best place to come for a good selection of fresh seafood. However, the guy who worked in the seafood section was so kind to accommodate our request of letting us take only half of it. We knew it was kind of a silly request, but it didn't hurt to try. After all, we didn't want to waste half a salmon! Then upon checkout, our flamboyant clerk Robert, chatted with us and told us about some hot guys who were visiting from SF that were staying in a big house nearby. He made sure to tell them about us when they returned. Cute! So, today, when we went back for a day trip to Johnson's Beach, conveniently located 2 blocks away, we stopped by Safeway to pick up some picnic food. We happened to get into Robert's line again, and he totally remembered us and asked if we ever met up with those guys. Unfortunately, we didn't, but he promised to let any other cute guys that we'd be at Johnson's Beach that afternoon and to keep an ear out for our names being called out. Too funny. Thanks Robert! Reiterating what Connie said - this Safeway is five stars due to their personable staff. Their seafood section was looking pretty limited by the time we stopped in here, during our previous Guerneville visit. It was late at night and most of the choice fish had been bought. We stared longingly at a huge slab of salmon, trying to figure out all of the ways we could make the most of a 20 dollar piece of fish. Luckily, Nicole was quick enough to ask the young man behind the fish counter if he could make the portion any smaller. He smiled kindly and in a couple of minutes had cut the salmon in half and gave us an outstanding deal on it. It was some of the best and most fresh tasting salmon I've had, since living in California. And of course - then there's Robert, at the checkout counter. Robert may fool you, with his reserved nature, but if you get him talking, his eyes light up, and he will spill all of Guerneville's hot secrets. If you're looking for love connections in Guerneville - find Robert's aisle. He'll make sure to tip off all the visiting cuties of your whereabouts, and will do so with pure Safeway sass. read more

So while I've had a couple instances of forgetting an item I ordered or having to reschedule because they miss the window due to drivers being sick, mostly these guys are awesome. I say this because the last two times I've been sick and haven't been able to leave the house they've hit it right on the mark and showed up dutifully with what I needed. Mine even let me tip them too, which apparently is not always the case. While I don't live on the third floor (because I rock, that's why ;) I do live in an area that's hard to find if you haven't been there a couple times, so the fact they find it and show up usually the first hour of the delivery window is tops to me. Their delivery guys are always friendly, I usually get everything I order (there's always the random out of stock on POM juice) and the best part is you can get it by the next day if needed.
