My children had been with Spencer and Spencer since 2009 one child aged out and my son who is now 13, we were fired as clients because we cancelled an appointment as we were out of town at which we were told was fine and to just call back and reschedule. I will be requesting a signed copy of the cancellation reschedule no show policy as I honestly feel that we were fired for another reason. My commercial insurance as well as myself have covered any expenses yet here we are fired. I'm okay with the decision however I will be seeking legal advice! read more

This is a long overdue review. My 8 yr old son literally said "Oh, I love this place!" when we arrived for a cleaning. The staff here always makes him feel cared for. We have been to the other location which is also stellar. Highly recommend this group: they take excellent care of their young patients, and worried parents. We've been going to Spencer & Spencer for years and I am continually pleased. They used to have a built in play area for kids including video games in the waiting room. With COVID restrictions they had to close that area but it's the thought that counts. Getting to play before the dentist visit helped ease my kids fears. They have TVs on the ceiling above the kids stations so they can watch movies during their cleaning. The hygienists are always nice and knowledgeable. The dentist is down to earth, caring and professional. She will also provide the appropriate referrals when she has a concern. read more

Potential patients beware! Just as the LSR-7 school district isn't what it was post covid, neither is Spencer & Spencer Pediatric Dentistry. After 10+ years as their patient, they have effectively refused to care for my children because of a past cancellation during the spring of 2021. To add to this, they continued to see my children in the summer of 2021 and allow me to book another appt for January 2022 at which time they refused to see my children citing spring 2021! If this is how they treat their long standing patients, I can assure you, NO GRACE WILL BE GIVEN TO ANY NEW PATIENT! I am a business professional and certainly understand the business side of things, but the lack of understanding for a long existing patient is not the place I will continue to take my children. read more

Working Mom of 3 here. Was running a bit behind after hitting morning traffic for my child's appointment. I called to see if that would be a problem, I was informed that as long as I wasn't more than 15 minutes late we could still be seen. I checked in 12 minutes late and was informed our appointment was cancelled. I explained I called, I was informed from the snooty front desk clerk she didn't know who I spoke with but it wasn't her. I understand an appointment schedule is important but can you not give a Mom a break? 12 minutes... I wait much longer each time we have been here to see a doctor. I really enjoyed our experience at this clinic. My kids are both terrified of going to the dentist, but when I took them to see Dr. Spencer their experience was great. My 3 year old and my 9 year old were visibly comfortable and felt safe with the staff. The office is extremely kid friendly and the whole staff is kind. When I asked about the X-rays, they were explained to me thoroughly. I will be keeping with this practice. read more

Normally good service and no issues, but recently ran into an issue where they billed incorrectly for a filling/tooth check as a limited visit instead of a tooth check, which caused a cleaning visit to be rejected. Insurance said their office had incorrectly billed using the wrong code and suggested their office would need to file an amended claim because it should have been billed as a tooth related visit instead of a limited visit, which gets elevated to the level of a full exam, which insurance only allows two per year. The office seemed helpful at first, but later became very rude about their mistake and refused to correct their mistake without apology. We always had paid on time without any problems over several years doing business with their office, but this last visit they rudely mentioned that they wouldn't even see our other child for a filling without paying up front for the amount caused by their billing error as well as the projected bill after insurance for the filling that was to be done. Most surprising was Jodie, who I had known from college and was trying to bring business her way, having the audacity to suggest my passing along what the insurance company said their office would need to do to correct their billing mistake seemed like insurance fraud to her. Have been going to them for years and got along well with them; but treated very poorly like a good loyal customer means nothing to them. After this terrible experience, will not be recommending their office to anyone else, and will be checking into other providers who care about their customers. read more

This place charged $160 to fill a level 1 cavity on my 4 year old. There are 3 levels....I don't even think level one was necessary. But we agreed... Better be safe than sorry even if baby teeth. So they take xrays and don't even show them to us. They tell my wife to leave the room while they put nitrous to my son. 7 mins later my son is standing in waiting room ready to go. They then charged another $50 for the nitrous. When my wife asked why we were not shown xrays...the receptionist said she could go hunt them down and show us. My wife said that isn't your job but should be the dentist so he can explain. They looked at her like she's crazy. So they then send us a letter saying they will not be able to see my son for any reason in 3 weeks because they couldn't fulfill our expectations. I found it cocky of them to "drop" us because our "High Expectation" of wanting the dentist and not the receptionist to read xray. I informed them proper professional courtesy is for them to automatically read them and we should not have to ask for them. These people are very cocky and would never go back or recommend anyone go there....esp if your expectation is to be respected personally and professionally. read more

My daughter had fallen and broken her teeth on a Saturday. She is one year old. It was a longshot but I Facebook message to Spencer and Spencer pediatric dentistry on a Sunday morning and was surprised that I got a quick response. They squeezed us in Monday morning and didn't excellent job with a one-year-old in pain. I have now started taking for your old there as well. Excellent service and caring attitude. read more

I attempted to call and make an appointment. The first person I talked with told me that they couldn't make an appointment for the next 4 months because at this point their patient list was full. I said ok, that stinks but I'll go ahead and do that. Then she said hold on, put me on hold and then hung up on me. I called back and attempted again. That lady told me the same thing, I said that's fine I'll make an appointment then. She said if you want to look at a different office that would be fine with us, I felt that was very cocky. I said that's ok, I'll go ahead and make an appointment. She said to me "Well we really aren't taking new patients and don't really need new ones right now" I said ok, that is fine please pull me out of your system since I just completed all the paperwork online since that's what I was told to do before making an appointment. This group was HIGHLY recommended via multiple friends. I'm so disappointed in their customer service. I was willing to wait like they offered but then when I said ok, they didn't want to schedule me. Must be nice to not need new clients, but you could be kinder in explaining things and not make me feel like my kid isn't important. read more

I would NOT recommend this practice. I was referred here for my daughter's oral surgery by our regular dentist; however, upon entering the practice on Highway 40 in Independence, the receptionist and EXTREMELY RUDE. Instead of a "Hello" I received an angry "What are you here for?" when I already made an appointment over the phone. Once in the back, as Jandk M. indicated, my daughter's xrays weren't even explained to me. I was just sent on my way. Then on the way out, I was informed that there was three month wait in order to schedule an appointment; however, if I paid in full they could squeeze me in to an earlier opening. So I decided to use my Care Credit Card to pay for the amount; however, the card wouldn't go through. I informed Lindsey, the receptionist, that it SHOULD go through because it's activated and there should be no problem. Instead of her calling Care Credit, she made ME call. After calling Care Credit in the waiting room, I informed Lindsey that SHE had to call them for authorization. After getting her end resolved, I payed the full amount BEFORE the surgery and scheduled a date. I also chose to get a call if there was a cancellation. A week before the appointment, I got a call that there was an earlier spot open so I decided to take it. However, I informed them that my husband would be taking my daughter in for her surgery instead of me. Come the day of surgery, the first thing out of LIndsey's mouth was "What do you want?" when my husband walked in with my daughter. After that "warm" welcome, she informed him that she was NOT on the schedule and for him to leave. So my husband told her that she better check because he was not going to be coming back. Five minutes after he left, I receive a call that my daughter had her oral surgery appointment. After three missed calls, they were smart enough to figure out that the man who brought my daughter was my husband and called him instead. At that point, he had already fed her since she did not eat since midnight the night before; thus, when he took her back they denied her her surgery because she already ate. At that point, my husband told them to just give us our refund since he were the ones who screwed up everything. And not surprisingly, Lindsey blamed my husband for the screw up when it was due to her incompetence and lack of communication to the anesthesiology team. What was worse was Lindsey told us we could come in Monday to pick up our refund check. When I went, there was no check. She even had the guts to tell me that it should be no problem for me to come back around noon since I only lived around the corner. It wasn't until my husband and I appeared again that they handed us our check. They didn't even let us enter the building that day. They were so unprofessional and scared of our actions that they handed us our check outside of their door. From a doctor to another doctor, this is the most UNPROFESSIONAL team of pediatric dentists I have seen or met. From their nonchalant dentists to their unprofessional, rude, and stupid receptionists, if I could I would NOT even give this place ONE STAR. It was a waste of my time and money spent there. The business is shady and the lack of courtesy is just shocking. I can see why the other pediatric dentist I took my daughter to just laughed at their lack of customer service. read more
