    Lamb Biryani

The lamb biryani was good! Great portion sizes especially for the price. The seasoning was good, pretty straightforward biryani! Would definitely come back.

Butter Chicken (24oz) basmati rice and butterfly earring

I've been eating here for years- ordering delivery while at work and picking up dinner. Today I picked up butter chicken at 1 p.m. on the way home and due to my schedule I didn't get to eat until now. Luckily I hadn't eaten this. Just a little disappointed that someone lost an entire earring and didn't say anything. Food was delicious- glad I noticed this before it damaged any dental work.

Great place for takeout. It can be a little pricey but they give larger portions so we usually get 2 meals from an order. We love the Paneer Makhani and Vegetable Korma. We were sad when the Vegetable Korma was removed from the menu. There a plenty of Vegetarian options and service is fast.

Used to have a lot of sauce and was delicious. Not anymore

Not sure what they did to the paneer kadai but please change it back! Used to order the same dish for 5 years almost weekly. I'll keep checking back after a month or so to test. The recipe and the portions have gotten worse and I probably will not order again.

Paneer tikka masala, Plain Samosa and Mango Lassi

Came here for dinner after getting ash last Wednesday and found so many great vegetarian options. We ordered way too much - paneer pizza, samosas, tikka masala rice bowl, gulab jamun and a mango lassi. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and the cute little spot has indoor and outdoor seating for you to enjoy your meal there.

Nice quick quality meal. BEWARE if you are allergic to nuts. Some of the sauces are made with nuts. The butter chicken was almost $19 and came with a side of rice and naan. If you wanted garlic naan it is an additional $1 up charge. The butter chicken was so flavorful. Very tasty. The build your own veggie bowl was about $14. Lots of flavor as well. It was tasty as well. Over all we will be back

The food was decent. Biryani isn't authentic biryani but pulav with corns, beans, onions served with raita. Raita is reallly tasty. Good option if you are craving for Indian food. Vada pav was also not just a bun with potato tikki in between. It was okay. Pavs were not soft. It was hard to chew.

    Kabob bowl w/paneer

Came here for the first time for dinner on a weeknight with a friend. I ordered the kabob bowl with paneer and veggies as sides, which also came with half a piece of naan bread. Total came out to approximately $15. What's hot - Menu. Pretty simple and straightforward. It's not an extensive menu, but there appears to be something for everyone- meats vegetarian, and I think vegan. As I explain below, their menu is more westernized, but it's not a bad thing. This may not be as ethnic as real Indian food, but they don't hide the fact that they're westernized. - Quality. Pretty delish. Again, it's not the most ethnic Indian food, but it's pretty good. My paneer was pan fried and somewhat seasoned, so it was pretty tasty. My friend really likes their naan pizza and it looked pretty tasty, too. - Price. Not bad. It's less than $20 for one person, which isn't bad. However, if you're hungry and/or with a group of people, be prepared to pay more to share. - Portions. Pretty decent size portions for one. - Health and safety. All the staff I saw wore face masks. During this time of the pandemic, when things are still uncertain, it's reassuring seeing businesses, that interact with the people, take precautions. What's not - Portions. Surprisingly, I wasn't full after finishing my food. My point is to be prepared that these aren't generous portions, which is important to be aware of when you're hungry, especially if you're in a group and/or sharing food. - Quality. It's not true ethnic Indian food. After all, there's naan pizza, which appears to be popular and looks delicious. To be fair, it's not bad, but if you're looking for really good ethnic Indian food, this place isn't for you. For example, my food didn't taste well-seasoned and flavorful as ethnic Indian food should be. - Price. For almost $16, it's not the greatest exchange for value. Final answer Willing to come back. It's not my first choice for ethnic Indian food, but it's good Indian food with an American twist and is dependable.

Yum. This food looks and tastes amazing. Easy to order and food comes out quick. I recommend this to anyone in the College Park/Hyattsville area.

I don't know what to have expected because I'm gonna be honest I haven't had Indian food ever in the 30 years of living. But with that being said the way Indian food is always described, it seems that it should have a certain essence of spice and flavor which I felt was lacking both. I feel that the dish was a good portion size and that everything was just OK. The garlic naan lacked the flavor of garlic except for the few rubs on the bread unevenly. It was chewy and warm upon arrival but just wasn't what I expected. I'm not an Indian food connoisseur but I feel that this place is only as good as chipotle being good to the Hispanic cultures. When I try dishes from other countries I wanna taste the essence of just that as if I'm there. But not to be dramatic it's a chain Indian restaurant and would I eat here again, yea sure but gonna try to find an authentic Indian spot first

I came here for lunch with a friend. Like many Indian places, they do shut-down between lunch and…read moredinner. They close at 3pm and reopen at 5pm. We were headed to Amber Spice for a late lunch, and fortunately, we made it in before the 2:45pm cutoff (I called ahead to check). Since it was almost lunch closing, they did request that we place our orders soon after being seated. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we didn't feel rushed otherwise. We started with the veggie samosas ($6, two pieces), which were served with the traditional tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro chutney. The samosas were packed with the potato and pea filling and had a lightly crisp exterior. They were as good as any. For my entree, I ordered the butter chicken ($20), which is served with a side of basmati rice. When ordering, the waiter didn't ask about spice level. I did find their butter chicken to have some heat to it, but it wasn't anything crazy - I'd say a 3/10 for spiciness - I felt the warmth. The chicken was super tender and moist. I would be happy getting this again. I also ordered the garlic naan ($5), because you have to have something to sop up the curry goodness. The naan was hot and fresh; you could also taste the garlic. One basket came with four pieces (one whole naan), which is perfect for sharing. I finished the meal with the gulab jamun ($6) for dessert which came with three pieces of the fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup. My friend ordered the mango kulfi and loved it! She described it as a mango lassi, but frozen, which made it that much more light and refreshing. Amber Spice is a casual dining spot and it has the service to match. We were brought a carafe of water for the table to start, so it was self-serve the rest of the way. Food was brought out quickly and plates were cleared at the end, but we weren't checked on during the meal. Perhaps since we arrived near lunch closing, service was winding down, but we got what we needed. I enjoyed the food here and would come again. Everything that we had was not only super tasty, but also reasonably priced. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center.

Inside, the music wasn't too loud, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the experience. I definitely recommend making a reservation. We didn't have one, so we were offered a seat at the common table or outside. Since it was a beautiful day, we chose to sit outside. Our server was training someone, and they were both fantastic. They gave great recommendations and were attentive throughout the meal. The food came out at the perfect pace, and everything was delicious. We shared two small plates, along with the fried chicken sliders and the butter chicken. The butter chicken had the perfect amount of spice and was incredibly flavorful. There were two of us, and sharing four dishes was just the right amount of food. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be back!

We made a lunch reservation on OpenTable and made our way to the highly anticipated Chai Pani. Once we were seated, the waitress greeted us and asked if we had dined at Chai Pani before. Since it was our first time, she gave us an overview and explained that the dishes are great for sharing. They also had some specials - the magic masala tomato chaat and grilled swordfish were being featured. We started with the kale pakora chaat ($15) and SPDP ($13). We loved the kale pakora chaat! My standard for a kale chaat is Rasika's signature palak chaat. Chai Pani's kale chaat holds their own. This chaat is more frittery than loose kale pieces, which made it easier to serve and share with the group. The flavor and texture were on point. The addition of the grapes and melon seeds gave the dish more sweetness, freshness, and great presentation. I would definitely order this again. The SPDP (puffed puris) were yogurt-laden, which made them less appealing. When they were brought to the table, the waiter instructed us that they are meant to be eaten in one bite. I appreciate the instruction, but the puris are a little big (it would be easier to eat in two bites). I didn't really taste the other ingredients other than the puri shell overloaded with yogurt. For the entrees, we ordered the butter chicken ($22) and lamb kala masala ($34). Both came with a small bowl of jeera rice. The lamb shank was excellent! I've had the lamb shank at the Michelin-rated Rania, and Chai Pani's lamb shank is better! The meat was tender and moist. It fell off the bone - always a sign of great cooking. The butter chicken was solid but was not a standout dish. This curry definitely had some heat to it, but the portion felt small for the price. It had a smoky flavor to it and used white breast meat, so it was on the dry side. We also got a side of naan which was pretty standard but great for sopping up the curry. Service was kind and bubbly. It started out strong, but it waned as the meal went on. We were checked on when the starters came out, but not necessarily checked on when the mains came out. She was knowledgeable of the menu and did check if we wanted to order any more drinks. The table was set with a water carafe, so we were able to take care of our own water cup refills. Bottom line - I would come back here again. I think the chaats and street food dishes are where Chai Pani really shines, and the lively, upbeat ambiance adds to the enjoyment. Chai Pani is a lovely addition to the Union Market neighborhood - definitely check it out!
