To Celebrate EID I was looking for kabobs to devour. I was happy to see that this place was in the area. I checked the reviews and saw rave reviews from my Yelp friends. I think it was the owner ( man with a beard) was very welcoming. I ordered the ground beef kabob. It came with rice, salad, and naan. The owner offered us house made chai tea. Which was possibly the best chai I ever had. The kebab was soooo delicious. It was marinated in delicious middle eastern spices and made to order. The naan: perfecto! Salad; delicious! The sauce was new to me, but it was good. The rice: delicious, seasoned with carrot shredding, raisins... I wished I ordered more to go home. I recently visited this restaurant for a Yelp event and now I'm back again because the food was that good. I couldn't remember which days they have lamb specials & was hoping I stopped by on the right day, but I didn't. FYI, the lamb specials are on Monday, Thursday, and Friday. Since lamb wasn't an option, I ordered chicken kabob platter with a few substitutions. Instead of white rice I had qabuli pulao; it's rice with carrots & raisins. Those items may seem like an odd couple, but somehow it works & I'm a fan. Instead of salad, I had curry chickpeas. I don't pass up an opportunity to have curry chickpeas, and these were delicious. I could just eat the rice and the chickpeas as a meal itself if I wanted a meatless option. Instead of the regular naan bread, I opted for the garlic naan bread. When I got my order and saw how large it was, I thought this must be a mistake. This piece of bread was easily enough for four people. Slathered on top was this garlic herb butter. You can't go wrong with warm bread and garlic butter. Next time I'm asking for a side of butter so that I can dip the bread in it as well. You can never have too much butter. I washed everything down with a cup complementary chai. I think it's really sweet of them to offer a drink while you wait for your order. I would've gladly paid for that too. I've recently discovered this place, but it's definitely going in the rotation. I can't wait to try some other items on the menu. read more

Love Maiwand Kabob! When I saw a fellow yelper check in here, I immediately added it to my list. They're located in the East Gate shopping center in Greenbelt near Sobe and recently opened. I stopped in for a take-out order a few days ago. A nice employee greeted me and took the order. He offered complimentary chai tea! It was pretty empty at the time. There's plenty of seating and parking. I had the chicken kabob with a side salad. The food portions were generous but I didn't enjoy the salad - was bland and it had a weird tasting dressing. Everything else tasted good. I had to get the green sauce of course. I would possibly visit here again but not in a hurry! read more

The rice is well seasoned and has dates in that add some sweetness to cut the savoryness. The kabob was well seasoned and tender. Now I've seen this place multiple times when going to Columbia, Hanover, and other spots closer to Baltimore. This past Sunday I just happened to be in that particular shopping center because I was in the Giant looking for the exclusive Oreos. And from a distance it's a blur, but I was like that name looks familiar! When I got closer, I realized I was right, and I was like "ooooh!" I went on inside and there was only one other party in there. I had eaten not long ago so I wasn't really hungry, but I wanted to try something. I was going to go for some appetizers, but the specific ones I wanted weren't available -- they've barely been open a week. I ended up deciding on the veggie platter and it was really... really good. I will say that the potatoes weren't quite as flavorful as they looked, but otherwise I enjoyed every element of that meal immensely. I have to return and try some proper kabobs and I cannot wait! The restaurant was very clean and when I stopped in late on a Saturday evening, there was ample seating for dine in. Since they're located in a shopping center, there's plenty of parking available. The owner was nice, they had paper menus right at the register to assist with choosing what to order. He also made sure to confirm that what I ordered was what I planned, so I appreciated him double checking. I ordered the chicken sheesh kabob entree. I also ordered the spinach appetizer which was a great size for the price. The kabob entree came with aromatic rice, salad, naan, and a cilantro yogurt sauce. Everything was delicious, flavorful, and seasoned well. The entree was a great portion for the price. I'll definitely be back to try other items off the menu. I had been going to the Greenbelt location for months. My last order was just off. I was going to stop going but decided to share my disappointment with the staff. I called and was told to come back whenever and he would make it right. I came back a week later told them I had called and he said give him 15 minutes. He apologized and said I didn't own anything and thanked me for letting them know I had a problem. No arguing, no small discount no just replacing just part of the order. I used to work near Miawand Kebab in Elkridge, and the food there was always exceptional. Unfortunately, this location on Greenbelt Road was a completely different experience. I accidentally ordered a gyro platter instead of the gyro wrap--not a big deal, or so I thought. The meat was chopped into tiny pieces and completely dried out, which to me suggests it wasn't fresh. The rice was just okay, with a strong cinnamon flavor. The side salad wasn't very good either. I just moved to the neighborhood, but based on this visit, I won't be returning. read more

This place is less than five minutes away! That alone is worth one star. The seating is standard the shop is very well done and clean. I was excited to hear of this place, because it seems that you can only find good afghan food in VA. Unless you happen to be in the Detroit area. So lm rooting for this place. My Wife had the lamb kebab, while l got the gyro salad. The wife loved the lamb but found the rice to be so-so. The portions for both were generous so come hungry. They give you a huge amount of bread that is very good too. However for my salad, thumbs down. The deep fried the meat hard. which also means they don't have the roasting pit that you find in other places that offer gyros. I don't like to mess around with my gyros. They got to be tight bubba, and a hard cold gyro cooked to leather is not the way to approach this. Will l come again? The place is too close not to give it another try but Deep fried gyro meat? Delicious food - but not careful with food allergies. I am terribly ill after explaining that I have a gluten allergy and cannot have any gluten - I specifically said twice "no bread!" Then we saw him removing a bag of bread from the to go order. He reassured me that there was no cross contamination and everything would be safe - but my body is telling me different right now. Very ill. I have eaten safely at two other Maiwand Kabob locations - so hopefully some training will resolve the problem. read more

Ordered the lamb kabob, brown rice, falafel, fries, and salad. Everything was exceptional, I would say the falafel should come with more than just 4 pieces especially because it $11... but they weren't bad... I just wish there was more.
