I recently tried this Indian restaurant in Surrey as was craving proper Indian food and this one totally satisfied my expectations. The ambience is super nice and cozy with warm neutral lights inside and nice seating. It's quite spacious and big as well. The service is pretty good too and if you go on Saturday night you would have to wait for approximately 15 minutes as well. We ordered sev puri in appetizers which was really great in taste. It had perfect spice, and the filling of potatoes, curd and sev with pomegranate was commendable. For main ordered garlic naan, tandoori roti with kadhai paneer as curry . All of them were really delicious. Kadhai paneer was perfect in spice and taste and its curry was totally going with the paneer. Our final meal during our day trip to British Columbia was at Spice 72 Indian Restaurant & Lounge, and it was the perfect end to the day. The restaurant was easy to find, located inside a plaza with plenty of free parking. Surprisingly, it was busy on a Saturday night at 9PM, and we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table for three. During the wait, my sister and I, both first-timers to Indian cuisine, struggled to narrow down our choices. My boyfriend stepped in and consulted with our friendly waiter, who helped us choose a great spread: Plain Rice to share, (2) orders of Naan Breads, (2) Mango Lassis, Goat and Lamb Vindaloo, Tandoori Chicken (8 pieces), and Chicken Tikka Masala. The food was fantastic, with both the temperature and spiciness turned up to the max! The Naan Bread was a standout, a must-try with any meal, and my personal favorite was the Tandoori Chicken. The restaurant has a cozy, dimly lit atmosphere, perfect for a casual yet intimate dining experience. However, the music was quite loud throughout, which added a lively energy to the space. We were seated near the fireplace and a TV showing a hockey game, which was a bit too warm for us, especially since our food was already piping hot! The service was exceptional. Our waiter was not only attentive but also entertaining, making our experience even more enjoyable. I'd absolutely recommend Spice 72 for anyone craving authentic Indian food. I was not expecting this. I mean, I live in Delta. We have more Indian Restaurants per capita than India* (Just accept this statement as true, please). So that means I've had a lot of Indian food and been VERY disappointed over the years. But last weekend at an impromptu lunch with the advice of a friend who was born and raised in India, I stumbled into Spice 72 with the hus and we ordered a few things. And we were blown away. The first thing is it was literally 230 on a rainy Saturday and it was BUMPING. We were quickly seated and greeted by a young server. We said we wanted to try a couple of things and had heard good things. He recommended these: Corn Chops $16 Crunchy corn sticks, jalapeno mayo, popped corn chips. Dahee Kebab $16 Crispy yogurt fritters, salad greens, mango chutney, pomegranate molasse. And though he said that would make a good lunch for two, we added on the chana bhatura lunch special because we were HUNGRY. My friends.... those two appetizers were so unique but so unbelievably good. Full of flavor but not in an overpowering way, beautifully presented, and fresh. We were definitely pretty full after the two but then came the chana which was also outstanding in terms of quality and quantity. Paired with some pickles, raita, and fresh bread? Ordered a couple things, everything was great except for the Malai Kofta (which I was most excited for). The koftas were just potato with no paneer, like in a vada pav. The gravy was flavourful and creamy as usual. Hara Bhara Paneer Tikka was good, I missed the veggies that are usually in this dish and it was oddly served with coleslaw. Their Navratran Korma was taken off the menu, and the Spicy Mix Veg took its place (but not spicy as listed) Onion Kulcha, Garlic Naan, Samosa Chaat and Manchurian were great!! I've come here for multiple work lunches in the past weeks and I love the location, food quality, and food options. Food is fresh, delicious and you get good value. It has a nice ambience as well and strong wifi there is music in the background that's loud enough so you can't eavesdrop on the table next to you, but not so loud that you have to yell at each other. In the same complex as Strawberry Hill center, so there is plenty of parking. read more

We live in the area and was looking for a restaurant where we could dine-in. We were shocked to see most restaurants were still operating take-out only. Guess we should have called beforehand. B and I walked by here and saw a sign that says dine-in available. OMG... We were super excited. So here is the protocol. -First you walk in, you have to sanitize your hands. -Then you are taken to your table. The tables are separated. It is good that their original layout has lots of booth seats. -Menus are online. Yes, they don't give you a menu. You have to know beforehand or look it up on your cellphone -When you are ready to order, they take down your name and phone number along with you order. -Now you have to wait for the food to come. B and I ordered the Lamb Korma and Lamb Curry. We shared it too. You are probably thinking why so much lamb. We had chicken for the entire week and we couldn't do anymore chicken. We also got three garlic naan to share. B has been here before and he said that the taste has improved significantly. He is not sure if they used a new recipe or what? It was super tasty. The Lamb Korma was full of flavor. The lamb curry was so creamy. The garlic naan was full of garlic. We both enjoyed our food. Everything came pipping hot. To finish it off we ordered desserts to share. We got the Gulab Jamun. The Gulab Jamun wasn't very sweet and that was perfect. It was definitely tastier than other places where I had it before. I have now ordered food multiple times from Spice 72, However, on two occasions they have placed the order incorrectly, by switching the spice levels for the dishes. On Thursday, October 24, 2024 I called to complain that the spice level was high, when the order specified it to be mild. When I called the restaurant they requested I bring the dishes back, so they can adjust the dishes. I had to advise them the food has left their establishment and it wouldn't be appropriate to use those dishes to reformulate the spice level, as this may also violate health regulations. I advised the restaurant that they should be providing new dishes with the requested spice levels. They then requested that I bring the dishes back, which we had disposed off, as the food did not meet our requirements. The restaurant then requested the empty containers before they could either replace the food or provide a refund. It's quite disappointing that this occurred, but specifically as the food was ordered for family who was visiting from overseas. No one needs to have such an experience. But again, the most concerning part is they wanted to reuse the food that has left their establishment to reformulate the food. I won't be going back. And anytime else that may have had the same experience, I ask that you also come forward, s the health and safety of customers should be paramount. read more

I went for lunch on July 20, 2020 and the experience was exceptional. I called the day before to make sure that they are open for dine in, and I was already happy with how friendly and polite the person answering the phone was. The interior of the restaurant made it easy to social distance, we sat at one of the booths so we were separated from other customers. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and the servers were very friendly. Due to Covid-19, I had to look at the menu on my phone. This shows the restaurant is serious about keeping customers safe. Our party of three ordered Chaat Papri to share, I had the lamb curry lunch special and my friends had the chicken roti roll. The Chaat Papri was the best we had at any Indian restaurant, the balance of the sweet and sour was just right. My lamb curry was nicely presented and the meat was cooked just right; moreover, the portion was generous, something I really appreciated. My friends were also very satisfied with their chicken roti. We all felt the taste of the food reflected how much heart the restaurant has put into preparing the food. If I go to Surrey in the future, I'll definitely go back to this restaurant. read more

We had a huge feast at @spice72lounge recently! Since it was a huge group, we were able to try so many different dishes. My personal favourites were the chilli paneer (cottage cheese cooked with bell peppers and spices) and the Goan lamb (boneless lamb cooked in fresh curry leaves, mint and rich coconut gravy). We also went through so many orders of their garlic naan! Their mango desserts were also very refreshing. I would say definitely try a paneer dish as long as you can tolerate cheese! read more

Dined in on a Saturday night. The place was packed, but luckily we came early enough and got seats right away. We ordered the usual shai paneer, chicken vindaloo, and saag. The portions felt smaller than what we get with take out, but I'm not sure how the pricing and sizes differ. My favourite dish is the shai paneer and I order it for take out all the time. The shai paneer is unlike any other restaurants. It has body with chunks of onions, and tomatoes. I was surprised to find a few strawberry pieces on top of the dish tonight. It surprisingly worked though! It added a nice touch of sweet and tartness. Not sure if it was just an experiment or if this is how it's served all the time when dining in. Regardless, I enjoyed the innovation and I'm glad to see a restaurant that isn't afraid to try new things. read more

We wanted to try something new for main dishes ordered the mango chicken which did not disappoint. Shahi paneer and chilli panner. While I was visiting Vancouver last month, I had cravings for Indian food. I knew that Surrey, home to a large Sikh community, is where authentic Punjabi food can be found. While driving to work, I happened to hear about Surrey's new restaurant Spice 72 from radio advertisements, so I decided to check it out for dinner. It's located at the intersection of 72nd Avenue & 120 Street. My first impression of Spice 72 - it's very clean, contemporary, and decorated like an upscale lounge. There was a full bar and several TVs broadcasting baseball. All the servers spoke perfect English. I sat at a booth with comfortable leather seating. The atmosphere at Spice 72 was much different from the Indian restaurants I've been to. I ordered the non-vegetarian thali which consisted of several classic Punjabi main dishes - tandoori chicken, aloo gobi, and lamb curry. The portion in the thali might look small in the pictures, but due to the heavy nature of Punjabi food, the serving was more than sufficient for dinner. Despite the elegant decor which might suggest fusion cuisine like what is found at Vij Rangoli and My Shanti, the food was the opposite. All the dishes were prepared traditional Punjabi style, which was what I was looking for. The lamb curry was stellar, where the slow cooked lamb had almost no fat and the gravy was perfectly balanced with flavors from sweet onion and ginger. Aloo gobi was an aromatic mixture of peas, potatoes, and cauliflower cooked together in turmeric and garlic. The spices were not overpowering so the taste was natural while flavorful. My favorite of all was the tandoori chicken, since the meat was remarkably tender, moist, and dripping with juices. My only suggestion for management is to provide more rice in the thali, a small bowl is not enough. The owners here are Gujarati and the chefs are Punjabi, which explains why there is a combination of Mumbai street food and Punjabi fare. I will order the golgappe next time, it seemed to be a very popular item. I would recommend Spice 72 if you're looking for food that is cooked to order, tastes fresh, and is presented professionally. read more

When I came to see Gareth in Surrey I drive by this place all the time, however, it used to be an Irish pub. We never came in here when it was an Irish pub, however, as of December of 2015 now that it is an Indian eatery we thought that we would give it a try before it turns into something else. There website is a little bare at the moment with little to know information IE: Menu preview, therefore, we had to purely go in blind. The place is really modern yet traditional. They had tradition music in the background at a respectable volume so that patrons can have a conversation with family and friends. Most of the booths have outlets so that you can charge your phones. The server was really nice and sweet. I have certain dietary restrictions and she was patient with me. Food came out in a timely manner. Prices were respectable. read more

My workplace wanted to hold a Christmas party here but was not happy with the service. We found they increased the prices as soon as they found out it was a Christmas party to 10.00 more per person with the same menu selections . There are other restaurants that provide better service and quality of food for less. Good food but very bad service. Bad service and attityde is an understatement. The waiters and waitresses are not trained at all. I politely asked for substitution and they way the waitress responded was uncalled for. Straight No. And what I get is "if we start doing that then it becomes everyone's habit" I understand that they dont do sibstitutions but never heard anyone lecturing me like that. Quite a response from a waitress :). These guys seriously need to train their staff. Anyways, if I thought that was rude, least did I know that worse was coming. This was a pleasant spur of the moment restaurant choice. We arrived around 5:30pm on a Saturday night and were promptly seated (yay to no wait!). The decor is beautiful and the booth we were seated in was pretty private, which was nice. We had no idea the restaurant had only been opened for about a month! Now to the food. My husband and I each ordered their non-vegetarian dinner special. As it turns out, we probably could have shared one of these instead of getting one each. I think that's what I would do (supplemented with either a side of samosas or an order of tandoori). These dinner specials were extremely generous. The butter chicken is rich and delicious. The tandoori was tasty. The lamb curry was my favourite. Really deep, complex spices ands gingery punch. The veggie curry was also excellent. All of these came in small-looking bowls...but looks are deceiving! There is A LOT of food here. And it was spicy! We weren't asked "how hot" we'd like our food. We asked after the fact, and were told it was medium (I guess by default). I can handle heat, but even I found it pretty spicy. Almost uncomfortably hot, but just manageable. My only beef is there's not enough rice in the provided serving. Also included, yogurt raita (savoury yogurt to dispel the heat) and "dessert" which in our case was an orangey red sweet rice concoction, and a cone shaped papadam containing a (inedible) salad garnish. We were able to doggie bag the equivalent of a whole dinner (minus the rice - we each finished the rice provided). read more

Stumbled upon this gem as I was waiting to go to the movies as It is conveniently located by strawberry hill movie theatre. The place is really open and really nice. The staff was friendly and super helpful. The food was great!! We ordered raita, butter chicken, and garlic naan. The food came out super fast and it tasted super fresh! I loved the butter chicken, it was moderately spicy and it had lots of flavor. The garlic naan wasn't too overpowering and it wasn't dry (which can happen). We also got some cocktails which were ok, they did not have all the drinks that were on the menu, but that's probably because they are a new place. We also got cake and mango ice cream for dessert and they were both delicious! I highly recommend this place if you like Indian food! read more

My new favorite Indian food spot. I love the palak paneer the most and their naans are pillowy soft abut crisp on the edges and dripping with butter. Just what you want in a naan. I like that they have a variety of food on their menu - some things you expect to find like butter chicken and palak paneer but other things are more unique like khaman dhokla, or vegetable shaslik which has tofu in it - I always thought Indian food should utilize more tofu instead of paneer. They have many unique items on the menu and the prices are reasonable. The inside atmosphere is really nice and suitable for larger groups. They even have private rooms. And they're easily accessible off 72nd. Highly recommend this place! read more

My daughter and I had dinner there tonight. I had Fish Vindaloo and she had Chicken Muglai. The Fish was awful and tasted like unedible rubbery bits and pieces of chewy leather. My daughter's chicken was soo spicy (we had requested mild spiciness) that after a couple of mouthfuls, she was unable to eat anymore and I refused to eat my Fish Vindaloo for fear of falling ill. i told the waiter this. He kept us waiting for 15 minutes whilst he spoke with management. When he returned, he brought with him two bowls of gulab jamuns as a complimentary offering for the untouched meals which cost me $63,00. No refund was offered for this horrible and expensive dinner, which left us unsatisfied and unrecompensed. Establishments like this should be boycotted and brought to justice.
