We had a fun day around the area and decided to get Spice Club for dinner, which was near the beach house. I remember having a good experience here a year ago when we dined in. This time we decided to get take out and eat at the house. We ordered online which was easy to navigate. We got pad Thai, Hong Kong noodles, two rolls and potstickers. They had a discount if you spent $60 you'll get 10% off. I went to pick up the food and it was ready when it say it would be. Inside was nicely decorated like the last time I been here. There was also plenty of seating. The host handed me the food and I was glad they separated the sushi from the hot food. We got home to eat dinner and I tried the pad Thai. I got level three and it was not spicy enough for me. Maybe next time I will get a 5. As far as the taste... there was no flavor and the noodles seem to a bit under cooked. I was expected that spicy, tamarin sour and sweet flavor that is normally in a Pad Thai but didn't get that. The potstickers and sushi were pretty good. Overall it was decent but could be better. Food, service, and ambience is always top notch. If the restaurant is too busy, do take out. Personal favorites are the low carb meals, Pho Soup, sushi, and pad Thai. For appetizers the wings, chicken satay, and dumplings are excellent! They have two sister restaurants in Mystic as well. Pink Basil is in Mystic shopping village near the back of the Aquarium. The menu has a variety of sushi rolls, appetizers, stir fry, and other entrees. Everything sounds delicious. I was craving some sushi and ordered the spice club roll. Parking was easy and my order was ready when I got there. Easy pick up at the front. The inside had a decent amount of seating and had a nice atmosphere. I really enjoyed my sushi roll. We have enjoyed this restaurant for a long time! Tonight I ordered crispy garlic with duck! Not only was it dry , very little to no sauce the bill gave us a $12 up charge for duck and it was not listed anywhere! Nor did the bar tender mention it. When asked what the server could do I said tell the manager ! We have never had a meal like this. No one offered anything! I got a Philadelphia roll, nam tok, and Thai tea. Sushi was good, smaller rice portion with smoked salmon. The nam tok salad was very savory, I ordered a spice lvl2 and it felt more of a spice 1. Personal preference I would've like it to been more sour, but it was still very good. Beef was seasoned very well! The tea was also good, good amount of sweetness. Service was good for the most part till the end, where it took 20+ mins to pay for the bill. I'm going to exclude the slower service for the bill due to it being busy. We used to come to this restaurant a lot. When we eat in food is always wonderful but the last few times we've ordered takeout. It has been not up to par at all. I ordered the pho and paid for extra beef never got. Said no spice or jalapeños it has spice added, and jalapeño sitting right on top of the noodles. For my husband's sashimi, he asked for no white meat. They gave him mostly white meat like I said we order the same thing all the time when we go inside to eat with no problems, but this is the third time on takeout and it was completely wrong. read more

For $18 and an entree label, I assumed I was getting more than a standard 6 piece shrimp tempura roll, but it was exactly that -- for EIGHTEEN dollars. Their dinner entrees were lunch-portion sized at $18+. You can get similar or better quality thai food with larger portions for less money in *New York City.* The food is simply nowhere near good enough for the price, it's absurd. I used to love this place, have been coming here for years. Tried to give it another shot after my more recent mediocre visit, but I'm done. I got food poisoning from my takeout order, and I'm really not sure how because I got an appetizer sampler. Pad sew ew noodles were cooked to perfection but the pork was overcooked. Beef with bamboo stir fry was okay but beef was overcooked. The best portion and prices around!!!! This is my family's "go to" thai place in this part of the state. The jasmine tea is amazing, the service is prompt, I LOVE the booths, they have a cut out of "the rock" coming into the restaurant, and it's a super calm environment. I love the Pad Thai (super generous portions) and you are able to get it from nor spicy to very spicy. I may get mine slightly more spicy next time! :) I'll be back!!! read more

Whenever I'm craving Thai, The Spice Club is where I find myself. Their coconut soup is amazing and I always get their green curry. The portions are really good but I do wish I got a little more white rice. The vibe in the restaurant is super cute. There's flowers everywhere so it's picture worthy. The service is quick. The menu is overall reasonably priced and portions are sizable so you can feel okay getting an app and entree and then even take some home. I keep wanting to try more because everything I've had is incredible, but I am addicted to the crispy duck salad and curry (my favorite is the red, but I've tried green and yellow, too). Such intense yet balanced flavors in each dish, they really know how to give food just the right amount of heat (they'll ask how hot you want it from 1-4, I always say 3). They start you with a bowl of shrimp chips which, I'd imagine, you either love or hate. I personally love them and haven't had really good ones since before the pandemic from Chinatown in Boston. These are right up there. The seaweed salad was huuuuge and yummy. We got veggie spring rolls, a salad, tofu pad Thai and veggie brown rice sushi rolls. All fresh. My 2 red marks are based purely on preference - I like a sweet dip sauce with spring rolls. This was more vinegary and the pad Thai was on the wetter side. But flavorful and a good serving size. Tonight we ordered fresh rolls - fine, delivered as usual and nicely presented; Tuna Poke bowl - no dressing or soy sauce, rice not seasoned. Seaweed in strips added nothing to the dish; daikon radish was cubed (we've never seen that before), tuna, edamame, mango and cucumber all fine. Surprisingly, there was no red onion (I thought there was a town ordinance in East Lyme requiring onion on everything!). Onion would have added flavor. Niantic plate B (sashimi with a tuna roll) lacked wasabi, ginger and soy sauce. Salad was fine. Miso soup was ok - hard to deliver as takeout. Sashimi was pedestrian-fatty tuna, tuna and salmon. Fantastic food and service made lunch an absolute treat! Carrie, our delightful waitress, guided us through the diverse menu. We were happy she suggested the Spice Club Sampler which has two each of chicken satay, spring rolls, summer rolls, pork pot stickers and vegetable rolls with three fantastic house-made dipping sauces. The balance of sweet, savory, salty, spicy, and crunchy was a perfect intro. We were dazzled by the beauty and flavor of the Spice Club roll, Fresh Cucumber roll, and the Passion Roll and enjoyed the Spicy Duck Salad with zingy chili lime dressing. Parking was easy and the nearby view of Niantic Bay beckoned. Book Barn and other epic shopping is right around the corner. I really like The Spice Club. The sampler appetizer is great! It's a nice variety with tender chicken breast, spring and summer rolls and dumplings. It's served with a variety of really good dipping sauces. We also had the drunken noodles. I loved the flavor and we ate the whole platter. However, , as some customers mentioned the noodles were dry and sticking together. My guess is they are pre cooking the noodles causing this. Liked the flavor and hope they address this. We just went to the spice club for dinner. They were debuting their updated menu. We started with the pork bao buns which were really good. They could've used a little more sauce but overall the flavor was good. For my main course I got the beef pad see ew. The portions are generous so plan on bringing some home. This place is EXCELLENT. I came in on a Friday night around 7 pm & it was bustling with customers. They do a BRISK takeout business so the front bar area had a regular stream of customers in addition to the dining in customers. I was immediately greeted by the Hostess & I was escorted quickly to the bar area. The bartender immediately welcomed me & requested my drink order. I already knew what me y items I wanted so I requested a Singha beer, Tom Kha soup & Pad Woon Sen (bean thread noodle) with Chicken. I have been to Thailand many times so I am familiar with their fabulous cuisine. This place did not disappoint at all. I received my beer & within 5 minutes I had a lovely generous bowl of warm Tom Kha with shrimp. The coconut milk coupled with the lime juice, galanga, lemongrass, mushrooms, shrimp & green onions was delicious. It was perfectly balanced. The dining areas (inside, outside patio & bar area was full & the staff was efficiently keeping all the customers satiated & happy). Five minutes after the finishing my soup, they brought out a large plate of Pad Woon Sen. It had ample slices of wok fried carrot slices, egg, scallion, baby corn & chicken. It had a lovely light roast flavor too it. It's definitely one of my favorite Thai entrees. The restaurant has a nice flow & warm inviting ambiance to it. It is decorated in familiar Thai Asian art & memorabilia. They have floor to ceiling windows so there's an abundance of natural light throughout. They had classic rock music piped in at a very reasonable level so you could still easily hear conversation at your table. The restaurant is very clean including the bathrooms. I finally finished about 1/3 of the Pad Woon Sen & decided to take the rest home for lunch or dinner. (It was a good portion). I was quickly offered a take out box after I finished my beer. They also dropped off the check. I paid with the Square app, extended my sincere thanks & made my way out. All in all, a fabulous dining experience. The food, service & ambiance was fantastic.
