Spice It Up does not play! Everything I ordered was so good. The Oxtail Dinner and Curry Goat are my favorites. If you've tried different West Indian/Caribbean restaurants, you know that both of those dishes can go very wrong if they don't know what they're doing. The serving of oxtail wasn't stingy at all and they gave plenty of gravy. The Curry Goat plate was great. I usually eat curry with white rice, but this time I got it with rice and peas. Very glad I did, because it went together perfectly. Their Mac and cheese is good - not the best I've had but a solid side. The plantain was fried perfectly too. I visited this restaurant today after my daughter recommended it. She had brought me food from here before, and it was all right, so I decided to return and try the oxtail meal because my son had been asking for oxtails and I had not made them at home in a while. The location is not close to us, so we drove a considerable distance to get there. When we entered, a gentleman greeted us. Because the menu listed the oxtails at "market price," I asked him how much the meal cost, and he quoted one price. Shortly afterward, a woman came over and told me that was not the correct price and gave me a higher price. I honestly should have followed my first instinct and left, but my son was hungry and we had already made the drive, so we decided to place an order. The woman allowed us to sample some of the food, and based on the sauce, it seemed acceptable. However, I was surprised to learn that an oxtail meal costing more than $30 only included the meat, rice and peas, and one additional side. Any other side was an extra charge. Most Jamaican restaurants I have visited include rice, meat, and two sides, especially at that price point. The container was also quite small for the amount being charged. After adding a beef patty and a drink for my son, the total came to more than $40. Unfortunately, the taste and portion size did not justify the price. I have had much better oxtails from another nearby restaurant that provides a larger portion and two sides for a better value. What disappointed me most was the customer service. The woman's attitude and demeanor changed when I asked questions about the pricing, portions, and sides. As a paying customer, I should be able to ask reasonable questions without being made to feel rushed or as though I am causing a problem. My overall rating would be approximately 4 or 5 out of 10 for the food, 0 out of 10 for customer service, and 2 out of 10 for the atmosphere. I was truly hoping to find a good, authentic Jamaican restaurant for the days when I do not have time to prepare Jamaican food myself, but unfortunately, this experience did not meet my expectations. read more

I've actually never had brown stew, I usually stick to the go-to jerk chicken, but it looked too charred so I went with brown stew and mixed rice. The flavor was unique, so I'm not sure how it compares to other places. It was good though I prefer a good jerk chicken when I don't want to pay extra for ox tail. :) Surpringly my daughter loved the chicken, and she's not a huge meat fan. So in turn, I'm a fan. Perfection. I've been making a concerted effort to get out of my Alpharetta comfort zone and eat my way around the city. I was in the mood for Jamaican and this was the only place open and not ridiculously far. It's in a very unassuming little strip mall and upon entering the interior visually leaves a lot to be desired. It's dark and drab, but honestly that wasn't a bad thing. It has a kind of hole in the wall je ne said quoi which I've now come to associate with legit food. It's buffet style and there aren't menus so you just pick what looks good. I wanted seafood but unfortunately they didn't have any (they serve tilapia but were out. They have a vast number of sides and meats (a lot, there were like 10 different meat entrees from which to choose). I decided on Jerk Chicken Kabob for my meat and Baked Macaroni and Collards for my two sides. Here's the breakdown: Baked Macaroni: As a Southerner I'm a fool about my baked Mac and this was delicious. Flavorful with that perfectly browned top. 5/5 Collards: Really flavorful but I prefer my greens a little more toothsome. 4/5 Jerk Chicken Kabob: A total flavor bomb. Perfectly spicy with some kind of creamy sauce on top that makes it next level. When that sauce mixes with the greens and Mac it makes the perfect bite. Everything came out to $14 and given the portion size that's more than fair. Highly recommend. read more

No spice anywhere in the dish at all! I'm jamaican and love spicy food so I had high expectations. The oxtails was tender but had no flavor, no seasoning, no taste. Didn't like the cabbage either. Ended up throwing the plate away when I got home - it was just soooo dissatisfied. The only good thing was the plantains. This is DEFINITELY my go to spot when I want FRESH Caribbean food! The drive across town is well worth it for me, the restrooms are always clean and the vibes are always on point! The customer service never misses (being in the customer service industry this is really important to me) and I alway get my food in a timely manner.
