(And the only customer during my whole meal. ) about eight tables, nice clean contemporary / modern vibe to the decor. Good menu with all of the usual suspects. Started with vegetable samosa. Light and flaky outer shell, not greasy or oily at all. The inside had a great mix of spices, potato, and peas - great texture. The sauces accompanied it perfectly. My entree was butter chicken, and it was a delight. Ordered it medium spicy, and was pleasantly surprise with the slow burn that accompanied the complex sauce. Best dhabha style food in US. Its oily, gressy etc etc but thats what dhabhas are known for. Very tasty, fresh and more importantly good service. Have been there many times and best part is there is watering point right next door and u can buy stuff and sit here...i remembered my college days back in India where we used buy liquor and sit in the dhabba late nights. Just ok Food marred with lousy server attitude. Ordered mild for all the dishes but recieved food that was clearly not mild.Their Tandoori Chicken is nothing but red colored chicken smothered with what I think is red chilli paste, there was no flavor in it, just the heat and was very dry inside. I believe, to make Tandoori chicken you have to marinate the chicken with right amount of spices cook it so it retain the juices cooked well, not cook it dry. Their Masal fries definitely was a good twist and had flavors but I will be a bit shy at calling it fries in first place. It was more like potato wedges covered in soggy masal tarka. We oredered Onion Kulcha and other types of breads but Onion Kulcha was never served and yet we were charged for it. When I brought this to servers attention, he outright denied and said he served it, essentially telling me that I was lying. I was left wondering why did I even bring it up, Why would I care for a $3 kulcha when my bill was more than $200 - but then, there is something called ethics and courtesy which they clearly lack. What is with this place? Spice Rack is about as unassuming and simple as you can get. The first time we walked in, we exchanged a quick glance, not knowing if we'd found the right place. The walls are nearly bare, the tables and chairs are about what you'd expect in a cheap Chinese take out place. The only server we've ever had is a younger guy who is pleasant and talkative. He's good at making suggestions for those who have issues with the menu. He's just a little out of place. You'll understand when you get there :-) The reason this place has such a high rating is the FOOD. My goodness, they have consistently great food. I had been a chicken tikka masala man for years but I was looking for something less saucy and lighter so I went with the tandoori chicken. It came out on a sizzling plate with a whole chicken's worth of meat on it. Unbelievable. The flavor was almost indescribable. Those who've had tandoor oven items before will understand. They have a nice selection of vegetarian dishes (good for the wife) and a lot of interesting appetizers. Their naan is awesome, too. Go to this place. They're also a byob, which keeps costs down. My holy grail is the vada pav and dabeli combo. Their lamb chops are delectable. My most recently favorites are Masala fries, Cashew curry and Lamb keema samosas. The Masala fries are something else only. When they will served, dont judge them by the looks or presentation, wait till you try some. They have an amazing kick to them, spicy yet flavorful. We ordered Chicken makhani and Cashew curry, while the curry base for both were same, the roasted/fried cashews in the cashew curry took the gravy to another level of deliciousness. We also ordered Keema naan, nothing special, cn be easily ignored. Service is consistently slow but the food and reasonable pricing always makes up for it. We (family of four) had lunch at The Spice Rack in Bensalem yesterday. It was the most authentic Indian food I have had in a long time. The butter chicken in particular was exactly how I used to have it growing up in India - not like we typically get it here in the US. I decided to try this restaurant after seeing the stellar reviews on Yelp. My experience was anything like what I read. It was so different, it's hard to believe that I was at the same place. First, this restaurant is extremely tiny, if you come with a party of 5 you'll have trouble getting seating. They are really set up for 2-4 people. When I arrived with my family, we were initially ignored by the three people behind the counter two waiters and the owner. When we were seated, we were given water and cutlery. The water though was not fresh, it had been sitting our for a while. It was actually once a pitcher of ice water, but the ice had been melted for sometime, leaving the water with a heavy chlorinated taste. We were there with three other parties, one group of two, and another group of eight. We were seated before the group of eight, but they were served the papadum and plates before us. We waited 30 mins before having to flag down the only waiter there. There were actually two waiters, but the other one was busy joking around with the owner at the counter and didn't feel like working. Initially we thought he was just a friend, but then he went behind the counter at some point and helped serve the party of two. There is no uniform. The other guy was trying to maintain everything all by himself. I felt bad for him because he seemed way over his head. We could hear him in the kitchen, talking about how people were seated and no one is being served. Which was really awkward, because we hear the responses "so?" "...tell them to f'ing go somewhere else..." and so on. The menu has a lot of choices. At least at first glance, as you read on you'll see that many of the items were repeated. Appetizers were served as main dishes and so on. After sometime hawing over the menu we finally placed our order. When the food did arrive it did not look especially appetizing. I'm not that fussy over presentation, at least I didn't think I was until I saw these plates come out. It looked like it was someones left overs, just sloppily heaped into the bowls, with some dried cilantro for garnish. The plates that they gave us were cheap, but more importantly filthy. Our waiter caught some of it as he was handing it out. It was quite embarrassing. The food was neither hot nor cold. Which in retrospect isn't a particularly good thing for rice or meat dishes unless you like food poisoning. The rice was soggy, and papadam was cold. Either the food was re-warmed in a microwave, or they have been sitting out in a container and not with adequate temperature. I have to admit the food was pretty good, everything was seasoned properly and full of flavor. The chicken tikka masala was a little bit on the sweet side, I personally didn't find it unappealing but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. After our meal we asked for the check, and was not informed about dessert. I'm not sure if they have any dessert. Or any other beverages except for water for that matter. We didn't see a menu and was not told by our waiter. One of the guests that were there were not as passive as us, and started voicing their opinions to the owner. They were upset, that the appetizers they ordered were not coming out together for everyone to enjoy at one time, as well as the dirty cutlery. To which the owner replied. "Sir, this is not fine dining, this is casual dining." ... So that pretty much sums it up... Did I expect too much of this place? I don't think so.... The owner obviously has low standards for his restaurant so I guess other patrons should as well. If I had to, I'd probably order take out from this restaurant. I wouldn't recommend bringing anyone you care about here to enjoy a meal. It's not that kind of place... and perhaps it was never meant or going to be. Which is a shame... I honestly hope this place closes. Not for any malevolent reasons really... It's just, if you like Indian food, you KNOW how hard it is to find a restaurant with great food, value, and ambiance. But, they are out there... but so are many more restaurants like this. I find that Indian food hasn't quite been as successful as, let's say Chinese food, but it's the crappy experiences at places like this that keep adventurous patrons AWAY from falling in love with the cuisine and culture. They'll never pursue another restaurant, or at least not with as much of an open heart as they did the first time. Once bitten twice shy. So yes, I hope this place closes, but only so that we can have more great cuisine and innovation, with less heartache. read more

Solid but cut-price (lots of under $10 options) Indian cafe in a typical PA strip-mall type location. Clean restaurant with fast food style presentation with quick turn-around on orders. Friendly owner, willing to customize and attend to his customers needs. You find lot of Indians eating here, so it tends towards a more traditional style, but I've seen plenty of Euro-American customers too. Don't expect the high-end restaurant experiance, this is more a cheap night out or friends business lunch rather than anything special or high-end. Nothing more to say really. read more

I just had what was one of the best meals of my life, of any cuisine. Chilli Pakora was a great starter. Very spicy. I had a vegetarian dish of potatoes stuffed with cheese and spices in an incredible sauce recommended by the owner. It was perfect. The mango lassi was the best I have had.
