Great Thai place for the area. First off the Tom Kha Soup was actually spicy, which I really appreciated. The dumplings were well seasoned and great dipping sauce. I also ordered the Pangang Curry - delicious!!!! The shop itself was very cute, a romantic ambiance that gave a relaxing experience. There seemed to only be one server, which for a Monday night - okay. While she was very nice, I definitely waited a little. But she was busy - which I will give her that. My wife and I eat here fairly often. We both get Pad Thai because we like the way Spice makes it. I've had a lot of Pad Thai in my life from different places, but this Pad Thai is my favorite. Service can be spotty, but it's usually attentive and quick. The booths are comfortable and you can watch the sushi chef prepare your selections. All-in-all a good place to go. read more

Tried take out, first time and last. I love Thai food and have eaten it many times. Hands down this place's food was terrible. I ordered my go to Tom Kha soup. Totally bland and watery. A few bites of the duck alone was edible, but the ginger sauce I ordered thankfully on the side, bitter. None of the food even tasted like Thai, no balance of flavors. Didn't even know a Thai restaurant could be this bad. They used regular white rice no jasmine! Oh my goodness, what a lovely Thai/ Sushi spot! Truly a little gem in Lakeland, in my opinion. All of the sushi rolls I tried were fantastic, especially the St. Pete, which was a mayo type roll and ooooh yes just fantastic, that is all. I got a yellow curry dish, and to be honest it wasn't my favorite. I felt it was lacking a lot of flavor... but also I just don't think my pallet was as compatible with that particular dish, rather than reflecting that it was poor quality food. My friend got one of the pad Thai/ rice noodle dishes and that was really yummy, so the food is obviously good, I think I just picked the wrong dish for my preferences. Lastly, the dessert was wonderful! Fried donuts with a condensed milk sauce, and though it may not sound like much it was just divine and I wish we had gotten more donuts! (though it's probably a good thing we didn't, haha) Our waiter was an absolute hoot, the sweetest and most hilarious guy, I feel maybe he was the owner or manager or some higher up, but he made our visit all the better. The seafood Panang Curry was delicious! I could eat the sauce on absolutely everything I cook at home. However, the veggies were mostly cabbage, and the seafood was sparse. My daughter had the Lad Na. Both the beef and the noodles were overcooked and tough, and there was little flavor. Service was excellent, though. The soup wasn't hot and it's pretty much chicken broth, ground chicken and old rice a mushroom or green onion would of made a huge difference . My lunch companion had shrimp pad Thai the shrimp was a nice size and cooked well but the noodles was overcooked and mushy with no flavor . My bento box was very wet ( salad was swimming and the broccoli is steamed separately and added to the sauce but they didn't drain it ) it had a blah boring vibe and tasted like grocery store sushi . My wife and I visited Spice Thai & Sushi for lunch earlier today and had a nice experience. I ordered from the lunch menu in which each entrée comes with soup and a spring roll. The soup was light, flavorful and filled with carrots, celery, potatoes, and a spice that tasted like toasted garlic. The spring roll was crisp and filled with fresh cabbage and carrots and paired with a sweet orange like sauce. For my entrée I tried the Pad Thai with Chicken. Savory rice noodles were covered in a sweet sauce and mixed with tender chicken, fluffy eggs, crisp scallions, and crunchy peanuts. Additionally, I was very appreciative of the COVID protocols that were being taken. The restaurant was very clean, all the staff wore facemasks, guests were seated in a socially distanced manner and our table had a bottle of hand sanitizer. Overall, Spice Thai & Sushi is a nice place for quality Thai Food and a nice lunch. I will be visiting again soon. read more

We dined in Friday, May 21, 2021, returning to one of our favorite restaurants, normally excellent Thai- style curries and noodle dishes. We've circled back to Thai Spice many times over the years, back to when the restaurant sat in Merchants Walk just a bit to the north. The restaurant was busy but not noisy. Staff continued with full protective masks and gloves; we noticed signage entering and at our table to wear masks, keep distant and wash hands thoroughly. We're not out of the woods yet, but things seem to be getting better. The updated menu looked intriguing. We had an order of dumplings for an appetizer and those were amazingly tasty, particularly with the dipping sauce. My wife's "Volcano Chicken" was just okay, deep fried chicken with a bright red chili sauce. The sauce lacked any semblance of heat, very bland. I had fried soft shell crab that varied from okay to inedible, overly fishy-tasting, not fresh. The crab came with the same bland sauce as the chicken. We will come back, and next visit we'll return to the more traditional curries and noodles that won our admiration previously. read more

So after my last subpar experience someone from spice reached out to try and right the matter by crediting me back my bad meal. When I went in to cash in the credit Joe was so much help. He was honestly really nice about the entire matter and ready to help. The other employee who helped cash me out was also super nice although I didn't catch her name. I got two rolls free as a result of the credit. I did have to wait a bit for them to figure out how to punch everything into the machine but was honestly not mad because they were doing me a favor. Super happy to spice for taking initiative and caring about my review Sadly I really couldn't bump their stars up. My sushi was just okay. I know lots of people who love spice so it could honestly just be me but I am not used to chopped up tuna in a spicy tuna roll or dry Eel in an eel roll. I didn't finish my meal again. The absolute worst Thai food I've ever had. They aren't even trying. Got takeout. Pad Thai and Drunken noodles. The noodles had congealed at the bottom. It was either left overs or it had been prepared beforehand, dumped in takeout containers, refrigerated and then simply warmed back up. My wife and I threw it in the trash. We are regulars here (probably have been here around 12-15 times total) and always have a great experience. I've tried numerous dishes (some of my faves are posted in the pics below) and have rarely ever been disappointed. The servers are quiet, respectful, and work as quickly as they can. There are a few people who have been here for at least the two years I've been coming here, but Spice also seems to cycle through servers pretty quickly. Right now they are hiring, so it seems they are a bit understaffed. Regardless, even during busy lunch hours, I've had realistically quick service both from my server and from the kitchen staff. During dinner hours the place is slower, and it's nice to be able to sit and relax during a multi-course meal with your s/o or friends. Some tips: -if you want to pay less for more food, come during lunch hours. They give you an appetizer, soup, and a desert along with your entree for only the price of your entree (which is cheaper than the price of the same entree at dinner). You also get all of the same things if you order take out at lunch. -there are a few hours in the middle of the day that Spice is not open. They're open 11-3 then 5-9 on weekdays. -TRY THE MANGO AND STICKY RICE. You will not be disappointed. -wine is not on the menu they give you but there is wine in addition to beer, sodas, coffee, tea, and the specialty Thai drinks on the menu. I have only ever had one problem with the food quality/taste while dining at Spice. I'm a shrimp person and will always choose to add shrimp to a dish if there is an option, not excluding at Spice. Usually the shrimp at Spice is fine (not my favorite, but not bad) but occasionally it tastes a little bit too fishy for my liking. Admittedly, most people would probably not be bothered by this, but it's something I'm picky about. I can't comment on the sushi as I do not eat it but I can say I've explored with a lot of different dishes on the menu and have never disliked one, despite being a picky eater. You can modify the dishes pretty much however you'd like, so there's no excuse not to experiment! I also love the atmosphere and overall feel of the place. The linch specials are amazing. You can choose from around 14 different sauces plus choice of beef chicken pork or seafood. There are also around 10 sushibrolls to choose from as well. The sushi lunch includes 2 rolls soup and spring roll for 8.95 They start you out with soup and spring rolls. The hot green tea is awesome and plenty to last your entire meal. I had the garlic sauce with pork. And my daughter and i split a sushi special with one roll each. The sauce was packed with flavor it didn't disappoint. The meat was slightly overcooked to my liking but still good. The panang curry here is amzing that's my normal go to but changed it up this time. Highly reccomend this place. Meh. This restaurant has been around for a long time and we've been coming here on and off for years. It started out great then declined horribly - food quality suffered and customer service was horrible. We stopped going. Then they reopened in a new location and we started hearing good things about them again so we gave them another try. Service and food had improved, so we put them back in the rotation. Sadly, our visit today was disappointing. The soup was served lukewarm and the spring roll was room temperature and soggy. When we called this to the attention of the person who cleared those dishes, we were informed that they were under new ownership. We also mentioned it to our server who told us he would ", let them know," but we did not hear another word about it. i Ok, so I guess that means we can no longer expect items other than the main dish to prepared fresh and served hot. Good to know. The curries are ok but there are better to be had in town. We mostly like to come here for their lunch special, which offers a reasonable amount of food, including soup and a spring rolls, at a good price - a banana roll and mini donut if included on weekends. I have been able to dine in on 2 separate occasions and decided to rate it with 3 stars. The customer service is great and the staff is always friendly. The restaurant is always clean and has unique lighting with a bar strip that lights up on the side. I have ordered sushi in the past and was absolutely disgusted with the result. I ordered 2 rolls and could only eat 3 pieces before tapping out. I had to force myself to eat more than 1. The spicy tuna tasted like it was left out for hours and then frozen and then left out again. I have never been so disappointed with sushi before. This time around I ordered the yellow chicken curry and oh boy was it amazing. It had potato, vegetables, plenty of chicken, and a nice helping of rice as well. I did ask for it to be spicy hot, but it had almost no spice at all. I asked for additional spice to put in and she brought me this arrangement of chili pepper, jalapeños, chili sauce, and another pepper. I used the chili sauce and it picked it up a little. Wish it had more of a kick, but it was good none the less. Perfect portion size. Wife had the Chicken fried rice and she loved it as well. After my last few visits I have noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food and service. For this reason I am updating my review. On my most recent visit I ordered the red curry. Typically this dish is solid but recently the flavor of the veggies have been off and the quality of the chicken subpar. The cabbage in my curry tasted spoiled. I also noticed that even the tap water has an odd flavor. The staff turnover rate appears high as well. I have a new server everytime I go here. Often the server is inexperienced and it takes a long time to order and pay for my meal. Based on my last two visits I cannot return to this resturant. I hope they work things out. read more

The only thing you should donis read this review and find another place to eat. For anyone that rates this past a 1 has no taste buds. You need to go see your local physician. Taste watered down, the curry puffs is like frozen dough from Publix to make crossiant. I have had a lot of this food around the country and this is by far the worst.
