FAMILY FOOD ADVENTURE IN LAKELAND!!! When you walk in it is very ancient looking, not traditional as it would look if they updated the decor. We ate and got many things. I'm not going to spend time listing everything b/c honestly everything was just ok. There was not really a single dish that stood out or gave me a reason to go back. Price to food value was not really great either. I'm sure some people like it as there were a few other tables when we went, but place was pretty empty. Service was ok as well, nothing spectacular. If this place renovated, updated their dishes and stepped up their customer service they might have something, but for us it was a 1 and done in its current state. As always TRY IT FOR YOURSELF!!!

Shrimp lo mein with broccoli

I stopped in for a late lunch and I was literally the only customer inside. I was told to choose any table and water was brought to me. I ordered an egg roll and shrimp lo mein. The egg roll came out quick and was piping hot. It was full of flavor and the plum sauce added an extra layer of flavor. The shrimp lo mein was missing some flavor. I added broccoli to the dish and the broccoli was cooked perfectly. The shrimp and noodles had no seasoning and I had to add quite a bit of soy sauce to get some flavor.

We love the Peking House. It's one of Lakeland's little treasures, not quite hidden away south of downtown on South Florida Avenue. It is the only sit-down Chinese restaurant in Lakeland. When I found that out and saw pictures online, I became very excited because it reminded me of restaurants I had been to as a child. Inside, it still has that old world Chinese-American looking antique feel with the large red moondoor separating two dining rooms. It's hard to define the Peking House, it's not fancy, it's not casual, it kind of straddles both. They do a lot of take-out, especially now with the pandemic, but before they had table cloths and you could feel fancy while eating in your nice blouse and jeans. Their menu has both the standard favorites and house specialties, including duck. Their food is so good. We are egg drop soup and egg roll fanatics and they make some of the best. Always fresh. Any dish you order, is always very generous with the meat versus vegetable ratio. Also, when you order a spicy dish, they will ask you what heat you would like: medium, hot, or extra hot. Medium is very good, hot is HOT, AND we've never tried extra hot! Their fried rice is very savory and flavorful. One of our fave tips, a regular dinner entree can be enough for two people. There is a LOT of food packed in those to go containers. Add soup and a couple of egg rolls and you've got a very affordable meal. Another tip - the main door looks to be on the corner of S. Florida Ave. and W. Oak Dr. but it's not, it's actually the door on W. Oak Dr. that faces Southgate Shopping Plaza. Drive down W. Oak Dr. and park behind that little shopping center that holds Peking House. There is actually plenty of parking there. If not, park in Southgate Plaza.

Second time eating here. The first time everything was delicious, but the second time we left 2/3 of every dish uneaten, different cook maybe? Or perhaps we were starving the first time. The rice was hard, the shrimp in the rice was shriveled from overcooking. The beef dish was salty, like swam in the ocean overnight salty. The dumplings had a weird taste, like the pork was aged somehow. The shrimp and scallops were ok, but still over salted, in fact the only flavor was salt. This was the Chinese version of a theme park turkey leg, designed solely to make you thirsty and buy drinks. Everyone cam have an off day, but this one was rough.

New menu prices

Chinese food is Chinese food, nothing to write home about as it all pretty much taste the same anywhere you go (unless it's a really really good upscale place). So I ordered the sweet and sour chicken lunch special w/o breading. I did't know that meant white boiled chicken with ZERO seasoning and zero flavor, but I do now. I did to-go so I was in and out. That's it for service. Here's a picture of the new menu prices. I don't mind paying for a great meal, and often get frustrated when people get upset over the price of good food because they'd rather go cheap for crap food than spend a little extra for a meal well worth it!! I really think it should be the owners obligation to update prices for customers to see, not the customer. Had I known the price change I definitely would've went elsewhere.

The general tso's chicken has been my go-to for the past 10 years. The portions are humongous too for such a small price!

Ordered to go house chicken and kung Pao. Both were not good at all and a complete waste of $40. They've gone downhill sadly.

Food and service are very bad, dirty tables, wait time for seating and service is ridiculous, won't be coming back to this place again.

Amazing early dinner this afternoon for my partners birthday…read more Ahi tuna appetizer was great! Served on a bed of arugula and cucumber with a snappy dressing. Beef medallions with shrimp and smashed potatoes. And, blackened Mahi with red beans and rice and collard greens. The food here is flavorful and truly fantastic. Pomegranate martinis with a basil leaf for flavor. First time sitting at the bar. Nicole, our server/barmaid was an absolute GEM! Her beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor, plus her menu and libation knowledge is one of the biggest reasons we will return to sit with her. The service was outstanding and the food honestly never disappoints. The restaurant is clean, and everyone is very friendly. If you have never been to Harry's Seafood, definitely give it a whirl. One complaint: each table features a card advertising happy hour. Although we were there during happy hour, drinks are not available at the happy hour price. Our waiter was as confused about that as we were. He said the cards had been there quite some time. Misleading if not downright deceitful. I love this place too much to make a fuss, but I felt like my loyalty had been betrayed.

If you are in the Lakeland area and you are hungry then this should be your first choice. We had "Sean" as our server and he was beyond outstanding. He was very attentive and very friendly and he took time to inform us about the specials, most popular items and was able to make suggestions based on our wants. We started with a dozen grilled oysters, half cajun butter and half garlic butter. They were very delicious. They were tasty, fresh and a nice size. My wife went with the grilled wild caught salmon which was described as the wagyu of the sea. And she said it was the best salmon she has ever had. I went with the pick two combo which included catfish, shrimp and cod. And I know that's three but instead of two pieces of catfish, I got one and two piece pieces of cod. My sides were hush puppies and red beans and rice. Let me tell you first of all it was a lot of food, everything was absolutely delicious. But the red beans and rice were amazing, plenty of flavor. And the sweet tea was excellent. We were to full from dessert but we will try some next time. We also met a manager and the owner and they were both very personable and friendly. They both acted like regular people and they both made us feel welcomed. Lastly we sat outside because we had our service animals with us and they also took very good care of them. They provided cold bowls of water and we order a chicken breast for them. Which they cut up in small pieces and provided them with to go bowls for them to eat out of. We live in Tampa which is about 1 hour away but our experience here was worth the drive. It is in a nice area with shops and stores. Definitely try this business if your in the area

Service was friendly and good. Southern charm feeling. We ordered 3 meals. Sea Bass, Redfish and Pick 2 with fish and shrimp. I had the redfish blackened and it was super flavorful with a kick. The crawfish sauce was excellent with 2 big shrimp on top. Everything was cooked well. The green beans on the side were nice and fresh. Rice was great to get that extra sauce. Wife had the Seabass and it was delicious as well. Great portion with a very tasty chimichurri sauce. I will try that next time as it was a hit. Green beans and potatoes on the side. Kid had the pick 2 and it was also very good. I actually liked the coleslaw. It was not mayo based and had a great taste. I ate it all! To start we had the fried pickles. Huge portion. Pickles were a nice thin slice with a seasoned coating. One of the better fried pickles we have had. Fighting for that last piece. Convenient location in an outdoor mall. Plenty of parking and can take a stroll after eating. Highly recommend this place!
