A good friend recommended this spot to me so I decided to give it a try. One word DELICIOUS. It's a very small, quaint, family owned spot. The staff was very inviting and friendly and the food was great. We had the Tom Kha soup with chicken and The Herb Chicken as an appetizer. Tong is the sweetest waiter and he also cooks! The food here is so worth the hour drive and we will be back again. The basil duck was perfectly crispy with the right amount of vegetables and spices. We ate every single bite slowly because it was so tasty! Whoever wrote the weird review about "dead fish" in the fish tank at the front door is blind because they are clearly plastic, FAKE fish. Don't judge the restaurant based on the decor, which is already very cute and quaint. I heard many customers walk in that are regular patrons. Everyone needs to eat here! We stopped by for lunch on a weekday. Be sure to understand their hours; they close between lunch and dinner. Lunch menu prices were good with large portion size. My lunch entrée included egg roll and soup. The restaurant is tiny, so probably not the best for large groups. My pad woonsen was good, soup very tasty, fried rice just okay, egg roll piping hot. Hubby enjoyed his salad, thought the dressing had a peanut taste to it. I'd go back if in that area again. read more

I ordered yellow curry with chicken, which is hard to mess up. The chicken was cooked well and was not too dry. However, the curry itself was very oily. I realize curry is not a low-fat food, but there was a slick on the top. The flavor was two-dimensional--I didn't get much lemongrass or coriander flavor (but boy could I taste the turmeric). The potatoes were slightly undercooked, leaving them waxy and not flavorful. The carrots were good and not overcooked, but again, they didn't have much flavor and served more as a nice texture contrast. They gave me an epic amount of rice--I couldn't even eat half of it. But at least the rice was not gummy I had really wanted to try one of the chicken puffs because they sounded really good and I've never had that before, but they were out. So I got spring rolls. They were just okay--nothing to write home about. However, the sweet and sour sauce that came with them was excellent. I actually dislike sweet and sour sauce but I gave it a go because others had said it was better than the average. It is sweet and hot and does not have that strange mouth fee and chemical aftertaste that I've noticed in most commercial sweet and sour sauces. This tasted like it was homemade, and now I'm a convert. While the sauce was good, it's not enough to bump it up to three stars. However, I am going to give it another chance (eating in this time instead of taking out) and write another review if my first meal turns out to be a fluke. I used to live in Los Angeles near Thai Town and have eaten some of the best Thai Food you can get in the states. Since living in Allen for a year, I have struggled to find tasty, flavorful Thai food. I'm so glad I discovered Spice Thai cafe last night! My go to is Pineapple Fried Rice. I am vegetarian and like that I can order is vegetarian style at a lower cost. Most places will still charge $13 or so even though the chicken, shrimp, etc is left out. Went here with a friend on a whim because of a Thai craving. Wasn't really expecting too much, especially because we had never heard of it but wow! It was pretty good! My friend ordered the duck while I had the green curry with chicken. The duck was yummy! It was crispy and so flavorful. It could've had a few more vegetables but I would definitely still recommend that dish. I got my green curry with a spice level of 3, which was actually pretty darn spicy! I'm glad I didn't get the max spiciness, 3 was more than adequate and still delicious. The curry itself was pretty good but I was expecting more coconut flavor. Definitely wouldn't say this is my favorite place to get green curry but I wouldn't hesitate to try other dishes here! The location itself is pretty nice and quiet. Smaller than expected but there was a good amount of people coming in for take out / a few for dining in on a Sunday evening. Cozy little Thai cafe with a vast selection of items to choose from. Dined in for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was a ghost town, I was the only one dining in. At first glance I was a bit skeptical. My waiter sat me down immediately upon arrival. I ordered a salad to start and the chicken pad thai as my entree. The salad was very fresh and quite tasty. It came with a side of peanut sauce which was off the chain!! The chicken pad Thai was tangy,sweet, and spicy. I will definitely be coming back for sure! I never get ill from restaurants I have a tough stomach but something I ate here made me I'll. I think it was the spring rolls. My husband even said one of them he bit into tastes like rotten cabbage. We ordered takeout and I did not really love the food and they did not get our order completely right. We wanted 2 spring rolls and they charges is for 2 orders of spring rolls which are two each already. The pad Thai lacked flavor and spice. I did not know the own ton soup contained shrimp I which it had been more clear since I don't eat shellfish. I will not go back. read more

This is a place my girlfriend and I have frequented numerous times as we liked their food. The food, therefore, isn't the problem. Unfortunately, today was the first time we ordered through the owner/manager who was the problem. Especially because of her terrible customer service that set my girlfriend back half an hour late to work. Story time: We placed a pick-up order at around 1 in the afternoon for Thai fried rice and two thai teas. By the time we picked it up and got home, we noticed they gave us half an order of the fried rice with a side of salad and eggroll -- their "lunch special." Of all the times I've ordered from here (always during lunch), I have never gotten a lunch special nor seen it, hence I didn't even know it was a thing. So we called back explaining that we wanted a regular portion for my girlfriend and I to split without any of the sides. I specifically asked if we can bring our order back and have them swap it with the regular portion, and the owner's response was a firm "no." So we further explained that no one told us about the lunch special, nor did we ask for it, nor have we ever gotten it before. Still, "No, but you can always add another order." At this point, my girlfriend had ten minutes before she had to leave for work, but we persisted and went to the store in person to sort things out (we shared one car so it was vital that I got food before she left to work). Here I was confronted by the very woman who took our order and claimed to be the owner/manager. She explained that if we wanted a dinner portion, we had to specifically ask for it. I told her that that wasn't the case every other time I ordered it and that we asked for "thai fried rice" not "lunch special" nor "dinner portion" so it didn't make sense that I had to specify my portions. If anything, that's their job to do as servers/restauranteers. Especially given the fact that they didn't have anything about portions on the menu! Even so, she remained adamant that she wasn't going to swap anything. As a result, we just paid extra to get another order and not deal with her. When we were walking out with our food, she said, "Next time, go find a better place." The pettiness and ridiculous service of the owner (not the employees) is beyond what I expect from any service industry. Simply baffling. read more

Before moving away from Dallas, the owner changed, and the food wasn't as fresh and tasty. It was good, but not great. Fast forward 2-3 years; I have no idea who the current owner is but they are very, very nice people. The food is pretty good; not the best Thai I've had, but the prices are reasonable and for Allen, Texas, it's a nice change of pace from Italian and American restaurants. He did not smile once while looking after our table and looked totally disinterested when taking our order. This really put a damper on the evening. I was craving some Thai so I located this spot and decided to go by since it had a pretty good rating. The place is very small as others had mentioned and in the same parking lot as Roman Cucina. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai with some spring rolls. The springs rolls were fresh and really tasty. I was impressed by that. The noodles in the pad thai were sticky so I can see they were overcooked. The flavor was pretty good, spicy as I requested. The customer service can be worked on since my waiter disappeared after my food was delivered. The staff at this place are pretty much as unprofessional as it gets. I placed a take out order as my wife and I did not feel like cooking. Unfortunately, I realized that in our haste; we placed the order at the wrong restaurant. We like in Fort Worth and there are several Thai Food restaurants with "Spice" as part of the name. Once I realized what had happened, I called the restaurant directly to explain to them the mistake. I was told that the order was already made, to which I responded again that we lived in Fort Worth. They hung up on me. Not once, but 3 times total. I then get some obscure message on my phone via text that they are going to refund me half. This is after I wrote a review on menufy.com, which told me that it wasn't out of the kindness of their hearts. I responded that they were unprofessional. They then responded back to me (and I'm not even making this up) - "Have a nice day :-)" Wow. My wife is fighting cancer and we've had a death in the family over this holiday season, so the order was made in haste and at the wrong restaurant. Again, an honest mistake. Bottom line, I would never recommend patronizing a place that has such a bush league attitude towards any customer. It demonstrates the type of people who run this place. And I guarantee that IF you ask about this incident, they will say it's overblown and I'm disgruntled..... sure.... I just write reviews ALL the time about places (not even close.... I never do it).... but these are especially rude and dismissive people and their organization should take a long look at themselves. All over a $57.34 meal.... First, it is a tiny place. Maybe seats 20, so plan accordingly. We had a group of 7, so we sampled quite a few items. One person had duck and thought it was great. Another had the basil salmon and thought it was quite good. Two had the pineapple, raisins, cashews, tomatoes fried rice. They were ok. Way more rice and way too little pineapple, raisins, cashews, tomatoes, and meat (one chicken and one pork). I thought we were doing a where is Waldo food game show. This was a bit of a find! Great little Thai place. Small, but ultra clean and non-pretentious. Staff were very friendly too. Food: I had Chicken and Shrimp red curry (cooked Thai Hot) and it was delicious. Spicy and yet delicate. It tasted like whoever cooked it cares about their work. The old lady had Chicken Tom Yum noodle and that was great too. They do take out, which is going to come in handy as we live fairly close.
