You get an option of naan or basmati rice with your dishes. I was so hungry I dove right into my food when I got home, so no food pics. Ordered channa masala & fish masala (with salmon), it was all delicious & they honored my "mild + spice" request perfectly. I can taste all the complex flavors in the channa. The fish masala was too oily, but still delicious (and tasted good so I'll try it again another time). Basmati rice was fluffy & naan bread was a bit on the flat side, but HUGE! & delicious. Finally, we have a new restaurant in the Shelby/ Macomb area that isn't some national franchise. Spice Valley opened less than a month ago on March 19th and is a very welcome addition to the local food scene. Went here for the first time today and all I can say...WOW. If your'e like me and you're tired of the mediocre sports bars and refuse to go to the national chain joints that populate Hall Road, then you need to give Spice Valley a try....the food is outstanding!!! My dinner tonight was so good, I ordered another dish, carry out, to have for lunch tomorrow. That's how much I wanted to try more of their food. For this visit we started with Meat Samosa, they were outstanding. The filling was delicious and the outside was nice and crispy. They were great topped with the complimentary chutneys that were served. So far so good. For entrees, I had the Lamb Pasanda and my wife ordered the Malai Chicken. Both were wonderful. The lamb was fantastic, nice and tender. At other restaurants I've found the lamb to be either too tough or too fatty, neither was the case with Spice Valley. Every bite was perfect. The gravy it came with was wonderful, silky and smooth, had a perfect balance of heat from the spices and sweetness from the coconut that was a key component. It was so good, I wiped the bowl clean with the bread....can't wait to have it again. My wife enjoyed her dish as well, the portion was plentiful. It came out on a sizzling tray with delicious grilled onion and pepper. For a bread we chose paratha and I'm happy we did. It was the perfect balance of crispy on the surface and wonderfully chewy below. I've had too many Partha that are either all crisp no chew or all chew no crisp. Spice Valley's might be the best I've ever had. After our meal was done, we were offered samples of a couple of their desert options, rice pudding and mango lassi. Both were excellent. I'm generally not a big lassi fan but this one was terrific. Please everyone, get our there and give this restaurant a try. On top of the great food, there is a real sense of pride that you can feel from the guys running the place. The service was top notch. They were eager to hear how we liked their food and made sure that we didn't leave without a carry out menu, a coupon for our next visit and even a pen with their logo as a reminder to go back soon! Had a fantastic meal at Spice Valley Indian Restaurant over the weekend! They're located at 22/Schoenherr in the former New Great Wall spot. We enjoyed Chana Masala, Garlic Chicken Tikka and Saag Chicken as our main entrees. All were perfectly seasoned and the spice level was exactly what we requested. Naan was a must, of course. We were big fans of the Garlic and Cheese Naan along with the Garlic and Chili Naan. The owners were so friendly and eager to ensure that everyone had a fantastic experience. But I think we ordered very late, right before they were closing. So some of the food felt slightly old. I really want to go back at normal hours and try the food again. My favourite was chilli chicken and the chicken biryani. My least favourite was chicken 65, it just didn't have the kick it normally should. Im not sure if we went on an off night but our food was disappointing. We got the dinner special for 2 which is a great deal - 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 pops, rice, naan, dessert and coffee for $47.99. Our appetizers were chicken 65 (not crispy like it usually is, chicken didn't taste right) and chili paneer (cheese was good but the sauce was sweet and not spicy). Our entrees were tandoori chicken (good but a couple pieces were still pink inside) and aloo gobi (it was hot but had no seasoning, had to add salt to taste anything which is so unusual for an Indian place). The dessert we chose was rice pudding and again it had no flavor, just tasted like undercooked rice and milk. The coffee we had at the end was actually the only part of the meal I really enjoyed. I'm so glad more Indian restaurants are opening up on the east side; this place is definitely one worth trying. We got the onion bhaji (4/5) and king prawn puri (5/5) to start. The king prawn puri, was not very spicy even though we ordered medium. But the flavor was on point. It was delicious. The onion bhaji was also very good but a tad dry. You cannot go wrong with chicken tikka masala; I swear you don't even need the chicken. All you need is some garlic naan to dip into that phenomenal curry. Even though it's not considered an "authentic Indian dish", you're not going to stop me from ordering it. It's my favorite. And this restaurant makes it very well. I can probably go up to a medium next time on it. I'm not one to handle crazy spice levels but I believe medium would be that perfect level for most people here. We really do need a universal level for spice at all the Asian restaurants. My sister got a chicken dish that I cannot recall the name of. But it was far too salty and I did not enjoy it as much. I really like how the species and main ingredients are listed out on the menu. We opted to order the Spice Valley Specials for 4 because the deal was impressive and we wanted to try different entrees as a family. The special allows you to choose: 4 appetizers, 4 main dishes, 2 desserts, 2 plates of basmati rice, 1 naan, 1 garlic naan, 4 cans of pop, and 4 cups of coffee. Absolutely loved the Kurma Chicken, Butter Chicken, and Chicken Tikka Marsala. The owners are extremely friendly and really made the experience great. Authentic Indian Food if Indian food were terrible. This is a sad excuse for Indian food. I was amazed at how bad it was when it had so many good reviews. Then I noticed that about half of the "reviewers had no profile and had only left one review in there Yelp history, and that one review, you guessed it Spice Valley. Now I am not saying that they are liars, or that it is impossible that half your reviews are from suspicious sources. But then again, coincidences of this sort just aren't very probable. As to the food, the vegetable Samosa was acceptable but nothing to write home about, the Tandoori was disgusting, everything else was sub par but somewhat edible. The Tandoori is the real star of this horror show. Absolutely swimming in oil, and lacking the texture normally present in a Tandoori dish. I am doubtful that they actually have a Tandoori Oven. As to spices, the one thing that defines Indian cooking, well they are sorely lacking. There is none of the subtle flavor developed by a good spice mix. In actuality, the most prevalent spice you will find is salt, slat they apparently have in abundance. Everything was over salted. Do yourself a favor. Stay as far away from this restaurant as you can. There are plenty of good Indian restaurants in the area, choose one of those, as a matter of fact, even chose a bad Indian restaurant in the area, it will likely be more authentic and better than this place. Every other Indian restaurant just moved up a grade level on the curve. read more

Ordered a large variety of apps and entrees to for a group and each one was better than the last. Dinner finished up hours ago and everyone is still raving. Chicken 65, lamb biryani, and saag paneer were the crowd favorites. Generous portions and each dish is thoughtful and deliciously comforting. The food was very good. Number 49 in particular was worth coming back for. But pay attention - when the menu says "hot", they mean it. The table service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant and restrooms were very clean, but the overall ambiance is "in process" as this was previously a Chinese restaurant and still has the China themed decorations.
