This is a review for the beef gyro. I typically don't order all beef gyros. It was quite a disappointment. I ended up removing the meat and just eating the bread and lettuce, I was strangely tasteless. The edges looked dry. I would give it a two except the service was good and the lavatory was clean. And the prices reasonable. For example water on a hot day was $.1.25 a bottle. Stick to the chicken shawarma. read more

I was at the Lakeside Mall with a friend and thought I would enjoy a little Mediterranean food but this one was a mistake!! All I ordered was hummus with pita bread and a small lentil soup. It doesn't seem like a Mediterranean restaurant should have a problem making that -- right??? Wrong!!! The hummus was actually dry if you can believe that. I've had better hummus from store bought containers - I've never had hummus that was too dry before!! The pita bread was fine - the thin type of pita bread. The lentil soup was watery and scalding hot!! I kept stirring it trying to cool it down but that never happened. I finally went up to the counter and asked if I could get some ice cubes and explained it was because the soup was scalding hot. The woman at the counter handed me a cup of ice cubes and never apologized for the soup being so hot!! So after I put in a few ice cubes and stirred it the temperature was cool enough so I could finally have my soup. I won't be going here again that's for sure!! read more

Very friendly owner, and I know it may be an odd thing to review at a Mediterranean food place, but their fries are so fresh and delicious. I had not been to the mall in years and my daughter wanted to go so she could spend some Christmas money. Wr stopped in at the grill. My wife really enjoyed her fatoosh salad, while my daughters and I enjoyed our bubble teas. It was unique to say the least. I had cherry bubbles with raspberry syrup. One daughter matched my order while the other tried rainbow bubbles and blueberry syrup. What I liked most is how friendly the owner was. He asked about my holiday and we talked a bit about the basketball games on. The staff were friendly. I had just ordered food at rhe flaming wok before I noticed the place; otherwise I would've had a shwarma or butter chicken. Or maybe a gyro. I have attempted to eat here twice. The first time, I ordered the chicken shawarma combo. I got no pita bread, it was chicken on top of tons of lettuce, onions and pickles. I had to pay extra for hummus. The chicken was so dry I went back and asked for something like some butter chicken sauce. He charged me for that as well. So, in all I paid $12 for my meal and I ended up eating 40% of it. Second time, I ordered just chicken and rice. I said "all I want is grilled chicken, rice and hummus." I paid $9 and got the grossest chicken, rice and again a ton of lettuce, onions and pickles. Sigh. This time I was also in the bathroom most of the night. I refuse to try again. read more

This is surprisingly delicious for a mall food court! We always get the chicken shawarma combos and/or chicken tenders and everything is hot and very flavorful. These shawarmas are different than any I've ever had and I always wish I'd ordered a second to eat later. read more

My sister and I ordered the chicken shawarma with fries, samosas, veggie rice, and baklava. We were first excited at the prospect of any in place so close to home, sadly this was not our experience. First of all I didn't get fries with my shawarma like I ordered, I got veggie rice. Second, none of the rice even good. It was gummy and the potatoes in it were hard. The samosas were mediocre, according to my sister because I didn't even want to try after my shawarma. My chicken shawarma was falling apart, so I opened it up and started eating it with a fork. That's when I noticed the hair in my sandwich. I knew it obviously wasn't mine since I have long red hair and not short black. If that wasn't enough, we didn't even get the order of baklava we wanted. It was something else entirely, and after seeing my sister's face after trying it, because I did not dare, I knew that we would never stop by again. read more

Delicious food. Was going to go to a fast food place next door, but am so glad I decided on this place. Got the butter chicken and a spicy chicken with rice for $8.99 and every bite was so tasty. The sauce was the perfect spice too. The guy there was helpful and let me taste the spiciness before buying. It was perfectly cooked. They also had Mediterranean there too. I went here today because i was so hungry. I wish I hadn't! I ordered fish and chicken nuggets. The fish were 3 small pieces, burned, its like they took it from the frozen foods isle at Aldi and fried them. And he gave me dry chicken nuggets that tasted like he reheated them from a frozen box, they were so hard my 3 year old son couldn't eat them. When i tried to show him the food and tell him what he'd given me, he laughed in my face and tried to quiet me down before the other customers could hear me. Would not eat here again, a waste of $20. Good place to get some fast Indian food. This place is setup just like your neighborhood Chipotle. The food is always flavorful and and fresh. Service is friendly and prices are very reasonable for what your ordering (essentially a plate or box at some other places). Granted, this place is in the mall food court but it was so bad I felt compelled to comment. Ordered a simple Fattoush Salad. I'd say there was more red cabbage in it than lettuce. Cabbage is not a part of Fattoush salad. It only had 1 green pepper in it. Disappointing. I also asked if I could have some pita with my saad which typically would come with it anywhere else. This was my first time at Masala Grill. Admittedly, I don't find myself out to Lakeside Mall very often, so imagine my surprise that when I just happened to be there, there was an excellent Indian place in the middle of the East side. Awesome. The service was great, and a guy named Ahmed was really cordial and made some great suggestions. I had the butter chicken and masala chicken with rice, as well as a samosa (it was actually two because the first one was so good). Let me just say that I'm a big fan of Indian food and I've eaten around several places in the Metro Detroit area only to find that Masala Grill has earned it's place on the 'Good Indian Food' places list. Definitely worth trying especially if you like Indian food. Some of the negative reviews that this place has are so confusing to me after having such a positive experience, especially since I didn't read any reviews before trying the place out. Not saying that those people are wrong, but they are. Go see Ahmed, go enjoy great Indian food. read more
