This was my first time visiting this Spice Village restaurant with friends, located in Tuckahoe. They have robust options on the menu and the prices are great, I almost didn't know what to choose! For appetizers we ordered potato samosa, they were very flavorful and tasted freshly made. I decided on the main dish that I wanted, the chicken vindaloo with a side of rice. The chicken was good but I do wish it was a bit spicier. Overall the dish had good seasoning and tasted authentic. Per my usual pairing I had a prosecco which made me enjoy my meal even more. I was visiting some friends, and they wanted to order takeout from Spice Village. I am a fan of Indian food, so I thought it sounded like an excellent idea. I wound up getting the Tandoori Chicken Tikka, which included chunks of tender, seasoned white meat. I thought it was definitely a good rendition, though it could have used a bit more heat. The portion was also on the smaller side. We shared the Kastoori Gobi, or cauliflower from the tandoori, which was tangy, crunchy, and delicious. The accompanying rice was seasoned and flavorful. The Garlic Naan was excellent with its loaded hit of garlic and its chewy texture. I would definitely order from Spice Village again when in the neighborhood. read more

I love indian food and this place solved my craving! The butter curry was so good and I was so happy they used the fresh chicken. I cannot bare with frozen or few days old chicken smell and they did not have that!! And it was so smooth. Loved that there were veggies in the bowl. Came with rice, the staff asked if we wanted more but we were already so full from the samosa and the naan. The naan was great though I wish it was more doughy. It felt a little bit too much like tortillas but still was awesome with curry! Chai was ok. Was expecting just regular black tea and milk kind of but it game with ginger and other spices. Food is under-spiced to the point of being borderline gross. Ordered the butter chicken, the meat was stringy and a bit chewy, almost as if it was boiled, definitely not the tender chunks I'm used to from Indian cuisine. I had been here a while ago, but went in tonight after they redecorated and revamped the menu. It has always been delicious, but now it is phenomenal!! I am horrible and can't remember the specific names, and the new menu isn't online yet. Here is the gist: Drinks: first cocktail reminded me of a gimlet but had mango infused into the gin. It was very refreshing, and I look forward to having one again maybe when they have outside seating. Second was a coconut daiquiri which was also delicious, not insanely sweet and very smooth. Both tasted high quality and refreshing. Food: we had samosas which were nice and crunchy outside and very soft and flavorful inside, classic. We got the spicy dosa which was amazing. It was pretty spicy for me but I'm a weakling, my husband who loves heat really loved it. Everything about the dosa was flavorful, full of spice and fragrant in an incredibly appetizing way. We got the chicken tikka tasting app, all good and I particularly loved the yogurt marinated one. Lamb khorma curry and naan, the sauce was delicious and very rich. By this point we were quite full and took most of the curry to go, but I am excited to have it tomorrow. Service: Everyone was lovely. The pacing waffled between them prematurely trying to clear our dishes to being a bit slow with others, but it was totally fine. It was nice to feel casual and unrushed. I think the only thing to be improved upon was the pacing. Honest thoughts. We ordered the Ratings from 1 to 10 -vegetable samosas 10/10 very large and filling. Comes with 2 per order. Very potato heavy on the veggie filling. It came with 3 sauces, this mint sauce, balsamic vinegar based sauce and a relish. They were all very good -butter chicken 5/10 I was honestly so disappointed in the tomato sauce it was in. It was a super sweet sauce and lacked spices. If you like sugary sauce then go for it. We got the butter chicken because they said it was the same sauce as the tikka Masala but with dark thigh meat. The pieces of meat were cut way to tiny. Tender but was very cheap on the meat and had lots of vegetables rather then meat in it like onions, peppers Garlic naan was a 9/10. So good. -drinks included mango lassi and shirley temple. They were both very delicious. I think portions wise everything was worth it. We left full. I would give this place another chance. Stopped by for take out lunch on a Monday. We got lunch boxes, large enough for minimum 2 meals. Lunch box comes with a main dish, rice, side of veggies and a piece of nan. I got the vegetable box which was Saag Paneer with a side of Chana Masala, both were really good. read more

The good: The buffet here is very good. Their breads are so good. Their garlic naan has a nice fluffy texture and they certainly don't skimp on the garlic. And this is the only Indian place I've found around here that serves Kerala-style parotta! The bad: Unfortunately, the takeout / delivery quality has suffered over the years. Tikka masala sauce is way too sweet. The daal makhani tastes exactly like the easy-prep indian cuisine pouches you can get at the grocery store...and considering those taste like baby food, that's pretty sad. The spice level for "medium" is pretty much non-existent. I don't know what the issue is with their paneer - maybe the pieces are too large, not fresh, or over/under cooked, because it comes out rubbery, cold in the middle, and flavorless. The dishes overall just feel...rushed, and flavors seem to be catered to people who think black pepper is spicy. My co-workers and I came here for their lunch buffet, and I was a bit hesitant because I don't typically like Indian food, but I was pleasantly surprised! The interior of the restaurant reminds one of fine dining, and the buffet is really nicely lined up. We were immediately greeted, and service was excellent. I'm going to butcher a few things because I'm not that familiar with Indian dishes, but my two favorite things were the garlic naan and the chicken tiki masala. There's unlimited garlic naan that is freshly baked and comes out every 10 minutes or so. It's extremely buttery, flaky, and crispy, and it tastes wonderful on its own or with the chicken tiki masala. On the second occasion that I went to Spice Village, the chicken tiki masala was the one buffet item that was almost gone, but I still had to go and scoop the remaining sauce. The chicken is not very tender, but the sauce is also buttery and flavorful. Another item that I enjoyed, albeit random, is the salad! I personally love my salads drenched in salad dressing, and they do it well. I definitely recommend this restaurant if you're in the area. It's only $11 for the buffet, and it's a huge steal. Tuckahoe ohh Tuckahoe you have a Gem in your downtown. Drove to the area after Yelp alerting me of another Indian Restaurant near where I was. Decided to not listen and drive to another Indian I had bookmarked and it was a hit. 1.- Tuckahoe has ample street parking and the place is near the Metro North Station. 2.- Its well placed and the decor is very authentic looking. 3.- The buffet is very ample and delicious. 4.- Food is spicy as the name implies 5.- Service was quick, great and very professional Definitely, a place to visit while around. The buffet is $15 on Saturdays and it was delicious and plenty of meat and veggies to go around. The best was the Goat and yukka. I went back for seconds and a bit more :) read more

Decided to give them another shot the other night since the last few times we've ordered from them the food was completely off. Well, I wish we didn't give them the benefit of the doubt and ordered from someplace else instead because the food was appalling. My sister asked for her bindi dish to be extra spicy and it was mild at best, plus salt-less. My dish was also saltless and tasteless. We ordered a few appetizers as well and they all arrived soggy and cold. My 2.5 year old absolutely loves pappadam and I gave her one and she kept spitting it out and pointing to her tongue and saying it's hot. After she did it about 3x I finally tried a pappadam and it was indeed very spicy. All you tasted was pepper and the taste stayed on your tongue for minutes after. Pappadam is not suppose to burn your tongue, nor taste like that. It tasted like pure black pepper and not the usual flavorful spices that are in it. They must have a new chef or new owners cause this is not the Spice Village we've grown to love and frequent the last 10 years. Also, in my last review I said how I was bloated for days after. Well, that hasn't changed because I still have the after effects to prove. Will never order again, and it's a shame because there are not many decent Indian restaurants in the area. Always the best Indian food in the area. I should have taken pictures but didn't think about it since I go here often. This is by far the best Indian place in the area. The flavors they produce are amazing. Their apps are well worth trying. My favorite is the calamari app and the eggplant app. Word of caution, NOT a complaint... Your food will take some time to be prepared. BUT... this is because they prepare everything from scratch. Nothing is frozen and pre-prepared. I only know this because my first time there about 5 years ago the waiter informed us of this. It was obviously worth the wait. So if you're in a rush, keep that in mind. Its easy to find a generic "Indian" restaurants in NYC and its' surounding suburbs; but it's nearly impossible to find an Indian restaurant that includes authentic South Indian basics on the menu (e.g. spicy fish mole, masala dosa, chana masala, etc). Spice Village has it all - paneer from Goa, Kashmiri spices from the north and calimari from tbe south! We called ahead and ordered a special paratha (parathta layered with beef chunks and veg wrapped in a banana leaf and steamed) for me and hubby and chicken biriyani for the kids. Becaise we called ahead, we were immediately seated and served within minutes. It was amazing! This is where the Indians dine. Spice Village is a hidden gem in Tuckahoe. It is an Indian restaurant frequented by Indians, so you know it's authentic. Our server was super nice. We had a great dinner at this hidden gem in Tuckahoe. The space is modern and clean. The service is good. My big bottle of Taj Mahal was served in a frosted mug- a very nice touch. We were started off with papadum. We over-ordered, but didn't care. We shared the assorted vegetarian appetizers and the masala dosa. The dosa was the size of a small child. If you are a group of 4 or less, don't bother with anything else. We surveyed the menu with chicken tikka masala, mixed tandoori grill, shrimp biryani and lamb phaal. I had never had lamb phaal before and absolutely loved it. The garlic naan and poori were very good. This is a contender for best Indian food in Westchester. After several takeouts from Spice Village, we have found underwhelming Indian food at high prices. The samosas were "belly bombers" - heavy, with way too much dough and mediocre fillings. The filling for the lamb samosas was mushy and unidentifiable - where's the lamb? The Chicken Saag was tasteless, with very little spinach in the sauce. The Chicken Tikka Masala was passable but nothing special. The only standout was the overpriced $19 okra dish (yes, $19 for a vegetable). Apparently saving their pennies, Spice Village shorted us one side of rice for our 3 entrees and unlike most Indian restaurants, they do not provide any small containers of accompaniments like mango chutney, mint chutney, raita, or anything else. Wish we had more options for Indian restaurants in Lower Westchester. read more

Strictly put the overall atmosphere was extremely unfriendly particularly from the servers who seemed to lack the proper etiquette when it comes to customer service. And now comes my assessment of the food. The Naan was horribly moist like a sponge. The Goat Curry smelled and tasted rancid like it had been out for weeks. Ordered two veggie dishes to go. A homemade cheese and green sauce and an eggplant dish. The homemade cheese dish was solid and went well with the nan. Perfect amount of heat. The rub: the eggplant dish was not edible. The top of it was a layer of oil. I get that all dishes have a bit of oil in the recipe and it will settle in an 11 minute drive home. Perhaps 15 door to door. What's not acceptable is that the top one inch of this dish is a layer of oil. It not appetizing, healthy or necessary. 3 generous stars for the nan and the homemade cheese dish ... and the benefit of the doubt with many decent ratings. Not here to slander establishments. My only gripe is that it didn't say that you get free rice with your meal so I ordered a rice dish in addition to a protein dish...so I had way too much rice. Horrible restaurant with terrible service. Do yourself a favor and don't go here!! Really long wait to get food, then waiter comes to ask if we will order appetizers. The waiter lied that he put our order in, which he didn't. When I asked him again, he said the food is almost done, which was again a lie. Another 20 minutes goes by, I tried to complain to the owner but he didn't care. We finally got to food, but it was too spicy to eat. The waiter misinformed me that it was not that spicy.
