I love this pie shop and I'm so happy they decided to come to Oak Park!!! My friend and I just left and the food was good and the people were nice. I had the biscuit with strawberry jam. My friend had lemon meringue pie and a slice of quiche. My biscuit was simply delicious. I could taste the creamy butter and the strawberry jam made for a really scrumptious afternoon snack. The biscuit is so large I saved half for later. My friend was smart and didn't eat breakfast before so she was able to finish her entire meal. She told the lemon meringue was really good. In fact she stopped mid sentence to say how great the pie tasted. I can't wait to try some more of the baked goods. I've had the peanut better cookies, the brown butter cookie, the key lime pie, molasses cookie. They were all fantastic! read more

Came in to check out! We liked it! The cocoa with the square of heavy whipped cream was delicious! We tried the mulberry coriander muffin and the chocolate cream and peppermint pie! Been to this bakery several times and everything I have tasted has been delicious! I love the savory handpies (like seriously, can't stop thinking about them). I picked up a Key Lime pie to bring home to have after dinner with friends. We all agreed it was the best Key Lime pie we had ever had. I think they make it with crack!! Yes the prices are on the high side but it's an occasional treat not an everyday thing. And I don't mind paying for quality. Also happy to support a local business. read more

This is a small shop with a few seats serving sweets, savories and beverages. Oh how I have been jonesing to get to this place! Sooo the goods: 1 chocolate chip cookie, 1 brown butter cookie, 1 slice of citrus cream pie and 1 slice of bourbon pecan and chocolate pie. The cookies are verrry good! They have a great texture- slight crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The bourbon pie is ok. The citrus pie is f&#$@$g gold!!! Deeelicious!! The citrus pie and cookies warrant future visits and since it's conveniently located right off the Oak Park Green Line train stop that is definitely doable. However, for those 4 items I spent $19.43. I dont recall seeing any prices posted for the bakery items but I could be wrong(I did for the drinks). I honestly am not a cheap person, especially when it comes to my pastries but damn! I don't know how I feel about that. It won't stop me from returning though. I may even order myself a birthday pie. read more

I was not disappointed by my first visit. In fact, it was so good I can't wait to go back to try more items on their menu. I purchased a cinnamon roll, purple potato and cheddar hand pie, a slice of chocolate pie and a chai with almond milk to go. The cinnamon roll covered with the best cream cheese frosting and the slice of chocolate pie were huge and decadent and could easily feed a few people. It's a little pricey but the quality of ingredients and generous portions absolutely make it worth it. I am so happy we have such a wonderful new bakery in Oak Park. read more

We had a friend bring us a piece of pie from here. The flavor was *allegedly* coconut and pineapple, but we were hard pressed to identify those flavors. I'm from the South. I've been making fruit and cream pies for over 20 years, taught by two grandmothers, each with different pie crust recipes they swore were the "best." I'm familiar with chess and custard pies, to say the least. I was excited to taste this one as I grew up with both coconut cream pie and pineapple pie and make them often. Here's why the pie got one star: 1.) Overly, overly sweet filling. This is coming from a guy who loves sweet stuff. This pie made creme brulee taste light and refreshing. 2.) Crust was insanely hard and salty. I've never had crust quite like it. Most good crust is tender and flaky. This crust was hard, brittle, and very salty, with no tenderness. 3.)The bottom of the crust was intensely chewy where the liquid had seeped down beyond the crust and caramelized on the bottoms and side. We had quite a time scraping the chewy caramel from our teeth. 4.) The flavor was overwhelmingly raw condensed milk, which was the biggest disappointment. Rather than tasting like egg, cream, vanilla, pineapple, or coconut, we agreed that the predominant flavor was canned sweetened condensed milk. Sadly it tasted just like unprocessed sweetened condensed milk, as opposed to how the milk seems to transform in Hello Dolly/Magic/7-Layer bars. That leaves me with one star, which sadly can't be removed. This pie didn't deserve even that single star, my apologies to the baker for being so blunt. Please remove this one from your repertoire! In the end, I wasn't quite sure what kind of pie I was tasting, if it was indeed a pie at all. The crust was unfamiliar to me, despite having made probably 200+ pies in my life. The filling didn't taste like much besides sweetened condensed milk. Maybe I would have given more stars had it been aptly called a "Sweetened Condensed Milk Tart." read more

I make my own bread and my own jelly so when I go into a bakery I'm looking for quality and something that I won't usually make like a chocolate confection. I walked in on a Tuesday 9 a.m. and there was less to choose from than I expected. I'm not a quiche eater and I didn't want pie, and the blueberry muffins were of white flour, which I find boring, and looked a little oily, so I bought a chocolate chip cookie to go. I was a bit taken aback by the price, 3.50, but I took it home and had it with tea. It was one of the best chocolate chip cookies I've ever had. Although I make mine with butter, they use a decent chocolate and a great deal of it in their cookie. While I wish they had more variety and more whole wheat, I will go back for another chocolate dessert in the shape of a cookie. read more

My family and I are regulars at Spilt Milk because the food is so insanely good. The biscuits are the best I've ever had and are often served warm because they sell them so quickly. If you have to wait, do it, I promise it's worth it. I'm not always a fan of cookies, but the brown sugar cookie is enormous and I can't put it down. The flavor is ridiculous. Finally, the key lime pie is truly epic. From top to bottom, this pie couldn't be any more perfect. It's worth every penny. In addition to having great food, Spilt Milk has an amazing staff. On my daughter's fourth birthday, they all stepped out of the kitchen to sing to her. :) We are so in love with everything about Spilt Milk. It will forever be our favorite bakery. read more

This place is a hidden gem in Oak Park. The small space is quaint and adorable. I loved how cozy they made their space feel! It felt like the perfect place I would want to be a rainy fall day, which it was. I bought a apple pie for a friend. She said it was delicious with perfect texture to the crust filled with so many apples. I tried the banana bread. At first I was worried as it looked dry...I was wrong. It was bursting with flavor and moisture was held in the bread. The crust had a little crunch which I prefer. I will definitely be back! The only con I have for spilt milk is as others have said, cost. But it is worth it for special occasions! read more

Just stopped by the bakery today while on a short stay in Chicago, I could smell it from across the street. They've only just opened recently but their pastry game is top notch! The scones we fantastic and I took home a pot pie to enjoy later. The sisters that own it were so sweet and friendly. Whatever may have been the issue with the coffee (as I saw in other reviews) seems to have been worked out now as it was delicious and strong. If I'm ever in the area again this place will absolutely be a stop I make. read more

Just tried this place, one or two doors down from the green line/Oak Park stop. I parked on the street. Super simple and cute interior. Just a few tables and counter with stools. Coffee was solid. The bacon, egg and cheese on a biscuit was delicious!!!! It was big. Biscuit was amazing-not a hint of dryness, with perfectly cooked bacon and sharp cheddar cheese. Only problem was it took 8 minutes to heat up in the oven. I was driving home and not in a hurry. But if you were running to catch the train, it might not be the best choice. However, they had a bunch of scones, muffins and huge cookies ready to grab and go. I also tried a lemon poppyseed scone, which was yummy. All the baked goods looked so crumbly and delicious. I'll definitely be back to try their pies, which they had a lot. If their biscuits were any indication, I bet their pie crust is amazing. read more

This is the most special bakery I've ever been in. Wonderful cooks, incredible food, and a really cozy place to start your day. There are many delicious options to chose from, from sweet to savory. They use the freshest ingredients, which you can truly taste and notice. Try any of the pies with a cup of coffee, trust me. The store is also decorated just right. It is with that in mind that i am so happy to leave a good review, no not a good review a great review. I've been to Spilt Milk probably 5 times and have enjoyed every visit. The Chocolate pie is the best i have ever had and the cookies are very good, the Chicken pot pie was enjoyable but pricey. If you haven't tried this place yet you need to and did i mention the chocolate pie????? Oh one more thing i had the brown sugar cookie and the next time i was in mentioned to the owner a suggestion i had for the cook and upon a future visit she told me she agreed and they played with the recipe, who does that, i'll tell you who a small business that listens to their customers. Excited that they were finally open, I stopped by on my way home last week. I took home 2 slice of pie--key lime (for me) and heritage apple (for my husband). The key lime was probably the best I've ever had anywhere--including Key West. I'm not a huge fan of graham cracker crust, but theirs is delicious! The Key lime filling was perfect--not too sweet, not too tart, and really prominent key lime flavor. The homemade whipped cream on top was just barely sweet, exactly the way I like it. I had a small bite of the apple. The apples were perfectly cooked (not mushy at all) with a good dose of cinnamon and just enough sweetness. My hubbie loved it. It was SO good! read more
