The staff was really friendly. I got there right at closing and they still let me to order a slice of pie. I tried the apple pie. It was kind of small, but good enough for me since I just wanted to sample it. The pie was a little over $6 which wasn't worth it to me become it wasn't the best apple pie I've ever had. The pie was okay, but not really as decadent as I would have liked. There seemed to be more apple than crusts which was sort of a bummer for me. I really enjoy Spilt Milk, but they seem to continue to have hiccups. When it gets busy, they use a weird system of giving you a fake playing card and have you wait on the side for them to give you your order. But each time I have experienced this, the system has never worked well. They bring out orders at random, and I have ended up waiting 10-15 minutes for someone to give me a cookie or handpie. I understand waiting for a large pie order since that takes time, but having to wait on the side for someone to throw a muffin into a bag seems an unproductive way to keep the line short. And this is also the second time that I have been given the wrong handpie, since they keep different flavors in the same basket. Obviously, that system is also not working. So really enjoy them, but they still need to work out their workflow issues. read more

Every single thing I've gotten here has been a winner. Get in early enough to get your hands on a breakfast sandwich, then buy all the pies to horde in your refrigerator, standing at the door with a knife to keep your loved ones at bay. Wow this place is delicious! It has been here for a while, but I was slow to check it out. Really glad I did. I usually come on Saturday morning for breakfast, and get a slice of pie for later. If it is hot outside, the space can get rather warm so consider getting food to go. The service if friendly but the dining area is very small. There is not really a posted menu, but everything available is pretty much out for view with corresponding pricing. I highly recommend the breakfast sandwiches. They are a bit slow to come out but super delicious. I also like the egg in a biscuit, which is as simple as it sounds but the sum far exceeds the parts. I can also highly recommend the pie. As of yet there is not a single thing I have ordered that I didn't think was fantastic! Parking can get a little tight during busy times. First of all, I will say the food was incredible. The problem that caused me to write a review is the service. My friend and I tried this place for the first time Sunday, we both got a cookie and a slice of pie. We ordered and waited for ours to be wrapped to go. While we were waiting another customer came in AFTER us and ordered an entire apple pie. Well, 5 min later they came to my friend and told her they sold out of the pie that had been cut and instead of cutting slices from the last apple pie they were going to force her to take a refund or pick a different pie because the GUY THAT CAME IN WELL AFTER US had ordered a whole apple pie. That's not right! She was there first, why should she compromise? Why couldn't he have been the one forced to pick a different pie? That's very, very poor business practice. It was early and they are very busy, I'm sure they would've sold the rest of the pie slices. That's really not the point though, it was our first time and what a real taste of SOUR MILK. My friend was really mad but polite about it, she vowed to never go back. Extreme prejudice and bad business ethics don't get overwritten by good food. It's a shame. read more

The breakfast sandwiches are the richest, most decadent, most amazing thing you can eat at n a weekend morning. These are the reason god created hot sauce, and I am not a hot sauce fan. Stopped in for breakfast. The biscuit with egg, bacon and cheese was delicious as was the sugar biscuit with maple glaze. We also grabbed a snickerdoodle and brown butter sugar cookie for later. Not really cookie sized more like a hub cap. Everything was wonderful however the brown butter sugar cookie was in a class above all by itself. YUM! I'm here every week, it's that good! The hand pies are not to be missed. They change often but I haven't had a bad one yet. If you want something even more filling, the breakfast sandwhich is huge and delicious. Normally I'm doing a savory breakfast, but for a sweet treat the scones are lovely, especially the herbs de provance one. This is my favorite pie place ever. I've been to Hoosier Mama, Spinning J, First Slice, and Bang Bang but this place beats them all. Their crust is the perfect amount of flaky and salty, no matter what filling is in it. The price point is pretty equal to Bang Bang or Hoosier, but better quality. The Citrus Cream is an inbetween to a Keylime and a Orange Cream - it ends up light and fluffy with that citrus burst. Not sure what type of crumb shell it was in but it paired great. Aside from their perfect pies they cookies are also great. I think the best one is the Mexican Chocolate. Not too spicy or chocolate lay. It was chewy and delish. I also ended up buying one of their camping mugs because it was so darn cute. It's worth the drive out of the city for this amazing crust. read more

Not a Huge Fan! It's a cute tiny spot for some quick pastries and coffee but honestly, the cost does not match the portion size nor taste! It's good but not "blow your mind" great! Once I went there, the person cut a nice generous slice but it slightly touched the counter while she was attempting to put inside a box. She immediately stated "I'll get a new piece" Fine! But when I tell you the next slice was a third of that... I was shocked! And again, it tastes just ok! Also FYI, THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CASH! Weird, I know! My third visit here, (fourth if you count the postcard party they hosted,) and it's been consistently great. They've clearly got some magic down with their pastry. Quiche, pie, biscuits -- all extraordinary. And the chocolate cream pie -- total total perfection. I walked home a couple of weeks ago having chaperoned a middle school field trip (it really wasn't that bad, but I convinced myself I needed a moment) and so I stopped in for a slice of their chocolate cream pie. It was pretty much my version of that "Calgon take me away" ad from the 80's. I was transported, and definitely to a very good place. Today's quiche was everything I love (asparagus, peppers, chevre, baby potatoes...) and it came with a 5-star salad to boot. I had no idea it would come with salad, and you know -- typically a "side salad" with a slice of quiche is nothing to write home (or Yelp) about. But this salad was AMAZING!! Flavorful arugula, perfect cherry tomatoes, sweet celery, and little chunks of aged goat cheese in a nice, light, tangy vinaigrette. Seriously -- I just thought I was having quiche -- this was totally above and beyond. Service is friendly, and the space is very cosy and laid back. To begin with, I was welcomed by two lovely young ladies, working up a storm...SISTERS! The displayed apple pie was missing a slice and when I peeked "inside" I wanted to photograph the work of art....thinly sliced apples enveloped by a caramel-colored crust. I'm going back for that! Now, the good stuff:..I bought a buttery yet crunchy ginger pastry. Delectable! Delayed my gratification and enjoyed it at home with some harvest tea. I'm looking forward to spring. Stopped in and bought a biscuit this morning and OMG!!!!! It was awesome!!! It's huge so I cut it into thirds to eat a little at a time. I ended up eating the WHOLE thing. I felt like such a little pig - but a happy one - smile. I got extra butter and extra jelly (they make it from scratch - raspberries and blueberries) YUMMY!!!! Although I'm thoroughly and completely hooked on the biscuits, I will try other things when I can afford the calories. I don't live in Oak Park but a coworker who does told me about this place. I was so excited to finally stop in and try Spilt Milk, as it has been all the rage the last few months and the talk of town. I would like to say that I caught them on a bad day, but I don't believe this to be the case... we ordered an empinada and a slice of quiche to enjoy in the shop. We were told just a few minutes and it would be out. Tick tock. 20 minutes later, just the empinada was brought to the table., and it wasn't even warmed up. We assumed the lengthy wait was due to heating up our items. About 10 mins later, 30 total, the quiche came. The first two bites of the quiche were great, then I got to the middle and it was totally cold. How could it take that long to deliver and still be at refrigerator temp?! I could only eat about 1/2 of my order, because who wants cold quiche?! So I went back to the counter and placed an order for a breakfast sandwich & a coffee, to eat in. I kid you not we waited for another 30mins! As we waited, two more customers ordered the same sandwich. One was to go the other to eat in...The gentleman that came in after us got his while we were left to wait. At this point we were like this is just ridiculous. My husband finally asked about ours. The girl at the counter seemed totally confused (even though she herself to my order and money) and they informed us that they just ran out! I'm sorry, What?!?! The girl at the counter apologized profusely and offered baked goods free of charge. We declined, and simply asked for a refund. She was clearly frazzled, and I don't blame her. Apparently there was another mix up before we got there. I'm not sure if they use a ticket system for orders or not. The girl taking orders would just yell back to the kitchen and they would repeat it. I want to end this on a positive note. Despite the delays and set backs we encountered the food and coffee was quite good. Maybe we will have to give it another go. read more

oh my word!! Awesome! You come in and smell heaven. It's intoxicating. I had the spirit ginger tea and a mexican chocolate cookie. These cookies are unpretentious, but absolutely mind blowing. The depth of chocolate and flavor in the mexican chocolate cookie is divine. You get all these flavors and textures. It's crisp, but deep, fudgy chocolate with touch of spice and cinnamon. I was lucky to sample the blackberry oat bar and you taste each ingredient. The tea is ginger flavor bomb and soothing. At the shop, you can just unwind and any worry you have melts away. The cookies and tea are definitely something to savor! Comfort and soothing, and delish. I'm in love. I had the opportunity to meet Molly who is co-owner and baker. Spilt Milk is one of my favorite local places! I really miss taking my daughter there and coloring while eating banana bread, or sipping coffee and eating pie or quiche with family and friends or watching my youngest take her first steps to owner Meg! You know that will be one of the first places we dine in again when this is pandemic is over. Until then we are enjoying coffee and treats to go. Owners, Meg and Molly have really shown how businesses can adjust during this time. They were some of the first businesses to close their dining room even before the official order. They set up an online ordering system that is the BEST I have seen anywhere. They have curbside no contact pickup (and offer delivery too), they place it on a table outside the door when you arrive so that you can maintain 6 feet distance from the staff and others at all times. They have been offering groceries too as the community has a need for them!! Ground beef, chicken, eggs, milk, coffee, and they even made portions of yeast available because there was a community need for it! So thankful for Meg, Molly and the whole Spilt Milk crew during this time and always. Spilt Milk is everything a local business is about, community, friendly staff and owners, and really great food and drinks! When we all think "support local" this is the first place I think of. I couldn't imagine this community without Spilt Milk. Everything they bake is so delicious too but I will save that long list of things I love for another review read more

This new cafe is fantastic. All the baked goods are delicious. The people who work there are knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The only draw back I have is the seating is limited so the option to stay and have some delicious food is possibly unlikely. Might need to plan on taking your food to go. read more
