The pastries from here were unique and absolutely delicious! My favorite item was the tart cherry turnover. It looked kind of strange but don't let the interesting shape scare you because the flavors were heavenly. The sugar on top and the croissant added such a wonderful crunch and sweet flavor. The cherry inside was incredibly fresh and perfectly sour, it paired well with the sweetness of the croissant. It is one of my absolute favorite pastries I've ever had and I cannot wait to get another one! I also tried their caramel apple cider pie slice, which I thought was okay. It is hard to compete with the tart cherry turnover but it seemed way too watery to me. I like a moist pastry but this was excessively wet and it fell apart completely. That being said, the flavors were good, I just didn't like the wet texture or the crust that much. My least favorite item was the pumpkin bread slice. I thought it was very plain and lacked any pumpkin flavoring. The only part that was edible was the part with icing on the top because the icing tasted great, but the rest of it was quite boring. For my drink, I tried the masala chai, which was decent but nothing too special. Overall, get that tart cherry turnover and you'll be thanking me! read more

While en route to an appointment, I drove by here and immediately made a u-turn because I love desserts and I wanted to see what this was all about. There were quite a few appetizing desserts to choose from and I had a hard time. In the end, I chose the brown buttered sugar cookie and the chocolate chip cookie which were both delish. I also ordered 2 chicken pot pies to go & they reheated well after being in the freezer for 2 weeks. The pot pies are 2 servings each. They're meaty, big, & the crust was so good & flakey. read more

I was told the fruit pies displayed for sale in the case could not be sold as they were too hot. 2. I was informed the quiche I just paid for, would be served cold, straight from the refrigerator. "We do not heat items, yet you can sit on our fully furnished patio to eat it. " "We do not have room for a microwave or toaster oven," even though the space is quite large and some of it unused. "Yes, we should have told you about the inability to heat food, before you purchased it," yet no offer to refund us. Really? I'm not sure what else to say except I will not return. read more

Even if there were to be spilt milk all over the place, this would still be one of the cutest bakery/cafes I've ever been too. The aesthetic is very charming especially with them dealing with a small space, it doesn't feel cramped at all. The mugs that bear their adorable logo give the delicious beverages a special feel. There are cute personal touches everywhere. Now to the food/drinks. We had a vegetarian quiche slice and pumpkin pie slice and they both tasted very fresh and like they used quality ingredients. The pumpkin pie tasted very smooth and with just a touch of sweetness (not like you're licking a sugar packet). My chai tea also had just the right amount of sweetness. I've only tried their chocolate chip cookie and it's probably one of the best I've ever had. It's a hard on the outside, chewy on the inside, and the right amount of sweetness. I went their last weekend and I've been craving their cookies since. They may be pricey but it's definitely worth it since it's high quality, fresh and deliciously made pastries. I am embarrassed to say that It took my awhile to check this place out. In a world of mass produced overly processed food, this little neighborhood gem is a beacon of hope and deliciousness. The almond tea cake was just out of this world. And their cookies, are just next level baking artistry. They didn't last long in our house. Run don't walk to try this bakery. SO here's the thing. I am walking distance. Having a small neighborhood bakery is what I love about living in Oak Park, but they are not the only bakery. I fell in LOVE with their Chicken Pot pies. SO much so I purchased several as gifts for my coworkers. This was when the pies were less than $8.00. I stopped by today and saw the price had been raised to $14.00. Cheesecake Factory's Potpie can feed a small village and it's less expensive than the "SINGLE" serving pot pie sold at Spilt Milk. They added a little note that says feeds two, but that would be if you are feeding 2 children. Living in Oak Park for almost 10 years, I am personally offended by the price. I feel they are taking advantage of a neighborhood that supports has supported them since their doors opened. Don't get me wrong, I do not have a issue paying for a good meal, but to charge $14.00 for a single serving pot pie is like charging $50.00 for a salad that consist of three pieces of lettuce, a berry, some ridiculous dressing made of foam! There's new bakery on the corner of Oak Park Ave and Lake St. That's where I will take my business going forward. read more

I had their key lime pie, Mexican chocolate cookie, and a black coffee while catching up with some friends. I can see it getting crowded if you come with a party larger than four. There are only a couple medium tables with the rest seating two. The sweet and tartness was perfect; it's not coating your entire mouth of sugar like the heavily processed pies you get at chain stores and groceries, and you're not getting an overly saturated crust. I would gladly pay $30 for a whole pie to take to house or office parties. The Mexican chocolate cookie tastes like pure chocolate but has that mellow texture of a sugar cookie and even has a nice aftertaste. Good bakery goods, but the customer service is poor. There will be 4-5 workers behind the counter and you can order a muffin with no coffee, and it still will take them 5-10 minutes to get it. Even though the items are baked and displayed. It appears to be poorly managed and everyone looks confused and unsure what to do. They would do well to have a professional restaurant organizer come in and assess their process. As a result, if you want to grab a muffin as you wait for the train, then this is not the the place to go. They are very disorganized and slow. read more

I have never had anything from here. However, I placed an order Saturday for pickup Friday. Since a blizzard was scheduled for Thurs and Friday, I called on Tuesday to see if I could pick up Thursday. I was told NO. I explained our situation and was still told NO. The next day, Wed, I called to cancel and was told I missed the cancellation window. I asked what it was and the girl told me she wasn't sure, that her manager just told her to say that. They would NOT let me cancel with 48 hours notice, nor change a pick-up with 72 hours notice. There is nothing on their website regarding cancellation or change of pick-up. I had no choice but to call my credit card company and dispute. I was looking forward to trying their pie, but the POOR short-sighted customer service has left a really bad taste in my mouth. read more

I've been wanting to eat and work at Spilt Milk (I love the name btw) for over 4 months now. However, I just got the chance because I finally made it in time before it closed. I ordered the chocolate chess slice. The pie was ok. The chocolate was very rich. Their chocolate pie is usually left over when I come, which begs the question why do they make chocolate pie in abundance. I think they should consider making more apple and fruit pies. The real reason I bought the pie was to work in the space. I think it is such a cute space. It is very quaint and rustic. I love the bar style seating that faces the window. The two complaints I have about the space is that there is no WiFi and it comes so early (5pm!). It's such a great place to work, it's a shame they don't WiFi as I would for sure become a consistent customer because of the space. read more

I know it's crazy expensive, but i LOVE this bakery. Their biscuits are seriously to die for. I grew up with a southern mama who knows how to make biscuits. But these are out of this world. And the black bottom maple pie! I seriously could eat the whole pie. Their pies have become my thanksgiving tradition. I am drooling just thinking about picking mine up tomorrow. Their quiche is also phenomenal. Last spring we ordered 6 quiches for a brunch i was hosting and didn't have the energy to cook. I sent my husband to pick them up and he didn't realize there was more than 1 to bring home. Wow these people are so sweet and nice! I know it's CHEESY but a little bit of kindness can go a long way. I went in with my boyfriend and I ordered a mini cookie and a slice of veggie quiche. The guy brought me two cookies instead of one just for shits and gigs! Then he said it'd be about five minutes for the quiche. When that came it was sooo good. It was cheese, kale, potato, and sweet potato. Honestly it was delicious. Then when we finished, a different person came to clean up our plates and started a funny conversation with us about how clean we were with stacking the plates. Me and my fiancée have come here countless times (sometimes every weekend), and we have never had a bad experience with any food item or beverage served here. The service is polite and engaged, the pie is incredible and always has changing flavors. The biscuits are rave-worthy. Looking forward to when Split Milk works out the kinks. I've been there twice so far and here's my constructive feedback because I want to see them thrive: Pros: Awesome sweet pies! I ordered 2 pies in advance. When I went to pick them up, they had forgotten the order and offered to deliver them to me later in the day. When I said that wouldn't work because I was picking them up enroute to a football party in Bolingbrook, they offered two pies from their case at no charge! I felt bad that they would be missing out on the revenue, so offered to pay for one, but they would not take my money. I was very appreciative that they went so far to make it right! To die for biscuits! Super tasty bacon and cheese for their breakfast sandwich! Cons: Coffee is weak (even the dark roast) and too $$$ for the two sizes they offer. The egg on the biscuit breakfast sandwich was cold in the middle (see pros above for the other components) and the sandwich itself is too messy to eat because of the size/flakiness of the biscuit and the size of the egg square in the middle (the sandwich is close to 6 in tall). Thankfully I was eating it at home and could heat up the egg and use a fork/knife to eat the sandwich. Since breakfast sandwiches are usually eaten on the go (especially by the local commuters), I would have been disappointed if I was eating it on the go because it would have crumbled all over me. So, the ladies should consider this and see if they can make any modifications (maybe use a croissant). Bottom line, I will continue to try their offerings and look forward to when they work out kinks and my 3 stars can move to 4 or 5 stars in the near future! And, I wish I had ordered another plain biscuit, because it was oh so good!!! read more

This place is dangerous, you can go in and get what you want in about 2 minutes before catching the oak park greenline. Everything I've tried has been so delicious. I tried the buttermilk biscuit the other day expecting a typical biscuit but it was ridiculously good. I was hesitant because it cost more than I would pay for 1 biscuit but it was worth it and really filling too. The lemon poppyseed muffin is a new fav of mine - it's not sweet but it has a great sugar crust to add sweetness. It's perfect. The coffee is great too - metric coffee. Great service and selection. I tried a blueberry coriander muffin that was phenomenal! The muffin was enormous and the coriander was surprisingly subtle with the blueberry. It was big enough to be a small pie. All the pastries looked impeccable, and I wish I could have tried more today (next time!). Coffee is from Metric, and very good. Inside it's a clean, brightly lit space, though a little difficult to find from the street (there isn't an obvious exterior sign yet). I will definitely come back and bring friends. read more

Meg and Molly were both sweet and pleasant to talk with, and they make some mean pastries. Man, I want to like this place and give them business but they're KILLING ME with the terrible coffee. How can you charge $3 for an 8oz coffee that is so weak, it tasted like hot water? Metric is a good bean and this place is just not brewing it properly. Would like to see them review the brewing process and then the pricing and sizes - at $3 a small should be 12oz and needs to be strong, solid coffee. read more

Every year on my birthday I go to split milk to get their amazing cinnamon rolls. If I don't get my cinnamon roll on my birthday then did I have a birthday? It's that fucking good. This rating has nothing to do with the service or the atmosphere this place extremely adorable ! Everyone was extremely welcoming and very attentive. However the pie extremely disappointing. I was so excited to see coconut cream pie on the menu I Love Love Love coconut cream pie. This definitely was not that. It was whipped cream with coconut shedders in it like what ??? I kept looking for the coconut custard that should be the filling of the pie and it was no where to be found. There was no flavor to this pie at all!!!!!!! What a find this place turned out to be! We stumbled upon it for breakfast the other day because it was close to our Airbnb. Our family ordered a variety of things so I was able to try many different items, all of which were stellar. The breakfast sandwich was superb: we got the Hammy without the hammy, and it was still delicious. The brown sugar maple scone was flaky and flavorful, and the cinnamon bun was amazing, with icing that was more cream cheese and less frosting...yum! Also grabbed a slice of chocolate cream pie to go and I just finished that up now and holy cow it was good. So happy we found Spilt Milk! read more
