I'm going middle of the road here. Despite the numerous jokes and complaints about Spirit, I have yet to have a poor experience. Knock on wood. I may fly Spirit a few times per year because they offer direct flights to some of my regular destinations at competitive price points. My general experience includes a quick check-in and printing of my luggage tag at the kiosk and smooth luggage drop-off. Sometimes the line is very short and sometimes I have a short wait. I have received polite customer assistance at both the kiosk and the luggage drop-off. Astonishingly, most of my flights have had on-time departures and arrivals. A few times, I've even experienced early arrivals. The long and short of it is that I have had reasonably good experiences and will continue to use Spirit Airlines for as long as that remains to be the case. read more

My wife, a friend, and I were flying from Boston to Houston with a connection in Orlando, all under one single reservation. The flight from Boston departed 45 minutes late, despite perfect weather and the aircraft already being at the gate. When we landed in Orlando, the plane sat on the runway for another 25 minutes, leaving us with almost no time for our connection. Even so, we ran and reached the gate within minutes, while passengers were still boarding. As soon as the supervisor saw us arriving, he closed the door right in front of us and said in a rude tone: "The flight is closed, nothing can be done." I explained that we were coming from their own delayed flight, on the same reservation, and he arrogantly repeated: "You need to be here two hours before." He completely ignored that Spirit was the reason we were late. The only polite employee was a young woman named Paola, who told us the flight was already full due to overbooking and that nothing could be done. When I told her I was recording, she called the supervisor, who came back only to tell us that we would get no hotel, no food, claiming the missed connection was "due to weather," which was absolutely false. When he realized I was recording him as well, he refused to assist my wife and me any further and sent us to "customer service," where we finally received boarding passes for the next day. My experience with Spirit Airlines was extremely frustrating. During the week of my trip, I received two messages asking if I wanted to sell my seat because the flight appeared to be overbooked. I declined. On the day of the trip, I received a message saying that my flight had been canceled and that the next available flight would only be the following day. I went to the Spirit counter at the airport to try to find a solution so I wouldn't lose an entire day of my trip. The agent said she would check what she could do, but instead printed my boarding pass with the original flight time and told me to go to the gate and try to board, giving the impression that the flight was still operating. I waited at the gate for quite some time believing the flight was still valid. Later I discovered the flight was actually delayed and that the information I received at the counter was incorrect, which caused me to waste time waiting without knowing what was really happening. I specifically chose and paid for this flight because it had a very short connection. However, when they finally rebooked me, they placed me on a flight with a much longer connection, without considering the itinerary I originally selected and paid for. As a result, I lost an entire day of my trip, a day of work, and my child missed school due to the unexpected travel changes. The lack of communication, incorrect information, and lack of support for passengers made this an extremely disappointing experience. read more

We then waited for buses to take us back to the terminal, where we had to re-enter through TSA lines, retrieve our luggage, and go through customs again. We then formed a giant Congo line to go to the parking area to wait another hour for vans to take us to a hotel for the night. No explanation was given regarding a next day plane (because it didn't exist). Out of desperation, many booked on other airlines for the next day. We went to the Spirit counter the next day, to try to ask for a solution for our flight to Orlando. We ended up spending the day flying to Detroit in order to reach Orlando. I have flown Spirit Airlines countless times and have never had an issue with them. Yes, you have to pay for your bags and honestly, any perceived savings is just that, a perceived savings. My trip this time was to Las Vegas, Nevada. I really had no issues. For my flight to Las Vegas, I was able to get a non-stop flight, but on the way home to Orlando, Florida, I had to deal with a layover in Houston, Texas. It was a bit under two hours, so it was not that huge of a deal. I know Spirit gets some negative comments about, but I never had an issue. Yes, they charge for bags and whatnot, but it is what it is. I have used Spirit for many trips and again, I had no issues on this trip, nor can I recall a time that I had any serious issue. Spirit has been around for awhile now and I believe that they are the fastest growing airline in the country. I would recommend Spirit as an airline. read more

Canceled less than 2 hours outside of their 24hour refund window, and they absolutely refused to refund, said I could only have a reservation credit that had to be used in the next year. Due to original family matters I was not going to be able to take any vacations soon, so I tried to transfer the credit to a family member but apparently that is not allowed either. And on top of all that, spirit stopped service to the airports near me. So I have absolutely no way to use the credit even if I could take vacation. and they don't care. They refused to give any form of resolution. If there are any lawyers out there who would like to help me sue them, I have record of one of their agents saying they could help me with transferring the credit, then we got disconnected and once I got through to a person again now they say it's absolutely not possible for them to do. If transferring and not leaving the airport, then not too bad. If coming into the airport, then 50% possible disastrous experience. When you check in, they randomly choose you to see an agent. Then the lines for the agent are quite long. And if you're traveling internationally there is a high chance you have to fill out some immigration forms that aren't told to you until you get to the agent. The airline fails to put that in their confirmation email, which I think that can be helpful. The spirit airline terminal at the end in Gate 9 is quite chaotic. the bathrooms aren't clean, nowhere to seat, can't hear overhead, and every gates check in spills into the next boarding gate. Quite chaotic for sure. We transferred in Orlando where we didn't leave the airport and it was relatively smooth. just chaotic terminal. This time we left the airport to stay overnight and came back in and wasted 1 hour in a line for an agent since the machine randomly chose us to do so. It was an experience that would make me not consider transferring in this city again unfortunately. read more

My flight to Orlando was cancelled and it wasn't until I got to the airport that I was told this. They are disorganized and unprofessional especially in Orlando. at this point they need to restructure, get all new people and start over because they have failed miserably. I am deeply disappointed in how Spirit Airlines handled damage to my mother's walker during our travel over a year ago. Despite reporting the incident in the correct airport (Orlando, FL) and within the required timeframe, Spirit continues to claim no report was filed and keeps investigating the wrong airport entirely (Myrtle Beach, SC). This was not just any item, it was a medical mobility device essential to my mother's independence. It was dropped and damaged, and then having Spirit refuse accountability, has been frustrating and heartbreaking. Even after multiple correspondences, Spirit keeps hiding behind their "4-hour rule" and insists no claim was filed, which is simply false. We made the report right away at the correct location, yet the company refuses to pull the records from the correct station and keeps sending canned apologies that don't resolve anything. I expected better care for a passenger with special needs, and at minimum, I expected honesty and accountability. Sadly, Spirit has shown neither. The check process was quick and swift. I got to check in with my phone. Once I was there, I printed my boarding pass just in case my phone died. I used the kiosks without any help since I was familiar with it. I did get greeted by the staff in a cheerful manner. Once on the plane, everything went smoothly with seating. Flight took off on time and landed early. I would say the spacing is a bit tight for anyone over 5'7. Also you have to pay for wifi now which was surprising. I have not flown with them in a few years. I didn't buy a seat ticket, so I sat all the way in 30f, and I was really nauseous . Sitting in the back was rough because it was louder for some reason. I would recommend you buy a seat in the middle. I will be flying again this week to ATL to get to Alabama. I feel like there is always something negative to say about Spirit. I guess my negative thing would have to start at their customer service. I was trying to use a voucher to book and of course it was my fault that I did not read the small print that the voucher does not work on taxes but only fares of $10 or more... Next was the small seats.. way too small for anyone's comfort. Can't forget the terminal appearance and option in LGA airport. Not big, no food options and the pizza place is overpriced af. Spirit airline is THE WORST airline to fly from Orlando! There was an agent screaming updates at the top of her lungs and snapping at passengers who are confused by her loud abusive tone and the massive lines and delays. There was a second agent who was the supervisor, also yelling at passengers to "get over here" if you're on the flight to Newark NJ (where is the professionalism?). Although the entrance to the Spirit Airline kiosk is at the first door to terminal B, the bag drop line is literally extending to the end of the terminal past the United and American Airline checkin kiosk almost to the end of terminal B; I have never seen anything like this! I waited on this never ending baggage drop line for two hours and 35 minutes! There were cancellations and gate changes that customers were only informed of when they arrive at the airport. Thank goodness my flight was delayed twice and we had two gate changes because even with TSA pre check the two hour and 35 minute wait to drop my bag was cutting it close, so we were pulled to the front of the bag drop line and just barely made our flight! My advice to everyone traveling on Spirit is to pay the extra money and fly another airline from Orlando, because it's clear that Spirit has no regulars for its passengers. I paid $41 for a trip to Orlando Florida. There is nothing cheaper than that. So i wouldn't expect first class seats, first class service, etc. The plane was just a plane, and the seat was bare down seat. No tv screen, no fancy tray, no free snacks nor drinks, nothing. I would leave 0 stars if that was an option. My flight home to Philly was cancelled due to "weather" even though no other flights there were cancelled and it's currently 48 degrees, slightly cloudy and only 3mph winds. When presented with rebooking options the only next available flight was Sunday, three days from my original flight and the funny part is that it's supposed to snow on Sunday so I'm sure that flight will be cancelled due to weather as well.... Because the flights cancelled due to weather they provide no accommodations or vouchers for rooming even though the next flight that was offered was three days from my original flight LOL. Additionally, I asked about flying into a different local airport upon which I was told that was fully booked. Funny because I was able to book that exact flight separately via their app AND that same rebooked flight I was denied was offered to numerous other guests after the fact. Seeing that it was an option to their flyers and not us, I was trying to see if I could be reimbursed the difference between my canceled flight and new flight. I've talked to 6 different agents now and every single one has been unable to assist. Extremely disappointed with the customer service and the unfair treatment. Also they totally only cancelled the flight because it wasn't full and blaming it on weather so they wouldn't have to provide accommodations to flyers is actually criminal. If it's the weather then why are there still flights currently and this evening to the area and surrounding airports as well and why not just delay the flight. My pregnant wife, me and my 20 month old daughter try to fly from Orlando to Bogota. We arrived at the Airport on time and went to the self check in counter. There we could not check in because of my daughter. So we got redirected to the counter where we waited in line. We were second in line before they stopped the line to check in people for different flights with a last call (Costa Rica). We still had enough time so we waited. Once we got to the counter, they told us it is to late and we won't be able to fly. According to the Supervisor we did not reacted to the last call for Bogota, which never was announced. My parents in law stood with us in line and also never heard a last call for Bogota. We told them we heard Costa Rica but never Bogota. Their answer was that if we heard Costa Rica, the call for Bogota was much earlier. Weird because we heard Costa Rica and still had 50min until boarding. Spirit policy is that they make the last call 40 min prior to boarding. So they must have made their last call way to early and not at the correct time. They rebooked us for a flight the next day. But we wanted to fly out that day because we already drove 2 hours to the airport and have people waiting for us in Bogota. So we asked if we can get a full refund if we look for other airlines to fly out that day. The supervisor confirmed the refund. I have it on recording. Check in fairly easy new system, no I didn't know this isn't my airline. Get to the gate pretty fast, and people consolidate your personal items, please. A few people were left behind for their vacation in Montego Bay. They tossed bags and ran to recheck to catch the next available. The gate area is dirty with trash even with garbage cans within feet . Located a clean seat, meaning no leftover cups or chips bags across from my gate. Hopefully, there will be no delays like last time. Now I have to prepare for my folding chair of a seat, I'm just glad the flight 1 hour 30 minutes. Did I complain about comings? Yes. They proceeded to tell us that it would be a 2 hour delay as a flight was coming in from Houston. 15 minutes later they pushed it back by 5 hours. Please. I've had both decent and bad experiences with Spirit Airlines. On this day, my experience was one of the worst. I'd flown from Miami to Orlando after paying for checked bags at the time I'd booked my flight, but after arriving to MIA and seeing the insanely long lines to check bags, decided I needed to pay extra for a carryon or I'd never make my flight. All but 2 of the kiosks at the Miami airport were broken and those 2 timed out before accepting my payment. I was then yelled at by the check-in agent there, then accused by the gate agent of not paying for my bags (luckily I had printed copies of my receipts to prove otherwise). When I got home, I found I was ultimately double charged by the broken kiosks, which Spirit refused to refund me for - I had to issue a dispute with my bank to have that made right. Here at Orlando airport, they changed the gate for our departing flight without making an announcement at the previously scheduled gate so there was lots of confusion. Once we got to the new departure gate, the incoming flight with our plane was late arriving so our flight had the departure time pushed back, then one of the flight attendants who was required for us to take off was late arriving. In all, our flight from Orlando was more than 45 minutes late departing. When we arrived at our destination, the people waiting for the plane we'd arrived on were going to take off late as well! It seems that Spirit runs an OK operation if everything works out as it should and everything runs on time, but if a weather event happens or incoming planes or staff are running late, it's like a series of dominoes where lots of future flights and departures are negatively impacted. I once heard a radio interview where the head of Spirit Airlines commented in a non-chalant manner that Spirit has the highest amount of customer complaints and lowest ratings of any of the better-known airlines, while at the same time they have some of the highest profit margins.
