I was walking around my neighborhood aimlessly this morning hoping to get a serving of blended fruit when I passed by Spiro's. This spot is always bustling so I popped right in to find myself a quick serve deli style place with an expansive menu. I asked for the date, almond and avocado smoothie with an added banana. My smoothie was made well and tasted great. Service was quick and efficient and I can see this place running like a well oiled wheel especially due to its proximity to the 36 St entrance. The inside does leave a lot to be desired but again I don't think this is a place where a lot of people congregate to have drawn out meals. This smoothie was a bit on the expensive side. I haven't gotten many things on the menu because I'm a huge fan of the Greek salad with salmon. It's great! I've gotten naughty and got a slice of pizza and eggplant parm and it got rid of my hangover. Staff are always nice and my orders are timely. Not sure what happened with the delivery back in the day...and maybe it's because our office moved closer, into the delivery range, but Spiro's is still my go to choice when I don't have any specific cravings. The Spiro Cafe salad is still the bomb. Had one today! Delivery is still ridiculously fast. Not too long ago I actually stopped by the physical location and was surprised it looks more like a pizzeria than a cafe. Three and a half stars seem accurate. The place is far from a fine establishment and sadly the vegetables that I peeked in the refrigerated thingy in the front did not seem fresh at all. It also did not help that I read in one of the more recent reviews that they found a bug in their food. So I had stopped off at my aunt's house to drop some stuff off and check her mail. It was mid-afternoon Sunday and the last thing I had to eat was breakfast before leaving for church. I stopped in here. I wanted something to go and knew if I ordered a sandwich or wrap or anything resembling a lunch dish; it would be too much. The menu board on display says breakfast until 11 AM. There was no one else in there so I asked the guy where they cook the hot food if he would still make a breakfast sandwich, He said he would. I ordered 2 eggs with turkey bacon on a roll. He fried up the eggs and cut up about 4 pieces of turkey bacon. It took about 5 minutes for my sandwich. It would be 5 stars except for 2 minor things: The price I was charged was $.25 more than posted. It was still cheaper than what I would pay for that in most places in Manhattan. Came here for quick bite to eat with my coworkers. I ordered the fresh mozzarella chicken hero sandwich. It had grilled chicken, lettuce, mozzarella, salsa verde, and avocado. A decent tasting sandwich. I doubt the mozzarella is fresh. The avocado and salsa was certainly a good mix in the sandwich. Getting the sandwich certainly took a long time. The staff seem a bit overwhelmed in the amount of orders they were getting. I could see the staff ignore some phone calls while they deal with the pick up an delivery orders they had. Spiro's Cafe is down the street from my new apartment so I have become a regular here. They are open for breakfast with your normal bodega-style grill and also have some Tex-Mex style tacos / burritos and tortas. Their veggie burrito is what I go for, it normally comes with avocado - but since I am allergic they have never had trouble subbing it for veggies. The salsa verde it comes with is actually pretty legit and tasty. There is seating available, and food is ready fast. A solid location that I'll be returning to time and time again. read more

I love, love, love the food here so much that, even though we moved from Sunset Park to Bensonhurst, my boyfriend will make a special stop on the way home to bring the burritos home for us to have on a Friday night. You know this kind of place. Tons of options - breakfast, sandwiches, wraps, salads, burgers that order from a big sign above a counter/deli case. It's the same thing you'll see everywhere. But Spiro's differs in 2 respects: 1. Burritos. Not something you often see at cafes of this nature, though given its Sunset Park locale it makes sense. Anyway, they are HUGE (2 meal huge). And amazing. One thing I don't like is that they put lettuce in the burritos - a personal pet peeve of mine. It skeeves me out, so I always request they omit it. They do so gladly. Which leads me to the way more important 2. The service. I seriously love every single person who works here. They're friendly, helpful, and just really, really nice. I sometimes stop in here for coffee and a muffin or bagel on my way to work. I wouldn't say the muffins and bagels are exceptional, though the coffee is very good. I could get these items any where, but I keep coming back to Spiro's because I want to give this place business. Not that I really need to, it's always busy. That reminds me. I used to coming here for my morning coffee until the blonde lady mistreated me over a dollar bill that was taped. I didn't even see that my dollar was taped looking, I just took the money out of my pocket and handed her my form of payment. She started shaking her head and gave back my bill saying she could not take it because it was "taped" . Honestly I could not believe what I was hearing. I said "what's wrong with it?" A bill keeps its value even if it's missing 30% of the physical appearance. She kept on rejecting it until I said that that was all I had, indeed it was. Because of this incident and because maybe she can't control her PMS and took it out on me, I won't go back. Two stars for the simple fact that this was my second visit to this place & I feel like I waited way too long for my food I work around the corner and I'm new to this area, so these guys don't know me. I walked in towards where the guys were cooking to order my sandwich and no one took my order, so I went to the register and stood there for a good 5 min, not so bad since it's 8:36 am. Two people came in. Ordered with the cook and left before me, again maybe because I'm new, I wasn't really mad about that. The man I gave my order to also forgot the order 3 times, again doesn't bother me if you forget I know it's busy, I but I do get pissed when you forget my order and send 2-3 people out the door who came in after me. Those orders he remembered but not mine so I was a little disappointed. He was nice not rude at all. He said sorry however didn't offer anything as he could clearly see I was getting annoyed after 20 min. My friend ordered tacos here last night and he was raving on how good it is. I know its a cafe/pizzeria but, i had their fish taco yday and IT was SO GOOD! The fish tacos were loaded with fried fish and the batter is so crispy and flavorful. Comes with lemon and green hot sauce. I devoured that taco so fast! Solid neighborhood spot. The food is consistent, the staff are friendly, and I especially like their eat-in breakfast special. The menu is deep: Tex-Mex, Italian, and Greek entrees, breakfast, salads, sandwiches and burgers, and they sometimes have some off-menu gems like tamales and thanksgiving stuffing. The salsas are great; I ask for them with pretty much everything I order. You can usually get a table on the weekend. Pro Tip: Order ahead if you're doing takeout. It can get chaotic at the counter and you'll be waiting for a while if you don't. I was looking for places to eat near my office and I came across Spiro's. It's next the the train station and it wasn't much to look at on the inside or out. But I was happy I went in. The staff was very friendly and the food was good at a good price. I had a Chicken Chipolte Burrito which came with a side of tortilla chips (which seemed like home made and they might have been). It was quite yummy and I was sad as I finished my last bites that it was gone... For dessert, I had a serving of flan, also delicious. I will certainly go back again to try their other foods. I'm in the area a lot for promoting and showing our workspaces just down the hill and this is one of my favorite places to eat. They have a wide range of food - decent, huge burritos, the best pizza in Sunset Park (sorry Johnny's), tacos, burgers, tons of salads and wraps, and it's all pretty good. And cheap! I've been going to this restaurant for 2 years on and off as it is the cheapest restaurant by my job. At first I liked the prices and all I would order was turkey burgers to be on the safe side. (after all, how can you mess up a Turkey burger?) As time went on I started to explore other things on the menu. As I did I started to notice my orders coming back wrong. Seems like the best orders to make are orders in person or over the phone and pick up the items rather then delivery. (check your items before you leave) I always got my turkey burgers the same way over cooked, Onions fried, pickles, lettuce, Ketchup and on a toasted wheat bagel. Orders started to come back, no onions, on a bun instead of wheat bagel, not well done, sometimes no lettuce, no ketchup... I ordered other things...and they got messed up as well.... I thought I was safe by ordering a tuna salad with lettuce and onions chopped into the tuna on a toasted wheat bagel... Nope they messed that up too... I'd call them to let them know when I got to work or if I got it delivered. But only rectification was to send it back, I've heard horrible stories about food getting sent back and returning, and at that point I'm hungry, only way I'm sending this back is if it wasn't edible. The best thing about them is their delivery is fast and polite, wish I could say the same about the person taking my orders or the ppl they blame on the phone taking the orders in the kitchen. oh yeah...coffee is meh, the newsstand by the 36th street train station is much better and cheaper and that's the only place in the area to get pizza... the pizza is a good price but tastes mehh... read more

FINALLY MY FIRST 5 star review!!! Ok so I simply love love this places! First the workers ALL including the chef are super sweet friendly they even tell you to enjoy your meal in Spanish when you are served! Second prices are very fair not expensive at all! The food is SO good they overload you with portions my turkey bacon egg white on a bagel was very nicely filled over lapped with so much turkey bacon I loved it! Their house salad is one of the better house salads: romaine, greens, feta, walnuts, grapes, a delicious dressing. The fish tacos, like most places, needs lots of help.
