Wow! Came here and never had Pho before. I got the house special on the menu with hand pulled noodles. Amazing. Has a little bit of everything and you can see the workers make the noodles fresh in the window. Very authentic feel to the place. Knifecut noodles are thicker and i tried my husbands, i'd go for that next time. There will be a next time! read more

Place rocks. I had to drive around the building 3 times to realize what door went into the place as the sign that says "splendid noodle" that faces Stony Brook Road is tiny and I can't read Chinese. After all solid food was gone from giant bowl, could not stop slurping the broth until I was almost full enough to lose my lunch. I was satisfied but couldn't stop myself..that's how flavorful this stuff is. I had the fatty beef. I'm a big eater and this is plenty for one meal and for $9 it's well worth it. I added a little chili oil and vinegar they provided, and that improved to an already rich broth. Place is a winner. Next time will get more adventurous with the meat, maybe some oxtail. there will definitely be a next time. read more

Having watched and eaten the REAL DEAL LanZhou La Mian - it has been a disappointing journey to fresh hand-pulled noodles in NY. There are a few places in NYC that are quite good... but NOW in Stony Brook we have the REAL DEAL!! Hand-pulled Noodles (La Mian) in flavorful broth. We all went for a lunch.. 1 seafood, 1 Roast Duck, 2 Beef Flank, 1 Beef and 1 lamb... under $10 a bowl! NONE of us had a complaint! All you could hear was the happy contented slurping of noodles... The service was fine.. the place is simple.. and the limited menu is exactly what it should be. Could not have been happier. Actually stopped there after an MD appt (under the weather) and the soup was just what the Dr ordered. Hot and fresh. Next time I know to have them NOT sprinkle the cilantro (I am one of those for whom cilantro is not so much as a mouthful of soap) and it would be heaven. The couple of us that added the chili oil were every bit as pleased. I want this place to succeed and move to even bigger quarters!! If you have ever had hand-pulled (or knife cut) fresh noodles... in delicious steaming broth.. this is the place for you!! Not since LanZhou have we all been this happy with noodle bowls! read more

I just love this place. I came here a few weeks ago and want to come back. I decided to come back and write this review due to visiting another ramen place on the island that my friends brought me to that was pretty mediocre. The beef appetizer is cold surprisingly, the peppercorns make it pop, just the right amount of spice. The pork bun was different than what I am used to and the bun was hard and flat. I took a bite and the taste was so familiar I couldn't pin it at first then I realized - it tastes exactly like a McDonalds sausage biscuit. My friend confirmed, but maybe it's just us. I ordered the beef noodles. The noodles are nice and thick and just soak up the broth. You could even see the chef making them behind the counter. Make sure to add the chili sauce! I had to bring home leftovers because you get so much for your money. I am a walking billboard for this place and can't wait to go back. read more

I used to like this place, and came very often, but recently the quality became very bad. The noodle itself is still ok, but the portion of the meat and source has become very very small. I ordered noodle with meat sauce, and after I tried my best to mix the noodle with the meat sauce, it tasted like plain noodle, no taste at all. I always came here to order this dish, and I know it has much more meat sauce before, so I talked with a waitress (she looks like an owner, but not sure) to get some more sauce, but she insisted that I need to buy extra. I didn't buy, because it's their fault to give very little meat source, but the noodle really taste bad without enough meat source, so I ended up not eating at all, and left with an empty stomach. This place is where dreams come true. The noodles alone speak for them self. The broth must be made in a culinary witch's cauldron of yum-yum. We ordered the cold sesame noodles to start which was AMAZING. The texture, the taste, and the garnishes gave it the perfect balance. The beef flank noodle bowl was some of the most tender beef I've had. Highly recommend this place. The portion size is big enough to take leftovers home to love it all over again! 10/10, would eat again. read more

I live across the street from this restaurant and I finally had a chance to go there tonight. Nice place, not much decor but seemed clean. I ordered the flank steak noodle bowl. When my bowl arrived it had three fatty cubes of steak, and the broth was Luke warm. The noodles were great. Not overly impressed, but I'll try it again. read more

ok.. this is probably the only review I've written that is completely negative. We went to Splendid noodle after reading the review in Newsday. We got the recommended hand-pulled noodles, one with shrimp and the other with beef which I believe was like a beef brisket. The beef was totally inedible. Whoever trimmed this meat never bothered to remove the grizzle or silver skin which made it tough and impossible to chew. First bite was fibrous and jelly like and had to be discarded discreetly into a napkin. Second, less but same. By the time I made it thru the portion(which unfortunately, i ordered with extra meat) nearly ALL of it was discarded. The broth was a bland beef broth heavily dominated by cilantro. The shrimp bowl was slightly more acceptable, but only because the shrimp was edible. same type of broth, same heavy hand of cilantro. The noodles, well, they were noodles. Nothing to write home about. appetizers were simple.. small house salads. Wait staff was non existent. After asking twice of the waiter, we got up and got a drink from the takeout fridge. The real kicker is when the staff approached the people in the table next to us if they would get up and move to another table so another group can sit at their table. Not normally terrible if they were just seated, but this couple was in the middle of their meal. When they declined to move themselves and all their food, they were very rudely hurried thru their meal. Keep in mind, both tables were small tables for 4. It's not like they were asked to move to make room or move to a more appropriately sized table. It was odd, and neither of us could figure it out. only guess is they wanted to put multiple tables together. The place seems incomplete, or they are just not interested in ambiance. Bottom line, we will never be back and only recommendation is don't bother. Right next door is a good sushi place where you can get a hot bowl of noodle soup with various trimmings. read more
