I waited for the weekend and noticed that he was still pretty lethargic after a few days so I started calling around for nearby vets. Thankfully this isn't too far from me (20 min drive from west valley) located by fort union in midvale The technician and vet were both very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions patiently. They ended up giving him a hydrating pack and done nausea medicine. He's feeling a lot better and I'm thankful that they helped!

I asked about it but they said I can go online to get it and gave me the link. Well online is thru their expensive pharmacy. I wanted to get it at Costco which is much cheaper. Would they call it in to Costco? No. They require me to go pick it up at their office and they'd call when it was ready. Did they ever call? No. I called them. This same scenario happened three times. Still not ready and every time they ask, "Now are you getting it from our pharmacy?" Deplorable. I've never been to a veterinarian refusing to call a pharmacy or give me a script, so making it impossible to get it anywhere else. In addition, they claim the dog I took in weighed 74 lbs and needed to lose 10 lbs weight so gave me a diet plan. I was looking at the scale the same as the assistant was. It fluctuated between 70-71. That's easy enough to ignore, but their customer service about prescriptions is atrocious.

I have been taking him for veterinary care on a regular basis to Brickyard Animal Hospital in Salt Lake City for many years. For the most part I have had no reason to complain about their veterinary care other than exorbitant prices. Visits have cost between $200 and more than $500, depending on blood tests, medications, etc. I have been receiving medications from Chewy because their costs are less than half of that charged by Brickyard Animal Hospital. Over the years I have spent thousands of dollars on pet care with Brickyard. About ten days ago I took Cassidy to Brickyard for a wellness check. The usual vet, Dr. Allen, was not available and so Cassidy was attended by Dr. Matthew J. Heller. I was not impressed with Dr. Heller from the beginning because his attitude was brusk. He examined Cassidy and asked me if Dr. Allen had mentioned that Cassidy's kidney numbers were high, in the 30s, at his last visit. I replied that he had not mentioned it. Dr. Heller said blood work was necessary and he would notify me of the results by phone in a few days. He then instructed his aide to take Cassidy in the back for the tests. As she went out of the door with Cassidy, Dr. Heller called out to her to also test his urine. I had no concern as this had been done in the past. As I was sitting in the room, waiting for them to bring Cassidy back to me, I heard the most blood curdling scream I have ever heard in my life. It was Cassidy, squealing and screaming at the top of his lungs. I wasn't sure it was him at the time, but when they returned him to me, he acted strangely and cowered in the carrier I carried him with. When I went out into the lobby to pay the bill (over $500) the lady at the desk asked, "Was that Cassidy?" Only then did I realize what had happened. They squeezed his stomach to force him to pass urine! Barbaric! I brought my cat to seek relief for his pain and suffering, not to intensify it! I cannot even begin to explain that horrible sound of the pain he was in. A few days later, Dr. Heller called and said that the test revealed that Cassidy's kidney numbers were extremely high, over 74, and that he likely had only weeks to live, if not less. I said nothing to him about the office treatment because of the shock of learning that I was about to lose my boy. However, when I took Cassidy to the vet, he was in good health, happy and content; when I brought him home, he moved as though in pain, did not want to be lifted, and vomited several times and defecated involuntarily. He was sick and lethargic. He could not have declined that much in one day! He was injured internally by these barbaric "vets" and declined within several days. He was put to sleep to end his suffering on August 30, 2026, within ten days of the visit to Brickyard Animal Hospital. My wife and I have no children. Our cats are our children. The loss of Cassidy has brought a sadness and gloom over our household. We could have had weeks to enjoy his little life before the visit to Brickyard. They robbed us of precious time with him and subjected him to unimaginable misery. This veterinarian (and I use the term lightly) had no right to subject my cat to this cruelty without at the very least notifying me in advance for my approval. I would never have approved such barbarous treatment of an animal, especially my animal. I have thought seriously about litigation against Brickyard, but in the end, it would be ineffectual. Cats are considered property and the most we could have gotten out of the effort was probably $75 or $100. I am in hopes that by making other people aware of this barbarous veterinary hospital it will discourage business with them. AVOID!

They gave him some meds and sent me home and told me to get an appointment with the vet again. When I brought him back, they told me that it was a neurological problem. I have had to make an appointment with a orthopedic surgeon to see what they did to him. If you don't care about your animal, go ahead and take them to West lake veterinarian, but I will never take my animals there again. Just to get a bortella vaccination.

The technicians had to clean up after nervous dogs. They never complained. Just acted like it was part of the job. I noticed how compassionate they were and loving towards the dogs as they hurried to prepare them for their surgery. We had X-rays and other things done besides the spay. They gave us the best recommendations possible for my little dog I rescued. If you have symptoms after the surgery, you can text them if your pet is struggling. They have been patient with me. This is my first rescue. I wanted to be sure my new pet was OK. I guess you could say I'm a little needy. Like being a parent your first time you wanna make sure you're doing it right.

This practice was acquired by NVA corporation and has had issues since Dr Mike left practice this summer. Over the last 2 months Hunter blended with West Valley Vet, another NVA entity. All of the Veterinarians have left, all of the Vet Techs except 2 have left, and the front office staff have absorbed the chaos. NVA has shunted operations to a clinic they own at a Redwood road campus and posted openings for new Vets for the Hunter site. It is very difficult to get services for my established dogs through this process of acquisition. Two of the acquired front office receptionists that came from West Valley Vet were very difficult to work with and made me feel very unwelcome after being with Hunter for years. I am personally and professionally saddened by this tremendous upheaval that is impacting continuity of care for my dogs. I am tremendously saddened that Hunter Animal Hospital as we have known and loved it is no longer. If you had asked me my personal and professional opinion of this practice in June, I would have told you how wonderful the staff, Vet Techs and Veterinarians are and how they had inspired confidence by the committed, caring treatments they rendered to us and our dogs. Today, a little over 2 months later I would tell you to evaluate the practice carefully to see if you can navigate the changes and upheaval at present. Arguably, this environment may change and a positive situation could exist in the future, but as of today, September 1st 2026, I would say to evaluate carefully your engagement with them to see if you can get the care you and your pet deserve. Thank you to all the old Hunter staff and Vets that we had great experience with. Best of luck to the oncoming NVA/Corporate employees. Personally, I am looking for a practice with more continuity and professionalism that I can count on. We are very saddened for this unfortunate demise of Hunter Animal Hospital.

I took my dog in for a consultation for dental cleaning they did the exam & took blood to check for…read moreany issues . I was given an estimate. Dr Howard did her exam he is very gentle & kind . My dog wasn't even nervous. I called a few days later to schedule her procedure . I asked if there was anything special I would have to do the night before they said just not to feed her after midnight but someone would be calling me to go over what to do the night/day before her visit . I never got a call from the office . So I just googled when to stop feeding her & put all her water up . When I checked in the next day I found out she could have had water . I asked why they didn't call me for instructions they said the girl that does the calling out phone was broken . They did a great job with her dental cleaning . She had to have several teeth pulled . They were so nice. They sent home some pain pills . She is doing great & I am so happy to have her infected teeth out of her mouth . I would recommend this vet for dental procedures.

When I called and said were my records transferred they then got the manager to call me. I told her I came for a lump on his leg to being quoted $700 for which is perfectly fine but the possibility of $800 of dental work that would happen during surgery. I never came to that clinic worried about my dogs dental I came for his lump to eventually being put in a conversation where my dog could die if I don't take care of it. I was in shock and asked her to stop talking and she didn't. I came to tears because even hearing that word in the same sentence of my dog was rude. I caution anyone to go here. That was my one and only visit and I hope no one ever has to go through that like I did that was awful. Scaring anyone into treatment is wrong and should never be utilized to sell anything. Now some older folks might not have called her on it but I did. Maybe she was new? I hope so as I hate to think it was an attempt to slip a charge in there.
