I am a long-time dog owner who recently became a new owner of a Pit Bull that I got from a kill shelter. I first went to another store in the neighborhood run by a know-it-all owner who loaded me up with a bunch of inappropriate stuff. When I discovered that the stuff I got was not getting the job done, I went down to Spoiled Brats. They could not have been more helpful and pleasant. Fitted me up with a terrific harness that has cured my dog from pulling (Pit Bulls are very powerful "pullers" and the other store had told me that a harness would be all wrong and talked me into a steel prong collar which my dog hates). I find their prices very competitive and well within the market averages. Example: I buy Taste Of The Wild 30lb bags of dry dogfood. Spoiled Brats price: $52.00. On-line stores: $47-$49. Cheaper on-line, but then there is $12.00 shipping, for an actual total $59-$61. Spoiled Brats delivers for free, and on more than one occasion they've included a free bag of doggie treats. They win hands down. This place never tries to talk you into anything you didn't come for, although I confess that I always buy more than I intended, because they have such a large stock of really interesting stuff. I enjoy going there, and so does my dog. I should have "listened" to my dog when we went to the other store first: he did NOT want to go inside, and I had to drag him in. He loves Spoiled Brats, and so do I. I cannot recommend this store highly enough. As a 25yr resident of Washington Heights, I'm really grateful they opened a store in our neighborhood. Oh, and to the nit-picker who whined that this should not be in the pet store category because they don't have fish, birds, ferrets, rabbits, horses, camels, pigs, elephants, chimpanzees & rhino's: the place is called Spoiled Brats. Any cat or dog owner knows exactly what that denotes. I can't imagine fish owners feeling the same way. I have a salt-water aquarium. I've sunk a great deal of money into it. It's gorgeous. But I only go to aquarium specialty stores for my fish needs. Anything else would like going to a steak house and ordering baked flounder. It's not their thing. Spoiled Brats is without question a specialty store for cats and dogs. If you have one or more of either, you will be really happy you shop here, so you can go on spoiling them. Great place. Anyone that complains about this place more than likely went there when they themselves were in a bad mood. All the guys are great, knowledgeable, attentive, and helpful. If they don't have what you need they will find it. If you currently order your food online they will see if they can beat the price for you to gain you as a customer. They also sponsor the monthly coffee hours in the dog parks in the surrounding areas, providing the coffee, doughnuts and treat bags for the dogs. read more

I've been intending to write this review for a year now, ever since I adopted my beloved little doogle Hershey (he's a Yorkie) and first started shopping at Spoiled Brats. Here's what I love: the owner is literally a gem of a man. I didn't have my debit card on me and only about $10.00 in my pocket and I needed treats and I asked him what he recommends for around $5.00. He said, take whatever you want and you can pay me later this week. He knows I'm a regular. I did just that and honestly I don't think anyone has ever said that to me in NYC. Every time I go in there with Hershey, the owner or one of the other guys makes sure to give him a treat. The place is FULL of everything you could want for your pet. The toys are adorable and there always seems to be a new shipment of quirky, kooky, squeaky, fuzzy monsters and animals for your dog to love and destroy. The thing that makes me recommend Spoiled Brats the most is that they carry a wide variety of the Instinct RAW brand, canned as well as kibble. That's Hershey's main diet and this is the only pet store that carries it within a 50 block radius of my apartment. AND they deliver with a $20.00 minimum order. Believe me, that is a feature that comes in very handy. This place is the best and Hershey always loves to visit with me. read more

This IS a great neighborhood store! If they don't have something they go all-out to find it and order it for you. Friendly. Helpful. IF something is priced a little higher, I don't care! Having an INDEPENDENT proprieter in the neighborhood is a disappearing act in NYC and something I value. I'd like to keep it that way as long as possible. Washington Heighters: if you are worried about the changing neighborhood SHOP LOCAL! Stop ordering groceries, prescriptions, pet items and drug store items, etc. through the mail. This is undoubtedly the best pet store in the neighborhood. My Lulu and Teddy love going to visit. The owner tries his best to get the best products and is concerned about his clients getting more for less. He tries his best to make sure that his store is stacked with healthy and nutritious items. In comparison to the other stores his prices are more affordable. They always have fresh water for the pets and treats.. These are signs of a real pet lover. The place is always clean and well organized. And the best part of it all is that they have delivery, and if you want something that they don't have or are out of, they will try to order it for you. read more

This store has HEART! My roommate and I found a 5 wk old kitten crying under a car one day and we able to coax her out. We went straight to Spoiled Brats because it's right in the neighborhood to get some first-day essentials. Sid was so knowledgeable and helpful, especially considering we were a bit overwhelmed with this new baby kitty. This place is awesome! The man helping me (the owner? not sure) was unbelievably helpful and kind. When another customer came in, he was so attentive to both of us. I was looking to buy a cat tree and some litter; he took out a ladder and brought down both of the cat trees I was looking at to help me decide which was better. When I'd found a litter to buy, he recommended a larger bag from a different brand that was cheaper, so that I'd get "more bang for my buck." Delivery is free. I was in the store at 4:00 and told him that I had to leave my apartment by 5:00 to get to work on time. By the time I walked the 9 blocks home, the delivery guy was already at my door with my order: it was crazy! Highly recommend. read more

Spoiled Brats is an excellent presence in Washington Heights and once I discovered this store, I didn't need to look any further for any of my pooch's needs. Owner Sed is an affable, engaging, chill guy who I always look forward to chatting with when I visit. In his absence (which seems rare), he has a team of helpful and friendly guys working with him who always provide an easy, enjoyable shopping experience. Jaime even indulged us in a winter coat fashion show so we could select something that was the perfect fit for my girl. I visited for the first time today after learning I would be adopting a kitten. Seth (I hope that's his name, I'm bad at remembering!) went above and beyond in helping me navigate my options for everything I'd need as a first time cat owner. They stock a myriad of products for many types of pets (cats, dogs, rodents, and possibly others -- I was focused on the cat section this time). They are very knowledgeable about their products. I can't say enough good things about this place. Great customer service. Big selection. Convenient location. Perhaps one of its biggest selling points though is its differentiation from other stores. With an influx of new shops--and much higher prices--the management understands that just opening a store (in a location increasingly catering to young professionals) doesn't justify increasing prices. After paying premium prices for poor service twice in one week for pet care at other locations I had a refreshing encounter. After I told the manager/owner about my experiences I was literally GIVEN a free bag of dog food. I came back the next day to buy a bigger bag. They have no bird or aquarium supplies and should not be in the pet store category. They cater to dog and cat owners only and sell nothing for birds and fish and do not sell fish or birds or aquarium supplies.As a side point- a lot of dog walkers who walk along Bennett Ave leave their animals' excrement and urine on the sidewalk and do not clean up or even take their animals to the curb. read more

Wanting to support local businesses, I tried this place 3 or 4 times before giving up. Customer service is as random as the prices seem to be, although customer service, along with convenience is probably the best single reason you would seek out a Mom and Pop store. The prices on the cans of cat food are nowhere to be seen, and upon asking I was made to feel that I was inconveniencing the staff. I've gotten better prices down by Lincoln Center, and I imagine the overhead in that neighborhood is significantly higher than in the Heights. Anyway, I'm ordering online now. read more

Delivery service is not what you would expect. As a dog owner, I am pretty sure I know exactly what my dog eats and how to order it over the phone. I received the wrong bag of dog food and only one flavor of the cans I ordered. I called to advise the guy I got the wrong food and he blamed me for the mistake! I didn't even mention the cans of food...he argued back and forth with me about the order. All he had to say was I will send someone again with the right one. I wasn't even the one on the defensive, he was. Very bad service over the phone. In person, I love the shop. Just beware of delivery service. These guys go out of their way to help, unlike other pet places in this neighborhood. I live in village, but work in the area, I've been shopping at Brats for over five years for my cat food, toys, etc. All this time never had a negative experience. Check them out for yourself, Sed the owner is most helpful. This is a real mom and pop. I've had to work weekends in the past and stopped in to pick up a toy, since I was in the area and had the opportunity to meet the rest Sed's family, his wife is just as sweet, and the kids are so cute playing with the shop cat. Just moved to the neighborhood and was looking for food for our dog. They had a great selection of healthy dog foods, including blue buffalo (what we grabbed) and innova and some other healthy brands. Lots of good treats and chews, and plenty of accessory supplies like bags and paw wipes. Prices were very reasonable as well. The owner/manager there was very nice and friendly , and I look forward to coming back. read more

Getting dog food delivered used to be a lot easier with these guys. Past year or so the people answering the phone, sometimes after 15+ rings, sound disinterested or high and you have to constantly repeat yourself or call back when disconnected. The dog food selection is very hit or miss. Great store in person for dog toys. read more

I always buy my dogs food here, their prices are better than the others one around the area plus they have really good brands of food for dogs like Orijen which is one of the best for dogs....
